The content of the book is great. The publisher say it’s around N3, but I believe solid N4 learners should still be able to understand it (grammar and vocabulary wise). I didn’t give five starts because it has Furigana for ALL Kanji (even for simple ones as 人、何). I understand that it is there for level 0-2 but at the 3/4 book, I would expect that someone who understands it should be also able to read some basic Kanji.
This is a great language learning tool, but this is by far the worst volume I've read in this series. The 4th story was the best, but it was so-so, nit totally forgettable, but the real-life people that were talked about didn't receive equal attention and should've been expounded upon more. The last third of the story was forgettable at best, mediocre at worst.
The 1st story was a drag, the last story was an even bigger drag. The last one was incredibly disappointing since I love Akutagawa's work, but not either if those stories. But I did finish both, unlike the 2nd & 3rd stories. Those 2 were just awful. 2 raging dumpster fire chock-full of hot garbage. I ended up just skimming them for new vocabulary after quitting mid way through.
Do I recommend it? Yes, for the vocabulary, I loved all the over volumes and think this one is just a near complete miss for me. The 1 singular star I gave goes entirely to story 4.
