I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I picked it up at random while enduring a long wait for an appointment. By the time I left, I was over halfway though the book and hooked. Lucky for me the secretary said I could take the book with me.

I love Reba's character! She shows amazing strength in this book. A hard worker, devoted friend and neighbor in her community. She has a short-lived affair with wealthy Lucas and ends up pregnant. Months later he is back in town and it just so happens that Reba goes into premature labor at that time. Talk about rotten timing! Neither has time to focus on much of anything accept the pending survival of their child.

This novel is sweet at times and heart-wrenching at others. Anyone who has had a child stuck in a hospital can likely sympathize with these two. Although Lucas' behavior is all over the place and often frustrating. He even does one really stupid thing that had me wanting to jump into the book and kick his butt.

Otherwise I was pleased with this read. The emotional and character depth was surprising for a Silhouette novel. So for a sweet romance, with a very high emotional real-life crisis this is well done.

This was a heartwarming story! After reading this book, it made me know just how blessed I was when I carried both of my kids to term.

Reba’s water broke when she was only 6 and a half months. She was taking by ambulance to a hospital that had a good Neonatal unit. After Maggie was born she had to stay in NICU for weeks. The first few weeks she was too small for Reba, or Lucas to hold. This was an emotional time for both parents. They both loved this tiny precious child so much. The long hours spent at the hospital put a strain on their relationship, but in the end strengthened it. It was frustrating to both parents that only time could make their daughter stronger, and better. This story had a beautiful ending!

Lucas and Reba had a brief, sizzling affair before he left town and Reba found herself pregnant. She confronts him with the pregnancy when he comes into town again for business, but miscarries that same day. So imagine Lucas's surprise when he comes into town 3 months later and learns that Reba is still pregnant. And things go from shocking to terrifying when Reba goes into labor right in front of him - 3 months early. Now the couple are bonding over their very premature daughter, Maggie and learning how to be parents and how to be supportive of one another. But for this whole time, they learn to live in the moment...but eventually they'll have to start thinking of the future and whether it will be together or not.

This was a very intense read. Very stressful, not very fluffy and almost like a lifetime movie with the emotional ups and downs. This isn't really my kind of story - I'll say that right off - because the characters aren't at their best, they're snippy, they're high-strung and it's not the normal, superficial angst that I look for in a Harlequin story. It was good in many respects. It kept me interested, I learned a lot about preemies and the parents' experience and I liked seeing things from the nurse's perspectives.

But I wasn't completely connected with either Reba or Lucas. First of all, the story starts on a premise that I'm not a huge fan of. Reba miscarried only one of two babies, so she was pregnant still and chose not to inform Lucas, who, despite his less than ideal reaction to a miscarriage, had every right to know about the child. And I'm honestly surprised he didn't bring up Reba's decision in his outburst about what caused the miscarriage. It could easily have been said that if she'd told him and they'd been together, he might she might not have been working and would have noticed, etc.. So I hate that she kept that knowledge from him. Very selfish thing to do. And she didn't once apologize for it. Reba spends the entirety of the story operating at a stress level that would give most people a heart attack. As a result, she's pretty unpleasant and for most of the story I just wanted her to take a moment and to look at Lucas and for once appreciate the things he was doing for her. Lucas I connected with a bit more, understanding his need to control things out of fear and believing that the man must have the patience of a saint. But what was with his disappearing act? And she forgave him that quickly! Wow. A very emotional read, but not really what I was looking for.

This should have been way more compelling, I can't even imagine parents in this situation. The anxiety wasn't as sharp as it should have been which is disappointing. Not bad but there are better easy, breezy reads.
