Hystoria #1

Reimagined

Rate this book
What started as the one who got away ended as the one I never wanted to see again. Now, he’s back.

Seven years ago, Cole had the nerve to kiss me goodbye before he and our best friends ghosted me and went off to become rockstars. The kicker? They did it by stealing my song and destroying my life.
Fast forward to now, and I’ve never been better. I’m the one pulling the strings behind the scenes, the one who makes sensations out of nobodies. Suddenly, my old friends need my help—practically beg for it. And Cole? He wants a second chance.

I should despise him, loathe everything he stands for. But he’s working hard for my forgiveness, and damn it, our chemistry is still electric.

I keep telling myself it’s a bad idea. What if he’s just using me like before? Can my heart take it, if he breaks it again?
There’s too much at stake. There’s no way I can let him back in.

Or can I?

The one who got away, that not only broke her trust and her heart, he then came back.

The plot follows teenage Vivian and the Hystoria boys Paxton, Jake, Simon and the boy she is willing to throw her last year of high school away for, Cole.

Hystoria make the big time when their they're invited out to LA to perform their music, but with Vivian being younger than the boys she still has a year and a half of high school left; despite her parents and sister Clara having no time for Viv the one thing they request is that she finishes high school. Cole promises Viv on their last night together under the beautiful shooting stars that as soon as she's graduated he's coming back for her, she plays him one of her own songs and they share their first kiss together; if this all sounds too good to be true and that their love will have smooth sailing.. you'd be absolutely right because just three days later, the rug is pulled out from underneath Viv and her life falls apart.

We then jump forward eight years where Viv is working for Scaena a record label who are managing up and coming artists and Viv is managing two stars who've hit the big time Mia & Gabe .. but we no longer know her as Viv, she is now Evelyn or Eve.

Clara had convinced their parents that Eve had gotten in with a bad crowd, was skipping school and smoking so that she didn't have to babysit her anymore so her parents throw her out; for two years with nowhere and nobody to help, she has no choice but to live out of her car. Eve is found one day by none other than Joe, who invites her home for food and to get her out of the cold and from that day onwards.. she never leaves.

Eve is officially adopted by Joe & Rose when she is 21 becoming the daughter they always wanted and never had; she becomes the best of friends with her now brother Liam who always has her corner and officially leaves her old life behind.. or so she thinks.

Eve manages to avoid Hystoria for 8 years, after they blocked, ghosted her and dropped off the face of the earth leaving Eve questioning everything.. until she hears her OWN song on the radio sung by the smooth, familiar voice she had known was Cole's.

When Hystoria's contract with their record label is months away from coming to an end, they have no choice but to reach out to the best in the business, none other than Eve. Will she help the band, will she listen to Cole's version of what happened and give him another chance? You'll have to read Reimagined to find out!

I was lucky enough to be sent this book as an ARC by Hailey, which I'm so so grateful for. I loved the concept of the story with them being rock stars and the second chance romance. I did struggle with the huge time jump from the first chapter to the second without too much context until later on in the book and for me personally, especially towards the end of the story the last few chapters I feel a lot happens much too quickly, we see Eve hold a grudge for so long, to then forgive really easily and their relationship go from zero to a hundred wasn't something that I enjoyed which is why I rated this book 3 stars as I would have loved the book to be longer to really be sucked in to the story.

4,5 wonderful stars ⭐️

I absolutely loved the plot. The book was brilliant. The characters were amusing and the couple so cute.

I read the book in one sitting. It was easy to read. The plot was smart and with no unnecessary drama. Is a MUST READ if you like sweet and drama free second chance romances.

Vee-Evelyn
She was a great female character. Strong and ambitious. Not mean or petty after what they did to her. It was good for once to read a book that the female was actually leading the story.

Cole
He was sweet and honest but I will have loved to see more of him, I would have loved to see the story from his point of view. He was trying to do all the right things and I loved his determination.

They were a beautiful couple, but I gave 4,5 stars to the book because I want it more from their past. I want it to see more of them together before. At times I did not felt connected to the couple. Even though the book was good I felt that it was quick. I want it to see more of her story in between the years they were apart.

All the side characters were funny and made the book interesting. I honestly can’t wait for the other stories especially Pax’s.

[I received this book as an ARC reader and this is my honest review]

(I write the above with respect to the authors hard work)

I honestly read this book in one sitting, I really enjoyed it and I will definitely reread at some point.
I laughed so hard at the gender reveal party story (no pregnancy, don't worry lol). Gabe's reaction was so funny.
Eve's character is so strong, she did her best to overcome what happened to her, and she did it with the help of her found family and also therapy, which I loved for her. She really is an amazing woman and I found myself rooting for her at all times.
I feel like I needed a few more details about Cole's life before he found Eve again, it would've helped me understand him better. Even after we found out what happened, I still kinda wanted more from him.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable second chance romance, and the writing was very, very good. I am super excited for all future books in this series, especially Mia's - that sounds exactly like my cup of tea lol

.

I received this book as an arc reader and this is my honest review. I want to thank Hailey for considering me, as this was my first arc and I almost cried when I got the email.

TITLE: Reimagined
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
AUTHOR: Hailey Frost
TROPE: Rockstar, Second Chance, Enemies-to-Lovers
TYPE: Series (Hystoria Book 1)
POV: First Person
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

Reimagined is for you if you're looking for a rockstar, second-chance romance with lots of grovelling. The story centers around Vivian (Evelyn) when she is saying to Cole as his band is in the process of heading off to LA to fulfill their dreams of making it big with their band Hystoria. But in the process of them leaving, Vivian's world comes crashing down when she is kicked out of her home and is ghosted by her first love and best friend, only to find that they have stolen a song she wrote, and it is all she now hears on the radio.

Reimagined is a story about inner strength, found family and second chances; while it is on the lighter side of the smut scale, I found it to be an enjoyable read with characters I enjoyed. I loved seeing Vivian's (Evelyn's) inner strength with all she has overcome. Reimagined is the first book by Hailey Frost, but I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series when it comes out. I am giving Reimagined a rating of 4 / 5 Stars.

Spice 🌶️🌶️

Rockstar romance, Slow burn, enemies to lovers, second chance romance, so much groveling, single POV, HEA

This book was so good. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this standalone series when they release. The plot really keeps you guessing. It’s a mix of childhood friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, and second chance romance. They could’ve been lovers from the beginning but Cole let himself be the enemy. Then he had to grovel and crawl his way into Eve’s good graces. After everything she had been through she definitely didn’t give in easy which I appreciated. It was very realistic. I could tell she loved him and wanted to give in but she had to protect her heart and her peace.

This book had some spice but it wasn’t over the top. It was definitely a slow burn. She made us wait for those steamy scenes. But they were descriptive and very hot 🥵 Cole knows what he’s doing and Hailey didn’t hesitate to tell us all about it once they finally do the deed.

I’ve never read any rockstar romance so I didn’t know what to expect. Hailey Frost didn’t disappoint. The only thing I would’ve changed about this book would be adding a sentence at the beginning of Chapter 2 letting you know there was a time lapse. You don’t find out until later in chapter 2 that it’s like seven year later. So that was a tiny bit confusing. But it does get explained relatively quickly.

Two of my favorite quotes:

“If you call bullshit on everything else I am telling you, I need you to believe this: I came back for you.”

“I need to sleep next to you. I really want you be the last thing I see before I close my eyes and the first one when I open them.” … “Then I want you to ride my face and come on it again and again until all you can remember is my name.”

- Cole

Loved this book!! Read it in one go.. couldn’t stop once I’d started.

Absolutely loved all the characters, Eve is so strong. With everything that happened, I loved how she overcame everything. Loved her character and how she dealt with seeing them again.
Cole was brilliant, really had to work for forgiveness which I was glad of. Would have liked more from his point of view and how he was after leaving but was still great without.
Side note: Liam is hilarious! Was my favourite, made me laugh quite a lot.

Book was a great read and would definitely recommend. Will be waiting for the next books to read as well.

What drew me to this book was that it was a second chance with lots of groveling and a FMC that doesnt just forgive, she is understandably angry and hurt, and that is a big part of the book and even big part of their relationship, and that was refreshing to see. Also has a great group of family and friends around her.

Read this in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down.
I’m a sucker for a good grovel!

Eve was great! Strong character and doesn’t back down or cave instantly. I loved that. My heart hurt for her so many times. Cole was great too! Both characters I really adored.

The plot was great! I will definitely read more from this author.

If you like second chance romances, groveling, and a strong fmc you will like this book 🩷

This is not what second chance should be. The guy did not nearly groveled enough for what he did. And the girl was just simply too okay to let things go. The guy forgave their friend who stole the song, ruined her life and did so much more just cause. He could’ve reached out and in the early stages but was a coward and blocked her. It just pissed me off how unemotional she was. She made it too boring

Not NEARLY enough grovel, in my opinion. My girl lived out of her car for TWO YEARS!

I also wished we could have had more interactions with the whole band. We got Paxton pulling a 180 on us and being the villian in our story. But not much on the other band members, even though we should be connecting with them enough that we'll want to read their books.

They were her best friends and first loves as teens before her world fell apart. Now she is finally in a good place in her life when he finds her again.

Evie has achieved success as a music producer, agent, and songwriter. She has a found family and a few close friends. Big names in the music industry are begging to work with her.
Her past trauma still haunts her. Her best friend and first love left her behind at age 16 and then stole her music. Leading to a series of horrible events that Evie barely survived though. She will never forgive Cole and his 3 band mates, also her friends, even though that was 8 years ago.

Evie knew she would run into them eventually despite her best efforts. She is done being a quiet, forgettable person. She is going to get answers for her own closure and put them in their place. But when things go differently and truth is revealed, Evie wonders if she can truly forgive them,
most of all Cole, who broke her heart.

Single POV, second chance at first love, open door love scenes.

This is exactly the kind of book you expect for this genre. High levels of drama, miscommunication trope, famous rock star weak for one girl from his past. The writing style felt both juvenile and wordy at the same time. A lot of on page content was spent in distracting secondary plots that weren't that interesting. The pacing was off. The whole center plot dragged until about the half way point. Once the two protagonists are finally face to face their relationship lacked emotional maturity and emotional intelligence. Cole plays out like a one dimensional character. I'm not entirely convinced Evie will ever fully forgive Cole despite their happy ever after. Overall, these two lacked depth and felt like a caricature of the "rock star romance" genre. Nice HEA and Epilogue. I tried to access the bonus Epilogue but the author's website refused to accept my information for the newsletter.

Reimagined is Hailey’s debut novel, and what a brilliant start.
It’s the story of Eve, formerly known as Vi, and Cole the lead singer of a band called Hystoria. They were childhood friends and each others first loves until Cole and his band stole one of Eve’s songs, ghosted her and left her life in ruins, now their band is in trouble and they need Eve’s help.
This was a great read and I really enjoyed the storyline as Cole tried to win back Eve and rebuild their relationship. It jumped a little bit at the beginning as it started in the past and then jumped to modern day, and I did think that would continue throughout the book as we learnt more about what had happened in the past but it was only the initial chapter. We get to learn about the past and what happened to Eve from her talking to her friends and family about it. She went through a lot and her trust issues are absolutely shot but it helps to build her character and explain why she acts how she does nowadays, always trying to keep some form of barrier up to protect herself.
The entire book is told from Eve’s POV and whilst I enjoyed that and liked her character it did mean that we only ever got her inner monologues and thoughts and I would have loved to have had some of the male characters POV so we could explore their thoughts and feelings and also see how they dealt with things when they were away from Eve.
There were some really sweet moments in the book with everything from ‘gender reveal parties’ to date nights to dogs. In amongst the drama and grovel they brought a lightness to the story and some much needed positivity. The sideline characters such as Joe, Mia and Liam were perfect for the story, they all cared massively for Eve and it showed the type of person she was to attract the love of so many.

I have to be entirely honest, this didn't really well as a romance. I should have just passed over it when I saw the spelling mistake on the cover, but I ignored it. The problem was that after the first chapter, when Cole betrays Vivian/Evelyn, we skip forward 8 years and then they don't reconnect until about 50%. We spend most of the book in a character-driven plot that doesn't necessarily need a romance. In fact, if the author had not tried to force chemistry and reconciliation between Cole and Eve, this would have been a decent, if a little bland, literary fiction.

Instead, we get Cole acting like a puppy dog that hasn't learned the word 'No' yet and Eve who doesn't demand actual groveling. This is technically a spoiler but honestly, it was pretty apparent from the beginning of the reconnection who the real villain of the book is, but it doesn't matter who did the original betraying. Cole went along with it. Cole blocked and ghosted Eve. Cole expected Eve to still be waiting for him while he ran off with her stolen work and got famous. The fact that Eve basically forgave him because he wouldn't leave her alone was irritating.

And Paxton repeatedly calling Eve a bitch, being cruel, and being an all around piece of shit didn't make Cole look any better. That's your friend, dude. Why are you letting him talk to a woman you want to work with you like that? Every character in this was spineless and irritating. The romance was mediocre at best. The pacing was weird and didn't work well with the romance plot.

And one of the biggest irritation was that someone "putting up the middle finger" was done 10 times. Which doesn't seem like a lot but I was already irritated with the story and this was like a rock in the shoe on top of it.

Overall an enjoyable story.

The pace was great as it didnt drag on into a long drawn out story. I did feel there were quite a few loose ends or missing parts that I wanted to know.

They were a bit niave when it came to one of their band members. He was untrustworthy from the very beginning so what did they expect.

We never got to see Cole tell Eve about his sexual/relationship history. I read a lot, and it is something that usually comes up naturally in the story, so I definitely miss it when it’s not there as raises questions that get left unanswered……was he a player? Had he had serious relationships? It’s important to character development as we get to know them more.

Eve mentioned a singer she was interested in hearing again, I felt that a thread was started but it never went anywhere.

The story with her sister and mother was another loose end.

Personally it just felt a bit unfinished to feel like a full well rounded story.

✨ ARC Review ✨

When i read the plot to this book. I was hooked. I was lucky enough to recieve a copy for an honest review . This book covers a few of my favourite troupes ( I swear this list gets bigger each read!)

- enemies to lovers
- past friendships
- rockstar romance
- slow burn

Reimagined is about Vivian, but she changed her name to Evelyn / Eve and Cole, her ex best friend and a member of the band, Hystoria. She knew the Hystoria boys since high school (there's an age gap of 2 years) , she was friends with all the band members. The story begins when they're in high school, giving us readers an insight on their close friendship that they once had.

Evelyn is a strong woman who has conquered all that is thrown at her. She has faced a difficult childhood, instead of being naive she is a sassy woman who takes no sh*t.. I love that! She didn't just forgive straight away, she made sure that they needed to work to gain her trust. Huge points for Hailey for giving us a strong woman!

This is written in a single POV but i think it would have been better having dual so we could understand Cole's past from his perspective and maybe help connect to him a little more. I enjoyed the slow burn romance and the build up to their relationship.

I like how Cole managed to get his girl back, he did NOT give up. They were sooooo cute!! BUT he did lose points even knowing the truth after the song was released he didn't try and reach out in the whole 7 years but only made contact when they, the band, needed something , that deserves a little more grovelling.

This is book 1 in the Hystoria series but can be read as a standalone. If you want a book that will make you feel every emotion then this is for you! I enjoyed the writing style and finished this book in a day, i couldn't put it down!

My only issues with this book-

- The time jump from first chapter to the 2nd., that confused me a bit
- Since this is the first book in the series i knew there would be mentions of other band members. It was nice to be introduced so early in the book BUT within the first 3 chapters we are given a lot of names and personally i found it was a little hard to keep up.

Overall, a really good read! Again, thank you Hailey for the opportunity to read this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this book but felt way too many things were glossed over. Multiple issues in this book were barely acknowledged which was frustrating because those storylines had potential and would have made the story better imo.

I also would have liked more interactions with the other band members because the only members book I really feel there was a build up for is Pax, there was a tiny bit for Jakes book but none for Simons so maybe I'd have to read Jake's book to be excited for Simons.

All in all it was a good read and I did finish it in one sitting. I did enjoy the authors writing style and will most likely check out more books by her

Overall I enjoyed yhe book, but second chance romances can be very hit and miss. I was hooked on the story but it really didn't feel like there was any groveling from Cole. I loved the found family, there was great banter, and a healthy respect for mental health and therapy. Eve wasn't a pushover by any means and had no problem standing up for herself.

"Here is your reality check, Gabe. You can appreciate all you want, but that still does not mean that anyone owes you a second chance.” I cross my arms. “And thinking you do is really damn arrogant. You fuck up, you live with the consequences. Some fuck ups are just not forgivable."

This book had the potential to be good, but the lack of a real grovel left me feeling disappointed. Cole and his band stole Eve's song, and her life fell apart as a result. The book tries to portray Paxton as the sole villain because he orchestrated everything and lied to the others, claiming Eve had given them the song. However, when Cole discovered the truth on the day the song was released, instead of reaching out to apologize, he blocked her. It's really hard to believe he truly loved her after such actions.

Childhood friends to enemies to lovers 🙌🙌 with a rockstar - HECK YES!

I was a feral reader and read book 3 first. I do have to say that I liked this one better - now maybe it had something to do with knowing the backstory that I was missing in book 3 but I really enjoyed Cole & Eve's story.

The scene with the stars and how Cole programmed it to the night in their past - all the feels 😭😭😭 So romantic!

Disappointed

It wasn't really my type of story. Not much on the rock star, only one pov,and no idea who Cole was with alk those years. I really did not like Evie . she was a very unforgiving person and quick to drop friends. I did not like what you did to the band. I will check the other books to see what happens.

Not to bad!

I've got to admit I expected a bit more from this book. It started off well, but then it could have added so much more. I got to admit when the truth came out about her past I thought Paxton & her sister were in it together again. It would of made sense and a lot more interesting using the jealous sister angle. It was a nice read but could of bad a bit more drama.
