When psychotherapist and recovering alcoholic Letty Whittaker responds to a middle-of-the-night crisis call, she knows helping Trinnie face her demons won't be easy. However, instead of finding her friend dead drunk, Letty finds her just . . . dead. And Paul, another close friend, is the primary suspect. Worse, Trinnie's Fourth Step-AA's infamous list of resentments-implicates Paul. Letty has a choice: turn the list over to the police or use it to track the suspects back through the hard-drinking bar scene. In a race to prove Paul's innocence, Letty wrestles the dark addictions that nearly consumed her just months ago-and comes face-to-face with the person who's secrets were worth killing for.

Donna White Glaser is the author of the Letty Whittaker 12 Step Mystery series. Like her main character, Donna is a psychotherapist and lives northwestern Wisconsin. As if that weren’t enough, she and her husband own a residential construction company where it’s Donna’s job to deal with any overly emotional, what-do-you-mean-you-can’t-put-roof-trusses-up-in-a-thunderstorm? clients. Strangely enough, she often comes up with ideas for creative murders and hiding bodies during business hours. Currently she is at work on the fourth Letty Whittaker 12 Step Mystery-THE BLOOD WE SPILL. Donna would love to hear from you via her website at www.donnawhiteglaser.com or on Twitter: @readdonnaglaser.

Higher Power

I discovered Donna White Glaser while looking for something to read and I'm glad I did. This is book 3 in her series and maybe this is a bad way to put it but I'm addicted to her writing. Letty Whittaker is a great protagonist. She's a therapist with a sense of humor and a recovering alcoholic. I know that sounds a bit odd but she's just like the rest of the population, trying to live her life without making mistakes she can't live with.

The writing is good and I find myself laughing out loud enough to turn heads. That's how much I enjoy her books. There's mystery, suspense,a little romance and great characters. So if you find yourself looking for something to read, I highly recommend starting with the first book in the series: The Enemy We Know. I'm off to buy book number 4 The Blood We Spill. Remember, I said I was addicted. Anyone know a good therapist?

Great.

I love Letty as much as Stephanie Plum. Maybe more because she is almost believable (especially given some of the therapists I've known). Sorry Donna.

An easy read full of adventure.

The series just keeps getting better. I can't wait to see what Letty gets herself into in the next book.

Recovering alcoholic and therapist Letty Whittaker and her bff, Beth, make a 12th-step call on Trinnie, a fellow AA member who is trying to face her demons. When they get to Trinnie’s house, they find her dead. On the way out of the house, Letty mistakenly grabs Trinnie’s Big Book, which contains Trinnie’s Fourth Step (a list of character defects). That list provides several viable suspects in her death, including Paul, another program friend of Letty’s. Letty can either turn the list into the police, or use it to track the suspects through the bar scene herself. You can guess which path she takes.

While I quibble with Letty’s purposefully placing herself and her sobriety in danger, especially given her day job, I still enjoyed this third entry in the series. I like the interaction between Letty and Beth, the 12-step references are spot on, and the descriptions of meetings ring true. I learned a little more about the relationship between Letty and her estranged sister. Not to give anything away, but that’s probably not going to end well for either of them – Letty’s sister is still an unrepentant alcoholic, and Letty has difficulty bridging that gap since her sister is taking her sobriety as rejection. In addition to eventually figuring out who the killer is, Letty stumbles into romance (in a bar, no less), with a hunk named Eli. This bodes well for future books.

For me, this was a nice mix of mystery a smattering of romance, and accurate representation of 12-step programs. I’ll be reading more in this series.

I really enjoyed this entry in the series as, unlike the first two books, the mystery is centered around Letty's personal life, and AA involvement, rather than her professional one - this worked like a series refresher in this way.

The change in setting also meant that readers get to know different secondary characters - and also get a glimpse into Letty's relationship with her sister, which I hope we'll get a bigger look into in future books.

I don't want to dig into the plot too much and spoil things, so I'll quickly summarize and say that I was able to see why Letty choose to turn into Sherlock [in mysteries I usually become annoyed with the leads for being nosy when they turn into aumter sleuths and place themselves in danger], and I didn't work out who the killer was until Letty herself did.

I really enjoy the Letty Whitaker series. I'm not so sad about her lack of romance with her former boss, now. I don't want to really spill any details about the story, but it is always something with Letty, and now she has a cohort in her friend Beth, plus a smoking hot "Snake" with whom she has a mutual attraction, all while trying to solve mysteries and keep her counseling work going. I just suggest you read these books, but, by all means, start with the first.

While I really enjoyed the story, I found myself distracted by numerous grammatical errors and omissions, hence the three stars rather than four. I hope there is better editing of the next book, because I really do enjoy the series.

GREAT

Not the same story o errors and over again. Each book is a stand alone, but I'm addicted, no pun intended, since AA is a premise in each novel. Great writing, great story, and refreshing with no editing issues.
