Biography of Al Bartz, renowned racing engines builder. Born in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1938. At a very early age he showed a keen appetite for dismantling anything mechanical to find out how it was made and how he could improve it. After an apprenticeship at Hilborn Injection, he worked for famed engine builder" TRACO." Al opened his own racing engine shop in Van Nuys, California in 1966. He was very innovative, always exploring new concepts with the dry sump and injection systems. Al Bartz built some of the best racing engines to power Formula 5000, NASCAR, INDY cars, CanAm, TransAm. These were driven by the best drivers in the world. Al Bartz died in 1981, he was 43 years old. Strongly recommended. A hard-to-find book not generally available in the conventional book trade.

I have the first edition hardcover of Al Bartz Engine Man as told by Phil Henny and compiled in this fascinating little hardcover filled with color pictures as well as black and white and period photography.Although it is somewhat short and I don't like that it has some reproduced articles towards the end,but other than the repo articles the book is a must for anyone who has gears for blood. Al Bartz, A Man who sadly passed too soon at the age of 41, underrated yet a superhuman who made the coolest engines this side Of Traco Engineering. The book talks about His work for Traco,For Can-Am,Trans-Am, F5000 and so forth.If you are interested in the Golden age of Motorsports such as the 60s-70s this is a necessary book for your library.
