McBurney chooses three exceptional individuals to research and compare in his attempt to understand the subject of his book, ARTISTIC GREATNESS.

I thought each of his chapters – on Michelangelo, Beethoven and Monet – were fascinating. Perhaps they were not scholarly in the usual sense but they were well written and encapsulated much of what is interesting and relevant about each man and his place in the social environment of his time.

As an extraordinarily lucky person who is well acquainted with the products of these artistic geniuses, I recommend this book
