There was a lot of cussing from our heroine, Carrie, on the very first pages but that was okay. I can deal with a heroine who is a bitch with a side of attitude. I mean that's loads better than a "too stupid to live" heroine.

But then BAM!!! - our hero's inner monologue and I quote: "I am kind of a nerd but not really, my family says the only thing that saves me from that distinction is my hot as fuck body and my matinee idol looks."

Oooookay. Really?

Then it got worst: "Whatever. I like learning. My brain holds more information than an encyclopedia, I listen to classical music, play piano like a pro and sing like an angel. Add my crazy as fuck golden bronze hair and jade green eyes and fuck, I'm hot if I do say so myself."

Could some that smart and gifted think like this?

I stopped right there and called it a day.

It was my third time to read this book and I still liked it. Though it's not one of Jordan Silver's best books. And I think my safety friends won't like this one but to those who like her books and are used to her writing style, you'll like this one.

The story was about Josh and Carrie, both 17.

Carrie moved to Sea Crest to live with her father. On her first day of school there, she met Josh. They wanted each other but they didn't want to be the first one to give in. They wanted the other to get jealous. Just to make each other go crazy.

Both of them had strong personalities and Carrie had abandonment and trust issues because of her mother who neglected her and she just raised herself. She didn't have a good childhood and because of that, I understand why she acted like that.

She was annoying at times. And she was a runner. And there were issues/ obstacles along the way. And I can say that this book has more issues than the usual books that Jordan silver write.

No epilogue yet but there's a second book about Matt, older brother of Josh.

Wow. I gave Jordan Silver one more shot because I have seen a few people say they enjoy her books and I figured the one awful book I read by her might have just been a bad one. Well, this one was also disturbing and as a romance, just so bad. The main reason is that the "hero" is abusive and controlling over the heroine. It's no fun seeing a messed up immature heroine being groomed to want to be with the abusive hero and take what he dishes out. He spanks and whips her and "disciplines" her against her will and basically forces her to constantly do what he wants until she just "decides" that's what she wants. This was no BDSM relationship where the sub and Dom consent to having this type of relationship, the heroine gave NO consent to this. Now she was annoying in her own right, she was immature, snobby and did not talk like the supposed smart teenager she was supposed to be. The hero kept thinking how "dominant" he was but really he only cared about himself and wanted the heroine to be exactly what he wanted her to be (and was willing to hit, manipulate and oh yeah almost choke her once to get his way). A real dominant alpha man cares most about his lady and her welfare and what she needs, he was a psycho abuser who only thought he was the shit.

This story disturbed me because it was supposed to be a young adult romance and instead I read about an abusive controlling asshole and a dysfunctional relationship where I just wanted her to get away from him and get some therapy.

This was a reread - I still found it a lot of fun and one of Jordan Silver’s better books. It’s still straight up ridiculous. Still atrocious writing. But there’s an actual plot and some really fun tropes. The first few chapters are super rough in the heroine’s POV - she has a filthy crass mouth - fbombs GALORE- (something I normally cannot tolerate at all from a FMC), which is pretty jarring and off-putting but it does get better as you get into the story. The hero is crazy possessive and domineering. I loved all the drama with the heroine completely shutting down and wasting away when the hero freezes her out (and the ensuing hero grovel 😈). There are great damsel in distress moments, as well. Loved the hero losing his mind over the heroine’s health and safety. It’s just a fun read. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Passion is one of those books that are really good at making you wary about reading books by independent authors

It required A LOT of editing before publication: basic punctuation, like the full stop, were severely lacking.

The story and writing style is so bad that I could not take this book seriously. Or read beyond page 10:

What the fuck ever, first of all who the fuck does he think is driving that piece of shit truck out there, not this bitch.

I’m kind of a nerd but not really, my family says the only thing that saves me from that distinction is my hot as fuck body and my matinee idol looks.

Whatever, I like learning. My brain holds more information than an encyclopedia, I listen to classical music, play piano like a pro and sing like an angel. Add my crazy as fuck golden bronze hair and jade green eyes and fuck, I’m hot if I do say so myself.

First chance I get I’m outta dis bitch, no doubt.

I saw those fuckers checking me out; damn straight I know I look fuck hot.

Day two in this raggedy ass bitch, and it’s raining a-fucking-gain.

I honestly believe that this book was written as a prank.

My first JS!

I finally popped my JS 🍒, and because Alexa read it to me, I was able to stomach the writing 🤣 (but even Alexa couldn’t disguise the grammar mistakes 😅).

Carrie (17) is new in town after moving with her father because her mother is a poor excuse of a maternal figure. She goes to school and isn’t really making any friends, until she connects with Vanessa, who happens to have a brother that Carrie has tension with 👀. Carrie has one of the worst potty mouths I have ever read, but Josh is all about testing and challenging her 😅.

Josh (17) comes from a wealthy family and has it all, looks, popularity, and girls too 🙄 (but not from his school, because he doesn’t wanna complicate his life even more). as soon as he meets Carrie, he knows that she’s going to be his, and he ain’t playing 💅. She might not understand it, other people might not understand it, but he doesn’t care 🤷🏻‍♀️.

She’s his end goal, so now she just needs to get on board 😅, even if he has to fight her strong will to convince her 😬.

Let the games begin 😈.

What I liked/loved:
—how OTT obsessed Josh is 😅. Yeah. He sometimes got on my nerves, but he was always all about her, so I was able to overlook some of the things he did 🫣

—the 🔥. Oh Lawd. This is SPIIIIIICY 🫠. Josh knows Carrie’s inexperienced, so he makes sure to introduce her to 🔥 things slowly ish (by slowly, I mean that he goes through the bases in order 🤣). For a 17-year-old, he sure knows what to do (😒😐), but it works out in Carrie’s favor 😅. Their first kiss happens at 12%, round the bases by 23% and full home runs at around 35% and on with lots of 🔥 before it 😅

—how in tuned to Carrie’s pleasure Josh is 🥵💦. I love me a man that enjoys eating cereal 😉

—how protective he is 🫶. Sigh ❤️. When Carrie’s health declines, he uses it as an excuse to not only make sure she eats properly, but make sure she doesn’t walk (because he carries her) 🥹. Who needs legs when Josh is around 🫠

—Carrie’s feistiness 😅. She fights Josh because she’s had to fend for herself most of her life ☹️. Her mom was maternal like she needed to be, so Carrie learned to take care of herself ❤️

— Josh’s family 🫶. I luuuurved them ❤️ especially his parents ❤️. I love that they called their kids out on their ish when they’re messing up 🤷🏻‍♀️.

—the grovel 😈. Look. Josh f’s up and he needs to make it up to Carrie 🤷🏻‍♀️. This is different in terms of the type of groveling that needs to happen because of what happens but I still appreciate it 👏🏻

—the comeuppance 😈. I love it when bad guys get what they deserve, and a bunch of them did 💅

—the OMD 😉. I love it… especially when the H sweats 🤣

—how JP he is 😈. MINEMINEMINE 💁🏻‍♀️

—owd and taking out the trash 💅. I’m not a fan of other women drama, I love that Josh takes care of this and puts Carrie first 👏🏻.

—the k’s 😅. There’s definitely a D/s dynamic here (with 17 year olds? 🤦🏻‍♀️)

—the dubcon ish 🔥especially because Carrie tries to fight what she wants 😉

—their HEA 🫶. They have no chill 🤣

What I didn’t like/wanted more of:
—I already mentioned the grammar 😅. Although Alexa read it to me, I could still tell that there were mistakes; mistakes were structure things

—when Josh was OTT (specifically the tree scene at about 47%), I was pissssssed! I am glad she ends up, leaving and ignores him, but I wouldn’t have minded it this went on for a lot than it did 💁🏻‍♀️

—the disciplining 😒. I wish Carrie would’ve pushed back more. Because Josh is so OTT JP, he doesn’t want her talking to anyone, yet she has to deal with his reputation 😑. Sigh. Luckily, the second half is better and makes up for the first half 🤣

—the lack of safety talk 😐. I don’t know if this is JS’s MO, but knowing he’s been SUCH a HUGE manwhore (as we find out through his POV and see his previous f buddy 🥴), I would’ve liked to know that either it’s been while for him (psssh. I don’t even know if I would’ve believed it 🙄) or his D isn’t dirty AF 😑

—the owd related to his past 😐. Although Josh is all about Carrie, I dislike that his gets mentioned so much 🙄. It made me feel 🥴, especially when we’re in his head 😒 because she’s so inexperienced/a v, the discrepancy in that part of their lives was extremely obvious 😐

— how jarring some of the chapters or stream of consciousness can be 😅. Sometimes, we would move from one POV to the other within the same scene with no mention of whose POV it was, other times, scenes would move on quickly. While I get that this isn’t a long book, I wish it was more seamless 😬

Overall, I liked it. Now I can move onto other books by her 😅🤣

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing
-mental health/depression/panic attack
-parental neglect recounted
-attempted SA recounted
-dubcon ish
-Violence/bloodshed/kidnapping
-OMD: the h tries to go on dates with others but it never happens. She goes to Greece early on and it angers the H because she met a nice guy there. There are other guys that want her
-OWD: the H’s ex fuck buddy shows up causing drama 😒. The H has a reputation
-dirty talk/spanking/punishment/belt/marking/biting/edging
-D/s vibes
-virgin h/manwhore ish H
-no condoms of safety talk 😐 no mention of his cleanliness or last time he was with a woman 😒
-HEA/no epilogue but the last chapters take place weeks later

Quickest DNF in my life LOL. Terrible writing, and I absolutely hate when authors think that cursing nonstop makes their characters "cool" or "badass". Like nah, it just makes you seem like you have a low IQ and can't think of any other words. I don't mind cursing usually, but 536 times in a 270 page book makes me wanna bash my head in. Here's the heroine in page 1 for example ⬇⬇⬇⬇

I hate this fucking town it sucks my ass, who the fuck wants to live in the damn rain twenty four seven, what the fuck? And what kind of name is Sea Crest for a place with no beach? I think the closest one is like an hour away. At least that’s what it said on Google earth. My skanky ass mom got herself a new dumber model and now she’s off jetting all the fuck over while I get stuck here with Gomer Pyle. My dad’s a real heel, no wonder Paula fucked him over, motherfucker was so laid back he was comatose. What the fuck ever, first of all who the fuck does he think is driving that piece of shit truck out there, not this bitch. And what’s up with that Derrick dude who supposedly fixed the heap, do they not have barbershops in this rink-y dink shit hole? What the fuck ever. First day of school and I’m driving this piece of shit, Michael had put his foot down what the fuck? I haven’t had parental control since the age of six, nobody told me what the fuck to do, he’ll learn that shit real quick though. None of these hayseed motherfuckers better not make fun of me, or I’ll go postal on a motherfucker, just saying

This writing and the stupidity of this heroine is so bad I just can't 😭 I got a few more pages in and all that she and the hero do is gloat about themselves and curse and I cringed so hard 😬

He was totally ignoring me, huh, what the fuck was up with that? Dudes were usually all over my shit in five minutes flat. What was this bitch trying to prove?

Like what the hell is this😬 cuz THAT'S the type of heroine I want to read about 🙄

I just can't.

Just can't.

4% in and all I can think is I can't. The writing was from back and forth from each POV, but it mostly consisted of thoughts and how great they were. I had to DNF when his thoughts told me they argued and he won. No showing, just a lot of 'whiny teenagers pissed at the world' thoughts. Also, I get teenagers swear. It's normal. However, the amount of swearing done just sounded like a bunch of rich kids trying to act gangsta. It just doesn't work.

Just... no.

I HATED THIS BOOK!!!! This book was so bad, so horrible. I Just couldn't finish it (I got to page 192 and I thought to myself "life is too short"). The simplistic writing, the grammatical errors, the typos.....I CAN'T!!!! This is one of the worst books I ever read. This book makes me not want to read books ever again. Its horrible! These characters are teenagers; 17 years old! Joshua is controlling and abusive...at 17 years old! He sounds like a freaking serial killer! And Carrie is an immature, foul mouthed spoiled brat. I hated her. She just sucks. WORST MOST IMMATURE HEROINE EVER!!!! This book is absolutely awful. Joshua totally controls Carrie. Breaking into her room? Telling her what to wear in front of her police chief father? And Carrie, A virgin that can successfully perform a 69 sexual position for the 1st time with success? GIRL BYE!!! Don't read this shit! This author can do better; hopefully. Reading this book was torture. Absolute torture!!!! Reading is supposed to take you away. To a fantasy, a happy place. This book took me to hell! Its absolutely awful, just awful. Save yourself and your brain cells! Its definitely going in the trash bin. HAPPY READING (but don't read this; you'll thank me later--TRUST ME).

Wow! Joshua Steele is... just, wow! He is another super Alpha, I can only imagine what he'll be like ten years from now. Sheesh!

I read a few reviewers that thought he was overboard with his possessiveness with Carissa at such a young age, but all I can say is "context", people. Think about it. Her mother's an abuser, physically, mentally, and verbally. She has neglected her daughter to the point of abandonment. Then her father, out of guilt because he hasn't been there for her in the past, puts no boundaries on her, and even though he doesn't intend for it to be this way, he has also abandoned her. She needs someone to care enough to tell her "no" to things that could potentially harm her. She needs boundaries to feel safe and loved. Enter Joshua.

Please, people. Remember that this is fiction. There must be some suspension of disbelief when reading fiction. That means that you have to have a willingness to suspend your critical faculties and believe the unbelievable. I am a thirty-nine year old mother of an almost twenty year old and a seventeen year old. I would freak out if some teenager tried to take over my child's life, too. BUT, I also am fully involved with my children, and neither of them would need a Joshua to do my parenting for me. PLUS, believing the unbelievable here, is that Joshua, though fallible in the story, truly loves Carrie, completely and thoroughly. He isn't selfish in his feelings for her. I'm not sure that there are any teenagers like that in the world. AGAIN, it is fiction. So let it go, haters!

Anyway... I absolutely wished that there had been someone like that when I was in high school. I needed a hero, but everyone was in their own little world. No one saw me. But, I met my man, and five weeks and two days later we had moved in together. It may have started as lust at first sight, but it was meant to be. So insta-love? Yeah, I believe it happens. He was my first, in every way, and he is still my heart and life even now, twenty-two years later and still going strong. So, in my mind, Joshua and Carissa could happen. Is it likely? Maybe not, but I loved it.

There was the typical high school angst in it. Joshua reacted to Carrie at on point, like the teenager he was: immature. He recognized what he did, and he did his best to make it up to her. I wasn't left with the opinion that they were more mature than their ages would permit. Joshua was a focused young man that knew what he wanted, starting with his college choice, his future career, and then when he met Carissa, she was put at the top of the list of his goals.

My god, were those sex scenes between them hot or what? I loved how Joshua took his time with her because of her innocence. She wasn't just another notch on his belt, and he treated her like a princess. But even before he took her, took her, the things he did with her? Lord, I think I swooned a bit. He was so... no words. No words. And then after he made her completely his, *wink-wink*, things just heated up even more. Dang, that girl can write a love scene.

So, bravo, Jordan. Once again, you've captured everything that makes a good story come alive for me. Keep up the good writing!

And as usual, with Jordan Silver, you always get the same thing:
NO CHEATING. Thank you very much!

DNF at 4% LMAO WHAT WAS THAT

Meet the heroine:

This shit is so fucking lame, what kind of horse town shit is this? The school is a one story building with one story buildings scattered around it. First chance I get I'm outta dis bitch, no doubt.I saw those fuckers checking me out; damn straight I know I look fuck hot. I have my strawberry blonde hair hanging down /.../ blablabla

Meet the hero:

I am kind of a nerd but not really, my family says the only thing that saves me from that distinction is my hot as fuck body and my matinee idol looks.
Whatever. I like learning. My brain holds more information than an encyclopedia, I listen to classical music, play piano like a pro and sing like an angel. Add my crazy as fuck golden bronze hair and jade green eyes and fuck, I'm hot if I do say so myself.

IS this book for real like what??

It goes on like this shifting POV in a FAST manner, like 100 words fast. I can barely follow what's happening. Chapter 1 She arrives at the RAINY town and says fuck this fuck that I hate it here. He knows there's a newcomer. Chapter 2 she arrives at her classroom at biology, he already sniffing her and she goes "omg he sniffed me" LIKE what how where what happened hold the horses. There's literally no narration, things are just happening non stop.
This feels like reading a bad quality Twilight fanfiction/recap.

This book was so filled with swearing and childish behavior it felt like was suck in a pre-teen hell hole.
Now I am more interested in his brothers story than this one.
They are both so full of themselves and childish (despite what they do in the bedroom here) that they are perfect for each other.
The drama was OTT and the secondary characters are way more interesting
For me this is a miss
1.5 stars but round up to 2 because it set the stage for the second book that sounds much more promising.

I loved this book!!
I will try not to give anything away but I can't promise anything!!!

The blurb hooked me, then i was put off by all the swearing at the beginning but still I didn't stop reading it and I am so glad I didn't. It developed into a great read. I cried a little but mostly I wanted to smack a few people.

The only reason I gave it a 4 is that some people in there needed to suffer longer, Joshua, her mother, Patti, Josie, Travis....everyone of them. THEY NEEDED TO SUFFER!!!

Other than that, I am definitely going to read this again, like right now!

Very high school

Very high school

I should have known after reading the description so perhaps this is more on me... I've read other J.S. books and was expecting more of the same. While the H was an Alpha and the sex was hot, the plot just didn't do it for me. I was bored :(

Despite a good storyline and interesting characters, this book had three very serious problems:

1. I have a mouth like a sailor, dropping the f bomb at least 15 times a day. So, when I say this book has way, way, way too much cursing, I'm not being prudish... I'm saying there's too much fucking cursing, okay!?!

It just really takes away from the story, the flow, the character's feelings, & basically everything enjoyable when every other sentence reads kinda like this... Fucking hell, this motherfucking motherfucker is fucking batshit crazy & I'm not the fucking bitch to fucking deal with that motherfucking crazy shit cuz I'll beat his goddamn ass in the fucking ground for fucking playing these fucking fucked up games with my motherfucking ass. It's way over the top! Its unnecessary! It's as distracting as it is detracting!

2. My other problem with this story is that it's set in high school. The alpha male reads like a late twenties- early thirties character. He is way too alpha & way too worldly in the game of dominance and submission to be in high school. ITS un-f'ing believable of any 17-year-old character, regardless of how "smart" he is or isn't. And, the parents are all a-okay with sleepovers and getting hitched before they even get through school, really?

Sure, it's a fantasy, but even fantasy needs to be at least lightly bathed in realism for it to be enjoyable.

3. Horrible grammar! Lots of editing mistakes that are nothing short of sloppy! Quotes are a jumbled mess.

It wasn't all bad~

Ignoring the age of the characters, the male MC was actually pretty hot. I loved the give and take game between the two MC's. If they were aged believably, it would've been a 4 star character representation.

I've read several books by this author and she always has excellent pacing with her stories. Her stories always move right along, never falling prey to boring lulls where you have to skip over fluff or suffer through long diatribes and monologues.

Alternating POV was great.

One of the best parts was the subtle humor that the author peppered in the story. {Note; these quotes also serve to illustrate the damn crazy amount of cursing}

"...fuck what you heard, head is head, there really isn't bad head unless the bitch tries to bite your shit off..."

"Let me ask you something before this shit goes any farther, are you certifiably insane or some shit I mean is there documentation somewhere that says you're a nut job?"

"This motherfucker is crazy, who the fuck.. Did I fall down the fucking rabbit hole or some shit.."

"Why don't you crack that shell and see motherfucker, you better wear a hazmat suit because a whole lotta shit just might explode all over you."

"This crazy fuck had chopped him across the Adam's apple with his hand."

Bottom line... There's a lot of bad to take with the good.

I had a number of issues with this book.

If you you like run-on sentences, lots of commas, unusual placement of semi-colons, and unusual word choices, then this is the book for you! These happen on EVERY page. This seems to be a theme with this author.

This book isn't about passion, it's about abusive obsession. Among teenagers. Who are 17 and act like they're 25 yr olds.

There's spanking that's cruel; an abusive bondage scene that was, frankly, shocking. And then there's this psychotic obsession that Josh has for Carrie. But they're co-dependent and she has her own issues, so even when she leaves him after the bondage scene she runs to the person who abuses her more: her mother.

These kids talk like low class trailer trash even though they're supposed to be academically smart and from wealthy families of some sort.

This kid claims that Carrie's his "mate" as if he's a caveman. It was utterly ridiculous.

There was nothing redeeming for me with this one.

Loved it! Fun new adult book with a young alpha male hero, who also doesn't hesitate to spank our leading lady when she needs it. This is the first book I've read where the hero, Josh, who is only 17 likes to punish the leading lady, Carissa, who is also 17, by spanking her. He is very controlling and possessive. I love that in my heroes! It was refreshing. I will definitely be reading more of Jordan Silver's books. Keep them coming!

I'll be honest I didn't get past the first few pages of this one. I don't mind cursing in the books I read but this was completely ridiculous. It was like a kid discovering curse words and no parental vision around. They've got to do it as much as possible. Very juvenile.

Jordan Silver is either an author that you love or you hate, if you like obsessive, possessive alpha men that will do what they want no matter what and a heroine that is most of the time feisty and not backward in saying how it is then she is perfect for you. Her books will probably never be considered safe or sweet or romantic in the normal sense of the word then give I would suggest that you give her books a wide birth. I happen to love her books, they are a great way to escape the world. Always entertaining with a criminal element to them they keep me engrossed from start to finish.

Joshua Steel is not your average teenager well advanced in his attitude to life and the human race. He and his siblings are loyal to each other to a fault, but the day that Carissa arrives is the day he meets his mate for life. He knows that she is the one for him but he has a few barriers to overcome in his quest to make her his. He hasn’t exactly been celibate for years and he knows that when he claims Carissa there are bound to be a few issues that arise but the hardest thing he has to overcome is Carissa herself she will fight him at every point, after a life of neglect and abuse from her mother can he get her to lower her defences and actually trust that he will always be there or will he give up when she needs him the most?

Carissa has been ignored by her mother her entire life that is unless she needs her to help her hook a new man in her life, after years of disastrous relationships Carissa finds herself in Sea Crest with her once upon a time stepfather. Carissa has no trust in the people in her life as no one has ever stayed around for long enough. Being part of the Steel family makes her feel whole for the first time in her life but after pushing Joshua away too many times and rebelling once too often she finds herself alone once again and singled out. Can she repair the damage between her and Joshua or will he push her away to the point where she will never recover?

It’s a tale of teenage angst and adult feelings that I found engrossing from the first page, in my opinion make your own mind up with this book as if id of read the reviews I wouldn’t have given it a chance, and Id of missed out on a very enjoyable engaging book.

If you're looking for the OTT jealous, possessive alpha males, this is one of those books. One of the youngest male characters that I've read in this category. He's definitely crazy and a jerk. I would rate this 5 stars for the OTT jealous type but only 3 for the overall story. The constant cursing and slang used by teenagers/high schoolers had me checking where they lived (seemed like a quiet little town) and if there were any MC clubs or motorcycles hiding behind bushes. Toning down all the unnecessary cursing would have made this book a better read.

there were multiple things about this book that I didn't like, one the h was obnoxious and even when the explanation why was given I still didn't like her. the H was controlling and abusive, and then the whole fact that they were only 17. just not a lot for me to like about this one.
