Ugh this book...I should've just unhauled it. I've gone into books in the past with extremely low expectations in genres that I don't like and ended up with 5* so I do believe that some books can be surprising - this book was not one of them. I've since found out that this is actually three books in one and looking at the covers of the other books if I'd have seen them before reading this book I definitely would've unhauled.
However, I will say the cover perfectly matches the story. You know exactly what you're going to get from this cover. The three books are revolving around three sisters each going through the same story (their father's heart attack) and then finding love from this. These books are rough. I get the idea of the three sisters falling in love (even though this is extremely unlikely) however I do not get the whole idea of them getting MARRIED within a few weeks of even meeting these guys?!
I really did not enjoy this book, each of the sisters is such a strong character on their own, they each have their own lives and ambitions however as soon as their chosen guy comes along they throw it all away (literally, one of them gives up their career in a really high position just to move back home for a guy because god forbid he should give up his career). I get that this is supposed to be like fluffy housewife romance where everything turns out great and there's love at first sight etc. etc. but for me this just did not work.
On top of the extremely unrealistic storylines of each of the three sisters we also have the other idea of plot - the father's heart attack. You first read about it in the first book but don't worry just in case you missed it you get to reread about it through the eyes of the remaining two sisters. I'm sure when this was three separate books this wasn't a problem but reading them back to back just didn't work because the first third of the book was just a rehash of the heart attack. However - there were subtle changes, I think the author wrote these books a few years apart and it shows. The story slightly changes with each sister and things happen and there is speech that didn't happen in the other books. If you're going to repeat a story at least do the SAME story rather than adding in lines and subtle plot things that didn't happen. Obviously this isn't a big thing but to me it just got more annoying and by the time I got to the third book I was just bored.
Shockingly I would not recommend this book, the storyline is completely unrealistic, reading about the heart attack once was a struggle but three times just made me want to cry. None of the stories were interesting and I didn't like how each of the sisters lost their independency just because they met a guy. Women can keep their careers and get married, this is a thing.
I’m a big fan of this author normally but not this book.I though it was very far fetched and totally unrealistic the story of the first sister was totally unbelievable.I enjoyed the other two sister story better I only kept reading as I like when Debbie writes about the other side (dads dream). If you liked this book try Rose Harbor Series it was excellent.
I usually enjoy Debbie Macomber’s books, but this one had me rolling my eyes way too much. Call me a cynic, but I just can’t believe how fast the couples in this book fall in love. Then they fight. Then they are in love. Then they fight again. Then they are in love. And in the end, everyone lives happily ever after. It just was all just too unrealistic.
I only liked norah..so 3 stars for her and rowdy..I love debbies romances turns my stomach all over..steffie was ok..There were many parts unrealistic..but yet that's romance..hey. hey..I hated it at first but liked it slowly..
Lesson learnt: When a book is reviewed with high ratings, it's always worth checking to see how many people have reviewed it. What a ridiculous book, with the most plasticky set of characters!
This book is a 3 in 1, each section(book) is about a different sister. They all 3 come home when their father has a near fatal heart attack and find the love of their lives. Their father has a near death experience and his deceased wife tells him to go back and tells them exactly who they will marry and all about their children. The stories are these couples getting together just as they are told they will.
Valerie- This book was OK; I wasn't a huge fan of it or the main characters. It was just felt more like a business merger than a romance between the 2 characters. I liked Colby but I never really warmed to Valerie very much.
Stephanie- This story was somewhat better than Valerie's since the characters at least had some history, but it still didn't seem like much of a romance. Most of the time it seemed like the characters had very little emotion other than distrust and a dislike of each other. Both characters were good characters just the interaction was weird.
Norah- I enjoyed Norah and she was my favorite of the sisters. Her romance actually unfolded like a romance where they somewhat got to know each other before they just instantly fell in love. The interaction between her and Rowley were fun and interesting so more enjoyable a read.
I've read several books by this author, and liked them, but this one was very disappointing! It felt like following a cheap telenovela, with overdramatic characters who jumped between extreme moods and feelings, to the point of parodying themselves..
All three stories were too similar, with the three sisters, and their love interests being in many ways identical, so it seemed unnecessary to have three stories at all, when one would have been enough.
Had this been my first Debbie Macomber book, I probably wouldn't bother reading anything else by her, which would be a shame as she has written many, many books, which are far better than this one!
I felt like one star would have been too harsh, whereas two seems too generous.. Still, I'm going with two, thanks to all her better books..
Three stories in one book following the Bloomfield sisters- Valerie, Stephanie and Norah. I just fancied an old fashioned romance - like a good Hallmark movie and I think Debbie Macomber does this well. All the stories are linked as they are about the same family, written in same time period in the same place. Each story follows one sister and surprise surprise they find true love. But, each story is well written , the characters are wholesome and i sped through it. It just what I needed.
I told myself I would read 2 chapters a day but it was such an addictive story line that I actually ended up reading 4 or 5 a day. 3 stories about 3 sisters that are all intertwined into 1 awesomely addictive read.
I love this book. first, one I have read from Debbie Macomber and it won't be the last, I have read this book so many time I have lost count. would highly recommend it
Orchard Valley Weddings is an omnibus of Debbie Macomber’s three Orchard Valley books: Valerie, Stephanie and Norah. Each of the stories is linked, but can be read independently. Valerie Bloomfield is the eldest daughter of David and Grace Bloomfield, of Orchard Valley. David is a widower, Grace having passed on some four years ago, and he doesn’t see much to live for. When he ends up in hospital with a heart attack, his daughters gather from near and far. Valerie has a successful career with an IT company in Texas, and work for a dynamic entrepreneur, Rowdy Cassidy. She has even thought she might marry him one day. But when she sees her father, he insists she will marry his heart surgeon, Colby Winston. Neither Valerie not Colby is amused by or agreeable to this idea. Sure, they are attracted to each other, but neither is what the other had in mind for a life partner. This romance has both humour and heartache. A sweet Macomber story. Stephanie Bloomfield is David and Grace Bloomfield’s second daughter. Stephanie ran away to Italy for 4 years after Charles Tomaselli, the local newspaper editor, left her hurt and embarrassed. By the time she finally makes it back to Orchard Valley, most of the drama of her father’s hospital admission is over, and he’s ready to come home. But he’s insisting he spoke to his wife, 4 years dead, when he was near death himself, and she told him he had much to live for: twelve grandchildren, in fact. Stephanie’s reaction to a recent newspaper article about her father has her once again embarrassing herself with Charles, when she had hoped to impress him with her poise and experience after her years away. And her father is predicting she will marry Charles! But every time they see each other, the sparks fly, and not only words are exchanged. Some heartache and plenty of humour in this romance: Charles eventual marriage proposal had me laughing out loud. A fun Macomber romance. Norah Bloomfield is the youngest daughter of David and Grace Bloomfield. Norah works as a nurse at the Orchard Valley Hospital and lives in the family home with her widowed father. When Rowdy Cassidy crashes his plane on the way to stop her sister Valerie’s wedding, he ends up in Norah’s hospital. Though the demanding IT mogul soon turns the hospital routine upside down, Norah finds herself attracted to him. But he’s still in love with Valerie, so why is he kissing Norah? She keeps having to turn down his proposals: first he wants her as his personal nurse in Houston; then he wants to marry her, but the whole thing is like a business proposal! Another delightful Orchard Valley tale, and the resolution of the Orchard Valley series.
I kind of loved norah and rowdy romance personally maybe cause I'm the youngest..hahaa But steffie and Charles was a love so romantic..He loved her so much but didn't say so 3 years back..ok..all those things..The things she used to do were lame..but they both matured..Fine then Valerie s part was hmm. .ok..I didn't like her much..Fine actually. But the main thing was it was a soft, comforting ,sweet, lovely, sweet, sunshiny book..cheers to her romance
This book has 3 small stories inside(Valerie,Stephanie,&Norah). It's about 3 sisters coming together again because their father has had a heart attack and may die. Thorough this they come closer together, find unexpected love/rekindled love, and reasons to live.
good for those who like reading a load of over the top and unrealistic romantic toot. several times I cringed inwardly at the mess each couple made of their 'relationship'. the only good thing about this book as it doesn't take a lot of brain power or time to read.
A bit repetitive. I assume the stories weren't originally bundled together so you needed to be reminded of the plot each time, but when you read all three stories at once it gets a bit boring.
