She’s a loner, she likes to fight and, oh yeah...she has the ability to see the demons that lay beneath the faces of ordinary humans. It’s a gift Charlie Wright inherited the night her parents were brutally murdered when she was fourteen years old.
Now in her last year of high school, Charlie just can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble. Rather than taking a one-way trip to juvenile detention, Charlie chooses to join a mysterious group called The ForeverLand Alliance.
And then her life really gets weird.
Charlie finds herself magically transported to an alternate universe. In Semper Terra, no one ages, people fly, and one stunningly gorgeous, immortal man manages to capture Charlie’s heart and awaken the adult woman she is becoming.
But it’s not all fun and games. For Charlie is training to become an Annihilator, a select group of Semper Terrans who protect mankind from all of those things that go “bump in the night”.
It’s only when Charlie finds herself stuck in the middle of a prophecy that could bring about the end of the world that she truly begins to understand the deep sacrifices she will have to make.

It started off & I wondered which direction it was headed...the story then picked up and I am intrigued! The characters were interesting. The writing was great (I love Sawyer Bennett - her "Off Series" is one of my favorites!)
This book is a great series builder. I can not wait for the next one!
My favorite quote from this book: "...don't ever let anyone, yourself included, diminish your worth. We are all important in this life."
I’m super excited to have found a new YA/NA series that I’m totally in to! This first book in The Foreverland Chronicles introduces us to Charlie, Caiden, and a whole cast of great supporting characters. Forever Young has magic, romance, action, and quite a few surprises. I really enjoyed this book but it is clear that the story has only just begun.
Charlie is my favorite kind of strong, kick-ass heroine. She stands up for herself, but more importantly, she strives to stand up for others. Charlie is special, not just human special, but supernaturally gifted. Still, she’s a well balanced character: funny and humble and a little insecure. I love the crew of friends she makes; I’m reminded of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and another epic battle between good and evil. Bennett has created a group of characters that I couldn’t help but become invested in.
This book has something for our romance fans as well. There’s no shortage of hot men and brave fighters, but the cream of the crop is Caiden. There’s a hint of forbidden romance between he and Charlie, as there is quite an age difference, but their romance remains mostly chaste. This interesting couple’s strong chemistry promises much more to come.
“Reaching out, he grabbed my chin gently and tilted my head up to him so I was forced to look up into his eyes. ‘Because, Charlie… I do like you. A little too much.’ “
Clever references to Peter Pan, a great supporting cast, the promise of an epic battle between good and evil, sweet romance, a kick-ass heroine, and an action packed climax highlighted by some BIG surprises all combine in this great series debut. I have high hopes for this series and can’t wait for more!
“My heart swelled with the sudden realization that I was truly not alone. I was surrounded by friends that would lay down their lives beside mine in the quest to make sure that good overcame evil.”
*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I cannot get this book out of my head! We are talking full and total hangover here. It has been days and I have not been able to get my head out of Semper Terra.
Charlie is everything I could want in a female protagonist. She is smart, strong, and confident all while retaining that essential feminine flare. She has had a difficult adolescence, but instead of letting it ruin her it made her stronger. She fights for what she believes is right and faces the consequences as they come. Caiden is major book boyfriend material. He is strong, sensitive, sexy as all get out, and has a sense of humor that actually made me laugh out loud a few times. We don't get to know too much about Caiden in this book, but we do learn is more than enough for me to know I adore this man!
Semper Terra is a beautiful world that I wish I could visit. I honestly wish I was artistically inclined so that I could pull the picture Sawyer Bennett created for me out of my head and share it all with you, but I'm not. So I can't. You'll just have to read it yourself! Forever Yong might just make the short list of books I have re-read very very soon, I'm not sure I can wait for book 2 to come out before I get myself a Caiden fix!
Strong Heroine - Recommend read to fans of YA paranormal
I love a kick-ass heroine, and Charlie Wright fits the bill plus more. The story moved fluidly with very well developed characters. Charlie and her classmates find themselves in their freshman year training to rid the world of evil for us mere morals. This type of young adult, paranormal genre isn’t my normal bookshelf reading material. However, on occasion I like to venture out of the norm and visit other genres to engage my emotions in different ways. I was pleasantly surprised and engrossed into the story that hours seem to slip by until I reach ‘the end’.
I’m a self-professed Sawyer Bennett fan. I love her style of writing and character development. I know when I pick up a piece that is written by her, I will be thoroughly entertained. And I was not disappointed. This is a novel I can see wholly recommend to any age group that is looking for likeable characters placed in realistic (for paranormal) situations. The novel is definitely the start of series of stories, but the ending doesn’t leave you hanging.
Normally I am not a fan of books featuring the whole young-girl-falls-for-guy-hundreds-of-years-older thing, but I truly enjoyed this story. Charlie is a likable protagonist, and well...Caiden is just droolworthy. I was a little disappointed that this story seemed to be primarily world building and introducing the characters with just a smattering of plot added at the end of the book, but I liked the characters well enough to stick with it, and will definitely read the second book whenever it comes out.
I am a huge Sawyer Bennett fan! I was super excited when I learned I would be reviewing this book for Novel Grounds.
Charlie is a 17year old part orphan, part juvenile delinquent. She is quick to defend someone in need and often takes the blame. She has a good heart, still healing from the recent loss of her parents. She is a social outcast in ever since of the word and I truly felt emotionally attached to her right from the beginning. Internally she feels a lot of guilt and a bit of uneasiness. Since her parents death she has been able to see faces morph and of course believes she is now part crazy.
Her life soon starts to spiral for a totally different reason. Her high school principal turned friend invites her to meet a friend of his. Soon to find out this "friend" will be transporting her to an alternate universe .. she is skeptical to say the least. Once on the other side she feels at home. There are other kids like her, mentors that welcome her, basically a new world for her to immerse herself in. Enrolling in school to become an annihilated, basically a bad ass whose whole mission is to annihilate the bad guys, seems like the next logical step. Just when she thinks things are falling into place she thrown a few curve balls.
I didn't get a chance to read a synopsis of this book before officially starting to read. I must admit I was not prepared to read a paranormal type of story from Sawyer. This book is such a change from her Off series, but just as interesting :)
I loved the characters in this book, especially Charlie and Emerson. Those girls had my heart. I thought the book kept me very engaged and had me wondering what would happen around every corner. As soon as I started reading the book and found out about the other universe, I felt like I had an idea of where the story was going .. and I did. Forever Young is set up to be the first in a great series and I can not wait to see where this journey takes us.

I’m not usually a fan of Young Adult fiction. The only YA series that I will willingly admit that I’ve read and liked is The Vampire Academy, and I think this comes down to the fact that it’s not really a true YA book, but when I found out that Sawyer Bennett had written Forever Young, I thought I’d have to swallow my general disdain for YA and read, read away. After all, she totally turned me onto New Adult, so why wouldn’t I like a YA book she’s written?
I have to start by saying that I didn’t even read the blurb for Forever Young. I just saw Bennett’s name on the cover and knew it would be a good read. And it was. Right off the bat, we can see how Charlotte “Charlie” Wright – a seventeen-year-old girl who has already seen enough in her life to put her in the mental hospital – is driven by a powerful internal desire to save people. You see, Charlie is a bruiser—a self-admitted lover of knock-down-drag-out fights, which ultimately gets her into a lot of trouble.
After a particular fight, Charlie thinks she’s going to be sent to juvie. Instead, she is introduced to a man who can offer her the world—a safe place to live, friends and a weapon to keep protecting those she sees as needing help. She’s taken to Semper Terra, or Forever Land, and place where magic exists and anything is possible—including flight.
With Charlie’s journey of self-discovery and training, we’re introduced to some amazingly sexy, amazingly sweet, amazingly supportive and amazingly funny characters. These people support Charlie and by the end, we even see some characters we thought would never change, slowly warm to Charlie.
So, what did I really think of Forever Young? Honestly? I liked it. It was incredibly creative and interesting. Bennett’s descriptions of the lush, tropical land of Semper Terra are incredibly vivid. After reading a few lines of the description and layout of the land, I could visualize it in my head – from the lagoon to the beach to the rustic-style beach houses.
The concept of the whole book is also incredibly interesting. What I wouldn’t give to have a peek into Ms. Bennett’s head to see how she cooks up these ideas. There are daimons (demons) which live among the humans, and which are hunted by members of the Alliance who live in Semper Terra. I love this quote, and I really think it demonstrates a lot:
“They are just like the human race. Some are good, and some are evil, and some are hanging on the edge, not sure which way to fall.”
We can see aspects of Bennett throughout the book, including her love for mythology re: Athena, her love of the Irish accent (which comes into its own in Off Course) and her general snark and good humor which is lent to Charlie’s character. There were so many good little one-liners in there that had me grinning.
Was it as good as her later Off Series? In my opinion, probably not, but that largely has to do with how reserved some characters and scenes are in YA in general, although Bennett does write some sweet kissing scenes. It’s also nice that the focus is not all about lust, rather Charlie enjoys the company of a certain guy, loving the way he makes her feel about herself, how he supports her through the trials and tribulations she has to endure.
If I really think about it, I’m not sure what makes Forever Young so different; I mean, I can see Bennett’s writing style from the Off Series in there, but it’s almost ‘diluted’, I guess. Her style has certainly come a long way in an incredibly short amount of time since this was released in January of this year.
I'll definitely be picking up book two in this series because everyone loves a heroine that wields a battle axe like a boss
So, apparently Sawyer Bennett is even more crazy talented than I knew. Not only can she write hot, sweet and sexy new adult books, but, go figure, she can also write some amazing YA urban fantasy too. Who knew?
In Forever Young, Charlie is a loner with no family and no friends, struggling to make it through high school without getting expelled when she's discovered by those from Semper Terra, an alternate universe. Charlie's unique ability to see daimons underneath their human facade makes her a perfect candidate to enter training in Semper Terra to become an Annihilator, badass fighters charged with ridding both our world and others of these dark daimons. Semper Terra is an amazing opportunity for Charlie. She can have a real home, friends, a boyfriend and an exciting career. If she can stay alive long enough, that is.
I love urban fantasy. The melding together of the real and the unreal, especially when done well, makes for the best of stories. It makes the crazy stuff so much more believable when there's some truth involved. In this case, there are many other alternate universes, but the main one is Semper Terra, a place that exists parallel to our own world. In Semper Terra, the sky is always blue, there is no drinking age, the mermaids spout prophecies and you can fly once you get your tattoo imbibed with magic.
However perfect Semper Terra is, even it is not immune to mean girls and gangsters. The school that Charlie attends to learn to become an Annihilator is very Harry Potterish. The students study subjects like magic theory and demonology. In between theory classes, they have flying lessons and weapon practicums. Sounds like a pretty awesome place to me. I've always loved boarding school stories. I think it's such a cool and noble thing to train young brave kids to go out and fight the evils of the world.
And, Charlie has certainly put in her time in the real world. She saw her parents killed. The state didn't want her. She's smart and gets good grades, but the brawler in her prevented her from keeping a clean record. Semper Terra and the prospect of fighting evil daimons is the answer to Charlie's prayers. She didn't have friends or people she loved in the real world (a.k.a. First Dimension). Within days of landing in Semper Terra, Charlie makes two BFFEs - Justus and Emerson. Both these side characters were amazing. Shy and sweet Emerson and goofy and charismatic Justus were perfect complements to Charlie.
And then there's Caiden. Now, Forever Young is a YA novel. Unlike the other books by Sawyer Bennett that I've read (like, her Off series - amazing, BTW), this book doesn't have any f-bombs or super sexy times. The one thing it DOES have is a super sexy guy. Caiden is the immortal, slightly tortured soul who falls in love with Charlie, and vice versa. I have to say, although I loved Caiden and Charlie as individual characters, I had a hard time believing them as a couple. The chemistry just wasn't there for me, and you don't know how much it pains me to say that.
The final battle was super exciting, and the prophecy that's thrown in toward the end keeps me engaged for future installments in the story line. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. I can't wait to see Charlie come into her own. Look for the next book in The Foreverland Chronicles to come out in early 2014.
The writing style was way off, the storyline was done crappy-like, the characters weren't relatable....I got an ARC copy for the blog tour, it looks like I have to change my stop. *sigh* I was really excited to read this, but sadly I was mistaken. I don't recommend this book to any reader with a particular genre. This was really REALLY sloppy.

I think I just skimmed through the book, I don't think Sawyer's writing style and I will ever get along, I've read her other books and the highest score I had given her was around 3 or 3.5 stars. Bullshit! This story had a lot of potential, really, but when it comes to progress and introduction Sawyer falls downs and she doesn't climb up. Her story is not walking straight, it should stay focus, but it felt like a bumpy road I couldn't balance through, I couldn't connect with this book. As in, none at all. You will face instalove (I hate those) Annoying frenemies....(Kinda love that) Suddenly strong character (Yawns) Hero complexity (Well, that's new to me)
Basically, when I was reading I had to reread again and again just to let it stay inside my fuzzy head, I got really distracted with other things that I found my dog more amusing than this. I don't mean to sound too demented or truculent, but I love magic and romance, but Sawyer wasn't able to pull it off, her story seemed to falter and fade. She's losing her glow, but that's only in my opinion. She writes too simple that I can't imagine anything, her imagery looks gray and her characters act like puppets with no heart. Literally. And also she kept repeating similar words again and again. I don't find that alluring or conquering.
What I wanted in this book was action and drama, but I got instalove and shit! This is a definite no no to me, I can't understand anything from this book. She didn't offer any details enough for me to stop wrinkling my forehead, her story was difficult to understand. Fantasy is a hard genre to use, but this type of fantasy isn't as complicated as it should have been. She made it really simple and easy for her readers to get used to, but I felt like I was reading some Child's book. Man, I sound so cruel, but I need to say it publicly that this is not for fantasy-romance readers. You will hate it. This doesn't mean I'll give up on Sawyer Benett, just because she failed to impress me on Forever Young doesn't mean I won't read her books anymore, she has a lot of potential so I'm eagerly waiting for her next novel. The trophy book. :)
What would you do if you were given the chance to start over? Would you take it?
Charlie is on her own because both of her parents tragically taken from her when she was only 13 years old. At a time when most girls need their mother more than they would like to admit. Sadly, Charlie was shuffled around from foster home to foster home until she became a ward of the state.
Dr. Tinsdale the school principal would say, "Trouble always seems to find you, Charlie."
It was not like Charlie was going looking for trouble, but she found herself coming to the defense of those less fortunate more often then not. Protecting others was engrained in her as her parents had protected her.
It seems her most recent altercation might land her in some serious trouble, so, when Dr. Tinsdale offered her an out she did not have much choice but to take it. He introduces her to his friend Sebastian and when Sebastian showed Charlie what her life could be like, she was blown away. Semper Terra is the most beautiful place that Charlie has ever seen, and when Caiden walks in, her heart flutters, and she is captivated by is gorgeous good looks. But looks can be deceiving...
Caiden is a mentor and is smitten with Charlie from the moment he sees her. He does his best to keep his distance and remain professional as he trains with Charlie. He does not understand the pull Charlie has on him. He has dated many beautiful women but something is different about Charlie. As soon as she completes her training he throws caution the wind...
Then there is this whole prophecy thing. Just yesterday Charlie was an ordinary girl. Now she is expected to save the world?
I love the way that Sawyer has me completely enraptured in Semper Terra. I can feel the sun shining and hear the waves crashing on the beach. I feel as if I have been whisked away to neverland. Of course the character development in this story is stupendous. I see myself in Charlie. I was always getting into trouble trying to take down the bullies. I had more suspensions then any other honor student in the history of the school. I felt like Sawyer did and excellent job with Charlie in showing how much she truly cared for others. Caiden took my breath away. He is such a gentleman and a perfect hero to Charlies heroine. Forever Young is passionate love story about first loves. I truly enjoyed this read and I hope to see Charlie and Caiden's relationship grow even stronger in book two.
If you are a fan of paranormal romance, and want to start a sweet new series, you should pick up Forever Young.
After reading Sawyer Bennett's Off Series I was definitely excited by her choice to pursue writing for a young adult audience, particularly in the paranormal genre. Forever Young has an interesting premise; Charlie is an orphan, she is a good student but has no interests outside school other than fighting; and not pulling hair, but punching and kicking. She is chosen to enter Semper Terra to train as an Annihilator, a Daimon hunter. I felt that the initial chapters of the story are like a whirlwind and so much occurs the reader fails to get a true sense of Charlie's true character. Although Sawyer Bennett does rectify this later in the story most of Charlie's most open moments are not told in first person, 'I opened up to him about all of my guilt and pain over my parent's murders. I told him things I had not even told my therapists.' Apart from creating the mythical land of Semper Terra, where my hair would never have to be dyed again and I could drink Ben's cocktails every day in Cafe Syreni, Sawyer Bennett has been able to maintain one of the strongest elements of her storytelling; her characterisation and the relationships they share. Obviously Charlie is at the centre; strong-willed, passionate and instinctive. No girl should be without a gay best friend so meet Justas, the non-stereotypical, fist-bumping, beer-drinking, football-watching demon hunter! They are joined by Emerson, the youngest of the initiates, quietly brave and loyal and an orphan like Charlie. The three are close, supporting each other and enjoying down-time together. Ben is the owner of Cafe Syreni, cocktail maker extraordinaire and a Light Daimon. He and Charlie have a truthful friendship; I think Ben may be one of my favourite characters and I would definitely love to see more of him later in the series. Of course there is Caiden. From the beginning there is chemistry between Charlie and Caiden but a BIG age gap and the instructor/student line, amongst other obstacles stop them from being together. They do share a friendship though, which is open and honest and I think Caiden is the missing piece Charlie needs to embrace who she really is. I enjoy the way in which Sawyer Bennett develops their relationship, in line with the plot, and though I am not sure Caiden has official 'book boyfrined' status yet I am sure it will not be long! I think Forever Young is a great book, with plenty of action to kep the reader interested. I will be waiting for book 2!
Charlie is an orphan who is very big on fights but at least she gives the person a warning before she throws the punches. Her last fight was the principal's last straw, but rather then sending her to juvie he sends her to get training as an Annihilator. The annihilators are a group of people who destroy Daimons.
Now since I'm pretty big on covers because the cover is pretty much the first impression the reader gets I want to talk about it for a bit. For those of you who didn't know I've noticed there was two covers for this book, I think the second one is the library version of the cover what ever that means. (Maybe I got my info mixed or maybe this was just previous cover and the new one just replaced it) Regardless I love the new cover. The new cover is simple, pretty and personally it caught my eye. The second cover (The one with the Axe) I think the cover suits the book more, its pretty but idk something seems cheesy and off about it. If this book had the second (Axe) cover personally probably wouldn't have read the book, not even looking at what its content. I know I shouldn't base a book by its cover but I'm a sucker for pretty covers. I love the new choice of the cover.
"...Don't ever let anyone, yourself included, diminish your worth. We are all important in this life."
Now on to the book, this book reminded me of Vampire Academy and House of Night minus the vampires. You are a fan of Richelle Mead and P.C. Cast books this book might appeal to you.
Just knowing this book is by Sawyer Bennett I knew that I wouldn't be disappointed. I've read many books from this author and found myself loving each book from her. I loved how different this book was even if it reminded me of those other two books. I loved the characters and loved how brave, strong and caring Charlie was. I loved how she would help those she doesn't even know and would risk getting in trouble to do something right. Well, maybe she could've done something differently rather than throwing a punch. I love the mix between reality and fantasy. I think that this book has come to a great start for the the series with character building and introducing this new world/dimensions.
Overall I loved the book and look forwards to seeing more of this series by the author. I highly recommend you lovely readers to check it out. 4.5 of 5 Stars!
This book was such a different read from what I’m used to reading by Sawyer Bennett, but it certainly didn’t disappoint. Think Vampire Academy meets The Mortal Instruments. That’s right… sounds amazing already doesn’t it!
I will admit, I’m always a little hesitant to read books in different genres by the same author. I know how that sounds, but I think you have to be a really amazing author to be successful in more than one genre. Well, Ms. Bennett is clearly amazing! I absolutely adored her OFF series, but Forever Young was a breather from the sexual intensity of the OFF series. Forever Young is more of a YA, with some lustful musings of course (hello, teenager!), and I expect the sexual aspect to probably intensify as the series progresses. The romance aspect of this book is more on the sweet and sensitive side with a young heroine just discovering herself in so many ways and a considerate, mostly level-headed, gentleman type love interest.
Like many of Bennett’s characters, Charlie comes from a pretty screwed up background. She witnessed a brutal crime at a young age, and her life has been shaped by her experience. The ForeverLand Alliance provides her with an opportunity that her past has shaped her for. Unfortunately for Charlie, there are some pretty bad things that come along with the good.
Bennett did a wonderful job creating the world that Forever Young takes place in. The history of Semper Terra is detailed enough for the reader to be satisfied while leaving just enough to the imagination. The Academy is intriguing and the high school type drama that comes with such an adult type of training balances out very well. The characters are well developed with plenty of room to grow throughout the series.
I loved this book, and I am very much looking forward to more. More ForeverLand, more Charlie, and certainly more Caiden (that would be the gentlemanly hottie of the book). If you’ve loved Sawyer Bennett’s other books, but are hesitant to pick up Forever Young because of the genre change, I strongly recommend it. I mean, come on, has she ever let readers down before? You won’t be sorry, and you just might find a new book boyfriend in Caiden.
***** I received an ARC copy for an honest review *****
First I have to say that I love Sawyer Bennett books and I am a fan of her work, I have read all the off series and I love it, when I started reading this book I did not know what to expect, and oh boy I am glad I got to read it I love it, and love the characters.
This book has comedy, lots of drama, romance, and a lot of flirting going on, the characters are well writing, their emotion are well developed, and this story will not get you confuse at all and it has it's twist and surprises and I love it.
Charlie Wright is a loner, she loves to fight, and when I say fight I mean she love to kick and punch, none of that girlie fight, but the raw punching kind of fights, and she has a gift that she inherit it after the death of her parents and that's is that she could see demons, she is not afraid to speak her mind and she will tell you things how they are, I love her bad girl attitude.
The story beginnings with Charlie walking down the hall of her school getting ready to go home, when she hears some one whimper she notice that it was coming from the boys bathroom, she decide to go check since she new someone was in trouble, when she wen in the boys bathroom that's when she seen them three kids picking on a young girl, and Charlie end up getting into a fight with them, from their she though that her principal was gone send her to juvenile detention, but then she met Sebastian and he took her to a hole new world, that's when the totally handsome Hottie of Caiden Gallagher, and her world comes up side down.
I love seen Charlie and Caiden go at it with their flirtation, and how Caiden make it to train her and tell her more about their land. I really enjoy reading this book and I love how this book turned out to be THANK YOU AUTHOR Sawyer Bennett for another amazing, awesome story.
Whether it is a contemporary romance or a Young Adult paranormal, Sawyer Bennett writes beautiful, character-centric, stories. Forever Young is a prime example. Charlie is an orphan. She is labeled by many as a trouble-maker because she gets into fights. Yet, when she fights, it is always about protecting the underdog, vulnerable and weak. At her heart, she is always trying to stick up for what is right. In this universe, she is misunderstood. She is given a opportunity to enter an alternate reality in which people are trained to fight evil in the other world. Here, Charlie finally finds a place to belong, grow, and experience success.
At it's center, this book is about being misunderstood and finally finding a place to belong. It is also about fighting for the right to stay in that place. If you've ever felt a sense of alienation, of being misunderstood, you can relate to this story. We also get to be a part as Charlie gets to experience affection and love. I appreciate the restraint in which Ms. Bennett writes the attraction between Charlie and Caiden. Ms Bennett connects us through strong emotions, not just physical contact. There is the perfect amount of attraction for a Young Adult book and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for YA fans and younger teenage readers.
IN A NUTSHELL: This is book one, so there is a lot of world building. It is a great set up for the series and I look forward to seeing how Charlie grows and evolves. I'm in!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my gosh! I am in love with this story. Sawyer must be working on a sequel! It is a must!!
It has just enough fantasy and reality mixed with a slowly building love story! I love that Charlie, the 17 year old borderline juvenile delinquent, has taken to her new role as a fighter of evil. It is so sweet that Caiden, her mentor, her protector, has found a soft spot for the Charlie. For Charlie being 17 years old, she has never had a true love, a boyfriend, never been kissed and has had no desire for any of the above. She has just focused on getting through school, knowing that being the smartest one will be the only way to change her life with a scholarship to college. She knew that once she was considered a "Ward of the State", after her parents tragic death, that she had no choices but to exceed. With Caiden's help, she going to do just that! Not only is she going to find out what a real first kiss is like, she is going to be challenged by her training in "Forever Land".
Their is something fun and exciting seeing Charlie going over to "Forever Land" to train and develop her unique abilities. Having the ability see peoples faces morph into their true selves is something I think all of us wish we could do! Anyway, I love the surprise ending! It was not a true cliff hanger, but it definitely gives the readers a chance to look forward to another book...hopefully!
I feel I should go on record and admit going in I was a bit nervous about reading Forever Young, because this was a little different from what I'm use to when it comes to Ms. Bennett's writing. While I was a bit hesitate I am super excited that I had the opportunity to indulge myself.
Charlie o Charlie my feelings for her were all over the place I felt sorrowful that she lost both her parents in such a violent manner. i thought she had spunk, that "won't back down" factor, that "underdog looking out for all the other underdogs" appeal. I also felt that she was highly immature and just plain reckless.
Semper Terra reminded me of the atypical high school world filled with mean girls, that one hot special guy and evil teachers. If it wasn't for Charlie's ability to see people true selves and the occasional flying around I would have forgotten the this was in fact a fantasy novel. Which has been awhile since I've read for the was not of this world.
Forever Young was an great way to start a new series, I can't wait to get deeper into this. I will say to other Sawyer Bennett fans who like myself became addicted from the Off Series. Forever Young is much, much more pg-13 while there is some heart stopping kisses, butterflies, and angst, everyone involved keeps there clothes on. Which does not deter from the story.
**Huge thanks to author for providing me with an arc copy in exchange for my honest opinion**
I liked it. Charlie is a little sensitive, a little snarky, and a lot heroic. She'll brawl to help anyone weak defeat their attackers. She doesn't tolerate mean girls and can't understand why the new males in her life find her attractive...particularly Caiden Gallagher, the perpetually youthful 400+ year old Annihilator serving as Charlie's mentor.
Of course, Charlie's mean girls aren't only students--her headmistress Sarah is part of the I-Hate-Charlie club also, mainly because Sarah has a history with Caiden, one she'd like to repeat. The story reminds me a bit of Veronica Roth's DIVERGENT without the dystopia and recruit maiming. Charlie must master hand-to-hand combat so she can survive battle. With demons. But only the bad demons, because, for an interesting twist, not all demons are bad. Who knew?
I love Charlie's gay BFF Justas. He's a beefy character, not stereotypically done--think Tiny Cooper--and he's a nice foil to Charlie's occasional pessimism. Plucky Emerson Potts, the tiny black waif recruit, will remind you of Rue (Hunger Games) but we get to know her quite a lot better.
Charlie's doing well in her training, and Caiden is keeping her fantasies filled, but it's Charlie's heart that takes over the story. It's easy to root for a hero, and Charlie defines the archetype. I wasn't surprised by the ambush ending, but I was unsettled by the sudden appearance of Charlie's real father. In all it feels like a good start to a quality series.
I love Sawyer Bennett's Off series and when I found out that she had a paranormal YA series coming out, I HAD to read it (I LOVE paranormal books). This book highlighted Bennett's talent as a writer because it was written differently than her other books. I had to remind myself that the female character and her peers were teenagers and so it was very easy to dive into the book after that. I definitely felt like I was there with Charlie since Bennett painted the surroundings of each scene very clearly, as well as the characters. Oh Caiden. I love me some Irish accents and that definitely had me wanting to read more. Sigh. I wrote this review without any spoilers, although the book has twists and plot points where I want to share with others immediately. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves YA and paranormal in general. I cannot wait to see what unfolds in the next book and hopefully, more romance would be included in future books along with the mystery and action that was very much present in this first book.
Friendless, Homeless, and ready for a fight are words that commonly describe Charlie Wright. After seeing her parents murdered, Charlie has resorted to fighting for the underdog. Of course she doesn't admit she sees the facade behind everyone she comes in contact with, the people with discolored skin or horns or that matter, Charlie keeps that to herself.
After another bout , her principal introduces her to a man who will change her life. He introduces hr to a whole different dimension that fights against demons and has Charlie entering an Academy that trains future demon hunters. It should be fairly easy but Charlie finds herself attracted to an annihilator who has caught the attention of another, not to mention there are those who would be thrilled to have Charlie not succeed.
I have not been this excited about a series in awhile. I thought this was a fantastic read, Charlie is badass and if I could revert back a few years (okay maybe a lot), I would want to be her. Five Stars all around, exciting, enticing, and eagerly awaiting the next book.
I really enjoyed this book, it was different in a good way the story was not too heavy and difficult it had a very light feel. The characters are likeable and well developed. Actually the characters are so much more than simply likeable, I loved them this is definably a character driven story. It's told from the first person point of view of Charlie Wright, a 17 year old girl that can see demons within people. She is approached by a mysterious man who offers her an opportunity with a company called The Forever Land Alliance. Charlie comes to find out that Forever Land aka Semper Terra exists in another dimension where the Academy that teaches teens how to battle evil demons is. Interesting right, it sure was. There is romance and a ton of action to keep you on the edge until the end where there is a pretty major cliff hanger. I am not a fan of YA but I am a fan of Sawyer Bennett and her writing so overall I enjoyed this read and if you like YA and mild fantasy then this book is for you. Natasha
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review
I must say I was a little skeptical starting this book since it is not my usual type of read. Sawyer Bennett quickly changed my mind! This book is truly captivating from the very first page straight through to the last page and left me wanting more (which I am sure was the authors diabolical plan). Charlie is a rough and tough young woman scarred by life with an undying need to help and protect others. She is recruited to attend a school located in a parallel universe that will teach her the skills needed to fight the evil in the world.
I highly recommend you join Charlie in this exciting adventure. You won't regret it because it is in-freakin-credible..
So, i need to start off by saying I received this book from the author for an honest review. I have read all the books in her "Off" series and fell in love with them. They were incredible to say the least. I was really hoping to love this book just as much. Unfortunately, I didn't fall in love with it like the others. Don't get me wrong...It was a great story, but wasn't what I usually read.
The story was well written and had great characters, but for me it just wasn't my thing. It was a little too young for me. Regardless, I am all about Sawyer Bennett books and look forward to reading more from her. I will always pick up one of her books and give it a go.
In under one year I had read all of Sawyer Bennett's books except this one. Her other books are X-rated whereas this is for a younger audience.
Even so it was still Sawyer Bennett's writing. Her style; including her ability to draw the reader in to the story, to get to know the characters and become invested in the outcome.
I enjoyed the story thoroughly. It is fresh and exciting and has the trademark SB twists and turns. Although this is meant to be the first in a series there is no horrible cliffhanger...but I would like to read what happens next.
Sawyer Bennett has quickly become my go to author for a guaranteed good story. Forever Young has a very likable main character in Charlotte Wright, "Charlie" to her friends. I was impressed with Charlie's drive and determination. I really liked her and really liked the relationships she developed. Especially with one certain mentor. Can not wait for more from Sawyer Bennett and I am anxiously awaiting more in the Forever Land Chronicles.
Sawyer Bennett is Freaking Amazing!!! You can never go wrong with her books..She has brought us yet another book that will blow you out of the water :) I LOVE Forever Young and would really like the next book in the series.. Like right NOW!! :) I have a full review coming on Nov 15th on my book blog... I hope you can stop by!
This novel has such a unique story line! It held my attention and I just couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book! It's one that I can't stop thinking about even after I finished! Charlie is such an awesome character! I can't wait to read more about her!!
Wow is all I can see this book was unbelievable. Definitely a page turner and it had such a unique story line nothing I've ever really read before and it had everything I enjoy in a book. I will definitely be reading other books by this author.
I loved the unique setting, and there were signs of amazing writing. The heroine was too immature, and so the romance felt very "lusty" instead of loving. Otherwise, I really liked it, and would read a sequel to watch the heroine's growth over time.
