After losing her parents in a brutal attack from a monster straight out of her nightmares, Gwendolyn Preston tries to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Along with her best friend, she moves to a small fishing village on the coast of Maine to find a new life away from the nightmares that haunt her. Just when she believes her life could go back to normal, the deliciously dark and handsome Markus Sullivan disrupts her hopes to grieve in peace. Markus drew the short straw when it came to being the liaison between his father, Ares—God of War—and his brothers. When he discovers that the earth bound demi-gods, known as the descendants, have banded together to start another rebellion against the gods, it becomes his number one priority to stop them. That is until he meets Gwen, the granddaughter of Aphrodite, and the next target of the descendants. Together, their path is rife with passion and danger. It might take more than the son of War to win this battle… Gwen herself.

I don't really have a lot to say about this one. I love paranormal romance and I have a huge soft spot for ANYTHING about dragons but this missed the mark for me pretty much all the way around.
The mythology could have been interesting but the relationships felt forced and even for a PNR with soul mates and mating bonds things happened so quickly between Gwen and Markus that I didn't find it even slightly believable. Especially considering how Gwen had good reason to be terrified of dragons and she broke into a panic attack every time she even thought about them yet 2 days after meeting Markus she's head over heels in love with him and not even slightly scared any more.
It also has far too many of the standard PNR tropes: group of brothers (literal rather than figurative in this case) living together and fighting evil, the butler who serves them, the group of females who see to the brother's every need (I believe they were nymphs but since I listened to the audio book it's not easy for me to double check). I'm sure there were others but I'm struggling to remember enough about the story to list them.
I don't think it helped that I didn't like the narrator of the story. To be fair I hardly ever listen to audio books so I may not be the best judge of narrators but this one didn't work for me at all.
The book seems to have pretty positive reviews but frankly I'm struggling to see what people have loved about it (unless this is their first attempt at reading a PNR in which case I'd probably have been more impressed too!). It's just like a very watered down version of my favourite vampire series but with dragons instead of vamps and it didn't hold my attention enough for me to carry on reading the series.
Favorite Lines "All females betrayed their lovers sooner or later.”
“That female was going to kill him before the week was up.” “I don’t understand the things I feel when I’m around you.” There. He said it. Studying her hands in her lap, she sagged into the sofa. “I’m starting to care for you more than I should. It scares me.”
“Yet, in order to keep her it had to be true love. Hell, he didn’t know what that was. Didn’t know if the feeling growing inside him for this female was love or just affection or even an obsession.”
“That dragon belonged to her. Somehow she knew it in the depths of her soul. The dragon was her protector, and the man was her lover and friend.”
Whew! Just when I think I can't find anymore amazing, sexy, yummy, and stubborn men to dream about I pick up another book and BAM I'M DREAMING ABOUT SEXY DRAGONS!! Gwen loses her parent to a murderous dragon and Marcus is the brother of the murderous dragon but what makes this even better is OMG he's her mate! They are descendants of the gods. Marcus and his brothers are the sons of war. The murderous dragon (Gary or Garrett) wants to go to war with the gods. In this book Marcus and Gwen come together while trying to defeat Gary! I'm dying to see what comes up next!! An amazing paranormal love story with everything I need to make it spectacular!!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Fated Publishing)
Not all is fair in Love and War. This is a new series by Lia - Sons of War. It is about the sons of Ares, God of War, who were sent to Earth to keep peace - watching over the descendants to prevent more wars. I really enjoyed this story. Sometimes books that are more fantasy are hard for me get started with or follow or I get distracted by the explanations needed at the beginning. But this did not happen with War's Passion. The author balanced the new information I needed to learn to understand about the gods and dragons with a plot. The plot got me hooked right away and I wanted to keep reading to know what would happen next! And now a bit about the story...
After watching her parents brutal death at the hands of a dragon, Gwen has had a hard time coping. She knows she is a descendant of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, and her best friend / adopted sister Elle is the granddaughter to Nyx, Goddess of Night, so the whole man turning to a dragon in her living room didn't make her crazy. But still she has had a hard time trusting people and dealing with panic attacks. After leaving a small town in Nebraska, she ends up in Maine and not with one dragon after her, but five dragons. Except these dragons are different. She doesn't fear them as she does the man who killed her father. She actually totally overcomes her fear, with lots of help from Elle and Markus and puts together a plan to avenge her parents death.
Favorite quotes: - She shouldn’t encourage him, shouldn’t be allowing him to kiss her, to touch her. He was a dragon, the son of Ares, and dangerous. Yet, she wanted more of him. No, she craved more. It was crazy. They just met. - Man, she was a mess when it came to Markus. She was also in jeopardy of losing her heart to the man, or having it broken into a billion pieces. - she couldn’t let her fears rule her. It was time she grew a backbone and stood up to the monsters. - It wasn’t good when love and war came together to visit. - Why the hell did he have to be so complicated? One minute he was charming, the next he withdrew behind his internal walls. - And nothing, or no one, was going to get in his way of having what he wanted. - “Love, you’re a goddess. You were never normal.” - "It’s not going to be easy. I’ll push you to your breaking point to prepare you." - I’ll deal with you later. In my bed. Gwen met Markus’s gaze as he spoke those words telepathically. Heat spread through her like wildfire. Biting her lower lip, she thought back to him, I look forward to it.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:
War's Passion was my first foray into the lovely imagination of Lia Davis, and what a great place to start. A family of dragon shifters descended rom Ares' dragon a la the legend of the Spartoi, Demi-gods & goddesses descended from Artemis, Aphrodite, Nyx, the Fates & more, a lovely open society world in a quaint seaside town, a surprising twist, an antagonist with tension (also a family member) and some red hot passion.
Trying to get away from destructive events of her past, Gwen (our heroine) moves to a small town in Maine with her best friend and adopted sister. Unbeknownst to her, however, Markus (our hero) and his brothers - the same types of creatures that haunt her nightmares - live there as well, and their fates are inexorably intertwined.
As the brothers try to stop their rogue brother and his band of misfits from starting a war with the gods and protect Gwen, her sister and the other Descendants from being tools in Garrick's nefarious plot, we get a wonderfully paced and fresh new paranormal romance in a fantastic new world full of myth and magic
I'm really looking forward to Ty and Ash's book in book #2.
**I normally wouldn't do this, but I feel it unfair to the readers not to mention it. There were a lot of editing issues in the book (I purchased the Kindle copy from Amazon). The story was really, very good, but you do need to try and ignore the misused words, missing words, etc throughout the book and just concentrate on the tale.
Here be Dragons. There is just something fascinating about mythical creatures like unicorns, mermaids, and dragons. They capture our imagination so much that we have stories through out history and span the scope of humanity on different sides of the globe with slight variations on the main theme. Dragons are an integral part of our knowledge base and yet often they are seen as destructive creatures with a penchant for collecting and hoarding gold. And this archetype has served us well but I’m thrilled to see another spin on this amazing mythical creature which we see aptly portrayed in War’s Passion.
Ms. Davis has given us a world rich with so much to take in from the environment off the coast of Maine with its spectacular and lush surroundings to the mythical and Greek creatures that appear in this book. After reading this book for a second time this morning I have an overwhelming desire to go research Greek creatures to try and figure out what possible creatures might appear in the rest of this series but instead I sit and write my review as a good reviewer should. Sigh.
Take a ride on the back of a black and blue dragon and fly into War's Passion. You'll see the world as you've never seen it before, dip and spin until your stomach roils and then light gently on a secluded romantic beach. See my full review at http://wp.me/p38Iym-23I March 4
Since I have read this author before and know she can certainly write paranormal very well I was intrigued that she was now writing a new series-one featuring dragons. I must say dragon shifters are one of my favorite in the paranormal, the passion they contain and to be wrapped fully by one would definitely be divine. I have come to realize also that when as a reader you come to expect certain novels from authors we the reader can probably sometimes get that author stuck in a cast so to speak expecting the same stories. I could be wrong but it is novel then for that writer to venture out on a new one hoping it will be just as well received. This author has that ability to deliver different and new series that captivates us the readers especially with this one mixed with mythology also. Taking wonderful dragons and bringing them to life in a storyline she does that grabs you by neck right away. The ground work is laid out splendidly with Gwen and the night her parents are taken away from her with the terror left that follows her to the present. She also has best friend/adopted sister Elle who was not there that night but is still with her in the present day. They are also close too because they know they are different and feel more comfortable with each other. They go to see a house that Elle has chosen for them to buy together but it will be a project house. Help will be needed in this endeavor which happens to be near by. But when they meet with that help Elle knows right away that they are not mere mortal men but something else altogether, plus the basis of Gwen's terror. These two also though are not mere women either and meet up with these fine men they needed too. The descriptions we are given totally brings the dragon side to life for us the reader so scrumptiously leaving you breathless yourself. They realize right away thanks to Elle's sight they are dragons and very special indeed but not the evil that killed Gwen's parents. Markus has been asked to help Gwen which in turn means him and the others will also be helping Elle. They must protect them from being captured and used by Garrick for his own intent and purposes which is not good ones at all. Be lured forward with this intriguing drama filled with adventure brought to life by many colorful characters that you quickly eat up. Soar on the back of a dragon when Markus gives Gwen a ride, enjoy the building relationship between the two as they become one-mates that is. Meet the good guys and the not so good and ones you are not to sure of but like them none the less. Don't forget the heat of a dragon's passion that sears the soul oh my indeed. There is a war going on and the battle has begun and you get to be there from the beginning which in some cases in novels you get only the jests of what has happened.Learn the history of these Sons of War and why they they are so unique. Legends are also involved as if the norm to converse with them daily. My my though make sure you set the time aside because once you pick this up you will not let go until the last page but it is not the end. Received a arc for a honest review.
The first book in the Sons of War series is an intriguing and exciting paranormal romance featuring dragons and the Greek Gods that sends chill down the spine.
Trying to get away from the nightmares that haunt her, Gwendolyn Preston moves to a small fishing village on the coast of Maine with her best friend. But much to her surprise the deliciously dark and handsome Markus Sullivan disrupts her attempt at a normal life. Markus has discovered that the earth-bound descendants of the gods have banded together to start another rebellion against the gods and it becomes his number one priority to stop them. That is until he meets the next target of the descendants, Gwen- granddaughter of Aphrodite and together their path is rife with passion and danger.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seats with action, suspense and romance. The author brings the mythological to life with well written scenes, vivid imagery and enchanting characters that capture the imagination and keep the reader thoroughly engaged to the very end. Gwen is a traumatized young woman who captures the heart with her inner strength that finally shines through and Markus the reluctant leader of his brothers in this war against the descendant is so charming especially when he tries to hide his smiles and pretend he doesn’t have a heart. Together they make a wonderful couple and along with the great cast of gods, goddesses, and demi- gods ensure that the reader wants to know more.
The attraction between Markus and Gwen sizzles with passion from every page, but the romance will take a little work, Gwen has to overcome her nightmares and Markus believes that they will be dire consequences to his mating with Gwen.
The author has created a fantastic new world with her own version of the myths that brings for a refreshing change and a very interesting story line that I was totally captivated by from the very beginning. I love dragons and these take my breath away, I can’t wait to read more of this mesmerizing story and the spellbinding characters.

With the help of the other dragons, maybe some help from the gods and a great love, they may be able to stop the danger coming to them all.
This was a great story. Awesome characters, wonderful story line, and it leaves you wanting more. The books moves fast and keeps you interested straight through. Well worth the buy. An exciting series I can't wait to read more of.
I absolutely love books that the story deals with mixing Greek mythology and modern together. This book was a surprise, was not sure if the author would pull it off since most of what I have read from her so far was the Ashwood Falls series. If you love Greek mythology, Dragon shifters and magical creatures I would suggest giving this book a read, you won't be disappointed. I do look forward to the other brothers stories and I hope that she keep the momentum going forward. This was a story that I could not put my kindle down. It started sad but love how the heroine found her back bone and overcame her fears. Can't wait for the next story in the series to see what journey Lia takes us on. Try this book for those that love Greek Mythology mixed with modern day life, you won't be disappointed.
So I have read all of Lia Davis’ Ashwood Falls Series and fallen in love with her characters. I can’t get enough so I figured I would try her new series Sons of War. I haven’t really gotten into dragon shifters yet, but I’m so glad I tried this one out. The story was short and sweet. I loved that we get a sneak in to a couple of the other matings that will be coming up as well. I can’t wait for Ash and Ty’s story or for Zavier and Elle’s. I love both pairs.
There was action, smoking chemistry and a love that unfolded beautifully in War's Passion. Gwen was a strong heroine who had been through an emotional hell. She faces her demons and deals with the aftereffects of the attack on her parents. She doesn't give up and is ready to train to fight the bad guy immediately.
I loved this book and can't wait for Ashes of War. War's Passion leaves off with a great beginning to that book!
Love this new series, full of sexy dragons! Gwen is a descendent of the God of Love and has spent the last 14yrs running from her parents killer! Markus is one of the brothers of the Gods of War and is asked to protect Gwen. What happens when Gwen finds out what Markus and his brothers are? Can Gwen overcome her fears? Who can they trust and will Markus be able to keep her safe? I love the brothers already and can't wait for each of their stories!! I love all the mythology! Get this book and fall in love with Markus and Gwen, follow their journey and finding their true love!
Well what can i say a brand new series from one of my favourite authors. This is a start to a new series about dragon shifters falling in love. The story centers around Gwen and Markus falling in love but in the process we also find out another 2 possible love stories :-) . Brilliant start and i cant wait for more would highly recomend this to any paranormal romance fans
Great story for a great new series by Lia Davis! A new twist on Greek mythology. I enjoyed getting to know the Sullivan brothers and Gwen and Danielle. Looking forward to reading the second installment in this new series.
I’m really into mythology as well mystical fantasy stuff so when I read the description for War’s Passion, I just had to give it a read.
First off I’m not quite sure why the book was named what it was. The book is not about War’s Passion but War’s, Ares’, dragon son and his mate. That threw me off a bit. I feel the title of a book should give me some idea as to what the story is about, which in this case, it didn’t.
Secondly, while I loved how it included lots about Greek mythology and the Gods, it was a bit too cheesy and dramatic for my tastes. The main character Gwen was rather whiny and a complete pushover. Even during the times it seemed as though she was standing her ground or putting her foot down, she still came across as shaky and weak. I mean come on! Would you let some dude FORCE you to have to stay and sleep in his bedroom when you didn’t even know him and were somewhat fearful of him?? I sure as hell wouldn’t! She also had a tendency to cry quite often and ran away consistently instead of dealing with the issues at hand. And don’t get me started on how she wanted to blame all kinds of people for the death of her father, especially Aphrodite her G-ma, who didn’t step in to save him in the beginning of the book because she was saving Gwen’s ass! There was a comment made in part of the book that she had studied along side her father in mythology so she knew all the stories of the Gods. So if that were true, would she not have known that the Gods/Goddesses couldn’t interfere or have direct contact with their children?? Too much of the story had holes in it and things that didn’t seem to line up with other pieces of the story to me.
Markus, the hero of the book, wasn’t too bad I guess. Though I do wish the story would have actually built more up them being mates instead of just be all like, ‘Oh they’re in love now…..no rhyme of reason to it cause it just IS!’. I personally don’t buy into that mess. Give me more than just ‘they are fated’, given that both Gwen and Markus seemed like complete opposites and not meant to be together based on their interactions. The only thing they remotely connected on was sex, which was far and in between. And even then that is not enough to build an eternal bond on!
I’m still debating on whether or not I am going to give book number two a try. It has to do with Ashlynn, daughter of Artemis goddess of the hunt, and the scared up dragon Ty. I was intrigued by both character’s personalities and how they acted around each other but if the story doesn’t build and follows the first one ‘s feeling of falling flat, then I will be extremely disappointed.
War's Passion is book one in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis.
This is my first time reading Lia Davis and I have to say I enjoyed War's Passion enough to go out and pick up book two Ashes of War. The author delivers an interesting spin on mythology, Demi-gods & goddesses, the Fates, and much more. I enjoyed the world building and concept created to weave an intricate tail.
We are given lots of information, but in a way that you don't feel bogged done with to much at once. The story moves along quickly. The romance is an insta-attraction, once the leads meet. Markus knows right away once laying eyes on Gwendolyn what she is to him. Gwendolyn doesn't understand yet why she is drawn to him, the same type of creature that caused her parents deaths.
Markus I enjoyed. He's got the whole Alpha Male Leader vibe going for him, plus he's a sexy dragon. I'm a sucker for dragons. I have to say I wasn't very impressed with Gwen. She is running away and always scared. She's wimpy, but does get herself together by the end.
Gwen and Markus relationship felt forced. The believability wasn't their for me. Even with the soul mate thing happening. I think this had to do with Gwen. She was lacking as a heroine for me, but also her dragon issues where over the top; with her going into a panic attack whenever she sees a dragon. So, for her to get over it and fall in love within 2 days with Markus, just wasn't believable.
I loved the secondary characters. All the brothers and of course the two lady's, one that is Gwen's sister and Ash who is a spy for the gods. The way the author weaves them into the story and also set's up two more potential mate hook ups, if they can figure everything out, was very much enjoyed. These secondary characters are what made me decide to continue and pick up the next book. I really want to see what happens with them.
War's Passion delivers lots of action, adventure, intriguing characters, and sexy dragon brothers. This was a good read and a nice start to the series.
War's Passion the first book in a brand new series Sons Of War by Lia Davis. It has dragons, Gods, Goddesses, myths and lots of hot passion. It was fascinating, hot and exciting new paranormal romance that leaves you breathless and anxious for the next one.
Gwendolyn Preston witnessed her parents brutal murder by a dragon that was after her. She moves to the coast of Maine along with her best friend Elle. Gwen has panic attacks and tries to overcome her fear but it isn't easy especially when there are other dragons in the same area. She couldn't let her fears rule her. It was time she grew a backbone and stood up to the monsters. But Gwen is drawn to one dragon,Markus, she knows she should stay away from him but she wants him. She shouldn't encourage him, shouldn't be allowing him to kiss her, to touch her. He was a dragon, the son of Ares, and dangerous. Yet, she wanted more of him. No, she craved more. It was crazy. They just met. Markus and his brothers are the sons of Ares, God of War and they are sent to earth to prevent more wars from the descendants. It is Markus priority to stop the descendants that are banding together. That is until he meets Gwen and he knows she is his mate. And nothing, or no one, was going to get in his way of having what he wanted. They are sizzling hot. I’ll deal with you later. In my bed. Gwen met Markus’s gaze as he spoke those words telepathically. Heat spread through her like wildfire. Biting her lower lip, she thought back to him, I look forward to it Markus and Gwen work together to bring down the enemy, and they are also fighting for the future they can have together because Markus is claiming his true mate.
This new series is HOT and exciting. I am really looking forward to Ashes of War, Ashlyn and Ty's book.
I'm quickly learning that my soft shifter spot is dragons. I ADORE dragon shifters. I can't seem to get enough of them, but yet there doesn't seem to be enough books with them as the universe and that makes me a sad cat.
Then this pops up in my inbox as a review option! I was thrilled. I had gotten a taste of Lia from her other shifter series about a year ago I would say. I was worried how she would handle dragons. I am happy to say that Ms. Davis handled her dragon world VERY well.
With a unique fresh spin on Dragons I was totally sucked into the universe that Davis was creating for the reader. I feel hard and fast for each character in the book and boy oh boy do I want me some more dragons and soon!
I'm jumping ahead.
First there is Marcus. The main Alpha shifter in this book! He was hot, he was raw, he was so very dominant and I loved that. He managed to handle out sweet Gwen with just the right amount of kid gloves to open up her shelf. See, Gwen is damaged, I call it PTSD based on watching her parents being burned alive by the baddie. The baddie, oh yes the baddie. Some people say Gwen harped on her anxiety. I think it was just perfectly. People don't just grow out of trauma in two seconds just because a hottie dragon shifter shows up in your life, especially when it is DRAGONS that are you anxiety!
Davis handled Gwen as a character perfect! Literally, you watch her evolve and grow in just the proper pacing that made my heart break for her and I was also routing for her at the same time.
I can't wait for the second installment in this series!
*I received a FREE copy from Fated Desires Publishing in exchange for an honest review*
Markus he's the bossman and well that kinda got me going (winks) "Ty grunted and stepped aside. Markus sat behind a large cherry oak desk. Drake was perched across from him with a tablet in his hand. The men swiveled their gazes to her at the same time. Without meaning to, she took a step back. Light blue rippled through Markus's dark irises, making her pulse spike. Damn it. Shed needed to get over her fear. Markus leaned back in his chair. "Leave us." And don't even bother to think about interrupting Gwen and Markus, that boy hates interruptions especially when it's one on one time with his girl, "a crash from the foyer made him break the kiss. With a deep growl, he released Gwen's waist, grabbed her hand, and tugged her to the study door. He yanked it open and froze." I mean I know this book was about Markus and Gwen but honestly I can't wait for Ty and Ash's book because let's just say I fell in love with those two: "I hope you didn't taint my room with your scent female." Ash held in her moan and closed her eyes. "What if I did, dragon?" A low growl rumbled at her back. "I'd be forced to hunt you down." He leaned in to whisper, his lips barely brushing her ear. "And eff you until you screamed." Oh yeah their story is going to be a wild ride!
Gwen has a hard time believing not all dragons are bad. Especially after her parents. Getting away and starting over is suppose to help. So Elle, her sister, and her move to costal town in Maine. Gwen is hoping life will be "normal". Until she meets the carpenters that are suppose to help restore their place. Then she gets a shock of her life.
The carpenters are brothers Seth and Ty. Their other brothers are Markus, Drake and Zavier. And they are dragons.
Gwen finds out about her true self when danger comes knocking back at their door. Markus moves the girls into his house for protection. He has to face facts of a different nature about Gwen.
Will they be able to overcome all that is being thrown at them?
I enjoyed reading this story. I have read Lia Davis books in the past and I was looking forward to reading a new one. This was different form what I normally read. Now I cannot wait for more and I hope there will be more in this series. This story goes in a different direction than most stories are going now days. I love that. Reading about gods and their earth-bound offspring was a great change. One that I am glad that I did.
What a good read! Now if you think, you are going to get hot scenes every other chapter this is not the book for you. Now it has some but not as much as most shifter stories,
The characters are interesting and the storyline keeps you engaged. I like all that mythical God stuff and it is full of that. Gwen is wimpy at first, but she has been through a great deal, but she gets herself together and turns out to be a woman who knows what she wants. Markus is the leader of the dragons and he is typical alpha male, but nice.
There is lots of adventure and lots of side characters to write books about. All the dragon brothers sound interesting and I am sure will make good stories in the future.
I have read all of Lia's Ashwood Falls series so I thought I would give this one a try. I was not disappointed I loved Markus and Gwen's story t is just what I would have expected from Lia. My only disappointment was when it ended but lucky there are four more brothers to keep those books coming. I can't wait to read Ty and Ash's book next. Congratulations Lia Davis on a remarkable book and keep them coming.
I have never read dragon books before ,did not think i would enjoy them but Lia Davis changed my mind. I have read other books by this author and really enjoy them so i decided to give this series a try. This story had me hooked from first page to the last. Very well written, pulled me in with the greek mythology. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I do love me some dragons, although this is a different take on dragons than I am used to. Interesting use of mythology (which I also love). I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series when I comes out.
