This is the second disappointing book in row that I'm reading. It's awful when it happens.

The book is not horrible, under other circumstances I might have enjoyed it a little more but lately I'm not patient at all with books.I hate being mean so I'll do my best not to because all the other reviews are +4 stars so something might be wrong with me after all.

I thought that the story was mainly meaningless and pointless.Let me tell you what happened in a few sentences.

Addison bumps into a stranger at a cafe, and his gaze seems familar to her.

It turns out that this stranger, named Holden is a doctor at the hospital she volunteers.

They start dating.

They are cute together.

But she has to leave him because of her studies and she doesnt tell him until the last day.

Misunderstanding #1: During the good bye day she sees him with an other girl and she leaves without saying good bye.

She is mad and she ignores his texts and phone calls.

After 11 months

They meet again at the hospital he is working.

They solve the misunderstanding.

They start dating again.

An other misunderstanding...

They solve the misunderstanding.

They are happy again.

They have sex.

Something cute happens but I'm not telling ya.

That's all!

There were time where the writing was a little messy.

Examples:

His brown eyes danced before her, alright with desire and ... Ahh

And Ahh ??? Really???

Dammit inner sex-goddess you need to wake up.

Bitch slap your inner goddess!!I cant believe that she was sleeping.

BTW it reminded me of FSoG.... WHT is the inner goddess???

And the most awful moment.....

"We’re outside his house. We’re going to have sex. He is going to have sex with me. He is a freaking sexy doctor and he wants to have sex with me."

OMG it sounded so childish.....

What I liked:

What??I liked something!!
I loved the whole fate setting! There is also an amazing quote but I've changed it a little :)

If two people are meant to be together their souls will entwine ; forever sealed as one.

“If souls are reincarnated Holden, you and I have lived a hundred lifetimes and maybe in every one, we’ve found our way to one another. You’re my one person; you’re my fate, Holden.”

This book was a combination of sweet romance and a quiet intensity that culminates as the plot progresses. I enjoyed the plot and the characters very much. For a debut novel, R. Jean Wilson has done a magnificent job of character development and an interesting plotline!!

The book starts out with Addison Caldwell meeting Holden Taylor at a coffee shop. Right then I knew this book had “THAT” feeling to it, where there is something deeper, something stronger that connects the two main characters besides lust and attraction. I think this book effectively made my list of “most intense romances.”

“When I saw you at the coffee shop I wasn’t stunned at how handsome you were, I was stunned at the instant pull you had over me.”

Both of them just knew each other…without knowing each other. As the two get closer and become friends, the attraction intensifies. It was like watching their attraction push and pull towards each other; I literally could just see and feel it. I love how R. Jean Wilson uses so many details: the activities Addison and Holden do, their daily schedules, all of it makes the story more real. I love how Holden constantly pushes Addison’s boundaries; it’s clear that even though Addison has had plenty of dates and friends, Holden does things spontaneously enough that Addison doesn't know what’s next on his list and it keeps her on her toes.

“She could hear Holden’s encouragements from below, but in that instance, she knew she was jumping for herself, to experience the journey and to live in the moment for once in her life.”

Addison’s character really matures and as the two cross the line in becoming more than just friends, a big misunderstanding, future careers, and long distance separate the star-crossed lovers. It isn’t until a year later that the two meet once again. I already knew the two were attracted to one another, but reading their meeting scene again was like hitting me in the forehead. R. Jean Wilson is really talented with her words, and they convey such deep and intense meaning I couldn’t help but be sucked into the story.

From the beginning I just knew that there was something else driving their attraction, and thankfully, I wasn’t off target. Towards the end, I FINALLY got to see what made their relationship so strong, so solid, and the reason didn’t disappoint me. I only wish it was introduced a bit earlier into the story so I had some time to see it absorb into the plot and watch how it would play out in Addison and Holden’s relationship.

I also greatly appreciate the setting and location of the story since I come from Houston and I go to school in Austin. The scenery is beautiful and described well. Overall, this story was 4 stars for me but the intensity of their relationship, plus a few scenes where I highlighted as epic quotes bumped it up to 4.5 stars. If you’re looking for a sweet romance with angsty moments, this is the one!!!

4-4.5 STARS!!!

This review can originally be found at Deb's Crazy Obsession.

I LOVED it! It is so sweet, and so real. Most books aimed for us twentysomething people depict event or circumstances in the extreme to create an interesting story. Clementine doesn't. And doesn't need to.

It's a sweet, loving story about two people who meet and eventually fall in love. Or do they? Is it one-sided? Does he really feel the same? They haven't really been on an official date yet, maybe he just sees Addison as a friend. All theses are questions Addison ask herself before life tears them apart.

There is no "I can't live without him" or wallowing in self-pity. She realizes is sucks and hurts but she have to move on. I love that she takes age appropriate decisions and has a normal, human reaction to the events in life, even if she has a bit of a jealous streak.

You get to know both Holden and Addy really well and you grow to love them both. You feel Addison's excitement, you laugh with her and you feel her insecurities as your own. And I never wanted to smack her. Not once. That has to be a first for a non-paranormal romance. She's just that reasonable.

And Holden. Comfortable Holden with his sexy smirk. I can really picture him infront of me. I can see the joy in his eyes when he jumps of that bridge and his unbalanced features at the telescope when Addy throws him off balance. He's just amazing. A level-headed surgeon with both feet on the ground. Without a disturbing, dark past as most book boyfriends theses days.

I am absolutely captured by Wilson's writing. It's simple and lighthearted. It says so much without ever adding paragraphs of useless text. Everything she writes add to the story and never say either too much or too little. She held me prisoner from the first line, probably because I know how much I hate organic chem, and never let me go. This is absolutely gorgeous writing.

This is a story about two people falling in love when life tries to intervene more than once. It's a story where you'll recognize yourself and that will captivate you by it's simplicity. It's a story about real life.

This book is a favorite.

“If souls are reincarnated Holden, you and I have lived a hundred lifetimes and maybe in everyone one, we’ve found our way to one another. You’re my one person; you’re my fate, Holden”

I’ve suddenly developed a medical issue and Holden seems like the perfect person to fix me up. Wink wink!

The first time Addison is caught drooling over Holden, she can’t shake the feeling that she has met him before. Addison signs up to volunteer delivering flowers at the hospital where she runs into Holden again, then again at a hospital function. After several chance encounters, Holden invites Addison kayaking. Seriously, could Wilson make Holden any more dreamy as he paddled the kayak without a shirt…Yes please!

Their “friendship” grows over several months until she leaves for school. She tries to put Holden behind her but fate would not allow it. Their lives once again intertwine.

I loved how the R. Jean Wilson was able to capture Addison’s inner thoughts by writing them out in italics, just as Addison was thinking them. I also really liked how the text messages were shown true to text form in the story. Both made this freebie an easy read. I am so glad this story was pointed out to me, I loved it!

Fate has a funny way of leading you to where you belong. Sometimes, you have to go through heartbreak to get there but in the end you find that every tear shed was worth the wait.

If your waiting to read this one, don’t… move it to the top of you list. It’s a quick easy read that will make you laugh, swoon, shake your head and leaving you picturing Holden without a shirt on long after you’ve finished reading!

Fate has a funny way of making sure that you find yourself exactly where you're supposed to be. From the moment that Addison saw Holden in the coffee shop where she was studying with her classmate, Sarah, she was instantly drawn to him. After running into him again while volunteering at the hospital he works in a week later, they make plans to go kayaking together. After that they start spending more and more time together without officially labeling themselves as dating, which certainly confuses Addison. When Addison has to leave Austin in order to attend school in NC, she's hesitant to let Holden know and even more reticent to profess her feelings for him.

The night before she's scheduled to leave, they spend the night embracing each other and share the first of several kisses, but Holden doesn't help the situation when he leaves a note on Addy's pillow explaining that things went a lot further than he intended. This of course confuses Addy and she makes the decision to try and push Holden away and move on with her life. A year later, after trying to move on and forget Holden, Addy finds the letter he left her and she makes the decision to return to the same hospital that Holden works at to complete her medical training. She doesn't see him when she initially returns, but once they are forced to work together they wind up reconnecting and the chemistry between Holden & Addison is still undeniably scorching hot. Timing certainly is everything, and while it may not have been the right time when they were initially together, their paths have always been inextricably intertwined. Fate has lead them back to each other in one of the most sweetest endings I've read to date.

This was a very cute romance. Although it did not have much heat between the pages, it was a great love story.

Addison is just about finished with college, wanting to continue her education as a PA when a stranger crosses her path that seems too familiar. Holden is the hot doctor that feels the same pull towards Addison when they first meet.

As they form a friendship their lack of communication about their feelings seems to get in the way. Pursuits of her dreams and ambitions separate them for a time, but when she still can't let go of the memory of the time they shared together - it is time to fight for what she wants.

As they reunite they have to work through the misunderstandings of the past and also work through the complications of their working relationship. But that feeling of knowing on another beyond this life still exists.

Part of me was waiting for a massive dose of angst to be delivered courtesy of one catty nurse, but I was pleased with the direction the author took this story. Although I tend to like my reads a bit spicy - this was a great romantic story that just left you feeling a bit happier all giddy inside.

The use of weaving pasts with the present was done well and did not need any explanation as the story unfolded. These two were both well written characters and I enjoyed them both. I had set out to read a few chapters and found that I was not able to put it down until I knew how it ended.

If you like your romances sweet and with a HEA this is a great read for you. A fantastic story of destiny, fate and love prevailing.

Do you know what I love about Goodreads? Finding all the gems written by some fantastic independent authors! Clementine is a very sweet love story and a departure from the angst-ridden books normally found in the New Adult genre. No complicated love triangles. No dark secrets. No hidden agendas. Are there obstacles to overcome? Sure. All good love stories need a little drama, but nothing over-the-top and unrealistic.

It took me a while before I figured out what the stories at the beginning of the chapters meant....I think I was halfway through the book before the light bulb went off in my head! Nice touch. I think Holden needed a bit more "screen time"....maybe a few chapters from his POV. Overall a good story with a sweet and slightly unexpected ending.

I was asked by the author to read her book, and I will be forever grateful for having the chance to do so. :3

"If souls are reincarnated Holden, you and I have lived a hundred lifetimes and maybe in everyone one, we've found our way to one another. You're my one person; you're my fate, Holden."

Clementine is a wonderful debut book. It is wonderfully written, and I was so intrigued by the flashbacks the book has offered. Also, MEDICAL DRAMA. If you loved Grey's Anatomy, you will love this. What I also loved about this book is it doesn't simply revolve around Addison and Holden's love story. It is a story about Addison going after her dreams. She didn't throw away her dreams to stay and be with Holden, despite their very intense attraction. I always love that career over love decision things.

I absolutely love this part: "Ask me who my favorite kayaking partner is, Addy. Or who my favorite person to stargaze with is, my favorite person to laugh with, my favorite pair of eyes. My favorite smile. My favorite kiss."

Although at the beginning, it felt like characterization of every character seemed flimsy, the characters eventually found their shapes.

It may not be super stellar, like Nicholas Sparks level, but I believe R. Jean Wilson is going to be a wonderful author someday, if this book is any indication. I really, really would love to see more of her works. Because this book? It is a very good read . I recommend this to everyone who wants to feel great about life and love, and to believers of fate and destiny, like me. :)

First let me say, that I am Moving to Austin to become a PA!!! I'm so happy to have recieved this book for my review. This story is so sweet and endearing. I have a new found love for the medical profession and all that they do. This story is a breath of fresh air that makes you want to jump from a bridge just for fun. Addison is a very strong force in this book. She stands her ground and is very definitely not a push over and sticks to her guns. Holden is the guy that you think would be an arrogant player that has two or three girls being strung along. Suprisingly, he is the sweetest most caring man you can find in a white coat. From the begining you want their relationship to survive all that is thrown at them, including Stacy (I truly wanted to scratch her eyes out)and the georgeous and mysterious brunette. Unfortunately, Stacy's character is necessary for Addy and Holden to come together. I was so sad when Addy moved after her first night with Holden. You wanted her to stay and give up everything to be with him. This makes you love her even more. The rush of emotions that I felt reading this book had me turing page after page to make sure Addy did the right thing. Holden will undoubtably grab your heart and hold on for the entire ride. Addy's mom had a huge discovery that was a delightful suprise. The ending was completely unexpected and sweet. Would love to read more of their story...

This was unexpected read by me, and let me tell you that it exceeded my expectations by a mile.

I really liked how this book played with the idea of fate intertwining two strangers throughout the years, and how the choices affect the way in which our lives turn. What is it with doctors.. when I heard the description i kept thinking "McHottie" (Grey's Anatomy has ruined me haha)

The little love stories (i want to fall for a stranger like bicycle man or have a great love like that old man) made this book an even bigger gem!

4 SWEET ROMANTIC FATE DRIVEN STARS! So as an avid Grey's Anatomy lover this book was a must read! A hot sexy neurosurgeon?! DONE!! This book is a quick sweet loving read. I think we can all relate to some of the obstacles that stand in Addison and Holden. You mean men and women have a hard time communicating?! :) One of my favorites was the quotes that were at the beginning of chapters. I loved the theme that fate will bring two soul mates together. This is definitely a must if you want to read a sweet romantic story. ~Leslie

I'm between 3 and 4 stars
A beautiful story about two people that fate brings them together again and again . It's written in third person and we get inside Addison's mind only.
Addison is a kind person with a good heart but she is naive and very insecure .
Holder was very patient gay , charming , gentleman and lick-able.
To be honest it's not the style of book I'm usually reading lately ( I missed the angst ) but I quite enjoyed it.
I'am waiting for the next work of this author .

This is a must read! I give it 4.5 Stars! It was a truly sweet book and just what I needed after reading so many angst written books. The beginning of every chapter never failed to put a smile on my face. It was truly endearing and during the whole book you truly hoped fate would bring this couple together. Thank you Ms. Wilson and I look forward to more coming from you!

This book was interesting... Not a lot of hot on the hot-o-meter but a lot of sexual tension.

It had a great story line and some mystery which is what I loved about it. Addy and Holden... Very cute and the ending honestly rocked.

I get the premise and I like the characters. I even love that there was no dark twisty past to the characters, or at least to Addison, because I still feel a story there where Holden is concerned. Still, it was a weak delivery that played it really safe where drama was concerned.

There was a lot, bordering on too much medical jargon, and grammatical errors, even being a debut novel. It could have still been edited properly. I always believe that there is an excuse for everything in story writing, except for editing. All it takes is reading. It's your story after all, read it a million times if that's what it takes!

This was a really safe story and as such we never really got much anxiety from this one. Addison was so insecure that it was unbelievable. I don't think I ever shared her concerns with regards to Holden only wanting to be her friend or him having a girlfriend ... c'mon Addy, no guy leaves a hospital shift to go yoga with you, no matter hoe good a friend you are!
Their major problems, (like a fundraising dinner ....) seemed very boring and not so major to me. A lot of excitement and anxiety filled moments would have pushed this novel to the next level, or maybe even some recognition of a fight from Holden whenever Addison decided to run. But it all remained extremely safe like we were afraid to start conflict for fear of Holden and Addy not being the perfect couple.

The medical jargon was quite alot. I had to read the author's bio to check if she was a doctor or in the field of medicine. I love Grey's Anatomy and I feel like this at times started to feel like a Grey's Anatomy rip off. I like research when it comes to a story line but we spent so much time at the hospital and I still don't even know what she was really doing those weeks and if I didn't already know what a physician's assistant was, I'd confuse them with a surgeon from this book. Honestly, why go to medical school if you can do this?!

However, there were moments to love in this novel. While I don't fully grasp the soul mate moments that begin most chapters, I liked the vibe it brought and the atmosphere it transcended. I'm not a sappy romantic, but even I could somewhat understand and appreciate the creativity and gesture.

Holden ... He loved Addison, is into outdoors activities and seems like a stand up guy, but a chunk of this story was spent in another state, with another set of people, and as such, I felt like we were roaming. I found it hard to get a footing on Holden's character, because I'm not too sure when we would be running or gone again. Even though we were eventually reassured that this is how we are suppose to be feeling. Due to all this change, I never really got to love Holden as a character as much as I understand the logic of them being together.

I like Addison (mostly her name), but I also respect her strength. Regardless of her insecurity issues, she is strong and determine and didn't fill this story with naivety and crying or unhealthy pining. She took control of her life and surroundings even when it was falling apart, and having Vickie as a mom really helped.

Speaking of which, it was good to also break the cliche and have a nice healthy southern family, who hasn't caused their daughter deep seeded issues by death or abuse. Even though we only get direct and constant contact with her mom, it's nice to know she has the support and they are around.

As I am always looking out for new music, I loved the playlist at the beginning of the novel, as I love some of the songs, even if I hate the way they were referenced into the novel.
Speaking of which, I love the text format, as it's a nice touch to actually have message bubbles so it seems as if you are reading it from Addy's phone. Their little notes were a cute touch also.

Addison is unable to hold a steady best friend, I feel as if Holden is hiding a secret with regards to his life before Addy, and this story needs some good drama, anxiety and editing to take it to that next level!
With such an abrupt and incomplete ending, or at least it felt that way to me, I hope if there is a second book on the horizon, it is much better and doesn't seem like a Grey's Anatomy rip off.

This story has potential and I was definitely interested to see where it would end up. Hopefully there is a continuation on the horizon, because as is, it's a little too safe for me.

3 Star Review for Clementine by R. Jean Wilson

I enjoyed the premise of the book that fate will intervene to reunite to souls regardless of the paths their lives take. It was a story of new love with an underlying sense of familiarity. The chemistry between Holden and Addison was there but the story didn’t really ring true for me.

Holden and Addison see each other in a coffee shop and she can’t stop thinking about him. Something is familiar. Addison is in her senior year of college studying to get her PA and is working at a doctor’s office for some hands on experience. When the office is invited to a party a local hospital, Addison and Holden run into each other again. Dr. Holden Taylor is the new, hot, young doctor who is interning at the hospital. He has the ladies swooning at his feet wherever he goes.

Addison and Holden start “dating” but since no one actually calls it a date, she deems it as just hanging out. So when Addison gets accepted to a PA school in North Carolina she holds off telling him until the night before she leaves. They share a moment and then she is gone. She leaves with unanswered questions and a longing for Holden.

Fast-forward 11 months, she has completed her PA training in North Carolina and is now returning home to complete her internship. Accepted to two hospitals she chooses the one that Holden is at.
After some avoiding of one another, they reconnect and pick up where they left off. Hiding their relationship from the hospital until they have received approval that they are not violating hospital policy.

After celebrating at a hospital fundraiser they return to Holden’s apartment for a night of passion and discover that their paths have previously crossed.

Like I mentioned, I liked the idea of fate, but the story just didn’t support the characters. I would have enjoyed the story more from a first person point of view. Since the story was told in 3rd person I don’t feel that I was able to really connect to the characters. I didn’t feel engaged in their interactions, just an outsider listening in.

The conflicts that the couple faced were not really conflicts. Stacy the super jealous, clingy blonde from the hospital was more of an annoyance than anything. I am not sure why Addison allowed her to get under her skin and in the beginning of the story it appeared that they were friends. The mis-understanding that she cuts off contact over is just that a mis-understanding.

While this may not have been an amazing read for me, I have seen reviews by others that really enjoyed it. So, I will leave it for you to decide for yourself if Clementine is for you.

First of all let me say that I was approached by the author to read this book. She thought I would enjoy it based on my previous book reviews and she wasn't wrong!

Have you ever laid eyes on someone and got this eerie feeling that you knew them from somewhere? And there’s this pull off ‘em and you don’t know why?

I loved it! This story was so realistic. I couldn't help but like it and I totally saw myself as Addy. Yes, of course it was in a “day dream!” ;)

Clementine is about a man and a woman who meet and yes they fall in love. It’s not your typical dating as everything seems too innocent. They hang out, talk all the time and though it’s clear they have “deeper” feelings for each other they don’t cross that very thin line. The “relationship status” is unclear and the journey to figure it out was alluring!

I loved the characters, Wilson developed them perfectly. She doesn't give you too little or too much information. Addison is a smart young lady who...I wouldn't say has low self-esteem but she sure doesn't give herself enough credit. But then again what girl in her twenty’s thinks she’s God’s gift to men? She is a student hoping to become a PA. Holden is a very bright, charming, sexy surgeon. With Addison he let’s loose and is so caring you can’t help but swoon.

Life or fate, if you believe in that sort of thing, has a funny way of playing out. Addy needs to leave for PA school and a misunderstanding tears them apart. In life one needs to take the good in with the bad and that is exactly what Wilson gave us. I especially enjoyed the fact that though Addy’s heart was broken she still tried to move on with her life.

I promise you that during the sad parts I felt the pain but boy did it pay off to get to the GOOD parts.

My Favorite Line:
“If souls are reincarnated Holden, you and I have lived a hundred lifetimes and maybe in everyone one, we’ve found our way to one another. You’re my one person; you’re my fate, Holden”

I started Clementine a couple of weeks ago, but as it normally does, life got in the way. Yesterday, I decided to finally sit down and read. Read, I did. I felt that Wilson provided so much detail of the Austin, that I could see it all so clearly in my head. Holden and Addy are instantly drawn to each other, but it's their friendship, and knowing that they both had feelings for each other, that made it engaging. I loved that Addy didn't fall in to his arms the moment that he presented the option, she instead asserted her own will. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to kick her ass a few times for not seeing the signs. And Holden...I just thought he was so freakin' hot. A doctor? A nice guy? A HOT nice-guy doctor? Yes, please.

While I enjoy reading a good love story that has some sex in it, it's not required. I think that's one of the things that I ultimately really appreciated in Clementine. There was chemistry and sexual tension, and while the characters did have sex, it was spelled out in great detail, which left to me figure it out myself. This was a great first book, and I think Wilson did fantastic! I can't wait to read what she has coming next!

I loved the part about fate and soul mates that find their way to each other. The little bit of stories of different times and locations at the beginning of chapters were a great addition to the book. I almost skipped some parts just to get to those little fragments of stories.

BUT I didn't like the protagonist. She was pretty annoying. I thought she was childish. And the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING situations in books are getting annoying too. And this book is full of them. There was one misunderstanding after an other. WHAT.THE.HELL. Anyone have ever heard of that thing called talking? Having a conversation?
And I don't like the medical environment in fictions in general (TV and books). It's not my thing. I didn't realize it would have such an important part in the story.

So, I guess you can say that it's not that the book is bad in itself. It's just that it wasn't for me, mainly because I'm fed up with misunderstandings in books and I didn't like the setting. So I'm sure a lot of people will like this book. So, don't let my review influence you too much whether to read the book or not.

Call it kismet, fate, or instant attraction but the second Addison Caldwell meets Dr. Holden Taylor she is struck by a familiarity and undeniable attraction to the handsome man. Addison finds her thoughts overwhelmed by the images the handsome doctor has given her, she only regrets they might not meet again. Fortunately they do, and a friendship ensues that does not have any rules, but the lines of what they are to one another are a little fuzzy for Addison and when she has to leave to continue her college education everything changes.

I thought this story was paced so well, it was not instant mushy or happily ever after. There was a cultivated friendship that developed, but they left a lot unsaid. This was romantic, charming, and everything a good love story should be. Delightful read.

Clementine is a sweet book. I think the idea of fate intertwining two people was a cute idea.

I feel like the book would have been stronger in first person. We only see things as Addison sees them, so it would have made more sense to me to have it be a first person book rather than third. That being said, keeping it in third person but seeing more of Holden’s perspective would have been nice as well.

Overall, it’s a sweet and lighthearted book that’s a definite change from all the angst and drama-filled books that seem to be a dime a dozen lately.

The book blurb doesn't really do the story justice. It's much more than meek-girl-meets-hot-successful-man-boom-insta-love. (Although that is a part of it, so if you don't like instalove then don't pick this book up.)

We get to see two adults build a relationship rather than rush into "relations".

As I've said in my review for Thief, people don't work out for one of two reasons. Either it's not the right time, or it's not the right person. I loved figuring it out which one it was for Holden and Addison.

Took awhile for me to get into this book but once I did I really fell hard for Holden. Just not sure why mom didn't rally for Holden knowing what she knew. why didn't her friends tell her to COMMUNICATE when you LOVE the boy. Holden is one of the most romantic book boyfriends I have fallen for in some time. Book still needs some editing but overall I enjoyed it!
