She is also a devoted chauffer, the keeper of missing socks, a genius according to a six year old, the coolest soccer uniform coordinator according to a twelve year old, and the best damn ‘mac-n-cheese-with-cut-up-hot-dog maker in the whole world. Well that last title isn’t really official, but it’s still pretty cool to be called it.
When not being ordered around by any of the kids, you can find her with her nose in a book or on the sideline of a soccer game cheering on one team or another. But that’s mostly because she has a thing for the coach. When she is not doing all of the above, you can find her obsessed with a group of fictional characters all vying for a spot on the page of whatever she’s working on. It’s a fun and crazy life to lead, but wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is a story that I simply could not put down until I was done.
Allie was devastated to tragically lose her husband five years ago. Ever since then she has been content being single, being the best aunty to her nephews and hanging out with friends and family. Recently, however, her new neighbour has been taking an interest in her and it leaves her feeling a bit hot and conflicted.
Mike too knows what it is like to lose someone you love. He has been single parenting his son for the past 10 years and he is about to graduate, heading off to college in the fall. Mike has crossed paths with Allie numerous times since they became neighbours and they have some mutual connections with friends. He has tried everything to get her attention and he is not ready to give up yet.
Allie is definitely not interested in dating anyone but Mike seems to have a knack for inserting himself in her daily life and eventually, after a failed bet, she ends up on a date with him. This is just the beginning of something amazing between them when Mike seems to ignite a spark in her that was long forgotten.
Allie may be enjoying all the giddy feelings she has when she is with Mike but in the back of her mind is a niggling feeling that she is betraying her late husband, not honoring his memory. She is beginning to see more of her future with Mike, the things she had hoped to have with Marc one day. Allie doesn’t know how to deal with everything going on in her and her wall of defence goes right back up, shutting Mike out.
Mike understands what Allie is feeling, he has been right there too. He knows she just needs time to work through her feelings and stop resisting what could be an incredible life together with him.
Another fantastic book hidden in the depths of my TBR pile that I completely inhaled this weekend. I loved it so much that I have bought the next two in the series. I read the first story years ago and I don’t know why it took me so long to get back to this series. Loved this!

Love Resisted was an amazing read. Her first book in this series, Love Realized, was fantastic so book two had very high expectations for me. Not only did she meet those expectations but she went above & beyond! She simply blew me out of the water with this one.
This story is all emotions jammed packed into one story. Allie is a strong character you meet in book one, this is her emotional story. The book had me laughing so hard at some parts and crying over other. An amazing read of love, loss, and finding yourself again.
A huge part of her books that I can't get enough of, her characters. Melanie creates such realistic characters that I felt like I was able to relate to them and actually felt like I knew them. I fell in love with this group of friends immediately in Love Realized, so it was great to check back in with them in this book and also get a deeper look into Allie's life.
I truely hope each of her characters get a book focused on them. I highly recommended this series to anyone who enjoys a true life love story.

What can I say about this book that hasn't been already said? I loved it. This book is about loss and finding love. Allie and Mike's story hit close to home. I also lost someone to cancer and just having to see your loved one struggle and lose their fight against this terrible disease is just awful. I got Mike. Mike made me cry. They both lost their spouses and Allie is less than willing to find love again because all of the guilt she carries. They meet through Gillian (Love Realized)and Allie fights him EVERY. STEP. OF. THE. WAY. Mike isn't a quitter, so the more she tries to push him out of her life, the more he pushes forward. The way he gets her to go on a date with him is too funny.. Without spoiling it, it was one of my favorite scenes and I had a stupid smile on my face. This book is emotional, heartwarming and you will fall in love with the rest of the characters. Make sure you have tissues on hand because you definitely will cry on more than one occasion. Melanie, thank you for writing such an amazing story and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

There is something about the characters in this book series that make you want to be part of their family/group. This is the second book from Melanie Codina in this series and it was just as good as book one. This book is the story of Allie and Mike. Both lost their spouses several years ago. Allie has a harder time letting go and moving on. Mike trys really hard to break down the walls Allie has built around her heart. Very heart warming love story. I love that we get so much of Gillian and Jake from book one. (Jake is still my favorite). I love Melanie's writing, her characters and story. I want more of Allie and Mike and of course Gillian and Jake!! Can't wait for the third book in this series and hope there are more after that one!!!

I have been waiting patiently for Allie Baxter’s story. After reading Love Realized, I fell in love with this group and especially the fire cracker, Allie. This group of friends have a bond that most wish they had with their friends.
After the death of her husband, Allie shut down. She closed herself off from the world, including her family. Allie moved away, and distanced herself from everyone. Allie blamed herself for Mar’s death even though it was an accident. Allie didn’t want everyone to look at her with pity in their eyes, so Allie stayed away. Did her friends and family look at her that way? Did her friends and family just miss the “old” Allie that they knew and loved? Was the look in their eyes, only concern? Could Allie allow herself to live a life without Marc?
Allie Baxter had given up dating all together after the losing Marc. Allie refused to put her heart out there again. To give her heart to another, only to have it destroyed once again. That was not going to happen. Allie vowed to NEVER love again, so Allie chose to build a brick wall around her heart. She was never going to allow herself to feel the pain she felt when she lost Marc.

Mike Lawson was Allie’s neighbor. Mike went to dinner with Allie’s best friend, Gillian after she had separated from her husband, Logan, which is Allie’s brother. There wasn’t sparks between Mike and Gillian, however they became very good friends and he was welcomed with open arms to their group of friends. Mike’s personality clicked with this group. He fit in well with everyone. Mike was immediately attracted to Allie. There was just something about this woman that drew him to her. Mike has been trying for months to get to know Allie, the “real” Allie, not to smart mouthed woman he sees. He knows there is more to her, than what she is allowing him to know.
"Her snippy comments were clearly a defense mechanism, and while he completely respected them, it was his new mission in life to break down that wall, brick by brick.” ~ Mike
Fortunately, Mike was a VERY patient man. He didn’t care how long it took him to break down those walls, because Allie Baxter was definitely worth the wait.
Allie’s comments were always fueled by sarcasm. Sarcasm was her armor, and that is how she fought every battle. Allie would put up her wall, and hit the bitch switch. Allie thought that if she was a bitch to Mike that her actions would push him away. Little did she know, Mike saw through her façade. He knew her game, and he was ready to be a key player in winning her over.
“Keep running Allie, but eventually I will catch you.” ~ Mike
When Allie was around Mike, she felt different. She was beginning to feel alive again. She began to have butterflies in her stomach which was overwhelming for her. Allie’s walls were beginning to break, and Mike was getting to see the Allie that everyone has been missing. Mike was getting to know the “old” Allie, the Allie before she was broken. Allie didn’t know what to do with these feelings, so she did what she did best, she threw the walls back up and pushed Mike away. She would be bitchy to him with the hope that he would just go away.
"Have I really been that bitchy? I didn’t mean to be.” ~ Allie
“Of course you didn’t, sweetie, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t been. I get it, I do. That guy over there has you all tied up in knots, and you can’t help but fight it.”
Gillian reached over and took Allie’s hands in hers.
“You said it yourself – he isn’t Marc, but that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to want him.” ~ Gillian
Mike will stop at nothing to get Allie to open up to him, to allow him in. He knows that he must go big or go home. Mike had to put himself out there. There was a bet, and a nice wager. Mike had a point to prove, and the stakes were totally worth it. Who would win? Allie or Mike?
Allie is falling for Mike and falling hard. Allie was struggling to resist Mike, to resist feeling again, to resist loving again. Allie seemed to be stuck in the past, and was refusing to live in the present. Allie didn’t want to look forward to a future, a future without Marc.
“Feelings led to love, love led to pain, end of story.” ~ Allie
Was a future with Mike possible? Could Allie love Mike? Could Allie let go of the past and realize that love isn’t so bad? Just because love was taken from you once, doesn’t mean that it will happen again. Allie and Mike had a lot in common. They had both lost someone that they loved. Did the circumstances in their deaths, make it different? Is Allie ready to take that risk again, the risk of loving someone?
I absolutely LOVE this series. Mike is absolutely AMAZING. He is perfect. His personality alone, is his selling point, not to mention his fabulous body, and gorgeous looks. Mike seems to be exactly what Allie needs. The only question is: Will Allie realize that resisting Mike is the wrong this thing to do? Allie needs to be able to let go of her past in order to move on with her future. Allie has resisted love for so long, could she possibly have known that Mike was her new forever, her new future? It may not have been the future she had seen five years ago, but it could be her future now.
The spark between Allie and Mike is evident. I, as a reader saw it, I was just waiting to see if Allie saw it. I loved how we got to see the entire group again in this book. I love Allie and Gillian’s relationship. Their friendship is one that most of us wish we had. They are not only best friends, but they are like sisters. They complete each other. I love the bickering between Jason, Jake and Allie. They crack me up. The group has known each other since there were kids and have been friends for a very long time. They are each other’s extended family. They all look out for each other and love each other.
This series is a MUST read. Love Realized is book 1 in the series and Love Resisted is Book 2. Get ONE CLICKING !!!!

I received an ARC for an honest review
I really enjoyed the first book from this series and I was very happy to hear that there would be more to come from this group of people ,,, they are believe able characters and some amazing people their hearts are big and open ,,, when you read about them you feel like your a pattern of it and want to be right there with them!!,
This book continues from where Love realized finished ,,, personally I would recommend reading this after reading the first just so that you get an idea of the story and characters!! ,,, Allie is one feisty little mama ;)
This book focuses on loss ,,, one of the hardest kinds ,,, but from two different perspectives ,,, one is a gradual loss from such an awful illness eating away at someone that you love having to watch the pain suffering and each moment that passes knowing that your losing more of that person and they are closer to their death ,,, and the other being instantaneous not having time to say anything not being there with them for them to be ripped straight from you!!!! Both characters have lost their spouse each having a different experience of death but both so painful!!!
How does someone deal with this type of pain? How do they know if it's ok to move on? Will it ever be ok?
For so many years Allie has been hell bent on punishing herself because of her husbands passing ,,, building walls and hiding behind them ,,, changing herself and not wanting to let anyone in!
Mike had little time to dwell on his wife's passing ,,, he had is grief and was a part of him and who had become ,,, but he had his son, his son needed a father now that his mother had been taken from his life ,,, Mike knew that he needed to be the best father he could ,,, and he was!!! Zane was brought up well and they had ways to remember his mother so that allow not there in person he would always know that she was there with him.
Mike met Allie through Gillian, and although he was attracted to Gillian, he thought Allie was so beautiful she was the one he felt the pull to and was grateful that he and Gillian hadn't worked out ,,, He knew that he wanted to get to know Allie better but her attitude towards him was very guarded and he knew that it would take ALOT to get through to her ,,, Persistence was key!!!!!
Allie knows she is attracted to Mike but she hasn't dealt with her feelings over Marc's death ,,, feeling guilty for feeling again she knew she couldn't let him in ,,, he was very persistent and he knew her pain like nobody else meant that he could reach out to her know just when she needed him ,,, her guard was down and he took his chance ,,,, Allies guilt soon turns to fear ,,, she knows how to run and the fear is paramount what will she do?? ,,, when she finally decides what she needs to do she is hit with something that could change everything the fear strikes her and loss is not something is is willing to accept again!! But is it too late??
This book is full of raw emotion and touches on a number of heartwarming subjects ,,, you will want to take Allie in your arms and cuddle her and then look at her with that *seriously look on your face then give her one of those deadly pinches she so freely dishes out and tell her to wake up
I loved this book and I'm excited to know yet again there is more to come :)

In Love Resisted, Ms. Codina has recreated the very same magic that captured me in Love Realized. Her ability to tell such a heart warming story with an incredible cast of characters makes reading her books so entertaining. Love Resisted is extremely well written with the perfect blend of humor, drama and romance that will have you laughing one moment and crying the next.
Allie is one feisty chick. She's worked hard to maintain her bitchy exterior to keep certain people, namely her super hot neighbor Mike, from getting too close. But she soon finds out that they have much more in common than she could've imagined. Where Mike has effectively dealt with his grief, Allie has hidden behind hers preventing her from moving on. Mike's determination to break down her walls and win her over is just plain swoon worthy. I was without a doubt rooting for him the whole time, and couldn't agree more when he would gave Allie a much needed dose of tough love, telling her what she needed to hear, not what she wanted to hear. The suspense of "will she or won't she" keeps you guessing right until the very end.
Ms. Codina has created an awesome cast of characters who instantly welcome you into their lives as you're pulled into the story. They couldn't be more "real" if they tried. What I love the most is that they're all perfectly imperfect! They represent the average person so well and deal with a lot of real life stuff that often gets glossed over in other books. Reading about characters that you can relate to really helps the story hit home & takes you right along for the ride, experiencing all the highs and lows.. These are the kinds of friends that make you wish you lived in their fictional world.
I have to mention one of my favorite scenes: The first time I heard the song Treasure by Bruno Mars on the radio (after reading Love Resisted) I was in my car driving home from work and I literally burst out laughing. There's a very special scene involving being serenaded boy band style that will have you giggling uncontrollably every time you conjure up the mental image. It's truly priceless and I doubt you will ever think of Treasure the same way again.
I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it BUT you should really start with Love Realized first for the full effect. You could probably read this as a stand alone but it would definitely help to have the character background provided in the first book since they all make a reappearance in the sequel. I will be anxiously awaiting the 3rd book in the series, Love Required!

Reading about characters that you can relate to really helps the story hit home & takes you right along for the ride, experiencing all the highs and lows.. These are the kinds of friends that make you wish you lived in their fictional world.
I have to mention one of my favorite scenes: The first time I heard the song Treasure by Bruno Mars on the radio (after reading Love Resisted) I was in my car driving home from work and I literally burst out laughing. There's a very special scene involving being serenaded boy band style that will have you giggling uncontrollably every time you conjure up the mental image. It's truly priceless and I doubt you will ever think of Treasure the same way again.
I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it BUT you should really start with Love Realized first for the full effect. You could probably read this as a stand alone but it would definitely help to have the character background provided in the first book since they all make a reappearance in the sequel. I will be anxiously awaiting the 3rd book in the series, Love Required!

I absolutely LOVE reading a book like this. It invokes just about every emotion you could think of. I started this book early this morning, and spent all day looking for ways to get away just so I could finish the book. It was that good. I just could. not. put. it. down.
This is the book of Allie and Mike. You remember them from Love Realized? Allie was Gillian's BFF and Mike was a date that Gillian had before she realized it was always Jake.... Anyways, Mike. What to say? He had lost his wife 8 years ago to breast cancer and this was, I believe, his first attempt at a serious relationship since her death. And he certainly did attempt it. Over and over and over. The poor guy just kept getting shot down repeatedly by Allie. But, he just kept on coming back for more. And Allie. She is a firecracker, that's for sure. She has built up quite a wall over the last 5 years, since her husband died in a car wreck. And no one has been able to break those walls down since. That is, until Mike comes along.
I have to say it again. I really loved this story. I feel drawn to, but at the same time hesitant of any thing that brings up or discusses breast cancer. I have such personal feelings with this, since my mother kicked it's a$$ 6 years ago. And my cousin is also battling it currently, so it really hit close to home, just the feelings of it. It makes me nervous when I read about someone who has died from it, since, even though I haven't lost anyone to BC, I see what very well, could happen. So, anyways, I got all sorts of emotions up in the air with this book, and not just from the breast cancer, but that really put my emotions on alert. Man, I wish I was better at explaining my feelings about how emotional it made me. I can tell you the very end of the book was EXACTLY, and I mean, EXACTLY how I wanted the book to end, since I read about this particular part in the book. I was waiting and waiting for it to happen. And it did. I as soon as I read it, I choked up. For reals. One of those that catches you and you don't even know it's coming kind of choked up feelings. And I had a few happy tears. All in all, such an emotional love story and a perfect ending as well.

Omg this book was about pure Love and Loss. How do you make yourself hole after your life is shattered into a million pieces? How can one night change a world forever? Well that is what Allie found out. The day a knock on her door changed her life and turned it up side down.
Allie is living her life after that dreaded night,but really she is only exsisting. She hasn't opened herself up to anyone. Even closed off to her family to a certain extent. She needs someone who is gonna knock down that wall she has put up around her heart. Someone who will fight for her because they know she's worth it. And that someone is Max.
Max has put himself in her life no matter if she likes it or not. He can't be pushed away that easy. He knows thought not to push Allie. He needs to do things at a snails pass so she doesn't freak out and run.
He's willing thought god is he ever willing. He know's what poor Allie is going threw after going threw a loss himself. But every loss is different. Loosing someone never gets any easier, The pain just gets different everyday. But never easier.
Max has not only put himself into her life but he also lives next door to her(no I swear he's not a stalker.....Kind of!) So Allie's everyday routine is to avoid him at all costs. Getting up early and coming home late. It may seem bitchy,and to be honest it kind of is. But she's in protect her heart mode. She didn't spend the last 5 years building this wall to have him tear it down(and her panties) with his sexy smile.
But you know the saying you can run but you can't hide. When you want something enough you will find it and you will stop at nothing until you do. Well that is Allie to Max. He's a big boy he won't give up easy. And with the help of her(his)friends he won't have to.
This story is very loving. But you will cry. This book deals with loss is many ways. And no matter if your prepared or if that person is took from you in the blink of an eye loosing someone is still loosing someone. Doesn't matter the 'whys' or the 'hows' the person is still gone. But I'd tell people to read this book for sure. Just don't say I didn't warn you when you get all sniffly :)

Ok - someone hand me the tissues. The prologue will get you........ dirty, ugly, eye-puffy the next day CRY! You met Allie in Book 1 - Love Realized. You knew that her husband Marc had died. You knew that she had a rough time. You knew that she couldn't talk about it. BUT NOW YOU KNOW WHY!!!! Oh my.........I could barely read my kindle through the tears. That poor girl, no wonder she is so resistant to finding love again. Who wouldn't be.
And then, as if Allie's story wasn't heartbreaking enough, you hear Mike's story....you feel his pain (damn it, hand me another tissue -- so much for mascara!) you feel the hurt that he and Zane went through.....These poor people, I am so happy that they find each other.
It's a tough road for Allie - she resists love the whole time, fights it, ignores it. She thinks she doesn't deserve love again. Thank GOD Mike is not a quitter!! He knows she's the one for him. She's his "treasure" and just needs to get her to realize it. There's a certain scene in a truck that is unforgettable!! HOLY CRAP!!! (I needed a tissue to wipe the sweat from my brow!)
You get to keep in touch with the rest of the gang. Jake and Gillian (sigh.......) are just the sweetest couple. And as much as I hate to admit this out loud (or in this case, typed). I actually, ALMOST, had a moment where I ALMOST liked Logan. I know, you are totally disgusted with me right now, but just wait...you'll see.
If you love a great romance story (with some hot steamy sex) then THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!!

First of all *shakes my fist* Melanie you made me cry, ALOT!! (That's not cool baby, not cool!!!)
Anyone who read Gillian and Jake's book knew how hilarious Allie was. We also knew her pain and heart break. We also met Mike and fell in love with his awesome alpha male-ness. He is totally smitten by Allie and will do anything to just get a chance. Well one of the best scenes is the karaoke scene...tears were cresting my eye lids. I loved Mike epicly at that point. Allie is such a hard nut to crack but Mike will not give up. Allie is so guilty over the fact she feels she killed her beloved husband Marc. She is carrying all this guilt. *Sigh* Allie Allie Allie.......When the
POV flips and we hear about Mike....omg...i wanted to crawl in his lap and cuddle with him. The scene when Mike and allie discuss how "lucky" he was with his wife's death. I cringed for Allie and wept for Mike....remember i balwed alot in the freaking book!!! Their love story is one that will defo be stuck in my mind for a long time. Melanie paints a great picture and a true to life struggle that people have to deal with.
I loved the set up for the next book (Jason...RAWR) and how he and Allie banter off each other. I also loved meeting Mike's family and seeing how important family is to him since we know how important it is to Allie. Ok and I loved seeing Jake (wipes drool) and Gillians love story continuing. The birth of the daughter is pretty awesome and it kinda completed their perfect HEA from the first book.

I loved book one in the Real Love series and have been waiting for book 2 to come out so I could devour it too. I was blown away by Love Realized swept away by Love Resisted. I can’t wait to read more by this amazing author. I knew from meeting the both Allie and Mike in Love Realized that Love Resisted was going to grab me and not let me go. It had me up all night to finish it while laughing and crying along with it. If you want to read an all-around great love story please read this series. I can see it getting better and better as we go along this journey

Fantastic! Melanie has given use another emotional and super story. I was drawn in from the first words. I felt like a part of the group. I cried and laughed with each character. Can't wait to read more in this series. Thanks Melanie for your awesome work!

So here we are, Book 2 of the Real Love Series. Before I go any further, you really need to read Book 1, Love Realized before you start Resisted. Getting the feel for all the character is a must. Love Realized is one of my favorites, and when I heard Melanie was writing her next book about Allie and Mike, I could NOT wait and was highly anticipating the release. And because I read and LOVED the first book, I am already emotionally attached to all of the characters.
This series for me, is just so different from others. I love that the characters are all in their 30s; who is married with kids, who is divorced, widowed. etc. It just about real life. It's a serious story and gets you from the prologue.
I tried NOT to count how many times I was going to cry. But low and behold, there I was, finishing up the prologue, tears running down my cheeks. Yep. Great opener. Fucking tears you up from the second you start reading.
We start with Allie Baxter. She was one of my favorite characters in Book 1. She's funny, and loud, and outspoken, and has no filter. Perfect!! This chick is great!! Little do you know this fun loving woman is hurting on the inside.
She loses her husband, the love of her life, hence the tears. And of course in Melanie fashion, she writes a damn right emotional scene. Allie is just a mess, closed off, heart broken. And now its been 5 years after her loss, and she is still closed off, walls up and not dating. But Allie has an amazing support system. Her best friend Gillian, and her husband Jake, her brother Logan, good friend Jason, and a bunch of nieces of nephews to keep your mind busy and your heart full.
That's all great, but if you don't have anybody to share that with....and her friends and family are afraid she is wasting away, and all of her potential to love again....BUT....in comes Mike Lawson.
Mike Lawson is her insanely hot neighbor; McHottness! Mike definitely has the HOTS for Allie, and she knows it. He just down right flirts with her. Its freaking hysterical how hard he tries. He's relentless. It's like he's attached to her. There is so much to love about Mike. He's not just the hot neighbor. He's the nice guy. He's the tender guy. He's the single father guy, who raised his son Zane alone for the past 8 years, now a widower having lost his wife to breast cancer.
And now he wants Allie.
And Allie just can't. She can NOT let love in again. Love hurts. She really tries everything she can do to keep Mike at arms length. But Mike is everywhere. Which I love because he puts himself out there and really wants to break her walls down.
What's great about Mike, is that his healing process is much more evolved. He's dealt with his grief, for his sons sake. He seems to be taking better to the healing process. Not Allie.
There is a moment in this book, it was a turning point for Mike and Allie. Can't say which scene. But let me tell you, its the second time I shed my tears. Mike and Allie share a moment where he helps her through something. And honesty, its not just the intensity of the scene, its the writing. Melanie nails this...
Each turn of their heads, and touch of the hand, and squeeze of the knee, and every tear that falls. For me, it was the most tender scene in the book. Thinking back now, I remember how I felt, my heart was tight. The story just got to me.
And thank god Mike is able to get some of those walls down, because now I am able to enjoy Allie. Let's see the real Allie, the fun side of her. Mike and Allie really have this electricity between them. Its fucking HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's HOT!!! She's HOT!!!
And Mike is just as fucking hot right back...and I tell ya, between these two, my eye balls were glued to my kindle.

They are great together. Mike is such a gentleman and just loves her to pieces. But Allie still struggles with her loss. She can NOT let him go, the love of her life. His memory lingers. My God, sometimes I just couldn't believe how emotional I had become reading this.
Melanie brings out this raw emotion to the story, very real feelings and with just words on a page brings it all to life. Breaks my fucking heart honestly.
Allie breaks my heart. She's battling her own emotions, afraid to jump.
The book just gets way to emotional from here on in. As engaging as it is, I kinda needed time to process it all. Allie is so broken. She loves this man, Mike, this wonderful man who puts her first above all things.
Mike is my hero in this book, he fights for his woman; always showing her the light at the end of the tunnel. Always saying the most beautiful things. Either trying to reassure Allie of how taking a chance on him and just trying is all worth it...or..by absolutely fucking her brains out...But the latter for me is the best parts....
The only way you will know how this story unfolds is just to buy it and read it. Hopefully not cry as much as I did. Truthfully, this book is such a wonderful love story. It touches your heart and is so memorable.
And the best part is, Book 3 comes out next with Jason's story. Jason is another HOTTIE in this book and this series just keeps getting better and better.

For most of the five years after the death of her husband, Allie Baxter had steered clear of her friends and family. Too raw and guilt-ridden to be faced with their unwavering love and support. But she is back home now and quickly absorbed back into the fold, keeping up her quick and ascerbic banter with her soul-sister Gillian and their circle of close friends, almost like old times. Except for the one new addition, Mike Lawson, Gilly's one-time date and Allie's new neighbour. Single father, funny, attentive, hot as hell and, oh yeah, widowed as well.
Mike Lawson had managed to make a good life with his son. Not that it had been that easy at first, but eight years allows for a decent amount of healing. Not since his wife had he been as interested in the opposite sex as he was in Allie Baxter though. Prickly and sarcastic most of the time, she was also gorgeous, loyal, funny and so much fun to mess with. Of course he was biased since he was pretty much in love with her, not that Allie was ready for that.
The fact that Mike was able to stir feelings in Allie that had been quietly dormant for five years, really pisses her off!! She isn't stupid, she knows Mike feels more than just friendship for her, but she is not ready to let go of her husband........or her guilt. But Allie can't deny that each time he is more and more difficult to resist. Damn her hormones for waking up!
Bit by bit, Mike sees cracks appearing in the walls that Allie so carefully has erected, and everytime he sees a new crack, he makes sure to wedge it open a little more. Not too much, he is patient. Just enough so he doesn't lose any carefully gained ground. He WILL have her, and she wants him too, he can tell. She just is not ready to admit it, but is getting there and when she finally lets him in, the reward will have been worth his patience. He knows it.

I am now so hooked on this author, this series, this group of characters, I couldn't bear to miss one book. So rich and diverse in personalities, compelling in context and with characters nicely fleshed out and completely and utterly human and fallible.
Melanie writes with a bite and humour to give an edge to the sometimes heavy substance tackled, without making light of the seriousness of the subject at hand. A humour that sits well with me, an edge of sarcasm and an ad lib quality that reminds me of the back and forth I enjoy with my (many) siblings.
Melanie's 'men', although diverse, have some qualities in common like a fierce protectiveness for their women-folk, which doesn't seem to interfere with their (good) sense of equality and their healthy respect. Smart men!! For the most part.... A man wouldn't be a man if his Neanderthal didn't make an appearance from time to time!
Melanie's 'women' are no shrinking violets, awaiting rescue. Instead, they are overall self-sufficient (sometimes overly so) and capable individuals who know how to be friends as well as lovers, and are not afraid to dole it out or take it as is necessary. But honestly, what woman doesn't ever have a little silly or emotional 'episode', right? Right!
I loved this book, and it's predecessor LOVE REALIZED, and will whole-heartedly recommend them. Simply very good books, no ifs, ands or buts.....

When you have a book that is well-written and has characters that make you care, you don't really need motorcycle gangs seeking revenge or vampires and fairies battling it to the end to make a book interesting.
Just like first book in this series Love Realized, Love Resisted is simply about two very real people dealing with real life issues. The hero, Mike, was introduced in Love Realized and even then you got the sense that he was a good guy. But it isn't until his story with Allie, that he really shines.
Allie, the heroine, has had a tough time getting over her husband's death partially because she feels its her fault. She had asked her husband to drive home after a meeting although he had originally been planning to stay at a hotel because he was feeling tired. Unfortunately, he fell asleep at the wheel and died in a car crash.
At the start of the book, Mike had become a part of Allie's group of friends and had been pursuing her to no avail; however, a conversation between them brings up the fact that Mike is a widower. He had lost his wife to cancer. That one commonality of both of them losing spouses was the first significant beginning of this relationship.
Slowly, but surely, Mike starts to help Allie open up her heart. One turning point happened at a party where a video was shown that included footage of Allie's husband. What he did there was a show of empathy that almost made me tear up.
Another turning point happened at a picnic that Mike orchestrated for their first date where Mike explained to Allie that what helped get him through was being able to talk about his wife openly and often. The more he talked, the easier it was and it became less painful as a result. It was then that he introduced something that he and his son, Zane, did after his wife's passing. It was done on a daily basis, both in memory as well as for a chance to express their feelings.
Throughout this story, Allie certainly didn't make it easy. Even in the first book, she was portrayed as having a fiery personality who sometimes spoke without thinking; yet, with no deliberate intent to hurt. There were times when she did act quite bitchy towards Mike. But her fear about loving again was enforced by the walls she built around herself for five years, so she definitely wasn't going down easy.
Yet, Mike kept on trying and for awhile, it looked like he broke through. Unfortunately, Allie put on the brakes and even then, he showed how much he cared by respecting her wishes and not trying to impose his will.
Eventually, with some eye-opening conversations previously from both Mike and eventually from her best friend, she finally was able to say Yes to Mike and to embrace her new future.

I received this book from the author for an honest review
This book was amazing. I was expecting the same Allie from Love Realized, oh so not the case. I did not believe those who told me get the Kleenex’s ready. Really fun loving carefree Allie, I mean I knew she had a hard time with her husband’s death but seriously a box of Kleenex. I can honestly say after just reading the Prologue and having to find that box of Kleenex YES you will need them. The prologue is not the only place you will need to have that box ready for either.
We all know in Love Realized Allie’s husband, Marc, dies but we don’t know how. All we know is it affected Allie hard to the point she moved away and had a hard time coming back. Well, it is all thrown at you in the prologue Kleenex people Kleenex you will need them. Allie is determined not to let anyone close to her heart again. That is until she meets Mike, who also lost his wife, and he is determined to tear down all the walls she has built up.
The emotions in this book were like no other. I loved how persistent Mike was at pursuing Allie, infiltrating her circle of friends and making friends with them. I wanted to shake Allie for being so bitchy toward Mike and trying to avoid his pursuit. One of my favorite scenes was when he won the bet between him and Allie by showing her that she was his “Treasure”…Priceless. Oh and if I could have seen Logan’s pouty face during all this would have been even better. Here is another Kleenex alert…the gut wrenching talk between Mike and Allie about how “lucky” he was to say goodbye to his wife. Man tore me to pieces, I wanted to jump in this book shove Allie aside and give Mike a hug. The day at the Padre’s game when Allie finally opened up a little and let Mike is was the best. I loved the fact that we get to see a little bit of everyone from Love Realized and also be there for Jake and Gilly’s daughter’s birth. Then to see the realization that Mike comes to after “ladybugs” birth, I got a little choked up over that. There are more things that happen and you will need Kleenex for but I not going to give you any more hints you will have to read and stumble across them like I did.
This is a must read. I laughed, cried, and at points thought oh no not again. I am now waiting for the next book….Jason *wiggles eyes*. Yes, I have had my eye on him since we first meet him in Love Realized.

I was beyond happy when I was asked if I wanted to review Love Resisted. I have been a huge fan of Melanie’s since the day I read Love Realized. I connected so much with that book and fell in love with the whole gang.
So, when I opened this one up and got to chapter one, I felt like I just came home from a long vacation and all my family were there waiting for me.
I love each and everyone of these characters!
No onto Allie & Mike....
Allie is that chick that you want in your corner. The girl who has a comeback for everything and makes you laugh when you need to laugh and is there for you when you need her. I love her spunky, take no shit, I am super bitch and you are all my side kicks, attitude. But, I also knew there was something dark inside her. A cloud that would block all her sunshine and I didn’t know what it was. Until now.
My heart broke for her in that moment. I saw her in a whole new light and I loved her even more. Even though she carried around all this pain and guilt inside her she was still the person everyone loved and called on when they needed her.
Mike came into the picture a little later in Love Realized. He was the first guy Gillian went out with after her split from Logan. He also met Allie during that time. I really liked Mike in that book.
I fell in love with Mike in this one. He’s not without his own pain but he lets the sun shine through the clouds. He wants Allie and he is determined to have her no matter what he must do to get her. Even if it means becoming part of a boy band on Karoke night at the local bar.
As time passes by Mike finally breaks Allie down enough to agree to give them a chance. Oh man, the chemistry between these two was combustible. However, you know it isn’t going to be easy sailing from there though.
“Love meant pain, and she knew she had to resist.”
Allie resists as much as she can, but can Mike break through all that and get Allie to break down all those walls that she has placed around her. Will she resist his love or embrace it?
You will have to read it to find out!!!
I absolutely loved this book just as much as I loved the first and I cannot wait to see who comes next and I get to re-visit these people again. Yes this is one of my favorite series and I HIGHLY recommend both books. They will pull you in and draw out your emotions.

Losing the love of your life can and will destroy you, I can only hope and pray that I never have to experience such a profound loss. This story will capture your heart and squeeze it tight as you go through the journey of two people that have loved and lost in two entirely different ways, but still lost all the same. Mike had to watch his love die slowly and Allie’s love was lost instantly. Allie continues to punish herself, feeling guilt and shame. Mike wants to be the man to show her that you can love again and be happy.
I love Allie, she is a smart-mouthed, quick-witted, very funny female that will tell you like it is. Don’t mess with her or she may just hurt you and everyone should be afraid. Mike, on the other hand, is such a love. I just want to hug him and not let go. He knows what he wants and he wants Allie. He is persistent and patient, smart and sexy with a drop dead smile. Really, how can any girl resist him? Allie sure as hell tries and it is fun, yet sweet and emotional, watching her trying to resist it, come to terms with it, and then accepting it.
There are a ton of supporting players in this story and that is one of my favorite things, not only did I feel the connection so strongly for Mike and Allie but I felt connected to everyone else. I found my mind wondering who will be next in the series. I hope it is Gigantor (Jason) because I have totally fallen in love with him. I think the story I want most is Logan, he was in the first book with Gillian and I love him and hate him at the same time. I want him to redeem himself and find happiness.
There are important messages within this story as well, which I thought is fabulous; breast cancer awareness is a fundamental part of this book. Its release coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it makes my heart happy when an author can give you some real with fantasy. Concept of story is huge for me and this one get a big fat 10 from me.
I really enjoyed this book, it made me laugh one minute and shed a few tears the next.

Love Resisted is the second book in Melanie Codina’s Real Love Series. This story follows Allie Baxter and Mike Lawson who had supporting roles in the series’ first installment, Love Realized.
Love Realized portrays Allie Baxter as an absolute firecracker who is fiercely protective of her friend, Gillian, and has no qualms about teaching someone manners with her fists if necessary. What I love about her character in Love Realized is getting to delve deeper into her past and the layers that make up Allie. Underneath her tough exterior, she is guarded and heartbroken after the unexpected loss of her husband. Being able to see her vulnerabilities throughout the story helped to round out her character and make me like her even more than I did in the first story.
Mike Lawson, who took Gillian on her first post-divorce date in Love Realized, is perfect for Allie. Like Allie, Mike lost his wife and is now raising his son on his own. He is patient yet stern and determined to prove he and Allie belong together. I love his commitment and devotion to helping Allie cope and move on from the skeletons in her past. It is also very charming, yes charming, the way he bosses her around and puts her in her place when needed. He’s no pushover.
As far as the story line goes, prepare yourself with a box of tissues. Melanie wastes no time delivering an emotional throat punch in the prologue. There was a lump in my throat and I was completely invested in the story within pages. Alternating between tears and laughter, I consumed this novel in a matter of hours. I fell in love with each character from Love Realized all over again. Yes, I was even semi-won over by Gillian’s ex-husband Logan. He hasn’t 100% redeemed his self, but he’s working on it.
I highly recommend giving Melanie Codina’s Real Love Series a chance. Love Realized reeled me in and Love Resisted kept me hooked. I cannot wait to find out which character will be featured in the third installment of the Real Love Series!

My Review:
We met Allie and Max in book #1 of this series, Love Realized.
In that book, I loved Allie....she's smart, sassy, and just fun. In this book, you find out that that is all a mask hiding a ton of hurt. Five years ago, Allie's world came crashing down when her husband died in a late-night car accident because he fell asleep at the wheel. He was only driving so late because Allie really wanted him home. She's buried herself in guilt and grief ever since.
Max also has depths that you don't get to see in the first book. His wife died eight years ago from breast cancer and he's raised his 18 yo son by himself ever since. Since her death, the entire family has become VERY active in breast cancer awareness and fundraising. Max is every bit of the good guy that we get to see in book #1. I loved his character.
The two characters are definitely grieving as they work through their first relationship after the deaths of their spouses which could turn incredibly sad, but the book stays upbeat and fun to read. A lot of that is because how Melanie Codina has written the series to revolve around this great group of friends. There is also tons of lightheartedness that comes through the kids....Allie's nephews and Max's smartass teenager. They provide some fun scenes too.
Overall in this book, the romance worked for me although I had a bit of a hard time with how long Allie pushed Max off. But what really makes this series outstanding is the entire group of friends and family and how they all interact with each other. I love those relationships and nothing is better than the scenes where everyone is together and giving each other a hard time. Max is new to the group, but he still fits right in and I love that. Even better, I'm thinking that the next book will be Jason's story...at least that's what I hope. I am definitely looking forward to it!

I was so excited to know that Allie would get her story after love realized. I instantly fell in love with her character. She was feisty and blunt. She loved those around her fiercely and protected the at all cost. She and Gillian were and still remain best friends. They have this crazy friendship that just seems to work. I wasn't sure how the story was going to go, I do know she was broken and I wasn't sure that she was going to give in to any advances especially Mikes even though it was evident if their connection. The persistence that man had made me root for him even more I couldn't wait until he broke down her barriers, I knew it was going to be explosive and just awesome.
I do understand what Allie was feeling but five years is a long time to be alone or afraid to love, I sure didn't want her to get stuck in a rut and be the crazy cat lady eventually. I loved the fact that her friends were rooting for her and Mike as much as I was, I knew thy were going to be exceptional. The couple to be envied.
I must say the story just got better and better. I laughed to myself at the epilogue not that it was funny but I was I guess letting my mind get the best if me thinking of where the story was going. I was squeeing but nice again Melanie got me I was totally off but it was still good, I know it will eventually happen. Maybe in Jason's book we will see it. Fingers crossed.
The story touches your heart. Two people who have love and lost. Two people who get a second chance at love.
I laughed, rooted, I may of gotten frustrated a bit at Allie, I swooned and may be I drooled a little over mike. my heart fluttered in my chest and it also sunk into my belly. I just loved everything. I loved the fact that we still got to read about all of the other character from love realized, I loved the craziness, and I adored Mike.

FIVE 'YOU'RE MY FUTURE' STARS!
This is the second book in the Real Love series by the talented Melanie Codina. Ms. Codina's writing style and exceptional ability to create believable, likeable and relatable characters has made me a fan of her work. She has a wonderful ability to tell a realistic love story that is so refreshing in its honesty.
This story is a beautiful second chance love story for the main characters, Allie Baxter and Mike Lawson, both of whom we met in the first book. Allie lost her dearly beloved husband in a tragic car accident 5 years before. She harbors much pain, and a great deal of misplaced guilt, over his death. No vampires, no high schoolers, but real 30-somethings with real lives and real emotions that play out in a true to life plot. With plenty of humor, pain, love and all consuming passion, this may be one of my all time favorite series. This author, after only two books, has completely blown me away. Well done, Ms. Codina!
This is the second book in the Real Love series by the talented Melanie Codina. Ms. Codina's writing style and exceptional ability to create believable, likeable and relatable characters has made me a fan of her work. She has a wonderful ability to tell a realistic love story that is so refreshing in its honesty.
This story is a beautiful second chance love story for the main characters, Allie Baxter and Mike Lawson, both of whom we met in the first book. Allie lost her dearly beloved husband in a tragic car accident 5 years before. She harbors much pain, and a great deal of misplaced guilt, over his death. The Real Love series just keeps getting better and better. This book, in particular, left me very emotional and vested in these characters. I can’t imagine having everything that you want one day and then the next day it is all gone. This is a book full of pain, sorrow, loss, regret, love and finding yourself again. It is an emotional rollercoaster. I cried, laughed and loved my way through Love Revisited, a truly amazing book.
Allie Baxter has everything she holds dear taken from her in a split second. She puts herself in an exile away from friends, family and the people who truly care about her for five years. Along comes Mike Lawson who brings up feelings that Alle had long ago buried. Their chemistry is instantaneous. Mike brings Allie back to life and to being the woman that she once was. He is exactly what she needs. Their love is sweet, sexy and true.
Let’s talk plot. The prologue gutted me, but it was beyond amazing. I swear the author had a direct link to my heartstrings. I would be laughing one minute and then the next minute I was sobbing. I loved this book not only for its stellar storyline but for its wonderful characters. Allie is fragile and strong at the same time. She has suffered so much. But it is such a joy to watch her come back to life with Mike’s love and tenderness. Mike, oh Mike. Such a hottie. He is a sexy oxymoron of strength and gentleness. He is not afraid of his feelings, despite having suffered pain and loss in his past, and this makes him so endearing. Love Realized is a book about second chances, finding yourself, forgiving yourself and finding true love. This book was beyond amazing and I would easily grant it 5 stars. Just be forewarned, you will need tissues.

We met sweet, broken, Allie in Love Realized. She was Logan’s little sister and Gillian’s best friend. Allie is a little firecracker, she’s stubborn, and she fights love every step of the way. We learned that she lost her husband 5 years ago, but now we find out what happens after she moves back home to be near her family.
Ah, Mike, we met him in the first book, too. He was Gillian’s first date after the divorce. I really like him, he’s sweet, honest, and doesn’t give up. Plus, he’s super sexy and totally hot. Never a bad thing!
Love Resisted picks up where Love Realized ended, with Johnathan’s graduation from high school. It also happens to be Zane’s (Mike’s son) graduation day so we get to meet Mike’s family and the fun begins.
The loving banter between Allie and her family in the first book continues in Love Resisted. Add to that Mike’s family, and we get a complete picture. I love how he continually chases after Allie, wearing her down until she finally relents or at least pays up for losing a bet.
We get to see lots more of Jake and Gillian in this follow-up and I love that couple! We also get to meet the newest member of the Michaels family. So sweet.

I loved Allie Baxter in Love Realized and was SUPER excited to read Love Resisted! I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
Oh Allie…how I missed you and your smart mouth and quick wit. What I wasn’t prepared for was the depth of her character and the struggles she has had in her life. I quickly found myself immersed in this story and Melanie developed her perfectly! Allie still made me laugh, but seeing a new side of her made me cry and want to shake her at the same time!
Mike Lawson, the awesome guy that Gillian tried to date, but Jake won that battle. I felt bad for Mike when it happened, but I now know why Melanie saved him for Allie. He is flipping amazing!!! Determined, funny and very charming. He is quite a catch, but Allie isn’t buying it until she realizes that they have a connection that will bring her to make learn to let go and move forward.
Both Allie and Mike have lost spouses early in life, to an accident and breast cancer. It really hit home for me as a breast cancer survivor. I was in awe of how Mike helped Allie understand her feelings. He was so patient with her even when she was running the other direction he was true to his heart and feelings for her and never gave up on her even when she was fighting against him. Both of their families have strong roles in their lives and it was great to see the families meld together so perfectly.
I was deeply touched with this beautiful book. It delivered in humor, love and even sorrow. My heart will forever hold a place for this story. I loved this book and I’m anxious for what Melanie has in store next…

Love Resisted, like Love Realized, made you feel so much >>>well done Melanie Codina!!!
I was laughing and crying and screaming mad at different times while reading this book...but I loved every second. I was thrilled to follow up on Jake and Gillian's relationship and was even more excited when I found out this book was centered around Allie, one of my favorite BFF's ever!! Clever and witty and yes somewhat bitchy, Allie has met her match in ultra sexy and sensitive Mike. Mike and his past mixed with Allie and hers could only make for an interesting relationship. Mike was quite the trooper dealing with all the obstacles that Allie threw his way. He is definitely one of the most likable book boyfriends ever !! The children in this book play a huge part of making this story real, who wouldn't love that cutie Hannah and Hooray for Jonathan and his new wheels!!! Zane being a mini Mike should have his own book because he will be making some young lady very happy one day. I am hoping to find out more about Jason and attend Gillian and Jake's wedding in the next book ...and maybe a Lil Ladybug of her own for Allie...hint hint!!!I am still mad at Logan so I need more time to deal with his happily ever after. Thank You Melanie Codina for a great read.

I really enjoyed this story...much like I did Love Realized (book 1 of this series). This books had the same dynamics as book 1 and I was happy to have a light love story to read that didn't have too much drama or angst...sometimes you just need a light happy book.
The characters are all best friends and "family", Allie who we first meet in book 1 is best friends with Gillian. Allie has suffered loss from the death of her husband (which you read about in book 1). Gillian WAS married to Allie's brother up until he was caught cheating in book 1......Anyway, this book is about Allie, and her dealing ---or not dealing with the death of her husband. It was a beautiful story of her fear of loving again as well as the guilt that is associated with moving on. And onto Mike Lawson (who you also meet in book 1)...he has also lost a spouse and he is intertwined in this group of friends. Mike has his eye on Allie and he really fights his own loss of his wife in trying to get with Allie. Ultimately, this was beautiful story of how two people who have lost love through death struggle to take the next step...together.
