Clare O'Donohue was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of four children. Her parents, John and Sabina O'Donohue, were both born in Ireland. They met in London and moved to the US and settled on Chicago's South Side where she was raised.

She always knew she wanted to be a writer and in fact wrote her first novel when she was 15. It was a mystery. After college she worked as a newspaper reporter and writing teacher before moving to LA and getting her first job in television. That was on the HGTV show, Simply Quilts. she had already been quilting for about five years, which was why the producer hired her, but she really got an education in quilting from that show.

It’s New Year’s Eve and Nell Fitzgerald has huge plans. She’s on her way to New York City to spend the holiday in the Big Apple with the love of her life, Jesse Dewalt. They have a difficult time getting the time off as Nell leaves her quilting shop, Someday Quilts, in the hands of her grandmother and Jesse leaves his police station in the capable hands of his deputy, Greg.

Just before Nell and Jesse are ready to leave, the local pizzeria owner, Joe, gets into some trouble and is locked up in jail. Jesse has no problem leaving Greg in charge, but as soon as they arrive in New York, they get a call that Joe is dead. Now, Greg is being accused of his death. Nell and Jesse have no choice but to put the holiday on hold and return home.

No way does Jesse believe Greg is responsible for this. With the help of Nell and the ladies of the Someday Quilts group, Jesse is determined to prove his deputy’s innocence.

The characters feel more like family. The story moves at a fast-pace. The story unfolded in a logical, methodical way. Readers can easily follow along.

This is the second novella in this series I’ve read and I am so hooked just from the novellas. There are five full length novels in this series and it’s another series on my “TBR” series list. I don’t know how I missed this cozy mystery series when it first came out but, from two novellas, I can tell that I would love it.

Nell and Jesse are finally taking some time off to celebrate New Year’s in the Big Apple. They really need a romantic weekend away. Nothing is going to ruin their plans. BUT before they even get off the train in New York City they are called back to Archer’s Rest.

A man in jail for disorderly conduct has been found dead in his cell. Jesse had left his most trustworthy deputy in charge. This freak event sets the town abuzz like a streak of lightning. He has no choice but to go back and find out what the heck happened!

Dollycas’s Thoughts
A wonderful short story to bridge the gap between full length novels. These are great characters and the story has a very interesting twist which I loved.

Add this one to your e-reader today and head to the beach. A fun, quick read even those not familiar with the series will enjoy! Fans of the series will be counting the days until The Double Wedding Ring hits shelves.

This was a wonderfully written novella. I have read a book from this series so I was familiar with the town and characters. But it is written so that anyone could just jump in and enjoy it!

It was a good cozy mystery that kept me guessing at the ending. I also enjoy the quilting parts that are in the stories. Looking forward to the next book on this series.

Streak of Lightning is fast paced and a very entertaining story. I would definitely recommend it to those who love cozy mysteries and quilting!

Novella in the Someday Quilt series. I know, right? Quilts. My only connection to quilts is sitting under them while watching TV. But I still like this series and enjoyed an extra story from it.
