For those of you who want to read more about Irene Kelly, "The Anchorwoman," a new short story about her, is out today in Convicted. It's one of four stories in the ebook collection, which costs $1.99.

In "The Anchorwoman," Irene is a journalism student who hears a comically strange story from someone she knew in high school — a story that Irene comes to believe is no laughing matter.

The collection also includes "Revised Endings," "The Muse," and "Devotion." "Devotion" features Frank Harriman, Ben Sheridan, and Bingle.

The fourth book in the short story series. Again, two Irene Kelly & Frank Harriman tales. Irene's was rather whimsical, but clever using a Sherlock Holmes story as a catalyst to solving a clownish puzzle. Frank's was more emotional as he investigates the murder of a cruel widower & the disappearance of his young son. Making an appearance are favorite characters forensic anthropologist & volunteer cadaver dog trainer, Ben, & his two dogs, Bingle & Bool. The other two tales deal with a mystery writer contemplating a way to murder her new & demanding editor & another writer with a fondness for Alfred Hitchcock movies becoming involved in his own murderous mystery. Very enjoyable stories.

Convicted by Jan Burke is a collection of four short stories. The four stories included are The Anchorwoman, Revised Endings, Devotion and The Muse. I thought all of the stories are good, but my favorite is Devotion. I love reading any Search and Rescue fiction that I can find, and reading Devotion gave me an enjoyable dose of this.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. Some of the stories are humorous, some are suspenseful, and all of them are well written. I think each story is clever and held my attention from beginning to end. I had figured the way of a couple of them were going to end but it was still enjoyable reading the stories to see how the author was going to get to the endings.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys well written short stories that are suspenseful and entertaining. i have not read any other books by this author put I plan on checking out some of them to read.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange of a honest review. I would like to thank Netgalley and Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)

Jan Burke's crime writing has always been a favourite of mine so imagine my excitement to find a book of four short stories by her - one completely new title, "The Anchorwoman", and three previously released stories from the "Eighteen" magazine.

"The Anchorwoman" was clever and humorous but the others were nowhere near as exciting or interesting. However, she still incorporates her gift for story-telling (even though I didn't like the stories themselves) and sense of fun into every page that makes each of these tales worth reading nonetheless.

I would recommend this book for people who enjoy well written short stories and for those who like to just enjoy reading for the pleasure of it.

I love anthologies and this one, all based on crimes. There are four great reads in this book and I loved them all. Jan Burke is a good writer and she has several anthologies available. If you like a good mystery and a fast read, pick this up.
