———my thoughts———
There is no author who can write emotions like Eliza Anne.
You don’t just read them...you feel them too.
Her writing has this beautifully haunting lyrical quality, and it’s the reason I end up sobbing my heart out with each book of hers I read.
Seventeen Minutes is particularly special to me, because it’s about my favourite character from The Echoist—Addie.
Told through Addie, and her husband James’ POVs, Seventeen Minutes is the perfect companion to The Echoist.
Addie and James’s healing relationship, in comparison to Bryce and Tatum’s abusive one.
It’s the other half of the story.
And while it is about healing, it does contain many vivid flashback scenes of abuse—so please, please read the trigger warnings.
While this novella truly is about Addie, James plays such a large part—not only as her husband, but as her therapist and dream interpreter.
Dream interpretation isn’t something I’ve heard of extensively, so it fascinated me when it appeared in The Echoist, and in more detail here.
But I’m getting off topic.
Anyway, James is perfect.
Caring and compassionate, he’s the soft to wear down Addie’s hard edges.
They’re the perfect couple, and it’s beautiful to see how much they care for each other.
They’re truly soulmates.
And this book must be two-thirds of the size of The Echoist, but it still managed to leave an even bigger hole in my heart than the first book.
I remember exactly when I finished it (2am in the morning) just crying.
I can’t tell if I cried more here, or with The Echoist...but what I do know is that however much I love Tatum, Addie will always be my favourite.
————quotes————
“Don’t you want to grow old and gray together?”
“Knowing she was fighting her mental demons alone made me want to jump from this bed and rush to my office. But the rational part of my brain kept me firmly rooted in place. I didn’t want to keep her from entering the dream into her journal while it was still fresh in her mind.”
“I love you for you. Not for any potential future we may or may not have.”
“I will take care of your body as soon as I take care of your mind, Addison,”
“Talk to me, Addie,”
“I would find you in every single lifetime.”
“No matter how much he gave me, it would never be enough.”

This book kind of healed me AND broke me?
Thanks for reading! ❤️
