When she was sixteen, Sydney Chase gave up a normal life to move to L.A. to pursue a career in music. Now as a multi-platinum, Grammy winning, recording artist, she really couldn’t want anything more out of life. Well, except for her best friend, Ryder Thompson. They’ve been friends since they were kids, and Ryder has always been the constant in Syd’s life – at least until the night she thought they might be turning into more than friends . . . or maybe not. And now they aren’t even speaking. Sydney would give anything just to have her friend back, even if all they’ll ever be is friends.
Ryder Thompson has been in love with Sydney Chase since he was thirteen, but she never saw him as more than a friend. Then one night, he took a chance and kissed her. Talk about an epic fail. But even though he tries to stay away, he knows deep down that even if she never loves him like he wishes she would, he needs Sydney in his life.
Neither wants to admit how they feel, since rejection is never fun, but if they just tell each other the truth, they might get everything they’ve always wanted.
Only With You is a novel about friendship, love and the mistakes we make to ultimately be with the one we love.

Monica Alexander is a writer of contemporary, new adult, and young adult fiction. In 2011, she turned her lifelong love of reading and books into a career when she published her first novel, “Just Watch the Fireworks”. When she's not reading and writing, you can find her at the beach, in the mountains, or hiking through a city, soaking all the beauty of the world around her and turning her experiences into inspiration for her next book.
Yes, I gave my own book five stars, because what author in their right mind wouldn't? In all seriousness, though, I love how this book turned out. It was better than I expected when I got the idea for what it would be like for a pop star to date a normal guy while at a Taylor Swift concert almost two years ago. It was so much fun to write for a lot of reasons, and the characters and their love story turned out better than I could have hoped. Ryder slowly became one of my favorite guy characters that I've written - probably because he was the guy I wanted to date in college. Of course, I mostly dated Jake's, but that's beside the point. I love this book. And I hope you will too :)
First off, I don't really write reviews. I read so many books that I get overwhelmed with the amount of reviews I would have to write. Also, most of the time I will like a book but not enough to really have any defining words for how I felt about it. However, I have become such a fan of Monica Alexander's that I feel compelled to write this review.
I throughly enjoyed this book. I bought it yesterday evening and stayed up until 3am, so I could finish it. I've read a lot of book reviews before, so I know that the main thing I liked about this book is the main thing most people may not. POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD - I loved that there wasn't this big climatic break-up and then some kind of serendipitous reunion. The relationship felt more real and identifiable that way. It felt like the majority of relationships that exist in the real world. There are disagreements and problems to overcome, but they don't always result in this big huge break-up. I liked that these were two characters who obviously loved each other and really treated each other with respect. Respect is something that I feel like is lacking in a lot of relationships that are represented in YA/NA novels nowadays. I know it may not always make for the most dramatic read, but I don't feel shortchanged by this book at all. The beginning was a little frustrating to watch these two characters tripping over themselves for so long instead of just talking it out. However, as an extremely stubborn person I know how easy it is to to put yourself in a situation that lasts months when it could have been resolved in minutes.
Overall, just like all of Monica's books, this books was definitely worth the time and money. Even if one of the main characters is star you can still identify with a relationship that is just trying to figure out how to make itself work. My only problem with Monica is that I need more books of hers to read. ;)
I really really loved this book! It's such a sweet story about 2 friends finally coming together after so much misunderstanding and circumstances beyond their control. I love the fact that they had the chance to sow their wild oats so to speak before they came together. A lot of times when you grow up with someone and form a relationship early on, you wonder if the grass is greener on the other side. But since they've both gotten that out of their system, they are 100% positive that they only want to be with each other.
Sydney and Ryder handle things life throws at them with maturity even though there's lots of things causing them to doubt their ability to be together. I really enjoyed this book and Ms. Alexander is in my top 5 authors of all time.
I absolutely loved this book. I bought it this morning and couldn't put it down. i have read numerous books by Monica and i have enjoyed them all but i think this is my favourite one. Sydney and Ryder area perfect couple and i like that they were best friends first which made it true to life. All the secondary characters fit in well with the story too. I can't wait for more from Monica Alexander. :) :)
4 1/2 stars! You really can't go wrong with Monica Alexander ( I think I always say that!), but you seriously can't! I loved Sydney and Ryder's relationship and how after they finally got together the story focused on them and didn't have too many outside conflicts. It was a beautiful story of friendship to love, which is one my favorite book themes!
Really enjoyed this one! It was so nice to see NA romance with mature acting 20 year olds. They still had obstacles and misunderstandings but, after the initial major misunderstanding before they got together, they really communicated and didn't act stupid.
There were a couple of inconsistencies -such as Ryder saying he never had a girlfriend but then saying he dated someone for 2 months and calling her his girlfriend and also Ryder saying he only did the casual random hook up a couple of time before deciding it wasn't for him but then later saying how many handjobs and women he slept with was a good amount and even not knowing the name of a girl he slept with right before getting together with Sydney to name a few- doesn't quite add up but it's just a little annoying...not enough to take away from enjoying the book.
This is disappointing. This is one example of a book for light reading that feels like you waste time when reading it. The first few pages is promising then it goes downhill when the first dilemma is solved and the romance starts. Sydney and Ryder together is cute though. The pacing is fast but also really slow? "Forcing Gravity" and "Gravity Happens" is way better, which Monica Alexander also wrote.
Where friendship abounds and one of them falls head over heels in love, but of course, if they say anything and the other ones doesn't feel the same, then the friendship could be ruined.
On the other hand, if they didn't say anything, what a waste.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was hard to put my kindle down so I could actively function as a human being. There were a few grammatical errors that irritated me, but then that's me being far too picky. I wouldn't mind reading another book about Sydney and Ryder. They have more of a story to tell, I'm sure of it
