Changing Tunes

Ashley Davis is over her high school 'bitch' label and has decided to reinvent herself. College offers a new beginning, a chance to be different. After being assaulted, she's realized that she needs to change and college is just the place to do it. Nobody knows the Ashley she used to be and she'd like to keep it that way.
Afraid of falling into the same patterns she decides that having no friends, no life and focusing on school is the way to go, but she didn’t bank on someone like Mac as her roommate or the tall, dark and completely geek hot in his glasses, Zeke Whitman.

Ezekiel (Zeke) Whitman is driven and focused when it comes to school. When he's forced to partner with a tall, leggy blonde with a slight attitude, he's thrown for a loop. With so much at stake, Zeke can’t afford distractions and Ashley is certainly that. From their first encounter Zeke sees more than just another gorgeous girl.

As Ashley grapples with leaving the ‘old’ her behind, she realizes that sometimes changing tunes isn't as easy as it sounds. Sometimes you have to keep a little of the person that you were, in order to become the person that you want to be.

Heather has given me the privilege of reading an ARC of Changing Tunes for an honest review.

Ashley tall blonde beautiful, a knack for calling people on their BS,
exudes confidence, intelligent, driven. Vows to make a fresh start at college, has a fear of letting others get close, feels alone and not worthy of love. Why you ask? Ashley's mother abandons her when she is a child leaving her to be raised by a cruel, unaffectionate father who controls every aspect of her life. He has made her feel unwanted and imperfect all her life and the only time she has any semblance of control herself is when she is intimate with a guy of her choosing. Quick & Done, one night no strings, no touching.

Mac is Ashley's roommate who becomes an amazing friend. She is always there for Ashley to lend an ear, give advice, pick her up when she doubts herself. Mac accepts Ashley from the beginning with no judgement. Ashley has never had a true friend nor any person show such kindness & love that she embraces it with both hands.

Zeke is not our typical college guy who is ripped, pierced, or tatted. He is definitely not a player by any means either. Zeke is a classy, sexy, nerdy guy. He's smart, goal oriented, with a heart of gold. Believe me when I say Zeke needs no tattoos or piercings, he is that Delicious inside and out. Zeke made my heart pitter-patter as well as melt my insides like "warm chocolate left in the sun" whenever he spoke. Reading Zeke's POV on how he sees Ashley as a breath-taking , intelligent beauty he wants to know. He finds her refreshing as well as captivating. Zeke also sees pain in her eyes and feels a strong urge to want to protect her right from their first accidental run in.

Both decide they have no time for a relationship and are convinced they have nothing to offer the other but friendship. Their friendship grows over time as well as their feelings for one another. These two have incredible chemistry and when they finally get together "YOWZA" it's hot and really beautiful.

I also enjoyed the side characters Nick, Ian, and Austin. I'm excited that each will get their own story. They are a fun loving bunch of guys who bring laughter to the table but also were fiercely protective of the girls as if they were their big brothers.

Pssst... Zeke has a whopper of a secret??? Will it tear them apart? Can they get past it once it's revealed? What could he possibly be hiding? and What really happened to Ashley's mother?

I truly Loooved this book and still want more!!!

BUY this Book TODAY! NOW! ASAP! Sparks fly, Fun ensues, Love enfolds. Besides who doesn't want to fall in Love with our Swoony Zeke?!?! I sure as Heck did!!!!

Heather Gunter you have done it again. This one falls right in line with Love Notes and Heartstrings .I consumed Changing Tunes just like I did those. Your are absolutely amazing at giving us a look into real life issues. You make your characters so real they jump off the pages. I felt like I was sitting right next to them as there story unfolded. I could feel the emotions just roll off the pages. When I started this book I had no clue what it was about because I very rarely read a synopsis. All I need to know was it's by Heather Gunter I can't go wrong so I clicked.
First meeting Ashley my feelings were up and down for her. So beautiful and full of life but yet so broken. Watching her heal and find her way home is a beautiful journey. You never know how strong you are until you have no choice. Zeke oh my lets see HOT, passionate, alpha and absolutely breathtaking. He's the reason GEEK is the new sexy. This man is all the right things rolled up into one. He loves with his whole heart. It shows with how he cares for her. He brings her life purpose and she gives him a reason to want more. The chemistry between all the characters is refreshing. They are "family" something Ashley's never had . They are there for one another and that is refreshing to see. Watching Zeke and Ashley go from friends to lovers completing healing one another was inspiring.

Zeke- " You are truly amazing I'm every way." ( It's in those words I know gone to him. I'm in trouble: mind, body and heart.)

Zeke- " You're so damn beautiful. How did I get so luck?"

Ashley- "You loved me for me, you accepted all of me, you never judged me, you just took me as I am"

Now that I'm done I miss them. I want more Ashley and Zeke. Now that I know how they started I want to see where they end up.

Such a beautiful story of finding yourself and finding your way home. Brilliant , Amazing , Hot and absolutely breathtaking. One of the best books I've purchased in awhile. And then I get to acknowledgments and see my name I and seriously broke down and cried. I feel truly honored that you took the time to value my opinion on your books and appreciate it. I love all of your work they all have beautiful powerful messages. I look forward to more from you. I'm truly a forever fan <3

Wow! I think Heather has outdone herself with this one!! If you hated Ashley in Heartstrings, then you will be glad to see that she does actually have a heart in this one.

Ashley has now left for college, trying to start a new life. She's had to deal with her dad controlling her life for so long that she's ready to start anew and make her own rules. My heart just broke for her after what she has had to endure with her overbearing dad and without her mom in her life. I really love getting all the answers around her mom leaving and seeing her get some closure.

Zeke is the all American guy and such a hottie!! I instantly fell in love with him and I am still swooning over him. The more I read about him, the further I fell. But, good guys always seem to have a secret and it really floored me. The closer he and Ashley get, I'm wondering if his secret will tear them apart. Throughout this book, you can really see how much Ashley matures and blossoms into such a caring woman.

This book will make you happy, sad, and wondering what's going to happen when his secret is revealed. Will Ashley be able to prove she's stronger than she thinks? Their relationship is so hot, but yet so tender and I love seeing Ashley find something beside the one night stands and eventually finding herself in this beautiful and amazing book!!

*I am a beta reader for Heather – Leaving an honest review without request*

Changing Tunes is the first in what I think is going to be a pretty fantastic new NA series. When we first meet Ashley it’s in Heartstrings (book two in the YA Love Notes series). There really is nothing redeeming about Ashley. She is a “Queen B” and thrives off the attention and drama she gets/creates wherever she goes. She’s selfish, manipulative and well a straight up bitch. Without hesitation she went after the characters that I had grown to love in the Love Notes series. When Heather said she was going to be doing a new series and the first book would have Ashley as the “heroine”, I flinched. Could it be done? I had no love for this character…all she did was piss me off and make me want to bitch slap her senseless. But the thing you need to know about Heather is she’s always up for the challenge. She saw something in Ashley that I didn’t…not at first. When she explained her vision for Changing Tunes I got my ass on board and wound up falling in love with Ash and all the new characters you’ll meet. In the first few chapters of Changing Tunes I was rooting for Ash. I NEEDED her to get an HEA…she deserved true friendship and love; things you learn quickly she had never in her life experienced.

When Changing Tunes begins, Ash is off to college. She didn’t have an easy end to her senior year of high school and struggled with a traumatic event that the people closest to her never believed her about. Her goal is to change…to be a new Ash for a new place and time. It’s also something she quickly discovers isn’t the easiest thing to do – change that is – when the pressures of your old life still haunt you. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call Ash “boy-crazy” but she definitely can appreciate a fine looking guy and used to have no qualms about whether he was taken or not. Though she’s leaving her man-stealing ways in the past, she still needs the control she feels from those one-nighters. That is until she meets Zeke. Meeting and eventually letting Zeke in releases something in Ash that I’m not sure she truly recognized was broken or maybe she wasn’t fully ready to admit was. When you grow up a certain way and it’s all you know it is what becomes your “norm”. But the way her new friends, including Zeke and her roommate, Mac, shows her how people love, how they are compassionate, how they take care of each other and how experiencing those things lets you heal.

Both Zeke and Ash are immediately attracted to one another…but don’t get freaked out it’s not the dreaded “insta-love”. When they meet for the first time Ash is contemplatively taking a trip down memory lane and literally runs right into Zeke. Snark, sass and ‘tude ensues but the two leave a lasting impression on each other. It takes a while for these two to give into their feelings both emotional and physical for one another; they both have their reasons for needing to stay focused on their schooling and not each other. It’s a challenge for them both, one they ultimately give into and something that eventually threatens to break them apart.

Zeke has no room in his life for any kind of disruptions; even for a beautiful and somewhat damaged young woman that has grabbed his attention. He’s made mistakes in his past that he has taken full responsibility for and which are part of the driving force behind his focus on school. But there is just something that continually draws him to Ash and he can’t let go. Those mistakes I mentioned? The ones that he lets drive his every choice in the now? Nope can’t tell ya…but man will it be a surprise and also the very reason that might pull Ash and Zeke apart.

There is no way you can’t walk away from Changing Tunes without compassion and love for Ash and all the other wonderful characters. It’s one of those things where you really don’t know someone until you KNOW them…even if they are a fictional characters. There is so much in Ash’s past that drives the way she talks, the way she thinks, the way she treats others and lets herself be treated. Heather did an incredible job once again drawing me into the characters, their stories and making me not just connect but feel. I may have required some of my trusty Puffs a few times. In the end you are left with an HEA but wanting more. Heather has a lot of plans for this series but I hope she will give us some more Ash and Zeke…I definitely want to see what happens after “Happily Ever After”.

Changing Tunes by Heather Gunter was an absolute joy to read. I fell into this story and had a hard time pulling myself away. The characters in this story are relatable and written with a perfect combination of emotional issues, redemption and love.

Ashley Davis is starting her new life in college, trying to become a better person, she is going to steer clear of the “bitch” was in high school. This girl has some major problems, she is described as a complete knockout but they way she degrades herself is sad. I felt for her in this story. Her family life is less than desirable and I don’t think she’s ever had anyone really care for her. When she gets to college, she meets Mackenzie “Mac”, her new roommate. I loved Mac and I am pretty sure she is Ashley’s first real friend. There are also a couple of other great supporting characters that form a pretty tight bond, and then there is Zeke Whitman… THE GUY <3 **swoon**. Zeke is a great character, he is sexy, smart, funny, and genuine (hot damn what a lethal combination). But, he may have some secrets that will shock you.

This book has everything I love in a good romance: Love, Loss, Friendship, Redemption, but it also has those twists and turns that I didn’t’ see coming. I have high hopes for The Changing Series; I believe it’s going to be a great series from Heather. Can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

This is one of those books, that you just can't put down. I really enjoyed this book; the secrets, the characters, the best friend, it was all really good, and at the end it tied into perfection.

Zeke was adorable, awesome in more ways than one. He had his secrets as well but even that wasn't enough to not persue that man. It just made him more awesome. I still would have went for it as well. Just glad Ashley saw it before it was to late.

Mac was the most awesomeness best friend ever walked the planet. Anyone would love to have a friend like that, she wasperfect, and just what Ashley needed, to conquer her future steps she was wanting so desperatly to find. And that she did. What she did to stand up for herself was amazing, took strength and courage, and she found that with the help of her friends and the love of a great man.

I will be looking forward to reading more books by Heather Gunter.

I have to admit that I did not like Ashley in Heartstrings, but I could get where she was coming from.

When she decides to give herself a new beginning, she's absolutely not the Ashley like we knew. Together with the help of her roommate Mac (who will get her own story in "Gainer's Grace"), she allows herself to take control of things.

Enter Zeke, one of Ashley's classmates, who has a secret of his own.

They both have totally different backgrounds and they both have their insecurities and secrets. But what happens next is a story of second chances, for both of them. A beautiful and heartwarming new beginning.

I loved all of the side characters, and I'm looking forward to read Mac's story!

Heather Gunter is a wonderful writer, who challenges herself by writing about very sensitive topics such as mental and fysical abuse.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by Heather Gunter, but it won't be my last! Her characters are AWESOME! I have to admit, that I was not a fan of Ashley when I started reading, but by the end of the book, I was a fan.

Can we talk about Zeke for a second? Zeke.....ahhh, Zeke. Zeke is the all-american guy. He's gorgeous, level-headed, sensitive and driven. And he's um....very hot and not afraid to show his emotions, which I LOVE.

I adored Mac---everyone should have a friend like her and I'm very much looking forward to reading her book later this year!!!\

Great job, Heather!!!

"Control is a hard thing for me to relinquish, and it's something I've always craved. For some reason with you, I don't feel that need. I think with you, I can let it go."

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!!! I love Heather Gunter even more! If you haven't read any of her book's yet, you need too. Not only does she write stories. She puts her heart & soul and her emotions into all of her stories. This is one author that deserves all the credit coming to her!!

We met Ashley in 'Heartstrings' and man was she a bitch!! She is definitely one cold harded one at that. Ashley starts drama wherever she goes. She has nobody that she can call a friend and she is perfectly OK with that. If she sees a guy she likes she goes after them. Not caring if they are single or taken. For Ashley any man is fair game. I always had a gut feeling that there had to be a reason why she was the way she was. At the end of 'Heartstrings' Ashley was attacked by a guy she was warned about. That she didn't listen.

Now Ashley is starting college and on a mission to change. She doesn't want to be the same person she was in high school. Ashley doesn't want to be the 'bitch' anymore. She refuses to go after a guy who is already in a relationship. She wants to stay under the radar and do good in school. Even though she has no choice in much of anything. The warden aka her father dictates what classes she takes and everything else in her life. He was the only person that I hated in this book. He had no love for his daughter at all!! He would call/text her to make sure she was going to class, doing her homework, not embarrassing him. And, to remind her that he has eyes on her & to let her know that another 'innocent' (Is what he called it) will never happen again!! We learn her mom left when she was younger & never said goodbye. So, her heart is cold.

"You aren't just a piece of ass to me. God, you are so much more. Let me show you what you mean to me. Let me make you feel good. I don't just want this with you, I want so much more. I want all of you, Ash."

Ashley is taken back when she meets her roommate Mac. Who I love!!! (And, I'm super, super stoked her book is next!!) Mac is genuinely nice & such a nice person. She can see the sadness in Ashley's eyes and lets her know she will be here for her no matter what. Ashley wasn't looking for friends but, with Mac it was different. They go to a party where Ashley is looking for a easy lay. She's all about 1 timers. Jump on & jump off and leave.

Ashley starts school and finds herself partnered with Zeke. Oh Zeke. He's tall, dark, nerdy and HOT!!! Like he has such a hot, nerdy swagger to him. LOL. He like Ashley has his demons if you'd call them that. He held off on college to deal with personal issues. That I'm not telling you. Monday through Friday he's in school. Then, he goes home to his family on weekends. Zeke doesn't want anything to do with women. He just needs to focus on school & passing. Then, graduating. Yet, he sees Ashley and he can see the sadness in her eyes. He's instantly drawn to her. He feels like he needs to protect her. Ashley as well has never been attracted to a guy for more then a 1 time thing. His eyes haunt her. Those chocolate brown eyes are in her dreams & in her thoughts.

Ashley realizes rather quickly that Mac is there for the long haul. And, that she is genuine. They become friends with Austin, Nick & Ian. They are the 1st guys she has ever become friends with. And, they really are a great bunch of guys too! They all hang out on a daily basis. Ashley starts to realize that someone doesn't have to share your last name in order to be your family. The guys & Mac are her family. In more ways then her own father ever was!!

"Don't you realize by now, Ashley Davis, that you're mine? I'm not letting you go, and never without a fight."

Zeke & Ashley finally realize it's OK to move forward. To see where their relationship might go. These 2 are perfect for each other. They both are still committed to doing good at school. Both have their own reasons why they MUST pass! They are inseparable and are either studying or hanging out alone or with the gang. Ashley has never been happier. But, she knows that Zeke is hiding something from her. Why does he go home every weekend. And, why won't he bring her? She can't figure out what or who he's hiding or is it he's embarrassed of her.

Ashley has a lot to deal with. Her dad being #1. Learning how to let go of the old her. Issues with one of her teachers. She's really missing her mom and wanting answers. Zeke and his secrets. Ashley needs to figure it all out.

"I'm sorry. You're right. I love you so much, but I honestly don't know if I can be what you need me to be."

This book once I picked up I literally could not put down. Then, I was very upset that I finished it. Heather definitely outdid herself with this book!! Every book she writes is better then the last one. I really hope she is writing her next book fast. Because, I'm not sure how much longer I can wait!!

"Just you wait, Ash. When you least expect it, someone is going to throw you in a tailspin and you won't know what's hit you. Someone is going to see how fantastic you are, and maybe then, you will, too."

After reading Heartstrings, I was so excited to read Ashley’s story. Yes, we were not off to a good start with her being the mean girl, and she certainly got her karma at the near-end of the novel – but who can resist a bad girl reformed? Certainly not me. She was saved, given a second chance, and I knew she wouldn’t mess this up – because despite what happened in the second book of the Love Notes novel – everyone deserves a second chance. Even the person who pissed you off the most.

Oh, she will win your hearts. You might need some chapters to warm up to her, but in the end, you will be proud of the girl that she had become and the change she underwent. Change is the only permanent thing in the world, and for some, it is the most hardest to adapt to. So, give her that benefit of the doubt, give her some time to adjust, be a little patient – because this girl will reward you greatly. You will not reach the final page without her getting your approval.

College was not as easy as it seems, but she was determine to start anew. She found new friends, I so love Mac – and I was glad they were roomies. She had a bubbly personality, and didn’t judge her. Mac made her way through her walls, and before she knew it, she gained a friend she knew she could trust and a girl who had her back. And there was Nick who is a complete flirt, but completely likable, Austin, who has all the potential, if only he can get away from the clutches of his long-time girlfriend and really find someone who is for him, and Ian, the one with the long distance relationship. Ashley didn’t expect to gain good friends, much more gain a family during her stay in college.

Speaking of family – I so hate her father. He was completely ruthless and didn’t really care for her. He cared more for his and his company’s reputation. When Ashley came to him for help, I wanted to smack him for not giving her the support she needed. Good thing she has Zeke and her new friends who stood by her during her lowest times.

And speaking of Zeke – how can I forget this amazing guy! He’s a hot nerd (completely my type) who bumps into Ashley, and suddenly made her heart turn topsy-turvy. At first, she didn’t want to complicate things and prefer to make him her friend (the way he prefers it too), but the attraction and the sexual tension was too much, and their chemistry was just skyrocketing they could no longer deny it.

She worries that her past and indiscretions might drove him away, but what she didn’t know was that this guy was keeping things from her too! I had some inclinations to what the secrets might be – but was still surprised when it was out in the open. I didn’t realize that there was more to this geek than being hot and intelligent. He’s responsible, he loves thoroughly, and his family always comes first. Anyone is lucky to have him – baggage, past and all.

Heather Gunter wrote a great book about moving on, second chances and family. It shows that there is always good in people, and no matter what they did in the past, change is always possible. So, give our Ashley a second chance – because she deserves it. She won’t waste it – although she encounters some stumbles at first, but she survived through it and you will really, really love her just like I do now.

Changings Tunes was my very first read by Heather Gunter and I enjoyed it very much. It was one of those stories where you really needed to analyze the characters to figure out why they are the way they are and why they behave the way they do. Her leading lady, Ashley, was a very complex character that I loved getting to know during Changing Tunes.

Ashley is very hands off, she likes to be in control when it comes to the opposite sex because that’s the only aspect of her life in which she feels she has any control over. After many years of feeling abandoned and lonely she sets off to college to start a new life and become a new person. Wanting to wash away her past and change the person she used to be she sets out to do just that.

For me Changing Tunes is a story about a girl who has to overcome her past and learn to deal with things that she cannot change but also learn from her past and set out to create her own future, one where she can choose what her future is going to be. Ashley needs to truly learn who she truly is to accomplish what she sets out to do. Never relying on anyone she learns to open up knowing that by doing that she is leaving herself open to get hurt but trusting in the people around her to not hurt her. I loved her strength and her character. She didn’t pretend to be someone she wasn’t and she owned her shit.

When Zeke shows up into her life, Ashley’s walls start to crumble. Zeke has his own past and his own secrets but when he looks at her all he sees is the beautiful side of Ashley and the sadness in her eyes that he can’t help but want to change. Terrified of his feelings for her they agree on being “just friends” but the fireworks that Heather gives us with those 2, I knew they were anything but “just friends”. Feelings ignite and walls start to crumble and little by little Ashley lets Zeke into her world never giving too much but giving more to him than she has given to anyone else. Zeke has secrets of his own that he keeps from her, not knowing if its something she can handle. He knew that she was the one for him, and with that, he knew he needed to lay all his secrets out there and hope that Ashley can excerpt him and everything that he is.

Can Ashley truly take charge of her future and be the person she so desperately wants to be? Will Zeke’s secret destroy the future he wants so badly with Ashley? Or will they accept each other’s pasts and learn to grow together towards their future?

Changing Tunes is an amazing story about healing and learning to become a better person. Heather gives us a story full of challenges and hard choices and characters that are so easy to fall in love with. Changing Tunes is a passion filled story that will make you want to invest your time into the characters and the story and see where their journey will take them.

Full Blog Post @Book-Marks the Spot

I read Changing Tunes in one day, it was just that good. It was actually Easter Sunday and I started reading it after church. I should have waited because I had a rough draft for an essay due the next day and I had nothing written. lol The book was hard to resist, so I gave in. I’m only giving it 4 stars because of one thing in the book.

1. Ashley only ever talked about herself to her friend Mac. They said they are best friends but Mac was the one getting everything off her chest. She never asks Mac about her past and we don’t really learn a lot about her. I mean they are best friends they should know these things…right?

I didn’t like Ashley at first. I totally understood where she was coming from. No, I’ve never slept with a guy, but that’s not my point. Ashley’s whole life had been decided for her without her consent. If she doesn’t do what her dad wants she will be cut off. So she sleeps with guys and takes control because she thinks that the only place where she can make the decisions. You can see that she changed from who she used to be ans is trying to become a better person. Mac and Zeke make her want to be a better person and they encourage her along the way. She had other friends as well and they all have their stamps on mine and Ashley’s hearts. This book is about coming to terms with who you are and what you want to be. It’s about taking control of your life and doing what’s best for you. It’s about a girl who’s been through a lot and who has maybe found someone to fill in the empty space in her heart.

4 STARS

Mac is bubbly and just a wonderful friend and person. Ashley was so lucky to be roomed with her. We hardly know anything about her past or what she wants, but we do know she would do anything for those she loves.

Ashley is a little full of herself, but you can’t change who you are overnight. She gradually moves forward in the novel and we genuinely come to care about her. She is strong and scared, but most people would be scared in her situation. She has my respect.

Zeke with his chocolate eyes and glasses with his baseball build. He is tall and yummy. I want to find my sexy smart guy somewhere lol Zeke has issues as well but not like Ashley. He has a lot of trust issues, but more along the lines of not wanting to get attached. It was fun to watch them resist each other. *snickers* Suckers.

3 stars - liked it

Ashley is actually an antagonist side-character from the Love Notes books by the same author. She used to be the classic "mean girl" in high school until something happened that changed her views.
Now, attending college, she wants a change - a new beginning. Try to distance herself from people as much as possible, she still manages to meet a couple of people that will change her world of "family" and "home" nonetheless. One of them is the geekish hottie Zeke whom she immediately feels attracted to. But they both have excess baggage and plans they want to stick to - plans that don't involve any sexy bed sheet involvement and especially not more than that! But can they really stay away from each other when fate obviously have other plans for them?

First of all, I adored the Love Notes series so much. I freaking loved the characters and really hated their antagonist (e.g. Ashley). But what happened to her made me curious how her life will continue afterwards, so I naturally was super interested in this book. Unfortunately, it got forgotted on my Kindle for .... nearly two years (I know, I am sorry).
Now that I finally was able to read it, I find myself engulfed in the charming fluffy world of the author once again. It was cute and had a lot of "coincidence" included which made the instant conncetion between Ashley and Zeke even more adorable. Additionally to all the fluff, there was also a lot of hot steamy and raw emotions. A really sexy physical attraction that made me want them to finally get together so badly!
The book also touched on some serioues issues like sexual assault, rape culture, and sexual harassment. It was hard for Ashley to deal with all of it but I am glad that the book showed that it is possible to overcome those problems if you are willing to do so.

I gave it three stars since it was cute fluffy quick-read but not more than that. It was a rather superficial plot and the problems in the story were just created for plot purposes only. Things that weren't actual problems but.. you know, stuff that can only happen and be real in books. For a quick fluff-read, it's still recommendable.

College is a time of change. A time to re-invent yourself, maybe to be more open and friendly, maybe to be more studious and serious. For Ashley it is her time to come into her own. To let go of her mean girl persona, but can she actually do it? She has no friends, honestly has no idea how to even be a friend. Her past is nipping at her heels- an overbearing distant father, an assault that she can’t forget and a mother that she misses everyday. Ashley is truly so innocent at times as she navigates her way.

How was HG able to make me love Ashley?!?!? And Zeke is just so wonderful, complex and funny. Love the alpha caveman that surprises him every time it rears its jealous head! He has found his home and heart with Ashley, yet realizes she has a lot of healing to do. Will she run when his secret is told?

Ashley has so many false starts as her true self. Fortunately Mac- room mate extraordinaire- is there to be exactly what Ashley needs, a friend. No secret agenda, no ulterior motive. Even while Ashley reverts to her old ways she is amazed that Mac remains available. Mac’s honesty and genuine heart are beautiful. While I believe that Mac has some deep down pain and hurt she is the voice of reason that helps to center Ashley when she spins and tries to run away.

Completely understand how the group of friends Mac and Ashley surround themselves with are guys. They don’t play the games that girls often do. Create a small family together. I believe Ryanne will be a good fit.

There is no huge explosive climax to this story- more like subtle flashes. Many truths come out and hearts and minds are opened. Lots of growing and forgiveness, but also some letting go- of the bad, the pain and the past. This book gives more meaning to the phrase “your past does not define you”. Genuine friendship that grew into a strong and healing love for both Ashley and Zeke…and can’t forget Lara.

really enjoyed this sweet romance, there was enough twists to keep me entertained although I kinda guessed the ending pretty early I still enjoyed the read.

Ashley was the 'Mean' girl in high school, she saw something she went after it mainly her friends boyfriends, because of this she has never had any real friends. When she arrives at college Ashley is determined to change this vowing to not go after a friends guy again. Ashley's mother left the family when Ashley was young, since then her rich controlling father has made every decision for her. With the help of her first ever real friend Mac Ashley starts to make some huge decisions for her self. One decision that seems to be out of her hands is falling for her chemistry partner Zeke.

Zeke has to focus, no distractions he has people who are counting on him and he can't let them down, but his heart isn't listening when he starts to fall for his chemistry partner Sexy leggy Ashley Davis.

As I said I did enjoy this sexy sweet romance, but I feel there was parts that Heather glossed over to quickly, the whole Mr Forseter incident could have been a lot better, it was a bit of nothing really , we didn't get to see Ashley reunited with her mother , I wanted her to say so much more to her father In their big confrontation and I also felt the ending was rushed. There are some very touching chapters my favourite one being when we discover Zeke's big secret, very heartfelt chapter.
All in all it's a good read and I I would defiantly read the rest of this series.

I really wanted more from the characters and a little more time exploring why Ashley and Zeke were so drawn together. I wanted to believe their connection but I didn't. Maybe a little more time spent on building it would have helped. I did like the secondary characters and I have a feeling this is going to be a great series that gives each one of them their time in the spotlight.

Overall it just didn't come out on top for me but it could work for others!

Heather Gunter sure writes emotional, sweet and sexy stories. Ashely turned me off immediately, she was bitchy, rude and so stuck on herself in the beginning but you learn why she's the way she is, and feel for her and want to hug her. I give a lot of credit to Mac, she pulled Ashley out of her misery and helped her face her fathers demands and the past head on, loved Mac from beginning to end. Can't wait for Mac to get her HEA. Ashley grew on me as the story continued and I actually started really liking her and wanting her happy. Zeke is sexy, sweet, loving and just a total hotty, I loved his character and loved him even more as he shares more about himself. I loved these too together, they are perfect for each other. Loved all the guys too...well, once they got their heads out of their asses..lol. I thought the story was very emotional and sexy and loving all in one, can't wait for the next one. 4 stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com

So I never read heart strings but was told I didn't have to but from the jist of things I would've hated her; well let me just say. I loved Ashlee in changing tunes. She tried her hardest to change for the better and get some respect off her daddy, but lets faces it that was never going to happen not with the type of person her was. I really liked all the characters on changing tunes. Nick and Austin were just funny and like the brother Ashlee never had. Mac was the best friend and sister Ashlee has never had and Zeke well he was just Zeke. But he has a massive secret, how will it play out when Zeke tells Ashlee what his big secret is and she realises he could've told her before. Will she run or will she stand by her man? Will Ashlee finally cut the apron strings from daddy and stand on her own to feet?

This is the first book by Heather Gunter that I've had a chance to read, and I'm so thrilled to be able to add her to my list of favorites! I wasn't sure how I felt about Ashley (the heroine) when I started reading, but by the end, I was totally in her corner, rooting for her all the way! Zeke is pretty yummy as well. I loved the friendships that were made between Ashley, Mac, Austin, Nick and Ian. They sound like a great group of friends. I look forward to reading more by this talented, emotional author!

[2.5 stars] 1st time reading a book from this author, not a bad book i would say. i think it will inspire people who wants to change but doesn't have the courage to do it. the future lies in individual's hands and all they need is a little help & push.

but i think zeke's part was too little, and also zeke's family background is not mention much. also nothing much about zeke's past with ex-gf and how he end up with lara. i think more explanation would be great. some chapters is real short and some chapters are real long, i think might be good to balance them out.

It was a cute story. Though i just didn't think it was written well. I liked Ashley's character, but I didn't like Zeke's that much. He just wasn't written well. I also saw the plot twist coming from Zeke's first chapter. A lot of Zeke's chapters also seemed pointless. Only put there to get his thoughts on a scene that already happened and to hint at his secret. I'm not sure if I would recommend it to read.

5 Blushing Stars!!!!!

I just loved this book! I love how the author can bring out emotions for the characters and make us fall in love with them, get angry with them, sympathize with them. I am a huge fan of Heather Gunter's writing. The books are sweet, emotional, deal with realistic issues. You will love them, so do yourself a favor and #oneclick it now

I am not a huge fan of YA - college themed stories but I'm really glad I gave this book a chance. It was a pleasant surprise, really enjoyed the story. Can't wait to read the next book, curious to see who the roommate ends up with!

I don't know if i'm getting really good at predicting plot twists or if the plot twists themselves are predictable. Either way, I totally saw the OMG moments coming.
Review to come.
