Sara Fields returns to her world of the Dragonborne where fantasy and magic rule and this time, the focus shifts to an entirely brand new cast of characters—Nykor and Ella. I enjoyed their story even though I was initially put off by Nykor's coldness and indifference towards his heroine. However, their connection and chemistry was too hard to resist even for this ancient being who previously had his heart broken. Fans of the author's prior works will be happy to know that the love scenes were incredibly erotic and steamy. Once Nykor fell for Ella and decided to keep her, he did not hold back and took everything she had to offer—including her innocence. Their first time together was explosive and worth all the tease and punishments that Ella had to go through because of her defiance. Like many of Sara Fields' heroines, Ella was defiant and sassy but also sweet and obedient. She would deliberately go against Nykor's instructions and there would be major consequences because of it. This made for an entertaining read due to their push and pull relationship.

"Maybe it was fate or destiny, but I think it was just her."

In the end, Nykor and Ella's story was an unexpected surprised because I never thought that Sara Fields was going to expand on this turbulent but fantastical world of hers. I'm curious about the Dark King, the main "antagonist" of this series, and the Seer's role in uniting the Dragonborne with their mates. There must be more to their actions and I look forward to finding out what that may be in the future. I highly recommend this book to those who like the following tropes: grumpy/sunshine, touch her and you die, soulmates/destined to be together, and forced proximity. It is a fantasy romance with dark erotic elements and features a possessive and dominant hero who valiantly tries to deny his destiny but ends up falling for his shy but defiant heroine anyway. I like that despite his attempts at distancing himself from Ella, she was never too far from Nykor's mind because she was always getting into trouble.

Ella Snow is at Hampton Manor Stables. Her stepmother Aurora has her working as a house maid. She sneaks off early most mornings to see the horses before anyone wakes up. Today is her 21st birthday. Her mother died giving birth to her and she was the love of her father’s life. He isn’t around much since he’s a very talented heart surgeon. Her father doesn’t realize how Ella is treated when he is not home.

Her family is hosting a massive charity gala for the East Hampton Historical Society tonight. Her stepmother Aurora and her two stepsisters Bentley and Mackenzie would be going to it. Ella is to make sure their dresses fit perfectly. Ella had saved some money for a riding outfit. Ella plans on wearing it to the stables tonight while the three of them are out at the gala. However, Mackenzie snooped in the back of Ella’s closet and found the outfit. Mackenzie made a scene and Aurora cut the outfit to shreds. Aurora forbids Ella to go near the stables and banishes Ella to her room once they leave for the gala.

After they leave, Ella opens the bottle of champagne she stole and wanders towards the stables. Suddenly a bolt of lightning hits a tree in front of Ella. Then she is surrounded by a blizzard. She gets dizzy and passes out. She wakes up far from home in a cave.

Nykor is a dragon shifter and he protects the people of Icegard. He lost his heart 100 years ago to a human named Yasmina. Nykor knows that Ella was brought to their world for him but he is guarding his heart. He never wants to be hurt again.

Will Nykor keep Ella safe? Who brought Ella to Icegard? Will Nykor open his heart to his soulmate? Can they save Icegard together? What does Ella think of this new world?.

This was a brilliant read that was surrounded danger,drama, intrigue, mystery, betrayal, Prophecy are just few things that have you flipping the pages to find out how it all works out. Ella Snow is living with her stepmother Aurora and her two daughters Bentley and Mackenzie who treat her like she is nothing and when her father who is a heart surgeon who is away a lot doesn’t know how they all use her as there maid and her only time of peace is in the stables with the horses and so now there is to be Charity Ball at the house and Ella must get there clothes ready for them and while at the Gala she will be in the stables but Mackenzie find her new riding stuff and tells her mothers who shreds them and she is barred from the stables but she goes out anyway because its her 21st birthday when a flash of light happens right before her she wakes in a strange land that’s freezing cold and when a dragon comes to get her she try’s to run but her catches and when he changes into a gorgeous man who bares her bottom and spanks her for trying to run away when he saved her life and at first she is shocked by his dominance but finds she enjoyed it as well. Nykor is a dragon shifter who protects his people in Icegard and had no plans of taking a human mate again after Yasmina and that was 100yrs ago but Ella was brought into his life but doesn’t ‘t know why but can he protect his heart when she temps him like only a soul mate can and the pleasure he got from spanking her is going to make it hard to stay away but can they save his world together from the darkness thats taken over. Will Nykor give his heart away to Ella and does she stay or does she try to get back home and leave her hot and sexy mate behind. Definitely a must read book.

“I cannot be the man you want me to be.”

I absolutely loved Dragon King and was thrilled when I discovered Sara was writing a follow up to it. Dragon King was complex, rich, unique and amazing so I knew Ice King would be amazing. For the most part, I was right. To be fair, Dragon King set the bar exceptionally high and while Ice King didn’t quite reach as high, it’s still a fantastic book. The world Sara has created for these books is incredibly interesting and magical. Yes, it’s dark. No one who has read any of her books expects a lighthearted RomCom. But one thing I love about her is that in addition to dark mafia and sci-fi romances sometimes she really does offer us something different and unique. This series is exactly that. There is nothing typical about Nykor. He constantly surprised me. It was great. Ella was a little more typical. I actually found her to be the one part of the book that wasn’t up to the rest. She didn’t really stand out as a true heroine and I couldn’t help but feel he deserved someone stronger to be his mate but in the end, she was what he wanted so I’m happy he got her. I really hope Sara plans more Dragonborne Kings as I really love this world and clearly there are several possibilities. We shall have to wait and see. Finally I can’t possibly leave a review and not mention that Ice King has one of the most gorgeous covers I’ve ever seen. I plan to buy a paperback copy just because it will look so beautiful on my bookshelf.

Ice King follows Ella Snow and Dragonborne King Nykor. An exciting dragon shifter/human romance with steamy scenes, spankings and action galore.

Ella's story starts out very similar to Cinderella. A widowed father who remarried and is too caught up with other obligations to notice what's going on with her. A cruel, neglectful, uncaring stepmother and 2 stepsisters that treat her as their personal maid, seamstress and all around servant. Then everything changes on her 21st birthday when she is swept into a strange extremely cold new realm.

Nykor is the rightful heir and King of Icegard but after tragedy he turned his back on that duty and instead he set out to eliminate the enemies. Now the realm is under attack from the Dark King of Helheim who sends monsters, Orc, hellhounds and ice wraiths through the rift into Icegard. There's only one way to stop the Dark King, Nykor must follow the prophecy and take a mate to save his Kingdom. Is Ella the one who will break through his frozen heart and become his mate or will Nykor refuse to acknowledge the prophecy dooming his people to darkness?

Sara Field’s Ice King was, to me, more entertaining than the first book in this series. I loved the initial Cinderella fairytale elements that rapidly shifted over to something else entirely, once she was transported to the icy realm. Potential spoiler, I will admit that I was really hoping for a showdown with the stepmother/stepsisters. That would have been AWESOME. Meanwhile, we have a bit of a continuation of the problems with neighbors (heh, I’m referring to the Dark King) that started in The Dragon King. But, more importantly, we have Ella and Nykor’s story and it’s tasty in all the right (wrong) ways. We have aspects that are deliciously dark, we have a very tortured king, and we have a delightful heroine who very much patterns the love and harmony that Cinderella had. Did I mention that for such an icy story, it’s downright hot?

Ella Snow’s life was like a Cinderella story. An evil stepmother and two evil step sisters. They cared nothing for her but themselves. Making her mend their dress for the event to take place. Ella only wanted to enjoy the horses on the land. When a freak storm rolled through she was taken to a world of snow and ice. She certainly didn’t expect to meet a dragon. Nykor, Dragon of Icegard, had a chance at a mate with a human once before. He no longer wishes for one. But the fates have given one. This story makes you feel like dreams do come true. Yes, Nykor tries to push Ella away but she is not a woman to be fooled. She knew he had feelings for her. She had to get him to let them out. And BOY did these two have passion. I was surprised at one point. When you think things are finally falling into place then, WHAM. Did not see that turn. But we did get a happy ever after for them.

Sara Field’s ‘Ice King’ is the 2nd book in her Dark Dragon series and it is a scorching carnal experience. Ella is a sweet innocent woman who has a horrible stepmother and evil stepsisters. She’s kept at home as their house maid and forbidden to go to the stables. Out of the blue a storm hits and she awakens in an icy realm.

Nykor is a dragon shifter and he protects his kingdom as it fights to keep the Dark King contained. The sexual tension is immediate for both of them: he’s in denial and she doesn’t know how to handle him. Sara is so good at building relationships through impact play and dirty talking. Pain and pleasure go hand in hand and a genuine passion and love makes it even more intense. I loved this whimsical, magical world!.

This story is almost identical to another Sara Fields book. I probably wouldn’t have noticed except I read Dragon King not very long ago.

King is a dragon? Check
King doesn’t want a mate? Check
Brutal sex to a virgin (both vaginal and anal) Same sex continues throughout? Check and check
Stupid female enjoys being brutalized? Check
A rift between kingdoms? Check
Female betrayed by someone she trusts? Check
King sees error of his ways and arrives at rift? Check
Female sprouts wings? She helps to save the day? Double Check

There may be other commonalities but those are off the top of my head.

I started out thinking I would compare Ice King to a previously read book and was really taken aback when I realized both were by the same author. Two stars for lack of originality.

So good!! Even better than the first book in this series.
Gotta love hot, muscular, huge dragons!
The chemistry between Ella and the Ice King blew my mind. Lots of spankings too. I loved it.
Ella's was constantly getting hurt and or kidnapped. The Hot Ice King was always there to save her.
The Dark King still has something up his sleeve. His evil minions are constantly getting through the rift between worlds to kill and maim everyone.
The Ice King is still trying to stay away from Ella. He doesn't want to care for her. Too bad everything is stacked against him.
I have just started reading books by this author and I find I am pleasantly surprised. Besides the books having hot, intense sex scenes, the stories are fantastic. I literally can't put these books down. I look forward to reading more books by Sara.

Nykor is a king and dragon shifter who has no intention of getting involved with another human woman, but fate has other ideas. Ella is trying to enjoy what is left of her birthday when she is magically transported from her home on earth to a cave in a mountain range she does not recognize. Nykor feels the magic of a powerful spell, and when he investigates, he will find Ella, and with dangerous creatures prowling the mountains he has no choice but to take her to a safer place.
Wonderfully well written and unique characters in a deliciously carnal BDSM romance with magic sizzling hot interactions, interesting twists in the plot, and a happily ever after. A must read I recommend to other readers.

This series is a bit much for my taste but I did somewhat enjoy book 1. This book started off with Cinderella vibes. I found it hard to get past the fact that on pg 18 she puts on her riding boots and then goes out towards the stables and ends up being teleported to the other world and all of a sudden she has sneakers on. I found it hard to get past that disconnect. If you’re into filling all holes, spanking, that honestly seems like it borders on abuse, and submissive females, then the story is for you as well as the entire series. Again, it was a little bit hard to swallow for my taste. I prefer strong minded heroines And honorable heroes. Not just this book, but the series can have a little bit of morally gray material. Not terrible books. But I wouldn’t say worth five stars.

Wow, this was an absolute amazing book to read this book, the story was a bit like Cinderella and the characters were absolutely sensational. This story was about Ella and Nykor, to lay down and wake up in a totally different place. When Nykor turn up in his Cave he wasn't happy because she was his mate, he didn't want a mate after loosing his first mate. It was one hot book with him spanking her to making her nearly come. I loved reading this book.

I adored this book. I really loved the elements of the book that came as a retelling of Cinderella/Snow white at its beginning but then turns into something so much more. Ella is such an interesting character who is very sheltered and unsure of herself, but grows to become a sassy strong woman. Nykor's back story was sad but understandable. The two struggle to figure out how to move forward and cope with their issues and situation. The action, spice, suspense and resurfacing of certain characters from the last book were all amazingly done and the plot turns this series into a page turner that I devoured pretty quickly. Can't wait for more of this series

Ice King is the second book in the Dragonborne Kings series. It can be read as a standalone as I haven’t read the first book in the series and I had no problem following the story.

This book is much different to my usual reads and felt weird but so good at same time. I was totally engrossed from the very first page to the very last, I couldn’t put it down! I loved the characters and the story build up, with a vibe of Cinderella, and a touch of mild BDSM, always a joy! I enjoyed the twists and turns and can wait to read further instalments in this series.

I'm loving this series and I'm excited to read more of it. I struggled to get into this one, but once I was hooked I couldn't put it down. Nykor captured my attention from the beginning, but I struggled more with Ella. I have a thing for the antihero bullies when it comes to my dark romances and Nykor fit that perfectly. What I'm not used to, especially when it comes to Ms. Fields, is a weaker female. Ella just never grew into herself and I struggled with that. However, the plot, action, heat, and chemistry between the characters carried me through to the end and I ended up really enjoying it.

So happy to see a second book written with the dragons. This one did not disappoint. Character were both strong having being dealt a bad deal in earlier times. But it is clear that they are meant to be together. Destiny will not allow anything else. These two are loyal, strong willed and most of all passionate for each other. The question becomes, can either of them let go of they past hurts to forge a life together and save the kingdom. Very good.

Where the h@ll was she?

This is a hot icy cold romance. With Ella’s dad out on the road, she is treated as a slave to her stepmother and stepsisters. They attack her and destroy anything she has. One minute she was drinking stolen champagne while walking to her favorite place, the stables and the next minute she is in the snow. Ella has slipped through a rift. Nykor gave up his crown to save his people from the Dark king. You must read this book for the HEA. There are some triggers so be sure before you read. I recommend this book.

The fairy tail references did make sense. Ella ends up in a new frozen land and is rescued by none other than the dragon King himself. He knows she is his mate and resists it until the fate of his world hinges on it. He does delight in disciplining Ella. These two are hot, hot, hot together. He just needs to lighten up. Ella is so much more than his mate and the evil forces in this new world know it and try to capture her for themselves. Great Read.

At first I was unsure because it started out like a typical Cinderella with the evil stepmother and the evil stepsisters. But it quickly took a turn for the much much better. Ella will drinking and going out to visit the horses falls into another Realm. Nykor saved her from freezing to death or being killed by evil creatures. But the chemistry was undeniable. Yet Nykor refused to give in. It only took the fourth time of having to save her life for him to finally give in to what fate wanted.

Wow! What a fantastic book. This is a Cinderella retelling with a wicked twist. This is Ella and Nykor’s story. A dragon and his human mate. I loved the push/pull between them along with their undeniable chemistry. They could cause your kindle to smoke😜. Will Nykor continue to be a prisoner of his past? Nothing is more fun to read then dragon shifter romances. Add in Sara Fields' rough spicy scenes and lots of her trademark spankings, and you have a pretty great novel. Ella and Nykor have chemistry for days! A fairy tale retelling that's definitely for grownups, this one is so very much worth the one click.

I thought this was sort of a Cinderella story, what with the cruel stepmother and stepsisters but that was a tale from another realm.

We have our dragon, the MMC, who was stubborn as he can be. We also have an FMC who keeps getting herself kidnapped. If it weren't for some kind friends this two wouldn't have their hea. Thankfully, he accepted his fate and mated his queen.

This felt like a different Cinderella spinoff to me but I enjoyed it. You have the cruel/evil step mom, the mean step sisters, the main daughter reduced to a maid in her own home and yet she is whisked away to another world on her birthday where she meets a real dragon! Well a dragon shifter. The book is full of drama, suspense, fighting, adventure and romance. Was a fantastic read.

This book was a page turner. I could not stop reading to the end. Honestly, this book had me in all kinds of different directions. I am now wondering if there is going to be a second book because I honestly feel like this story is not over. There are so many unanswered questions.
