Ada Lee is heartbroken. She’s not really what her boyfriend David wants any longer; turns out, he’s “outgrown her.”
When her friends convince her that a complete makeover is just what she needs to feel more confident about herself and make her ex jealous, Ada Lee reluctantly agrees. This new look brings surprising attention, but the flattery is short lived as Ada realizes that she is really just a pawn in a game. Is it time to re-evaluate her motives for wanting to change?
While caught up in her own drama, Ada Lee has missed what was right in front of her the whole time. In a flurry of emotion, she hurts the ones she loves, grasps for ones she has no business pursuing, and just about misses the opportunity of a lifetime. "The New and Improved Ada Lee Bixby" is a story of self-discovery as Ada heals from tragedy on the road to her new and improved self, encountering a few surprises along the way.
This book is good for a few chuckles. However, the protagonist, Ada Lee Baxter, isn't very relatable. The only character I liked in the book was Alex, her boss. And I grew ever more frustrated with her for not seeing that he was the only good man in the story.
This book was too short a read, I was enjoying it when it ended, but I guess if it had gone further it would have lost its edge, as it is there was a beginning, a middle and an end.
Ada gets dumped at the beginning of the book by a guy who doesn't deserve her, riddled with image issues and a lack of self belief she turns to her friends for a makeover, with some funny results. I think some of the scenes could have had more to them such as the waxing scene, the author clearly can write humour and could have expanded on several chapters which would have made it a longer and slightly more satisfying read.
I think that Ada is a character that could and should appear in another book, there's certainly more of her story to tell, especially if the author pursues Ada's plan, as she's funny, quirky and we always love to see the underdog do well.
If you're after a very quick read, like chick-lit then this is the book for you.
The book was what I was looking for at this particular time, in that it was light, easy and fast reading. I also had several chuckles along the way. As I read, I kept hoping that Ada Lee, by some strange twist, would not go back to David. It was interesting to see how the misunderstandings among friends were handled, and I liked certain of her friends better than others. I suppose the story ended at the right place, but I would have liked to have known more of the romantic relationship with Alex.
A fun, witty story with lots of great characters to cheer for. The plot is familiar, but comfortable. After a traumatic injury at work, Ada has fallen into some bad habits. But when she overhears her boyfriend's callous comments about her lack of social skills and how she's let herself go, she decides to reinvent herself to make him jealous. The story line is predictable, but still enjoyable.
Shut Up! This books was a scream! This was my first 'chick book' and I loved it! It is about a girl, Ada Lee Bixby, who gets dumped. Now like most girls, Ada wants revenge. Unlike most, Ada and her friends plot and follow through with a revengeful scheme, but to what cost?
This is an easy, fast read and I was completely satisfied.
This book was a little better written than some I've read recently. The story was fairly predictable but it was a sweet story and I really liked the main character. There's nothing earth shattering here, just an easy read that won't tax your brain. Worth a look.
I read up to chapter 3 but I thought the female lead was dumb and I couldn't read any more.
Since this is listed as a Romantic Comedy I expected it to be humorous but there wasn't anything funny about this woman or her life. All the talk of her being fat at size 8 was more than I could handle.
A little too short.....but a nice uncomplicated little romance. Ada`s character is able to pull the reader in with a bit of sympathy but then manages to take charge and show some spunk.
