I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Book

This review is of the audible edition, this listing was not available on goodreads at the time of writing.

The story is quite good with a good sense of apprehension about the bears from the boys perspective as his grandpa weaves his tale, the relationship between the boy and his grandpa is a bit odd at times and when the father arrives things turn even odder as they discuss the bears and the spirit stones. It's an interesting short listen but not the horror the summary on audible.co.uk makes it out to be. The description on goodreads is a lot more accurate.

The Production

The narrator is a good 'grandpa' voice and the quality is good. The downside is there's some background noise when he speaks, not sure if its lip smacking or just general rustling but it can be distracting at times. The reading at times seems a little fast so this is not one for listening to in the background when you do something else unless you're used to higher speed reading.

Overall I enjoyed this short story. It seemed like some of the sentences ran on from time to time. They could have been written differently or broken up and still gotten the message across. George Ridgeway did a good job with the narration. His voice for the grandpa was really good.

Disclaimer: My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to or will listen to multiple times. I'll update my review if I listen again.

I requested this book from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
