WARNING: This book is not recommended for people with heart conditions, those taking anti-anxiety medications, or people easily repulsed by ghastly levels of (purely necessary) violence and mayhem. Read at your own risk. The author takes no responsibility for nightmares, mental anxieties or phobias resulting from this book. For everyone else, buckle-up because: THOUSANDS are dying inside. HIDDEN under the burning Arizona desert is the grandest ‘Science-City’ ever created, and all hell is breaking loose. Using stolen genetic research, terrorists are unleashing a devastating attack on the civilian scientists, on their families, on their children. No one is spared. BARELY one hundred and fifty souls survive the first seven minutes. Injured and wounded, limping or carried, they are frantically battling from minute to minute for their very lives. The odds are stacked against them, but one thing is in their favor. CAPTAIN Alexander Coleman is just minutes away, and he’s not coming alone. He commands a full platoon of Special Forces Marines. His estranged wife, Vanessa, and eight year old son, David, might still be alive in the besieged underground complex. The chance they both survived is slim, but that’s more than enough. PURE HORROR awaits him, and a frantic race to control the most devastating weapons of mass-destruction ever created: Living weapons. BUT ABOVE ALL, more important than anything else, Captain Alexander Coleman must save his family.

WOW...Non-stop, pulse-pounding, hold-on-to-your-seat ACTION from beginning to end! A military special-ops team, sent as escorts for a group of weapons inspectors, enter a secluded genetics research facility out in the Arizona desert. Little did they realize as they entered, that many would not make it back out alive! A new bioweapon has been unleashed on the underground facility, as well as a group of terrorists trying to gain control of it. Unfortunately this new weapon is alive and hungry! It is up to the team of marines to take down the terrorists and save as many lives as they can; while at the same time, trying to save their own. If I had to compare, I would say this is a cross between Area 7 by Matthew Reilly and Beneath the Dark Ice by Greig Beck. Very highly recommended for any action/adventure enthusiast!
I hope I don't piss off anyone by using one author's name in another's review ... but that's what got me here in the first place. I love Matthew Reilly's books, and Shane Brown's came up on Amazon's search because someone else had named the similarity in their review(s).
This story was FANTASTIC. I suppose that's more of a rating than review. Enh.
To the next guy looking for Reilly-style stories: Stop here, Bud. You found one.
It is not every day that a new author can go head to head with Matt Reilly. But darn if Shane Brown didn't do it. As an action junkie I took to this book as a duck takes to water. Tons of non-stop action, cool monsters, an isolated setting, and a relentless INTENSE pace to the story. Never a dull point where you can sit back and mellow out.
I have also read another book by Shane and I enjoyed that one as well. If you like action books even a little bit give this guy a try. Years later you can say: Hey, I read his first book.....!
Dear eight pound, six ounce newborn baby Jesus....this was freaking insanity! I liked this book, but I feel a little nauseous too, like I just got off a roller coaster. Not sure I can handle another Shane Brown read for awhile.
In my usual organized way of doing things, read "Plaza", the second book written by this author first and liked it so well I immediately started this, his first book. Didn't think I could possibly be as impressed by the author's first book as much as I was by Plaza, but expected it to be good.
It was better than good, if anything even better than Plaza, and I was amazed by that. Plaza had elements (Mayan ruins in the jungle, archaelogy) which I am particularly drawn to and sometimes the strictly military can be a little overdone for me. This was strictly military/terrorism and bio-warfare development laboratories with the usual collection of characters, terrorists, Marine strike force group and the scientists.
The author handled the plotline and characters admirably and managed to cleverly sidestep many of the possible pitfalls so many authors seem to fall prey to, with the various relationships. His female characters were particularly well done and well developed, civilians ... none of the tough military types ... but smart, intuitive and tough-minded individuals that operated admirably under extreme pressure.
This is one author that has made it to my must-buy-everything as it is published list with just two books ... and that doesn't happen very often with me.
I read and reviewed PLAZA, another novel by author Shane Brow. As a result of that review, he sent me FAST to read. When I started FAST, I was immediately worried. It appeared to be a military/action/bang-bang book, my least favorite type of book. A few pages in, everything changed. Mr. Brown knows his science and boy it shows. An isolated bio-sphere doing complex plant experiments that can potentionally change the fate of mankind comes under attack by terrorists as a Marine squad simultaneously descends on the bio-sphere to check for weapons of mass destruction. The concept of bioterrorism is fascinating and very real. The pace of the book is amazing and yes, page-turning. It is action packed and violent, but necessary to increase the terror level. The reader knows that the horror in the bio-sphere is only a sampling of the horror the terrorists plan to unleash on the rest of the world. I loved this book, just as I loved PLAZA. I think the author’s style is flawless and his choice of subject matter timely and intelligent. I would highly recommend the book. Thanks, Mr. Brown, and keep writing!
This is my second and full review seeing that I finally finished it.the first time I was not in the mood For that type of book no fault of the authors. let's just say I'm glad I went back to it,What got me reading The book in the first place was the fact that I am really into a lot of apocalyptic type stories and that's what it seemed like to me. And as I was reading it first I found it a little bit confusing to keep some of the characters together about who was who, And who these people were with with different organizations kind of mixed in at this facility. Definite kudos on the topic of the story it was a very different approach of I'm going to step out and call warfare. It is definitely not the norm of what we're used to seeing and reading about which Was a welcome relief. Yes there are very descriptive grotesque times in the book, but it fits. if you are one who cannot handle it don't read it,but you would be missing something! So even though it was not what I expected I was greatly surprised And I enjoyed it very much.
A futuristic, higher than classified, beyond top secret international research facility is the target of a heist for and field test of a radical, warfare altering, biological weapon. The good guys accidentally arrive right on time and the bad guys are so good it will take FAST to slow them down.
Even though this is the start of a series, it’s more of the same of what I have come to expect from this author, and that’s a good thing. Non-stop action from start to finish had me stopping occasionally to catch my breath. The author is so good at describing the location details that I felt like I was part of the action. The main characters, both good and bad, have depth and are unique and individually motivated. Well done all around, should be a fun series.
You will need a seatbelt for this ride. And a bulletproof shield. 600+ Kindle pages that kept me in knots. Just when I thought the tension would ease, it was ratcheted up to the next level. I read the author's second book first and thought it good but this first one is double the fun and terror. Way to go.
This was jam packed with non-stop action. If you are not squeamish this was a very enjoyable book. The whole premise was something I was not expecting but was pleasantly surprised. All the characters were not bad, but not great either. Not a whole lot of story but i came here for the action and that's what I got. Will read the next ones at a later date.
The book cover states it is "a military super-thriller" and this truly sums up FAST by Shane M Brown. Prepare to be grabbed by the seat of the pants and thrown on a literary roller coaster of action and more action.
This book is none stop action. The author has done a great job of starting on page one and going full bore until the very end of the book. I was literally exhausted when I finish this book. The author's storytelling style kept me glue to the pages. He developed an outstanding tale, especially for all you action lovers.
Shane M Brown put together a cast of characters that were both heroic and realistic. It was easy to identify with them and follow their storyline.
I really enjoyed Fast by Shane M Brown and recommend it to all readers, except the faint of heart.
When this novel started, I thought it was action for action's sake. A marine unit dropped into a complex and fighting with hostile commandos and unknown creatures. Little did I know that the author had a plan. After a few pages, everything started to make sense and the explanation was well thought of. It is an action novel in the Matthew Reilly-Jeremy Robinson mold. An adrenaline push worthy of a 200 million dollars Hollywood blockbuster. I predict that we'll hear good things from Shane M. Brown.
A well written but too gory for me story. The characters are action heros but I found it too hard to relate to them. Perhaps because every moment was action packed and other than heroic the characters lacked personality. Because of all the death and terror I found it hard to relate. For those that want constant action and scary story-- this is a must read. For the cowards like me. Read something a bit less FAST!
Reminds me of Matthew Reilly and the Scarecrow series. Pace is very fast; good and exciting action sequences. Overall, the plot was intriguing and came across as unique. My only negatives are that there is a bit too much retelling from the perspective of multiple characters, and the escapes (especially near the end) and just over-the-top unbelievable.
This is a fast action book that does not slow down until very last pages. If you are into massive amounts of action this is it. Don't expect a big twist as the characters are pretty much black and white.
Loads of fun and easy to get hooked into. I think Shane Brown will be one of my 'go to' authors when I just want to binge-read something tasty. I'm a bit of a sucker for sci-fi that doesn't take itself 'too' seriously.
This is one of those books that you don't want to put down. I can't believe this book is not more popular. I will be reading more from Shane M. Brown in the near future.

Very fast paced action adventure. Day of the Triffids meets Resident Evil. Pleasing to see the good guys in realistic punchups and coming away with more than a cut lip.
