It wasn't like Hallmark had a card that read 'Thanks for destroying your bag with my spawn' so I had to come up with something else.Yes, I'm aware I just posted a whole paragraph but that one's really my favourite.
Excitement filled me. "The head! It's out!" My excitement fizzled when bloody water gushed out. Starting to feel woozy, I swallowed hard and my lip curled. "Is it meant to do that? My breathing became heavier. "I don't like that." I stepped back and away a little, my stomach rolling. "Nope. Babies are meant to be soft and fluffy. Teen's not having a demon baby." I held the wall for support, panting. "I'm in bad shape over here. You just keep doing what you're doing, Princess. I'll be right there." I doubled over, breathing deep and trying not to pass out.
When I first read Tattered Love I was blown away! I loved Scarlett so much where normally I have trouble relating to and liking female heroines. Many times they come across as snotty, whiny, bitchy, or just plain stupid. I was so overjoyed with Scarlett that I messaged Lola and told her how great that book and character was. When Conflicted Love was released I was super stoked knowing that I loved everything about the first book in the Needles Kiss series. I have to say this one did not live up to the last installment.
There was really no plot to this story. Teeny and Trip had a one night stand and Teeny ended up pregnant. Trip of course was a man whore who never slept with the same girl twice and wasn't interested in a relationship. I don't really know what Teeny's problem was other then she was a major bitch. She had a crap car, crap apartment, crap job, and she still didn't want Trip to know about or help with the baby.
The whole story was basically Teeny going through her pregnancy and whining. Trip tried to be helpful and Teeny would treat him badly. I really hated Teeny to the point that I was hoping that she would die during childbirth and Trip, Mace, and Scarlett could raise the baby. I know it's horrible of me but I couldn't help myself.
Now that you know I absolutely hated Teeny I can tell you what I did like about this story. Even though Trip was a man whore he really grew and took responsibility for Teeny and the baby. He in no way deserved how she treated him and I would have knocked her in the head. I say give Trip a purple heart for his troubles!
As always Mace and Scar were a joy to read about and I loved Scar's sassy attitude. I do have to say I really liked the relationship between Teeny and Scarlett. It reminds me of friends I have. People that you have been friends with for so long and are so close too that you can say anything. It was sweet and funny to see them interact.
After reading this I really did enjoy it. Not as much as Tattered love but I would definitely buy another book from Lola Stark. Her sense of humor alone is worth the read. Teeny is her vision and even though she wasn't my favorite character I respect what this writer created even if it did annoy me a little bit. If you liked the first book you really should give this book a try. I'm a hard customer to please when it comes to female leads. I know that I have been in the minority before but this is just how I felt and I hate that I didn't love this book. I will definnitely be on the lookout in the future for more books from Lola. She's a fantastic writer and I can't wait to see what she will come up with next.
