About the author

Ann Mayburn

95 books1,974 followers
Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead(though she will deny to her children that it ever happened).

From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.

*** Copy kindly provided by the publisher Barclay Publicity, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. ***

I have read this author’s “Exquisite Redemption” about a month ago and I really loved it. So when I saw this title appear on NetGalley I immediately clicked it. After I finished reading I noticed on my Kindle that I already had this book :)

Gia has been trained by a Dom and Domme. Now she participates in a submissive auction after which she will serve a Dom for 1 week. When she meets scary, hot Ivan she feels an immediate attraction and feels safe with him right from the start. One of her fantasies is being kidnapped but when Ivan tries to make this fantasy come true, Gia thinks she’s really being held captive. When will she find out? What will she do with the feelings she has for Ivan? Can he convince her to give him more time? You’ll read all of this in the book!

Something that doesn’t really work for me, in other books and this one too, is the insta-love. Within 2 weeks they are in love. I would also have loved an epilogue because the ending was to abrupt for me...

I liked the concept of this book and really felt the attraction between Gia and Ivan. There were some really hot scenes in the book. This book gets 3.5 stars!

Meh. I wanted intensity and some BDSM elements that helped get me there. The plot sounded intruguing...submissives up for a charity auction, one week of belonging to a stranger (with the chance to opt out if they want) and a D/s that are just too attracted to keep their emotions out of the equation.

What I got was a cheesy, too fast paced B movie full of corny lines and shallow sex scenes based on stereotypical BDSM scenes...spanking, sharing, withholding the big 'O', etc. There didn't seem to be much tailor made for this sub. There was a bit of a story, but I skimmed a lot of the middle. By seventy pages or so, there were already so many redundant sex scenes that they were no longer exciting.

There is girl on girl...on girl. Nothing too explicit (for erotica) but still...ew. Vaginas are gross, m'kay?

I may be spoiled with my friend's recommendations with regards to this genre. Megan Hart, Joey W. Hill, even some of Cherise Sinclair do it so much better than this. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Full disclosure: I have met Ann Mayburn in real life and she is just as nice a person as you could hope to know. I’ve read most of her backlist and consider myself a big fan.

“Ivan’s Captive Submissive” is the first in the new “Submissive’s Wish” series by Ann Mayburn and if this story is any indication, readers who love BDSM romance are in for a real treat. Submissive auctions aren’t a new idea, but the details of how the Submissive’s Wish Charity Auction works puts a new twist on the tried and true setup by adding a philanthropic facet to the outcome. Each submissive is still “sold” for outrageous sums to thoroughly vetted Masters and Mistresses, but the bulk of the money goes to the submissive’s charity of choice, with a fractional remainder paid out to the submissive once the week of service has been completed.

Gia Lopez has worked hard for the small measure of success she’s earned in spite of her humble beginnings and family heartbreak. Being able to raise a huge amount of money for herself and her local pet shelter while getting a week with a real live Master seems like the opportunity of a lifetime for her. She has been carefully trained as a submissive by a skilled married couple but this would be her first real world experience serving her own Master. But would anyone actually bid on a newly trained submissive with a wicked temper and a desire for forced seduction?

Ivan is the mysterious and handsome Dom who wins Gia’s service for a week with an extraordinarily large bid. As we eventually learn, Ivan can easily afford that and anything else Gia might desire, including an elaborate staging of what Gia believes is a real kidnapping but is really just Ivan’s attempt to give her the fantasy she’d said she really wanted. Can any true relationship, even a D/s one, really be forged out of such a traumatic beginning? Or is Gia fooling herself that Ivan thinks of her as something more than a temporary amusement?

One of the things Ann Mayburn does best is write a scene between a Dom/me and a submissive that is both incendiary and intense. Even when Ivan is pretending to be Gia’s kidnapper instead of the Master who bought her, he is still a fascinating and irresistible character, one that any woman would want to dominate her if she were so inclined. GIa’s mind may insist at first that she’s just experiencing Stockholm Syndrome but her body is completely on board for wherever this ride will take her. Ivan and Gia’s intimate scenes together only become more impassioned after the kidnapping ruse is abandoned and they start forming a more tender bond with one another. This emotional bonding between the hero and heroine is what I’ve come to expect as a regular reader of Ann Mayburn’s books and “Ivan’s Captive Submissive” did not disappoint in that category.

There were, however, a few issues I had with the story that were troubling enough to keep me from giving it a higher rating. The main problem I had was with Gia herself. We’re told that she has a quick temper and we definitely see that excitability in play several times throughout the book. High spirits are one thing, but for me it seemed that she was always looking for something to be offended or angry about. While that worked well in a remarkable scene where she lays direct claim to Ivan in front of other submissives who would dare attempt to touch him in front of her, Gia’s tendency to snap was especially problematic for me in the penultimate scene of the book.

(Spoiler removed - view full review at The Romance Evangelist)

I was also concerned that Gia really didn’t know very much about Ivan at all, other than that he was incredibly wealthy and had an overly large extended family all living in the immediate Moscow area. We the readers are told that Ivan has family connections with both the Russian underworld and spy agencies, but it wasn’t until nearly the end of the book before Gia indicates that she knows his last name. Gia’s worries about committing herself to this man are more than understandable and I was relieved that the book ended with a Happy For Now, because neither of them is quite ready for anything beyond that yet.

Those issues notwithstanding, I did enjoy reading “Ivan’s Captive Submissive” and will definitely be reading the next book in the series. Ann Mayburn always writes heroes that make me swoon and I can’t wait to meet the next winning bidder at the Submissive’s Wish Charity Auction.

Finding this one for free,i thought it was a good opportunity to see if it was any good.
The idea behind the story drew me in,but in total i was.....not convinced.
The intimate scenes were well written, but after a while,i found they were the main part of the story.

What bothered me,was the fact that Gia had a fantasy, and when Ivan gave her that, she panicked. Even though it was mentioned at the auction. She didn’t think he was doing his best to give her what she wanted,no...she thought it was real. She started to have feelings for him,but even though he obviously felt the same, she didn’t trust he’d stay. But then trusted him with knifeplay??? And there were other moments.....

I honestly don’t think i’ll be reading more of this series.

Welcome to the 28th annual "Submissive's Wish Charity Auction." The submissives up for auction tonight have been thoroughly tested and screened with extensive background checks done. They have provided us with their BDSM fantasy wishes, including any limits or restrictions, which we have included in the program for you to read and review. The winning bidder agrees to make said fantasies become reality for a one week period. I do want to remind you that 90% of the purchase price will go to charity with the remaining 10% to the submissive themselves so bid generosity Masters & Mistresses... Let the auction begin.

Ivan Ershov, a representative from the European BDSM delegation, has a fondness for role playing so when he views Gina Lopez's information and fantasies he decides she is to be his. Staging an elaborate capture fantasy scenario, Ivan sets in motion a week that Gina will never forget. But... will a week be enough time to fulfill ALL of her fantasies? And his?

Gina is a relatively new submissive in the BDSM lifestyle and can't believe her luck when she's chosen to participate in an exclusive BDSM Club's charity auction. She resolves to make her new Master proud and be on her best behavior. That is until she's kidnapped by his bodyguard who plans to keep her as HIS hostage and submissive until a hefty ransom is paid. Doesn't he know she's a hard working nobody who has no family to notice that she's missing? OK. Maybe after her week's vacation she might be missed but until then? If she has any hope to escape she'll have to do it on her own.

New series by an author who knows how to make her readers squirm. This story features a Russian Dom who likes to role play and has oodles and oodles of money at his disposable. He sets up an elaborate capture fantasy that in theory would have me over the moon thrilled to be a part of. Problem is that in this story said submissive doesn't realize her kidnapping is staged.

A major aspect of this read is of course the BDSM scenes. I kept wondering what type of warning label would be appropriate as things do get really down and dirty with a good dose of smutty smut. The good kind. The kind that has you glued to your e reader enjoying as scene after scene of panty changing toe curling fun plays out. There are m/f, m/f/f, and f/f scenes that do push the envelope, never crossing into the taboo but teases the reader regardless. Yummy!!

As to the story line itself. There is a natural flow to the story that pulled me in as a willing voyeur who supported and enjoyed the events as they played out. This isn't the white knight coming to the rescue of the damsel premise for sure. It's the dangerous Dom kidnaps damsel making her submit to all his carnal needs and desires regardless of her own insecurities and/or doubts. People all have baggage issues whether they choose to reveal them or not and all HEA endings can't happen in the course of a few days. Yet. When something is meant to be it will.
*vague and confusing thoughts aren't they. :D

Overall I enjoyed this book and am excited that it will transition into a series. There were secondary characters who I definitely would like to see have their own story so let the stalking for release dates begin.

4.5 RUSSIAN HOT STARS!!!

Gia Lopez decides to stop floundering in the BDSM world and signs up for the Submissive's Wish Charity Auction. She has no idea who has purchased her only that her Master's bodyguard, Ivan, has now kidnapped her before she could meet her Master for the week he has purchased. And here begins Gia's adventure. Abduction is on her fantasy list and Ivan, her real Master who has purchased her, plans on giving her everything on her list.
Ivan is a no nonsense uber alpha who is normally a player but somehow finds himself super attracted to his little American sub. Their chemistry is off the chart, not to mention the hot sex. Problem is he lives in Moscow and she lives in the US. What's a a Russian Dom to do to convince her to move halfway around the world....

This was totally hot and just a fun read. I loved Ivan's character and everything he did to Gia. He pushed her and his alpha caveman ways were off the chart. I think I could feel the testerone coming off the pages!!!!! Gia wasn't exactly a brat, but pretty damn close to it. Ivan had to make her submit and that's what made this enjoyable for me. She didn't just mindlessly obey... she gave as good as she could take.

Slave auction, kidnapping, dub-con, wealthy Russia-men, what more could a poor submissive ask for? Love... Gia is putting herself up for a kinky auction all for a good cause. *wink wink* The money goes to the charity of her choice, an animal shelter. Okay, I'm down with that and I think that is kind of awesome. Gia also gets 10% of the sale. That's not bad, a few hundred or maybe a couple of thousand for the sale, she'd get maybe $100. What she doesn't expect is 450K to purchase her. Dayum, that's 45K all in a week's work! Well, now she kind of feels like a prostitute, but at least a highly paid one. *snicker*

Okay, I couldn't take this story seriously. Ms. Mayburn is yanking my chain with this series. This is total glitterkink and following the trend of super rich men falling for honest, genuine poor girls. *rolls eyes* Gia is not really a poor helpless girl. She is a product of her environment. She is hardworking with an extended family even if her parents are deceased. The one I felt saddest for was actually Gia's mother. She sounds awesome.

Gia and Ivan's instalove/lust was cringe worthy. The BDSM is erotic fantasies come to life. This is a romance designed to be in the "Calgon take me away" fantasies.

Unrealistic but an uber-rich and powerful man who is a dominant. The luxuries Ivan has at his finger tips make me swoon. Would I want this for a bit? Hell yeah! What woman toiling away at work trying to pay her bills doesn't appreciate a little fantasy like this? Enjoyable to the last drop. Even the excesses visited upon Gia are pretty thrilling. The BDSM club, the clothing, jewelry, homes are all fantastic. My favourite was the jet. If only I could travel like that on all my flights. *sigh*

Recommended for romantic kinky readers who love rich male dominant characters.

Ivan's Captive Submissive is hot, hot hot! Keep a fire extinguisher next to you, cause your kindle is gonna sizzle!
I loved this story. Ivan was a wonderful domanant:caring and protective. I loved watching the hard-ass man fall for his little sub. Ivan was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but worked his ass off to make his own name in the world. Former Russian military, scarred, tough and a little rough on the outside. Ivan isn't looking for a relationship. He's happy with getting his "kink" on in the BDSM clubs with a new sub every week. But when he meets Gia, all bets are off.
Gia grew up hard. Her father dies when she was a child, her mother suffered from depression and she grew up in the "bad" part of town. But, she fought her way out of the gutter and while only making a modest income, she is a business professional and working her way to the top. But in the bedroom, Gia wants to give up control. She a a true submissive at heart, but has had terrible luck with men.
Gia is immediately attracted to Ivan, but a comedy of errors almost destroys there chance at happiness before it starts.
Ivan's Captive Submissive is my favorite type of BDSM novel, centering on domination, rather than pain. I loved the interaction between Gia and Ivan. THe secondary characters where great as well.
Gia may be Ivan's Captive Submissive, but she is the one who captures Ivan's heart.

Gia offers herself for sale at an auction for several reasons, she will raise money for an animal shelter she works at, she will earn enough for herself to put a deposit on a house but most importantly she will find someone who can finally help her reach her subspace. She has been trained by an experienced Dom and Domme and dabbled in the BDSM club scene but has never managed to reach that level of trust with anyone.

She is bought by Ivan and they fall in immediate insta-lust with each other. He proceeds to make all Gia's fantasies come true and decides that one week will not be enough so he persuades her to go back to Russia with him. She agrees to go for another week but has to return to work after that because she has no more vacation time left.

And that is basically it!! There are a lot of very hot sex scenes and at the end of two weeks they are in love and planning to get married, the end. I don't get it! I got the lust, that came through loud and clear but I'm having a hard time believing they were in love after such a short time together very little of which wasn't spent having sex. An epilogue may have helped me believe a little more but tbh I doubt it.

When I bought this book at ARe I was expecting a novel full of clichés, such as a rich, overbearing and cuddle-worthy alpha hero, a tough heroine, a lot of money, sexy and kinky love scenes, a nice kidnapping scenario and all together a great reading time. Unfortunately, this story turned out completely different and annoyed me quite a bit.

As already mentioned, I don't expect anything groundbreaking when I buy certain stories, but where BDSM sex scenes are concerned I at least expect them to be used to show me character growth. In this novel there was tons of sex, the hero and his epic erection stood attention morning, midday, afternoon, evening and night. I am sure he could give Viagra lections in standing power. The heroine multi-orgasmed non-stop, but there was no friction in the sex scenes. They were gratuitous with no growth between the characters to speak of. The heroine didn't get her limits pushed, there was no tension building and after a time it just became boring. What annoyed me to no end was the grand finale where after a week of boinking she asks for his hand in marriage. And of course everything works out, half a year they would live in Russia, half a year they would travel. Throw in some kiddy talk and your sappy ending is complete.

I don't mind talking about love after one heated week, but why marriage? Is this the 19th century? What happened to let's test drive this relationship a little before we tie the knot? What happened to a modicum of common sense? D-

Ann Mayburn is one of my favorite go to authors, because she writes solid, well constructed stories, hot sex scenes, and interesting characters. Unfortunately, this one just didn't work for me.

The story is female fantasy fodder for sure, with an uber rich, uber endowed, uber sized alpha hero, who just happens to have a sexy accent, and a poor but deserving female who hasn't caught anyone's eye until spied by our intrepid hero. I knew this going in, it's a fantasy I like reading occasionally, but I think this story went a bit too far over into the fantasy realm. I will say it has one of my favorite bits of alliteration ever. The hero's - er - endowment was described as an "epic erection". LOL - I really like that one. ;)

I wasn't drawn into the story, which seemed to meander down a path with several blind alleys. It felt as if there were too many plot points with too little development, so they kind of fell flat. I didn't dislike either Gia or Ivan, but I didn't particularly like them either. Again I don't think there was enough depth to them. I was particularly irritated by the on and off again love thing. Gia seemed rather clueless about actions that clearly stated Ivan was falling in love with her. Just when I thought that issue was settled it seemed to come up again, and again....

Ultimately, there just wasn't enough oomph in this one for me. Yes, I realize that is not a technical writing term, but when even the sex scenes are a bit ho hum, a lack of oomph seems as good an explanation as any.

3.25 RATING - I passed over reading this book several times because the author notes that it contains F/F situations. First, let me say that I greatly appreciate the author noting that in her description of the book. For most I'm sure, F/F isn't a deal-breaker and may be something that's enjoyed. Unfortunately, F/F is a hard limit for me. I consider myself a pretty open minded person but when it comes to reading, I don't want to read about two women together. Not for a scene, a page, or a paragraph. It's just a complete turn off (and sadly I have missed out on more than one good read in trying to avoid girl on girl).

Having said all that, I was in a complete book funk and the book was free so I caved and thought I'd give the book a try and just skip right over any part that make me feel uncomfortable. For some reason I assumed there would only be one scene that had two women interacting together. I was wrong. Figures.

Putting aside my hang up discussed above, the book was an okay read. Definitely sexy. I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually thought there could have been a bit more story and a little less sex. Still, overall I enjoyed it and was willing to read more in the series, until I checked the warnings and reviews on the the next three books. All listed F/F situations. Bummer. But once again, appreciate the author for including the info. I'm going to stop with the series right here and move on to things that better suit my taste. For others that don't feel the way I do about girl on girl interaction, I'd have no problem recommending this one as an erotic guilty pleasure read.

Gia signs up for the submissive's wish charity, the submissive chooses a charity, then the Dom or Dominatrix that bids for them gets to keep them for a week. The money that was bid goes to the subs charity.

I really hate to say this but I found this book a bit boring, the plot got lost amongst all the sex. I didn't dislike Gia or Ivan, but they didn't work well together for me. Gia was extremely immature, while Ivan was rather stereotypical of a Russian bad boy. Considering most of the book's content, the ending was too sappy IMO. This might have worked better as a novella as it felt overlong. It was a shame as I have previously read The Fighter's Secretary by this author which was top notch, and I expected this to be as good, unfortunately I was disappointed.

This is my first book by this author. A reading buddy recommended in one of the forums that we read this series. Imagine my surprise when I find out that I have books 1 and 2 on my kindle unread. I decided I would check this series out.

This is Ivan and Gia's story. Well what a pleasant surprise. Just like the couple made a connection with each I made a connection with them. Gia's looking for a Dom and she finds one in Ivan. I liked that apart from one big misunderstanding they were honest and open in their relationship and told each other their true feelings. You could feel the love coming through this story.

I really enjoyed it and I would highly recommend this book.

The h is gorgeous but for some reason, not at all confident even though she knows she is gorgeous. The H is a strong Dom, he sees he and wants her. They are role playing for 1 week, she's shared her preferred scenario which he wants to give her, she thinks she's really his captive. So low self esteem and not too smart, inspite of being an architect. For me the story got bogged down in too many steamy scenes, which just continued on an on - I got bored and skipped a lot of pages. It's steamy but bland.

This is a really tough call, this rating is more for the story than the audiobook. It really was not the right pairing. I do not even know how to rate the read, he isn't awful, just the wrong choice.

Oh my, this is a very, very, very naughty book!! Holy hawt and sweaty smexy time!! this is what most of the book is centered around. What did you expect she was bout at a submissive auction and this is the way she spends the week! Duh, you should not be disappointed by the steam. Hell yes, that is seriously a pantie dropping read!! Do not expect much down time, you will want to have B.O.B. handy, access to you fella or an ice bath at the ready! DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF READING THIS IN PUBLIC!!!

The story is thin, but not anorexic. It has a healthy dose of exposition here and there. Not a romance, per se, but not without feelings. I enjoyed getting into their heads and understanding more about the lifestyle and the overall draw.

This is a mixed narrative, going between the POV of the two leads. It puts many things in perspective. This also outlines exactly how differently men and women perceive situations. The whole "kidnapping" was way over blown by Gia, how did she seriously not know.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Edo De Angelis, who did the best he could. Here is where my major issues with this book crop up. When casting the voice of a narrator for you Russian character based novel, it is a very bad idea to go with a guy with a thick Latin accent. Do not get me wrong, his read is delicious, just not for this book. It is very off putting in the narrative and difficult to understand at first. Your ears get used to him, but it is still very wrong for the book. He does very well with the dialogue, slipping into terrific character accents. I wish he had been able to sustain it throughout the read for the narrative portions as well. I would love to hear him read some sexy Latin books, but not this Russian steamfest.

It is a coin toss if I will read or listen to the next book. I noticed it has the same narrator, which does not bode well. I did enjoy the smexy story, so I want to know what next, but I may just have to go with the ebook on this one.

Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own. I was under no obligation to post a review or give positive feedback.

*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! Gia is an architect who works hard and has very little social life. She has trained as a submissive and plays at her local club, but has never found the Dom who can get her into subspace and pleasure her the way she desires. She enters a Submissive's Wish Charity Auction, where the subs are bought by Doms who intend to fulfill the fantasies of the subs, and the money they spend purchasing the subs for a week goes to a charity of the submissive's choice. Gia is bought by Ivan, a Russian Dom who soon realizes that he is not going to be able to let Gia go at the end of their week together.

This book definitely had some interesting elements to the story in addition to the steamy sexy parts. Gia is a character who is easy to like and seeing her find some happiness was really rewarding. Ivan is a little too perfect to be taken seriously sometimes. He's a big commanding Dom who can look and act scary, but is always kind and gentle when it counts. He is a powerful man who has never found a woman to hold his interest beyond a few sexual encounters, until Gia. Gia tries to maintain a reasonable expectation for their relationship since they have grown close in such a very short period of time, but Ivan after a few days is ready to keep Gia with him forever.

I struggled with the narration a little bit at times. On the one hand, the narrator did a fantastic job with Ivan's voice. His Russian accent was deep, incredibly sexy, and perfect. His natural accent is Italian (I think), so I was taken out of the story at times when he would switch from the Italian accent to a slightly American accent for Gia, and then the perfect Russian accent for Ivan. Overall- the narration was good, and parts of the book were definitely enhanced by it.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a "fluffy" D/s story. 3.5 stars

I have to start by saying I have no idea why it took me so long to read this. This book was recommended to me in April and I immediately purchased it but for some reason never got to it, now here we are in November and I received another gentle push so finally read it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for breaking out the flogger and getting me back on track my dear friend.

Ivan wins Gia at a Submissive's Wish Charity Auction, this is an auction where the Submissive reveals her desires and if you want to fulfill them you bid on them. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, Gia likes Role Play and her deepest desire is a capture fantasy. Ivan of course wins her at the auction and he plans out this whole kidnapping scene and it goes over perfect...almost to perfect because Gia doesn't think it's her capture fantasy she thinks she's really being kidnapped. This was pretty funny when you think about it and it was extremely hot while you're reading it.

I love the way Ivan was with Gia, they had what would seem like a normal reaction to finding the one you are meant to be with. You are thrilled, but at the same time you are scared out of your mind. This book was so well written that everything seemed plausible, for instance, when your Dom tells you to Cum for him...seriously how many women can cum on demand? I'd say not many and that is what made this more realistic because when Ivan told Gia to cum it wasn't instantaneous, he had to work at it, it was more like he was just giving her permission to let go whenever she was ready. Totally Believable!

This was a great start to what I am sure is going to be an amazing series, and I look forward to reading Dimitri's Forbidden Submissive which is the next book in the Submissive’s Wish series

I am purring like a kitten, having finished this book. What an adventure, what an awesome build up, what a great pair of characters and oh-so-important to me, what a noticeable lack of ridiculous drama and an ideal portrayal of the way to deal with any hiccups that will inevitably come in every relationship.

I will not write a short summary of the plot this time, it is available in the book's description. What I will do is praise in abundance the balance of this book. It really has it all, in just the right amount. Hot sex? Sweet romance? Sincere agony? Erotic frustration? Soak-me-up-and-call-me-g-string melting dialogues? Yup, step right up folks. Ivan's got something for you all. Name your deepest, darkest fantasy, and he'll find a way to make it come true.

I adored the "internal monologues" that Gia had. For once in a book, I did not feel the lead heroine was an emotional mess, caught up in her own drama, or too in her head (though Ivan seems to think she is, and has the perfect remedy for it!). She had logical ideas, reactions and fears, and rationally processed them (most of the time - hard to focus when a savage European is ravaging your body and forbids you to come). I expected a little more clash of civilizations, but no matter, I still got quenched and hungered for more.

Last but not least, kudos to Ms. Mayburn for NOT taking this story where I could have sworn it would end up. That was a great surprise, and earned my respect and appreciation. I am sincerely looking forward for a sequel, because there are some extremely arousingly perverted fantasies in Gia's mind that I know Ivan cannot wait to fulfil... and I cannot wait to read all about it!

This is book one in the "Submissive’s Wish" series. This is the first book I have read from Ann Mayburn but it won't be my last. This was a really good book in story line, length (about 366 pages) and characters. This was not a rush to get to their love scene also it showed both couples thoughts and feelings.
Gia Lopez has signed herself up for a charity auction for Dom/submissive time with whoever 'buys' her for the week. This is the first time she has every done this auction and is a little scared but wants to give it a try.. and it is for a good cause. Ivan who is a Russian Dom wins her at the auction. Ivan know when he first sees her that she is something different and brings feels forward he has never had. Gia at first too is quickly drawn to Ivan but thinks at first he is not the one she is to be with for the week. So she tries fighting her feelings and her thoughts. Gia has had a hard life of disappointments by men and she saw how her mother took being in love and has sworn never to love a man. But once her feelings start to take over for Ivan she is finding it hard to fight them but fight them she will. Ivan too has never felt this way but he knows that she is something special and doesn't plan on letter her go. This starts their great love story!

If you are familiar with Ann Mayburn's writing, you already know she writes very addictive stories that have a sweetness to them, yet still manage to come close to melting your ereader because they have such heat in them. This book is no exception. Ivan is super hot with this romantic side that makes this story. While there were times I wanted to reach through the book and smack him, his heart was always in the right place and you can not help but like him. I loved watching the connection grow between Gia and Ivan and between Gia and some of the secondary characters. I really hope that Ann will tell some of their stories in the future.
While this story is not for everyone (read the content warning), if you like super hot romances with some kink, this is definitely worth checking out. I recommend not starting this if you only have 15 minutes before you need to be somewhere because you will not want to put it down and you will most likely be late.

Oh my... talk about a yummy story. I love the details, the heat and the flow through out the story. Add in the drama that goes into their relationship just made this story go to the top of the list.
Gia and Ivan's story is one that I know I will not forget.

Ivan wants to fulfill Gia's fantasies. And he does one hell of a job doing it. Causing drama and heat that just builds this story up. Gia is unsure of where this is going. She is scared of how she is feeling. Ivan knows what he wants and does not stop going after it. And its Gia in his life, forever.

ARC received for review

I was prepared to give this one five stars from the description. It has BDSM, a kidnapping fantasy, and a sexy Russian Dom. The story started off great with a "kidnapping" and lots of hot play time and tons of sex. Then about 60% I was thinking this was going to be a cliffy, but not there's a rushed ending and no epilogue. There were so many typos, missing words, and sentences that didn't make sense. Plus there were sequencing problems...she has in a gag and he was holding her hands down above her head, then she bits her lip and scratches his back.

I JUST finished reading this book and HAD to write a review ASAP! Can I just say WOW!!! Ivan is a hot, sexy, serious Russian that kidnaps Gia after a Submissive Wish Charity Auction. Gia is a beautiful architect who has a fiery side that brings out the dominant in Ivan. Tvan is the sweetest Dom I have ever read. This was a fantastic read and one I couldn't put down until I finished the last word. I can't wait until book two comes out!

I've read a lot of erotica, but I think this is the first time I've encountered an experienced sub who loves her life. Once past the starting trope, our heroine delights in being dominated, and yet doesn't give herself completely to her Dom. At least not right away.

The sex scenes were excellent, with lots of details and tingly bits. I know nothing of the lifestyle, but I hope it's a lot like this.

I'll be reading the next one.
