Wow. I had to keep reminding myself as I was reading that this was a memoir. I don’t know if it was the style of writing or the insanity of the events, but it very much read like crime fiction, which I think also aided in my enjoyment of it, as I am not normally one for nonfiction. You ever heard, “wow, your life is so crazy you should write a book about it?” That’s essentially what this guy did, and I totally get it. From beginning to end, it’s a wild ride and I don’t know how he made it through some of the events. From a mob enforcer, to a police informant, to just dad… and then the illness. Life really threw whatever it had at this guy. It’s also an interesting look behind the scenes of what us “normal civilians” aren’t typically privy to. Besides… all that stuff is just what happens on TV right? This story is here to tell you that’s wrong. Thank you to the ESI Network!
No puedo valorar la vida personal de nadie, pero la forma en la que está escrita la memoria es muy adictiva y realista. He sentido como si estuviera escuchando un podcast de true crime.

Thank you so much to the ESI Network for gifting me this book.
I have never read anything like this before and was unsure what I was getting into. However I found it eye opening to see the journey Aiden went on from early in his life. From starting out as a teenager working for a Mob to then becoming a informant through The Department of Justice as a undercover police officer. I found this a fast paced page turner I needed to know what happened next. I don't want to give to many spoilers but once you find out more information regarding his parents and his children. You really can see how trauma affects people. I truly forgot while reading this book that this was someone's life this wasn't a made up fiction thriller.
Trigger warnings: Mental Health with thoughts of suicide, violence, language

ARC Book Review Conflicting Loyalties A Memoir Written By Aiden Gabor Nonfiction Published September 2023 257 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Anyone who likes true crime stories and shows will want to read this book. It is the true story of a teenage Mafia wannabe who becomes an informant to the Department of Justice. At the age of twelve Aiden Gabor was recruited by the Mafia in New Jersey and became a mob enforcer. At the age of 18 he is given a choice - go to prison for a good part of his life or become an informant to weed out corruption by the police and politicians. He chose to be an informant.
This is a gritty story of a secret life that took a toil on Aiden’s physical health, mental health, marriage, and his relationship with his children. The story is fast paced and difficult to put down. As Aiden gets older and leaves that life behind, he must come to grips with his past. His faith and meeting his soulmate help him to put his past behind him.
“”I was never afraid to die. But now, for the first time, I wasn’t afraid to live.”
I had to remind myself multiple times while reading that the events happened to someone in real-life. It was a memoir but read like a suspense mon story. I could feel how Aiden’s confidence fell from being highly confident in his role in the crime world, to his first meeting and where is life was going. It’s scary to think of the corruption in police force and how hard it is to get enough evidence to stop it. Aiden had to make a tough choice at a young age and the emotions that followed came through in the writing style. The timeline changed a little from time to time but it was still easy to follow.
This was a fast-paced, heart-pounding account of a MOB enforcer that was coerced into the DOJ as a young college student. To me, it was hard to remember this wasn't a normal thriller but actually someone's real life.
💢Aiden loves running errands for the neighborhood guys. Asked to steal cars, beat someone up, and he goes without question. This work makes him feel in control, and he has no guilt whatsoever. Aiden starts when he's 12 and continues on through high school.
💢His other love is football, and that's what gets him into college at Michigan State. Aiden can hardly believe his good luck after everything he's done. A few weeks into school, Aiden's luck runs out. The DOJ finds him and takes him for a ride to talk.
💢Aiden's novel will appeal to true crime fanatics and thriller-suspense readers. I, for one, highly recommend this account of the life of a criminal.
**Thanks to Hannah from ESI network for providing me with a reviewer's copy for this book in exchange of an honest feedback.**
"Reality is stranger than fiction" should be the tagline of the Blockbuster hit movie that's got to be made of this incredible story and I dearly hope Netflix is taking note.
Imagine Mafia, a deceptively sleepy New Jersey town, lavish chase sequences, gang wars, dirty cops, covert operations, edge of your seat suspence. Now make that real life. Add an absentee father, a local Mafia-lord father figure, football prodigy, a dangerously menacing deal with the DOJ, a mother withholding a dark secret till her last breath, love, loss, bullet holes, and the depression, alcoholism, guilt, night terrors, unfathomable stress and despair - the inevitable side-effects of leading a high-octane dual life.
Co-written brilliantly with his wife and writter Kenny Porpora, Aiden Gabor's memoir is almost unreal. An addictive, compulsive page-turner, Conflicting Loyalties offers us a true-to-life window to the enigmatic life of the mob, informants, spy-verse, if you will. It is action-packed, it is thrilling, it is witty but it is also a very intimate portrayal of the life of an incredible man, who had a lot to endure, enough for many, many lifetimes. This book is the ultimate salute to an extraordinary life, an extraordinary man who fought his demons and emerged victorious, despite all odds.
Regardless of shadows of an ALS diagnosis looming large; Aiden Gabor now lives a peaceful, content life with his wonderful wife, love of his two sons (are they really named Christopher & Nolan? 😂) and the blessings of Baháʼu'lláh. We wish him a long and healthy life.
P.S. Though this a memoir, it reads like a most thrilling non-fiction and I would strongly recommend you to pick this one, if only just to vicariously experience how unreal real life can be!
First and foremost, I would like to thank the individual who reached out to me and asked me to read this memoir, and to say I was honored is an understatement!
If you are a true crime junkie like myself, this memoir will be right up your alley! With that said; this memoir is a true story about a man named Aiden Gabor and his life working as a double agent, essentially.
Aiden was introduced to the Italian mob at the young age of twelve; although he had always dreamed of playing professional football for the Tampa bay buccaneers! At the age of 18 while Aiden was away at college in Michigan; still pursuing his dream of playing professional football he was approached by two Department of Justice agents who delivered him one heck of an ultimatum! He could either go to prison for a majority of his life, or he could become a confidential information for the government working for various law enforcement agencies; with the hopes to bring down the most corrupt law enforcement officials as well as politicians. Aiden ultimately chose to become the informant.
This memoir is very fast paced, it kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat the entire time! The articulation of the wording in this memoir makes it feel as if the reader is working along side Aiden as well as watching all of the trials and tribulations unfold before your eyes! This book made me sad, it had me yelling Noooo, and my computer screen, but it also made me happy that while it was a very traumatic experience for Aiden, in the end he was able to finally find peace with his close friend Sam, a new found religion and his wife!
I’ve got to say I don’t usually read memoirs, my go-to genre is usually fantasy. But I’m glad that I picked this book up. This was such an amazing experience for me. Aiden from the start of his life gripped me into his story that I couldn’t turn away.
I guess Aiden started telling his story to the world in this format after being diagnosed with ALS and finding his Baha’i faith. I myself am not much of a religious person but if someone deserves peace and some tranquility in his life I would say it should be Aiden after the grinder of a life he has been through.
Some thoughts on his story,
A child will always seek validation from a father figure and if his father figure is not in the picture then he/she would turn to the next person in line who could give them some kind of validation.
Reading this memoir gave me a sense of realism that I don’t get from other books that I read.
That was some fast-paced storytelling, and even after that, I didn’t feel I was missing any important detail in his life.
Reading this book gave me a glimpse at Aiden’s life, I can’t say that I can feel the real nervousness, anxiety, or pain of Aiden’s experience completely. But I understood somewhat and I could visualize what it would have for someone if they were in his shoes. It was an interesting life he lived, I don’t wish anyone this life but Aiden lived it and came out the other end a renewed person.
Engaging & With Vivid Detail, This Book is a Page-Turner
He thought he had paid his debt, but life demanded further recompense. Aiden Gabor was about to live out his years battling a debilitating disease and, in his mind, it was payback for how he spent his youth. Back then, he had lived a double life – a high school student by day and a cruel and merciless mob enforcer by night. But hadn’t he already paid his debt for those actions? After all, he was caught and forced into becoming an informant for the Department of Justice. All those years, learning to be a cop only in order to catch corrupt ones. He had to keep his true purpose secret, affecting his own mental health and the relationships with everyone around him.
The story of Aiden Gabor is a true one. Only the names have been changed. The details of his life are told in vivid detail in a new novel called “Conflicting Loyalties.” This page-turner pulls you in from the start with its metered-out descriptions delivered bit by bit. His Hemingway-like short “sentences,” actually make the book come alive as the action seems unrelenting, beckoning the reader to go to the next page to see what happens next.
Whether you are a mob aficionado or not, this book is sure to be enticing and is a quick read that I highly recommend. I have a hard time focusing long enough to read most books and this held onto me and would not let go.
Wow. I never would have expected to actually enjoy a book that wasn’t fiction. As a heavy fiction reader, I never explore outside that genre of fantasy or romance. This book is very different from those two genres. It’s a story about something real and I was intrigued from the first chapter. An amazing story about a young boy who fell into the wrong crowd and ended up in the mob, turned informant, turned cop, and finally was able to live free but with ALS looming over his head. Aiden’s story is one I never would’ve picked up on my own but I am so thankful to the ESI network for sending me a copy to review. This is an honest review, as honest as it gets. As a person who loves watching true crime tv shows and listening to true crime podcasts, I have never picked up a true crime book. I am glad this was my first. I loved seeing the mob life through Aiden’s eyes and seeing how his story unfolded. His work for the DOJ was personally very interesting to me. Seeing the way he battled it out in his own head. I also liked the fact that it held mental health representation. Aiden dealt with depression and drinking and even had thoughts of suicide. The way he let us all in on how he felt during those moments and the very raw emotions he felt when he almost did it was very emotional. I felt it in my heart because at one point I was at that low place in life. I enjoyed learning and reading about Aiden’s story and can confidently say this won’t be my last memoir or true crime novel.
💭 ᴍʏ ᴛʜᴏᴜɢʜᴛꜱ: I don't normally read a lot of memoirs, but I do love documentaries about the drug world and true crime. It's fascinating and intriguing. It gives you a glimpse of what it's like to grow up in the mob world and trying to fit in. Finding your way in life with the situations that get presented to you. It's so easy to fall into the wrong world without having too much choice in the matter. I was hooked from start to finish. A very quick read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Aiden's story оf his double life as a mob enforcer and a DOJ informant іs a gripping memoir that he wrote after finding the Baha’i faith and being diagnosed with ALS. I admire Aiden's courage and resilience. He deserves some peace and tranquility after all the hardships he has faced.

😊What i liked -
✔ Memoir. ✔ This book really shook me up. ✔ The way it has been written you really feel that this is a suspense novel. So I really had to keep reminding myself that it's based on true events. ✔ It shocked me and did not shock me at the same. ✔ It's a fast paced book. It keeps you hooked.
Aiden Gabor seems like every other teenager. He is a star on the football team, a likeable guy and a decent student. But there is something that sets him apart; he is an enforcer for the mob at a very young age. When he heads off to college with a football scholarship, Department of Justice offers him a conflicting deal. Go to jail or help turn in crooked cops. So begins this memoir, filled with violence, choices and a whole lot of heart.
While I was reading this, I found it hard to believe this was non-fiction. There is so much action, plot and captivating characters that it felt as if someone had created it when that is not the case at all. I can’t help but compare my life with those in memoirs, and how different a few circumstances can make our lives so vastly different.
Aiden’s voice is captivating, and he tells his story with such authority and passion. So many different emotions throughout his life are conveyed so well through the page. And what a fascinating life! It was such a cool experience to read about the choices and hardship that Aiden faced. But overall, my heart was so happy when Sabrina enters the picture. Those scenes will stick in my head for a long time, and all the love and learning that came with that unlikely duo.
If you are interested in true crime, with a bit of a twist and memoirs in general, I recommend checking out this short and sweet novel!
Conflicting Loyalties is a memoir that will make you feel a range of emotions. Aiden Gabor grew up in an area riddled with crime, but he found a home working with the Italian mob. First as an errand boy before climbing to the rank of enforcer, Aiden realized that he could hurt people without really caring about it. When the feds started to bring the heat, Aiden's crew disbanded and he found himself playing football at the University of Michigan.
What should have been the start of a brighter future for Aiden would come crashing down when two DOJ agents came with an ultimatum: work for us or go to prison. Once again Aiden found a purpose in smoking out corrupt cops and politicians.
Conflicting Loyalties isn't a feel good story, but the story of an average man just trying to get by in life given the cards he was dealt. I did notice some date inconsistencies, specifically surrounding his dad who he had a difficult relationship with. I also would have liked to read more about where Aiden's sons ended up, especially Chris.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I don't usually read memoirs, but this one had my attention from the start. The fact that this was someone's life was crazy but also amazing. Some of the things Aiden had gone through were terrifying, brutal, and violent. Through all of that, he came out on the other side, wanting to be a better man. There were times I felt so sad for him. He just wanted a place to belong and he couldn't find it. I'm so glad that in the end, he had his family and his good friends. Not only was violence a theme in this book, but family violence was also discussed. Aiden experienced violence and had violent actions, but it was passed unintentionally from his mother and also to his son. This memoir showed his descent into violence but also his wanting to break the cycle. Honestly, this book made me feel so many emotions, and I don't think I can write them all down.
This was an incredibly fascinating story! It’s not something I’d normally pick up, but I’m so glad I did! It was a gripping read. I enjoyed the engaging and snappy writing style. There was something very conversational about it that pulled me right in. I didn’t want to put it down.
I was completely engrossed in this memoir by Aiden Gabor. I enjoyed reading about how he went from working for the mob to being an informant for the DOJ. It was very interesting to read about his time as a police officer and how he brought down corrupt cops. The things Gabor went through and the things he did! And to come out on the other side of it the way he has! Wow! Inspiring!
This was an enlightening read that I highly recommend. To say it was compelling is an understatement!
Thanks so much to Hannah with the ESI network for gifting me a copy of this book for an honest review!
I really enjoyed this memoir and had to constantly remind myself that it was a true story, that’s how interested in this book I was while reading! I enjoyed reading about Aiden and his struggles from his young teenage years through his adult years, going from a MOB enforcer to a DOJ informant as a young college student. I liked how fast paced it was and how it read kind of like a suspense/thriller instead of like a normal memoir. It definitely kept me interested and although this is not usually something I would be interested in because it’s definitely not in my typical genre of romance or fantasy, I’m definitely glad I read this one!
If you are a lover of the crime genre then you will find Conflicting Loyalties as intriguing as I did! The author, Aiden Gabor, recounts his life from a youngster running with the mob to his adult life being forced to join the police force to be an undercover informant for the DOJ. The stories he tells really allow you to envision what he must have been going through and the conflicting emotions he felt. All through his life he wondered at his casual indifference to inflicting violence. At the end of the book he finally learns the shocking truth of his ancestors and is able to finally find peace after a long and tumultuous life. Thank you so much @esinetwork for gifting us this copy! 🌺🧜🏻♀️
“I was never afraid to die. But now, for the first time, I wasn’t afraid to live.”
This was such an impressive and intriguing memoir about a mob enforcer turned DOJ informant!
If you like true crime stories/shows, then this one is for you!
I was captivated by this firsthand account by Aiden of living a double life and how he came to grips with his past as he got older. It touched on many lessons- the thin line between right and wrong, courage, justice, redemption, and many more.
A very easy and fast paced read that will inspire you! Recommend checking this one out!💙
Thank you @conflictingloyaltiesbook and @theesinetwork for the #gifted copy!🫶🏼
A memoir with a true detective vibe, Conflicting Loyalties will grab you from beginning to end. At the age of 12, Aiden started with the mafia and then became a mob enforcer. Caught when he was 18, he was given a choice: go to prison or become an informant for the police, and wisely, he chose the latter. There is this Donnie Brasco vibe as he was also an informant, but the coincidences stop at this point. A great read for those who are looking for a REAL detective story. I highly recommend it.
I flew through this book. It was so entertaining and had me hanging on every word. I rarely read memoirs, but I do like true crime and politics, so this was right up my alley. The author tells all about his past and his criminal youth that brought him to being an informant. You get to understand the choices and decisions he had to make for survival.
Even though it’s a quick read, it’s jam. packed with information. I was intrigued from beginning to end. I recommend this one if you like action and suspense.
Thanks to The ESI Network for gifting me this ebook for my honest review.
A must-read for true crime aficionados especially if you are searching for in-depth information about the Mafia. The book may explore themes of betrayal, fear, and the search for truth.
Secrets surface, the past unravels, and a shocking twist awaits: the author embraces the very darkness he seeks to expose.
Packed with action and emotion, the book was impossible to put down. The writing was engaging and easy to follow, making it a truly enjoyable read.
Before I start my review, this book could use being proof-read again. I found a good bit of simple typos that most readers would find annoying. This isn't the book I would typically read. However, it did capture my attention and keep me reading. It was interesting hearing how Aiden's life played out and I'm glad he got his happily ever after. I was really shocked at what his dad told him about his mother's childhood and why they split up.
The book starts with the main character receiving an ALS diagnosis. Then you go back to a troubled family life and childhood. He gets through many tough things in life and finally, when things are better he has a heart attack and the test reveals his ALS diagnosis he finds a religion that brings him comfort. His life story is interesting don't want to reveal that, it is a quick read, not my usual genre but I did like it.
A gripping true crime memoir that had me hooked from the very beginning.
It follows the captivating journey of young football star Aiden Gabor as he turns from a mafia mob enforcer to a DOJ informant.
The book accounts his life in rich detail, drawing you in with the authors short, sharp sentences it really is a page-turner. At just 200 pages I flew through this in no time at all.
If you like true crime, memoirs and fast-paced reads, I recommend giving this a read.
I don’t normally read memoirs but I’m glad I picked this one up. Aiden tells his story from a high school kid to late in his life. He lived a fascinating life filled with crime and putting criminals to justice. He didn’t have an easy life and he wrote about it very very well. The stories he shared are told in a way that I felt I was reading fiction because it was so well written. I highly recommend this book!
Memoirs aren't my usual go to, but I love true crime and this book was so good I didn't want to put it down. Conflicting Loyalties is a fast paced, easy to read story, and Aiden's story will completely captivate you. Some of the things that he went through will horrify you and make you feel so sad for what he had to endure. I highly recommend this book.
