Tender romance in the brutal world of epic fantasy.
The first book in the Kings of Tavia Series reveals a land where Gods and Goddesses control the currents of human fate, changelings sell their skills for gold and only those with dark magic in their blood can master dragons.
Jestaen D'Myrl is the sheltered niece of the wealthy King of the Myrl clan. But the tangled web of her mother's deceit leaves her abandoned on the blood soaked battlefields of the Tordon Plains. Captured by a savage warlord the young woman is bartered as a pawn by the high lords who would be King.
On a night black as pitch and swirling with snow I was traveling far with miles to go Ahead in the distance in a valley below I spied a small tavern with windows aglow There was music and laughter and tankards of ale And a bard by the hearth who was singing her tale So I sat and I listened to the stories she told Of maidens so fair and brave knights of old My spirit grew merry as my thirst I did quench And I vowed to return to the Old Saucy Wench
For those who follow my reviews, you know that I don't typically read historicals. Well, I took a chance and I found the right book to introduce me! This was not overly done, as I have seen other Mystical Romances/Historical.
The author does a great job describing this land and the characters. I love how we actually get to see into all of them! At the same time, you can't stop reading because you have to see what happens next!!
Ok, first, our leading lady. Princess. Healer. At first she seems weak and fragile, but you really see her grow into a strong tough woman who can stand on her own! Love that!
Errmehgerrrd. Rork. This book really isn't a romance for say, but damn. Rork was described as the manliest of men. Sex on a stick if you ask me. He's a take charge, fight to the death kind of prince. Swoon!
The whole time during the book I am just egging them on! Do it! Do it! Dooooooo it!!!! There was a premonition that tells me that they are going to get together, but dammit! Cliffhanger! ARGGGH!
Hold onto your panties, I contacted the author to ask about a book #2!!! She is working on it as we speak.
Side note: Whenever I read about the dragon lord, I totally saw this guy!
ugh it was sooo hard to rate this book.... I hated how the book switched from 2nd to 1st POV and so forth through the book. Also I wasn't a fan of switching between characters POV's so often. The hard part is rating a book when you don't like the writing style it may be something some people like but not me... I did however like the story itself if it wasn't switching POV and charactes.... sooo I suggest if you like the style of writing to read it if not, read at your own risk because I couldn't just stop reading.
I hate not giving a 4 or 5,but I expected alot from the way it was described. The writing style was not good, needs editing. It just lacked the creative writing that it takes to draw in a reader. Story line would work if a skilled writer executed it
Nice read. Things progressed rather quickly, and while the characters have potential, their relationships lack a bit of depth. Their relationships are well set up, they just need a bit more uhmph.
I love epic stories with elves and dragons and orcs and this has everything you could want . Definitely kept me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next and I can't wait to get into book two .
I don't know what draws one into a book or not but i just couldn't get into this book. I liked the idea behind the book but somehow it failed to live up to what I was expecting.
