This omnibus edition includes four complete stories: Here Comes Thursday; Thursday Rides Again; Thursday Ahoy!; Thursday in Paris. Thursday is the name of a mouse who literally descends on a large family of mice, the Cupboardosities, who live in an organ loft cupboard. His arrival is highly unusual -- he floats in by balloon -- but this is not the only unusual thing about him: he has escaped from a home for Waifs and Strays (mice, of course). The family decides to adopt Thursday and this leads to a series of thrilling adventures. This charming collection of stories about Thursday mouse is published here for the first time in one volume.
Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
An underrated classic, the Thursday Omnibus contains all 4 Thursday novels, illustrated in a style reminiscent of Maus, though being children's books, the grim life of a mouse is only hinted at. All are good, clean adventure stories with a very traditional 1930s-50s English flavour to them. If you enjoy Wind in the Willows, Just William, Beatrix Potter, Watership Down, Paddington Bear or Winnie the Pooh, you'll love Thursday!
Synopses: A Mouse Called Thursday - Thursday floats in on a balloon and his adoptive family are introduced, and have multiple mouselike adventures.
Thursday Rides Again - Thursday and Co. build a miniature bus, drive to the seaside, and end up in France, busting a gang of cheese smugglers.
Thursday Ahoy - Thursday and Co. build a boat from the remains of their bus, and accidentally sail downriver to Mauschwitz.
Thursday in Paris - The mice go to France (properly, this time) and foil a plot to blow up Paris by Chinese-Irish terrorist mice at a cheese festival. This one was definitely written during the IRA years.
