"Ally Asten created a volatile medical romance story...The unpredictable plot turned what could have been a simple romance into a conspiracy thriller." Stephanie Chapman, Reader's Favorite
When 26-year-old Elena Foster returns to North Point Hospital to work as an occupational therapist, she’s isn’t doing so to rekindle her forbidden affair with physical therapist Marco Rossi. Oh no. The last thing she wants is to get into even more trouble with the most influential family in the state.
Marco has always used casual sex as a way of coping with his father’s death. Bitter and angry from his last encounter with Elena a year and a half ago, he wants answers. What happened that night? What is she hiding?
What they don’t expect is to discover a secret that will do anything to remain hidden.
Elena Foster never expected to be North Point Hospital’s newest Occupational Therapist, not after her whirlwind romance with Marco Rossi threatened to be exposed. Still, returning to the hospital means she cannot escape Marco’s smoldering stare or the Rossi family’s influence over North Point’s non-fraternizing policy. Despite their unrequited love, Elena must tread carefully and avoid Marco.
Marco cannot understand why Elena Foster is hot for him one moment and then cold the next. She ended their steamy romance without an explanation, leaving him heartbroken and desperate for closure. Now, Elena emerges eighteen months later as the newest hire at North Point, but she is distant. Marco needs to know what she is hiding.
Elena and Marco quickly realize their forbidden relationship is nothing compared to the nefarious secret they unwittingly uncover—a secret that changes everything for the Rossi family and Elena.
“Blood and Water” by Ally Asten is the first book in the North Point series. This propulsive medical thriller is impossible to put down. With an intriguing mystery to solve and plenty of romance peppering the pages, readers will be heavily invested in the storyline that is rife with steamy love scenes and gripping suspense. The novel alternates between the main characters, Elena and Marco, weaving in and out of the past and present. This clever approach allows readers to collect little breadcrumbs of information until they unearth a shocking secret. Themes of love, revenge, and justice fill the pages of this all-encompassing read.
Elena and Marco have something special, red-hot chemistry that is palpable, and the author has illustrated it excellently. Stolen kisses and lustful encounters where they hid from prying eyes in the linen closet of the hospital were just a few of the ways they kept their insatiable attraction at bay. These scenes were described through flashbacks, which kept me wondering what had happened to extinguish the spark between the two. Did the hunky cardiologist have anything to do with it, or had Marco lived up to his reputation as a player?
Beyond the undeniable chemistry, I enjoyed the messy antics that ensued within the sterile walls of the hospital. Stairwell romances, blackmailing, lies, and secret alliances threatened to expose hospital staff. There was no shortage of scandalous scenes to capture readers’ attention, so if you enjoy shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor, you won’t want to miss this page-turner.
If you’re looking for a thrilling read that combines romance and medical drama, “Blood and Water” by Ally Asten is the book for you! And for readers who enjoy investing their time in a series, you can look forward to the second installment.
I really enjoyed this book and Elena and Marco’s story. It did take me a while to get into it at first, but by about half way through I couldn’t put it down. While I typically love reading from different perspectives, I found myself getting a bit confused about which person and time we were in each chapter with the frequent switching. I really enjoyed how all the characters came together and were interconnected and will definitely be reading the sequel!!
