Award-winning author Margaret Moore actually began her career at the age of eight, when she and a friend concocted stories featuring a lovely, spirited damsel and a handsome, misunderstood thief nicknamed "The Red Sheik." Unknowingly pursuing her destiny, Margaret graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. During that time, she also became a Leading Wren with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, where she learned to use a variety of weapons and had the weepy experience of being tear-gassed. In addition to being a wife and mother of two, she's also been an award-winning public speaker, synchronized swimmer, an archer, and studied fencing and ballroom dancing.
Margaret sold her first historical romance and the premiere book of her Warrior series, A WARRIOR'S HEART, to Harlequin Historicals® in 1991. Since that time, she's written over 25 historical romance novels and novellas. She has also written for Avon Books, as well as a young adult historical romance for HarperCollins Childrens Books. She now writes for Harlequin's new single title imprint, HQN.
Her books have been published in France, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Brazil, Korea, Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Russia, Poland and India.
I don't generally like Harlequin books (they're not meaty enough for me), yet somehow I always end up buying Harlequins and not realizing it until I get the book home. And then I don't enjoy them. But I was actually excited to read this, because I like medieval romance.
I also liked the cover... and I really liked the image on the back, which shows the MCs having a good ole time.
When I started reading this, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the characters and side characters, finding them well-developed with seemingly little effort on the author's part. Their interactions seemed natural and amused me, and the leads intrigued me. I love marriages of convenience, especially when they involve two strangers who have to overcome their differences before falling in love.
That definitely happened here. Roger was kind of a blustering jerk, but it was evident that he only acted that way because 1) he thought it was expected, and 2) he sometimes had to cover up his own confusion and insecurity. He had slept with one of the servants before he was to be married, but before the wedding even took place he told her their liaison had to end. So he was pretty decent at heart, even though he didn't know how to act at times.
One thing that utterly dumbfounded me was what the heroine did on their wedding night. She WHAT THE FUCK??? When she finally explained it to him, he was rightfully angry. It was somewhat explained by her past, but I was just so confused by this scene. Like, WHY??? Surely there was a better way to create conflict than unnecessarily malicious deception.
Anyway, this got a bit cheesy toward the end, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I can't say I'll read it over and over, but for now I'm going to keep it in my collection.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
All the childish worrying and accusing one another when ONE simple conversation could be had that would clear it all up … which inevitable happened at the END, so this story was a waste of time. Roger was a handsome husband and all things virile with the emotional intelligence of a toddler and mistook every look, touch, conversation but refused to COMMUNICATE. Mina was proud and pigheaded and tried to speak but each time she was thwarted she didn’t try any further. A SIMPLE story of misunderstands that got cleared up and taken care of in a PARAGRAPH! 👎🏽👎🏽
I really enjoy seeing two headstrong people battling out in a fight for love. Mina is so tenacious and likable. I really enjoyed reading this book again. It's a definite must for anyone who loves historical romance.
Five stars from me! Probably because this book was the first romance novel I ever read and is nostalgic for me. All the characters are great, especially Mina, the main character. I try to reread this book once a year.
This book/writer is very very good,....it is exciting from beginning till the end. Lady Mina, not so beautifull, has to married with the cold, hard and demanded Sir Roger,.. He dont believe in love, only in obedience,..from his wife. But Mina, wants respect, and will get it,..but it is very hard to get, from someone, who never in his life was told, what to do or not! And what to do if love is in the air? ,...........
This book is just like Connie Mason,...it gaves me tears in my eyes!
I remember that I quite enjoyed this book when I went through my historical romance phase back in the old days. But now that I think back on it, I know that were other books that I enjoyed more than this one. I'm not saying this was a bad read but after a quick browse, I know I'm remembering things wrong.
