“Masaya ako kapag kasama kita… Masayang-masaya.
By far the best tagalog fantasy series ever written. If you've watch BBC's Merlin, reading this feels like that. They're not the same, but the beauty and brilliance in the way it was written was pretty close. I found myself ganging at every word, anxious to turn every page, and looking forward to what will happen next. Two thumbs up for the writer.
Grabe. Iba itong si Vanessa. Wow. Just wow.
So, this book is very much different sa mga nababasa nating Tagalog novel. Martin.
Okay, Andrei is an okay character. So is Alexandra. Ang pinakamagandang character for me talaga is Venus. Hahaha!
I'm so excited to read the next book--Isadora's story. Sana ay magkapera kaagad ako. Hahaha!
P.S. Aaaahh, I wanna read it na talaga. :)
I gotta give credit to Ms. Vanessa she created a whole new magical world in VEAKARIA na para bang gustong gusto mo namnamin ang magimagine kung paano o ano iyun. The curse, the love and the conflict...loved it!
And of course ang aso't pusang love story ni Andrei at Alexandra....chef kiss!
I will just give my personal opinion about the book but it contains spoilers. And I wanna congratulate Ms. Vanessa for this. Writing a whole series under this genre is not that easy.
I’ve read few PHR Gothic romance stories including “RED” of Ms. Vanessa that’s why I was quite intrigued when I learned that “VEAKARIA” is somehow connected to that book. Obviously, it is a fantasy romance: other world, creatures such as dwarves, fairies, sorcerers, vampires etc. I like how the author established a connection between Veakaria and the real world (Nador Theal or Damned Land).
1. WRITING STYLE: It was well-written and easy to read. Hindi siya ‘yong tipong mabo-bore kang basahin. But there were some redundant statements. Sometimes I find them very tiring to read na feeling ko hindi naman na kailangang i-emphasize.
2. CHARACTERS:
ANDREI. He was arrogant at first but in the middle of the story, he changed. He was smart, tough pero meron din siyang soft side na mas nagustuhan ko. I like how he dealt with people na parang kaya niya talagang dalhin ang sarili niya.
ALEXANDRA. Well I honestly didn’t find her character likeable ‘coz I felt like she’s just a typical heroine of some romance story. I was kinda disappointed dahil parang hindi ko nakita ‘yong worth niya sa buong story at sumentro lang ang character niya bilang isang babaeng nai-in love kay Andrei. She was ” blank” for me. Sometimes, I find her annoying.
VENUS. At first medyo na-corny-han ako because I don’t find humor sa “maaarteng” lines (for gay characters). Mas gusto ko ‘yong natural lang. But in the middle of the book until ending, minahal ko na siya lol.
MITERA SALOME. I find her weird sometimes haha but I like how she disciplines her students. Parang gusto ko ring magpaampon sa kanya.
For others, I can’t say much for now. Still need to read the other books.
3. PLOT/CONCEPTS/IDEAS/STORY FLOW: When I first read the teaser, I got intrigued. I was expecting a lot of adventure and action here. But with action, nothing much; adventure, nothing extraordinary but you’ll still find it entertaining. I was just disappointed sa part ng pagliligtas kay Yorgos. Parang sobrang dali namang nagawa na hindi man lang sila nalagay sa panganib or something. The preparation was difficult (surely for the characters), but I didn’t feel that what they’re doing is really dangerous. It was plain for me. Parang useless ang weapons na pinagawa nila.
I didn’t find the romance nakakakilig or something. There are times na parang gusto ko na lang i-skip ang scenes nina Andrei at Xandra because I find them too cheesy (not romantic). I just don’t agree sa part na sinabi ni Andrei na intense ang love niya for Xandra. I was upset dahil parang ang babaw lang naman ng love niya rito, and I had this question: how did he fall in love with her in the first place?
I like the process of “anihan ng asawa” and the concept of Lamia’s culture. The pacing was balanced. The story flow was quite predictable and it wasn’t thrilling for me. Veakaria was supposed to feel magical but I didn’t feel it magical (maybe sa next series). But the ideas were brilliantly created. Hindi basta-basta sinulat lang, and the author was able to explain everything.
MY FAVORITE PART: When Andrei was chasing Aarfina’s ghost and he was crying. Sobrang na-touch ako sa part na ‘yon.
Overall, the first installment was good but it wasn’t really satisfying for me. I hope the next series will be more exciting. Gonna read the second one.
Just a note: I’m happy that our Filipino writers are now exploring other genre. Thumbs up kay Ms. Vanessa!
