--- The Strange Case of Dr. Proper and Mr. Slut ---

Kyle promised himself that when he goes to college, things would change. He wouldn’t be the gay boy willing to hop into bed with any guy who wants to experiment. This was his life on the line after all. He would never find a proper boyfriend this way.

So Kyle did everything in his power to be angelic. He became the poster boy for acceptable gayness and the president of the LGBT club. But the side of him that wants to fulfill all those dirty, kinky fantasies is about to rear its ugly head when the LGBT club gets a new member.
Dan is the big, bad boyfriend-to-be Kyle always dreamed of, but will Dan still treat him seriously when he finds out about Kyle’s most secret fantasy? One that goes against everything Kyle stands for in real life.

“I’m just not the kind of guy who takes a leap off a cliff.”
“Yeah, I’m your cliff.”

This series might be one of my favorite eroticas with CNC.
I love how Dan switches from the role play persona to a sweet caring boyfriend, those tingles of fear and excitement, how they feel safe to express themselves with each other.

« He was torn between arousal and fear, because even though he knew logically, it was his boyfriend following him, his body still automatically responded to a huge guy launching himself at him. »

I don’t think this was my top fave of the series, but it was perfectly kinky and dirty, the right touch of sweet and full of promise for more filthiness.

The smell of sweat and cherry. The way his hands were tightly bound. The vulgar obscenities Dan snarled at him. Even the way Dan’s cock throbbed when buried deep inside Kyle’s ass. Perfection.

CW and tropes (spoilers):
- College setting
- CNC
- Role play
- Slapping
- Degradation kink (w/ use of slurs)
- Boot kink/boot licking
- Impact play
- Restraints
- wait, that’s not a dildo (spoiler, glass bottle)
- Strict top/bottom

Kat and Agnes Merikan are two authors I adore, they have a style of writing that totally belies all the warnings. You may think you are picking up a dark novel, with BDSM, humiliation, rape and non-con… and yes it is there, but Kyle and Dan are just two normal boys attending University and in their reality it’s a game, a sexual exploration and fantasy of their mutual inner most desires… don’t get me wrong, it is still DAMN HOT and these two ladies certainly excel at writing sex scenes but they also capture what is actually at the core of the relationship… trust and the ability to be honest with each other about a kink that to them is a sweet and intimate moment… they make the whole experience not about a perverse sexual act but about what’s in their hearts.

tumblr_m4zd5kdPgz1r6ek5qo1_500-1

This is the second book in the XXX’d series, however don’t let that put you off as this is actually the prequel to Clown’d and could easily be read as a stand alone.  After reading the first book in the series, I was really wanted to know more about Kyle and Dan, their relationship and of course all the kinky activities they got up to, so I was all kinds of happy when I saw the ladies had delivered exactly that … taking us back to when the boys first met at University.

Kyle is the president of the University LGBT group, outwardly he appears to be the poster boy of the gay community… inside, an internal battle wages, he is totally hung up on how the world see’s him, convinced if he lets his guard down for a moment that  the depraved individual who wants to be overpowered and humiliated in his sexual fantasies will somehow become glaringly obvious… and he is ashamed and paranoid  that his secret will be out.

Kyle is smart and funny, with a wicked sense of humour and this side of him becomes apparent when Dan appears on the scene as a new member to the group. The first half of this book concentrates on their relationship, but really I felt this was Kyle’s journey and Dan was there to support him through it, helping him lose his inhibitions and finally trust someone enough to be honest about his inner most desires and not only with Dan but also with himself, and to stop trying to be the strong person he is expected to be and finally allow himself to be what his body craves… weak and controlled. But all of this is only during play as the rest of the time they are just two normal boys free of the constraints they are bound by when living at home, finding their way in the world and exploring  the sexual fantasies that come with every young man full of raging hormones, although probably not all are as adventurous as Kyle and Dan!

The second half of the book is the scene, the fantasy played out and Oh. My. God!!! I will say it again, these ladies write some damn hot kinky sex!… and I thought the first book was hot!  My appetite is well and truly salivating and I want more… NOW!!!

Kat and Agnes have delivered a story that is emotional and romantic, intensely erotic, sprinkled with a light dusting of humour all blended together perfectly! They totally endeared me to Kyle, I loved him and I could empathise and understand the turmoil in his heart. The only thing lacking for me was a little more on Dan, but I am hoping our two lovely authors will be concentrating on him for the next book as I am dying to get a nosy at all the depraved and naughty kink that is kicking around in his head!

Now having the foundations to this series I just want more… and longer, yes, definitely longer… with more Dan, oh yes… lots more Dan!!!

This novella is separated into two parts.

The first part is Dan and Kyle meeting each other, while really hitting it off with a healthy dose of flirting. I thought they had good chemistry, and it was actually kind of sweet.
The gist of their personalities was that Kyle is super shy and insecure, while Dan is assertive and confident. It’s a dynamic I really like.

The second part kind of had me shook, though.
It’s a month later and it begins with Kyle and Dan doing some.. role-playing. I was sort of blind-sided by it, but decided to just go with it.
The role-play consisted of a non-consensual scene (which is a kink I actually don’t mind reading about), but also featured the ‘aggressor’ (fake rapist) being very homophobic, which wasn’t my thing at all.
Derogatory language and humiliation has never been something I enjoy, and this scene definitely wasn’t an exception to that. The whole thing in itself wasn’t particularly badly written, though. It just wasn’t necessarily for me.

The novella then ends with the two of them being all ‘cuddly’ again, which I suppose was nice after all that nastiness.
Although I have to say that I thought Dan didn’t treat Kyle super well in their last conversation about “being boyfriends”, so that once again pissed me off. It kind of ruined a little bit of the romance for me, because it made it seem like Dan didn’t care all that much about Kyle yet.

In conclusion, this was pretty well written and I think there is actually a great build-up and characterization for such a short novella. I do wish we didn’t skip a whole month in between the two parts, as I would have been interested to see their relationship grow.
Anyway, I could totally see people enjoy this (most of the time I did too), but I’m simply not sure if it was really the best fit for me.
I’ll probably still give the next one a try at some point though, mostly because I am interested to find out what it will be about.

I would have liked this more if they got rid of chapter one all together, and edited out some of chapter two.

What I think was so successful about Clown'd was that it opens in media res, and communicates a world of information about a marvellous, deeply-loving couple (one of my favourite couples ever), in the process of telling us about this one, single, incredibly hot scene.

Here, instead of taking the same approach, which would have worked brilliantly, there's some lengthy scene-setting and character introduction. This weakens the narrative considerably, and seems tacked on. I end up liking both MCs less, and frustrated at sentences like "Kyle had never had so much sex in his life as in the month following their first meeting at the LGBT club." This sentence suggests that the reader is not supposed to have read the entire unthrilling chapter we just plowed through describing said meeting, while at the same time stealing from us the 'first-time' story that would have been really nice.

There's weird structural stuff too, like a couple of paragraphs that describe Dan getting lost on his way to the LGBT meeting. What purpose do they serve in the narrative? (and remember, this is only 16,000 words total).

It's very confusing. The premise of the story is that this is when Dan and Kyle first met, and how Kyle came to have the courage to voice his filthy, kinky, delicious desires to his life-partner. And yet the story glosses right over that exact bit. We get the meeting and a painful walking-home scene, and then we get an awesome, rough, very deviant non-con scenario. And we get almost nothing of how the couple went from awkward to yum. So why frame the story this way?

Why not just give us the yum, if there was going to be no attempt to show us a growing closeness, depth, and honesty between them. Plus that missing first time. I'm very sad about that.

The actual non-con scene gets a four from me, the rest gets a 1 to 2

A "Live Your Life, Buy The Book" Review

Clown'd was the first book I read by this writing duo, and I liked it! I like them! Their stories are fun, funny, often charming and deliciously naughty! Downright sexy is a given! Rainbow Bash'd is no exception. It is the prequel to Clown'd and it deals with how Kyle met Dan. You do not have to read the books in order, but I love how your meeting of these guys in Book 1 is (obviously) fleshed out more in this installment - feelings and perceptions are compounded. I liked Dan before. Now? I bloody adore him!!

Kyle portrays himself as this perfectly good little gay boy - totally sanitized. He is President of the LGBT body at College and runs it as he lives his life... meet Dr.Proper. Having read Clown'd (and the blurb) you know that this is a facade - he hides all his desires and kinks, to the point of not even having a boyfriend... enter Dan, and hello Mr.Slut :-D

When Dan changes to this school and joins the LGBT group he meets Kyle, and the connection between them is instant and powerful. The walking home and goodnight kiss after the meeting was adorable! Doubly so! :-P  This is one of the things I love about Merikan, they can have such cute charm and then such a sexy, down and dirty BDSM scene.

Once Dan and Kyle meet, and talk, and walk, and kiss the next step is inevitable, and it is HAWT! I want to say right now (again!) - I fricking adore Dan! In Clown'd you see how caring he is - the perfect Dom - and again in this book he gives Kyle exactly what he wants. Rough. Tough. Hard. Sexy. But he is never unaware of the state that Kyle is in, and would stop immediately if needed. The scene at the end of the book (okay, the last half of the book) is intense. I have never got the whole boot licking thing, but damn! It worked! And then some! Then the loving, nurturing, post scene care was beautiful. Yes, I am a sap.

I also really like Kyle. His desperate need to not be judged and looked down upon (no pun intended) is quite sad, and understandable. I get how he wants to hide that part of him. It is funny too - his worry about the Pride March and the proximity of the BDSM marchers had me giggling - you need to read it to see what I mean :-) I really hope we get more of these guys! If you like heavy hitting BDSM between a couple that just totally get eachother, then you will love this one! Go. Buy the Book!

Solid prequel to Clown'd where we see how Dan and Kyle met.

While it was quite delicious in the creativity, it lacks the pure, unadulterated, theatrical panache. The sex is scorching with some intense role playing which is anything but PC. Features some aggressive play including mock-rape, moderate humiliation, and some boot worshipping.

Back to the beginning.

I've read Clown'd, and I've read book 5? with pirates. Very hot.

That's pretty much what I was expecting with this one. Pleasantly surprised to get some of the back story of how they met. It was nice. Of course, there is still hot, porny times. So Win, Win!
All around good time.

Here we get to see how Kyle and Dan came about before their crazy clown foray in Clown'd.

When Dan first meets Kyle he seems quite uptight and square.

"Kyle is all the sanitized-gay."

While Dan is the complete opposite to what Kyle needs but his wants are a different story.

In this book Kyle's persona and kink seems to be at odds with one another. However, his own personal misconnect seems to work with Dan.

They had shared something and intimate. Something others might not have understood. But Dan did. He didn't consider Kyle's fantasies. But Dan did. He didn't consider Kyle's fantasies offensive, he was willing to go with the flow.

I would love to be in the mind of Kat and Agnes for just a bit to see how they tick as there books are a wild ride with some kinks that are not always for everyone.

This was a fun read although there were some grammatical errors and the authors haven't quite grasped the colloquialism of American English. Still very readable, easy to follow. It's sexy and fun.

Read this in their anthology.

I would give this 5 stars because the seed of a great story is there, the sex is super hot, and the characters are interesting; but unfortunately it just isn't ENOUGH of a story. I need more! Looking forward to the rest of the stories in this collection...

I love how K.A. Merikan writes stories set in college or university, it’s just like they’re born to describe teenagers’ adventures. I almost sit there in this club meeting, it’s so easy to feel the vibe. We knew Kyle and Dan from “Clown’d” but after reading this sequel I didn’t expect that Kyle could be shy and so in the closet with his fantasies. On one hand I understand why he did it - he wanted to be respected etc, but on the other, God, he really sanitized himself! Excessively. It was so funny reading about this struggle inside, he was so torn up between lust and being proper haha but he is not ‘Mr Proper’ in this case. At the beginning Dan seemed to be pushy a bit. It isn’t nice when somebody doesn’t want to be touched – Kyle of course did want :D I was rolling in laughter when Kyle broke down in the park (seriously they wanted do it for the first time in a park?! It just couldn’t end well hahaha) When Kyle panicked in arrest my only thought was “yeah, cuddle to his beefy arm and chest and just comfort yourself”. That was a great beginning of the relationship XD

I also love how they describe BDSM, that scene was SO HOT, so dirty… I was tense all the time! Knowledge that Kyle truly is a greedy cunt, that he wants this humiliation so much to even plead for it, additionally heated the atmosphere :D They just couldn’t miss my favorite licking leather boots, ah, the best! For now Clown’d makes perfect sense for me, I must read it one more time to feel this chemistry again. I don’t enjoy gangbang as much as BDSM but with them it was maybe hotter :D I can’t wait to the next parts, I hope that the numbers mean there will be more, because I feel deficiency of Dan! I’m intrigued with him. I know Kyle and his filthy mind now, but I don’t think Dan is ‘Mr Proper’ for sure, when he takes a part in a gangbang or BDSM so eagerly :D

This prequel to Clown'd reads well as a standalone, but it also provides great background for Clown'd and, presumably, the remaining books in the series. Watching Kyle and Dan meet for the first time and begin to figure out their relationship was great fun as well as very, very hot.

Kyle is trying to be all "proper" and good now that he's in college. He is too ashamed of his darker desires and his enjoyment of being humiliated to admit them out loud, partly because he has never had anyone he could trust enough to open up. But when he meets Dan and discovers his fellow student may just be exactly whom he is looking for, temptation takes over and Kyle begins to let go of his inhibitions. Behind closed doors only, but still! Their role play is very hot, if you like that sort of thing, and the beginnings of love are clearly there.

If you like men playing rough games, if two guys testing how far they can go with each other sound hot, and if you're looking for a read that is as short as it is hot, then you will probably like this short story.

Lots of kinky fun. i loved how sweet both Kyle and Dan are. This book is the lead up to and play of one scene, the role-playing rape scene. Which is super hot. The two boys are is a nice strong relationship and i love how they 'debrief' after the scene. Only problem is, it was so short!! i wanted more!!!

It was great. It was exactly the kind of darkish kind of book I love to read. I was trying to make up my mind about the author because I had some ups and downs, but this book make some difference, especially because I wasn’t expecting to really like it.

At the beginning of the book there are some interesting conversations between the main characters that got my attentions very quickly. I had an issue with how the story keeps developing because one minute they barely know each other, and the next one they are already a couple without we even know what happen in between. It was little bit frustrating, but putting that aside, what comes next was so thrilling.

I loved the second chapter the most. I like reading dark stuff and the fact this was something very well planned made me think I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it, but I was so wrong. I generally not into role playing, but this book, and mostly the second chapter scene was so exciting. I loved it. I ended up liking the book so much more than I expected and now I have no doubts I will be reading more from the author really soon.

I read all the books in order back to back. Initially I walked away feeling a little cheated because there is so much sex and not a lot of story in this series as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I love hot, kinky, erotic books but I usually like a little plot mixed in. Thankfully you do get that with Book 1, Skinhead.

I didn't immediately like Kyle. His judgmental, hypocritical nature irked me. I wanted to shake him and say, 'You are running a gay pride club and outwardly judging BDSM'ers!' Arrgghh. However, I loved Dan right away and I knew he would turn out to be a good influence for Kyle. After getting to know each other a little, Dan and Kyle move into their sexual relationship, resulting in some seriously hot m/m porn. It intrigued me and got me excited for the rest of the series.

It's not quite what I expected, considering the blurb, but it was pretty good. Very focused on consent, always keeping it in the readers mind that this is a consensual role play scenario, so it never feels dark or scary. Pretty hot, too.
The prison part was a bit weird to me, though. Didn't quite get the point.

Hmm

I liked the quick story, but what happened with the charge of public indecency at the beginning? How did they not talk about being exclusive when taking about their sexual fantasies?

This was a weird one for me. The lover interests had no chemistry in the first half of the novella and I nearly DNF'd. I was also frankly quite bored. Those problems were resolved in the second half, but I don't think the series will keep me engaged - won't continue.
