Trapped in a tower by a witch who claims to be her mother, Rapunzel has led a lonely life. Now, grown into a young woman, she is plagued by desires she has no idea how to fulfill. But everything changes when a handsome prince climbs through her tower window and feeds the hunger she had thought insatiable.

On a quest for a Golden Chalice, Prince Rodrigo is convinced Rapunzel is there to distract him from finding the Chalice. He thinks to use her for his pleasure, take what he has come for, and be on his way. But when Rapunzel proves to be more than an erotic diversion, Rodrigo must face the realities of her captivity by a witch who is definitely not her mother.

3 1/2 stars (rounded down to 3 stars because I hate the use of the c-word - yes, that's a matter of personal taste, but since this is my rating, 3 stars it is)

Note (11/11/2013): When I read this book, its title was 'Rapunzel'. Now, it's 'The Tower'. What's up with the change? Was it needed? Does it make any difference? Of course not, so why have they done it? My OCD did not like that.

Note 2 (11/12/2013): The title has been changed back to 'Rapunzel'. What's happening with this book? I'm confused,
very confused.

I'm almost halfway through this, and it's great! I love how Lisa puts the intense sexual feelings up front, then goes back and makes the characters look at why they reacted to each other that way, and why, internally, they're going to fight those feelings. She did this in PASSION too, and I adored it.
As always, her erotic prose is just exquisite.

When it comes to erotica, Ms. Lisa Valdez never fails to impress! (emphasis on the never, here!) I stayed up all night reading this and it was probably one of the steamiest books I've read. The Tower is an erotic retelling of the classic fairy tale, Rapunzel. I was impressed by the author's beautiful writing that she was able to fill up missing gaps in some parts of the story and was able to inflame the pages as well! I just wish this was longer, though. I would've fully enjoyed it if I were to read more of Rapunzel and Rodrigo. But it was great! If you're looking for a fairy tale read with an erotic twist---and when I say erotic, I mean getting your panties soaked literally---read this! I am officially and undoubtedly in love with this author. Hands down, for Ms. Lisa Valdez has done it again!

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

(Note: I read the book as Rapunzel, now it has been reissued as The Tower. I don't know if anything new has been added though. :/)

After years of waiting, I finally finished another Lisa Valdez book. Even though it was not Primrose, much to my utter disappointment, but at least I got to read something from her! Rapunzel was... yah, you got it right, an erotic re-telling of the fairytale of the same title.

Rapunzel lives in a tower, where she is locked away by an evil witch, whom she thinks is her mother. She lives all alone. The tower has no door or steps, and the only way the witch can bring Rapunzel the provisions is to climb the long braid of her shiny golden hair. Rapunzel has been misled by the witch about her captivity. She thinks this is how she’s supposed to live. The witch has let no other living being to come close to her. Rapunzel has been warned too; if she tries to escape, she’ll burn to death as soon as her feet touch the ground.

Rapunzel thought she was happy to live this way until one day, when Prince Rodrigo finds her, showing her that there is a life outside of this solitary tower. That good and evil reside side by side, that wars and diseases are not the only things the world ever gets to experience. And that she can’t judge the black from white because they live intertwined. But Rodrigo also understood that it was not Rapunzel’s fault but whatever the witch had fed her mind.

Rodrigo had been in search of a Golden Chalice for some years now, which is said to have such power to bring all the 9 countries, which are constantly at war, together. Rodrigo wants peace and the chalice’s power is necessary for the process.

Rodrigo is cursed from his birth by a witch. He’d never sire an heir and unfortunately, he’s the only heir to his father’s throne. For that alone, Rodrigo is more than determined to do whatever necessary to bring peace and unite the warring countries. His tracking instincts have led Rodrigo to this tower. He thought he felt the presence of the chalice within it! For weeks, he has observed the ugly witch and how she climbs into the tower by a braid of golden hair.

When he climbs inside, instead, Rodrigo finds a beautiful woman... Rapunzel.

Well, don’t think I have to elaborate that they do spend the next few days by doing a lot of ‘pleasurable activities’. Rodrigo and Rapunzel also talk about themselves, learning each-other more than on a physical level. They fall in love too. As he’s forced to leave before the witch’s return, Rodrigo promises Rapunzel that he’ll come for her as soon as he’s able, to take her with him and marry her.

But when the witch visits Rapunzel, she smells the difference in the air, knowing something is not right here...

TBH, I haven’t read the fairytale Rapunzel since I was a child. But I’ve re-read it while reading this book. I’m not going to discuss a compare and contrast of the two stories but I enjoyed this Rapunzel a lot. Mainly because I LOVE LV’s writing, and her hot love scenes. I only wished there were MORE of that.

4.5 stars. Now I’m back to counting my days for Primrose and the second installment of this series. *sigh*

Prens'in gidişinin üzerinden beş gün geçip, Rapunzel her yeri derinlemesine temizlemiş olsa da annesi sandığı cadı gelir gelmez habire etrafı koklamaktadır.

Prens'in veletleride tabii hazır veliahtcıklar.

Basically porn without the cheesy music...

Honestly I want to like this book. I have read this author's other titles and fell I'm love with her characters, but not so much with this fairy tale. It feels rushed and very little character building. This book is basically just porn without the cheesy music! I still liked the concept of the book just felt like it could have been executed a little better!

This story was short yet satisfying and it left me wanting more from this author. Valdez was able to keep it sexually sensual yet romantic at the same time. A must read for those who love historical erotica with a little twist of fantasy.

I love fairy tale retellings! And as such, I enjoyed reading this book. Warning, this review has spoilers!

So this is about Rapunzel, adult version. I love the innocence of Rapunzel and her self discovery about the "hunger" she was feeling. I kept thinking if it was related to the being the Golden Chalice or something? I dunno. And I love that Prince Rodrigo fell in love with this innocence despite his jadedness. The twist about how the Golden Chalice will bring peace is something that I really like. Nothing like a good ole family reunion of sorts. And I did not see it coming, at that. I mean when Rapunzel said she was being taken cared of by a golden haired woman when she was younger, I did figure out this was her mom. But I never thought that this was a runaway princess of the rival kingdom. And of course with Rapunzel ending up with Prince Rodrigo, well that ends the war since now the kingdoms are united.

I find this to be an easy read, I finished it in one sitting. The sex parts are not overpowering. There are only a few of these, so I was able to focus on the story more instead of just the hot bed scenes.

So this is exactly what the title says it is: an erotic twist to the beloved tale, Rapunzel.

I guess when Prince Rodrigo said “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, bring down your hair”, he could have had every wicked intention in his body to bed her. Which he did.

This story has decent plot, hence 3.5 stars. Why not higher? Because there’s such a thing as too much smut. Less of it would have been ideal, a little cat and mouse chase, too. But no, this book opened with Rapunzel being wanton already. I would have wanted a bit of coaxing and shyness, but I guess raw passion is Lisa Valdez’s specialty.

Good short read.

Well, I don’t know how Ms. Valdez managed to write such an engaging story where over 90% of it takes place in that one tower, but she did it! Not only that, but the novella is only, what, maybe 200 pages at most? Yet, the pacing is perfect - neither dragged out nor rushed, with great character and plot developments. The writing quality itself is high, too; no awkward sentence structures or grammatical errors. I suppose this is because the book was published in a time when publishers still invested in in-house editors.

All in all, this is the perfect bedtime story for adults. 🩷

3.5⭐️

This is indeed a bed time story,,,, for adult.

There’s a beautiful golden haired girl who locked up in a high tower, a Prince Charming who is on a quest to find something to break a curse, an evil ugly witch with an even evil motive, a good narrative and fairytale background, and a lot, lots, lots of f*king.

I wish they use another word to “it” , a more subtle word, so it would match the fairytale background. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Difficult to evaluate this book, my first book that is fully erotica. I didn’t like the use of the “c” word. Frankly, she could have easily made it both erotic and sensual by changing the language a bit, but hey, that’s my preference.
The second half of the book was better and redeemed it from a lower rating.

Raunchy (lots and lots of f-bombs! and use of the c-word for her part and his part), but not too explicit. (Sure, they were at each other like proverbial rabbits - but the scenes weren't as descriptive and prolonged as others I've read.)

And with a fairy tale bolstering the events.

Rodrigo and Rapunzel ... and the nine kingdoms had their happily ever after.

It's Okay

Not as good as her novels and Rapunzel is a little slow, but I have seen worse. It's worth a read if you're bored.

The Tower is Lisa Valdez's erotic version of the Rapunzel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. I've read the original version and was impressed by the author's faithful retelling of the tale but, at the same time, I liked how she filled in the gaps in the original story. The best part was the idea of the quest, which Rodrigo was on, searching for The Golden Chalice -- a mythical item that was said to end the wars. His search leads him to Rapunzel's tower and he believes that the chalice is found in the tower.

What he finds instead is Rapunzel. The lust and the sex seem to happen quite suddenly in Valdez's version but, then again, it's just as fast in Grimm's -- though Grimm's version is not as graphic and explicit as Valdez's.

And this, I think, is the value of this e-novella: Lisa Valdez writes erotic historical romance and she writes the erotic part well. I especially like Lisa's control on this novella: she was able to balance out story and sex very well and was able to sneak in a bit of insight into Rapunzel and Rodrigo's character: she's lonely and naive and he's travel-weary, far from home and also lonely -- when they first meet, it's a new thing, a fresh thing for both of them -- and they act on the desire. Yes, it's lust but it's also something more: the very primal need for companionship.

Long, long before the romance world had a taste of E.L. James's Fifty Shades of Grey, Lisa Valdez was already writing an edgier kind of romance story with her debut novel, Passion (2005). It took her 5 years before Patience's story (2010) (which I didn't like as much) was released and we are still waiting for Primrose's story -- but, in the interim, she has published The Tower. It's short and incredibly steamy -- but I think fans of Lisa Valdez will come away quite satisfied (yes, pun intended) with this latest offering.

My one small complaint is that when the writing gets hot, it also loses a bit of its "historical-ness" and becomes a bit too modern. (Also a bit weird when I read this part: "his seed boil in his balls." - p.61)

Rating: 3.5/5
Steam: Just off the charts. I gave it an 8 out of 5.

Rapunzel, An Erotic Bedtime Story is a new novella from Liza Valdez and it is very much a smuttified version of Rapunzel. It’s not a historical romance inspired by the fairytale but an actual retelling of it. While a historical romance inspired by the tale would’ve been more interesting, Lisa Valdez’s Rapunzel is definitely very entertaining and fun to read.

Can you say HOT!!! Ms Valdez knows her erotica and she tells some very HOT stories! I think I will like the Erotic Bedtime Stories very much!

This is one of my favorite stories when I was a kid and to see it transformed to an adult version was very interesting.

Of course Ms Valdez put her own spin on this fairytale and it is not the same tale as the children's story. The prince comes to Rapunzel's tower in the beginning of the book. In this story we are told of the time the Prince spends with Rapunzel and how they fall in love. If only they can find a way to be together without the Witch ruining everything.
