It's mating season. Zondra Daahn has hit her quickening with both feet and no warning. She's on the prowl for a male to sate her, and Evan Duncan is just the overbearing, alpha male she needs.
There are just a few little problems...

CLOSE ENOUGH TO HUMAN
Miri Johns is a negotiator for the Xxan. When it all blows up, she finds herself captured by humans, an illegal crossbred experiment used as a weapon against them. The best she can hope for is that they'll kill her without torturing her too badly first.
Aleeks Daahn is a natural-born crossbreed, raised on Earth. With Miri at the height of fertility, Aleeks may not be able to control the Xxan need to Dominate and claim his young prisoner. Nor does he want to control it. Are two crossbred Xxanians close enough to human to survive in the human world?

The first story is between Zondra, a Half Xxan, half human. When she enters her quickening- a sexual maturity marked by a burning that can only be sated by a sexual frenzy by a dominant male, she goes to a human bar to seek out Dominant Male of her choice. She can scent dominance by using tongue scenting. When she finds Evan, her choice is made and the biological imperative begins. I enjoyed this story. It's scifi, world building, and unabashedly sexual. Evan is so hot! Love him.
The second and third story is about Aleek, Zondra's brother, also a dominant cross breed. On a mission to Xxania Uuaath, the Xxan home world, he and his fellow soldiers walk into a trap. There he finds Miri, another crossbreed that was raised by the Xxan to be a sacrificial lamb. Raised in a lab and never cared for, she is perplexed by the caring behavior she receives from Aleek. He eases her into the most beautiful traditions of his family, eventually taking her home to the family nest-a place where the entire family lives, yet having they're own space.
At the center of the nest is a beautiful room, with a bathing pool and moss for grass. It's spiritual center of the house, and it has great effect on the spiritual center of those that spend time there. It brings Miri a peace she's never known. In both stories, Zondra and Aleek must bring home new mates into the nest, where their gran-seir or grandfather, a full blooded Xxan may reject or accept the new additions.
I really loved that the Xxan treasure women above all. They are dominant, but incredibly protective and caring, almost to the point of pampering. Xxan's mate for life with an unbreakable bond.
I would have given the book 3.5 stars, but there's some seriously hot cum play, or the scifi version of it. And I love me some cum play. :)
The writing is well paced and the world building is well done. The author is very creative, not just in the Xxan terms and such. But in the traditions, physical characteristics and sexual practices. Xxan men have two cocks, one that releases a powerful aphrodisiac. Female Xxan also release a powerful pheromone of their own. There's even some science in the book.
Daahn Rising is two shorter novellas put together. It sets up Ms. Lyons' alien world, where alien men are dominant in the bedroom and fiercely protective of their mates.
In these two stories: Mating Season and Close Enough to Human, we get to see more Xxan families who had set out to conquer the Earth. In Mating Season a female Xxan goes into mating frenzy but doesn't understand all the choices this will make. Luckily for her she finds the right man! In Close Enough to Human, an alpha mix-breed will set out to protect the female mix-breed who's been treated horribly and trained as an assassin.
I love the forays into Ms. Lyons' world. The characters are filled with deep needs for passion but also for love and protection. They have a strong tie to family and the women are just as fierce and strong.
I read her books out of order and enjoyed them but the names can be confusing when you see very similar names. Overall... a must for fans of the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre!
I read a lot of reviews of too much sex but there is a lot but I think the base stories are there and it works. These aren’t novels. They are quick but I do think there is enough story to get the point across along w the sex. It works.
