Wolf shifter Mackenzie Davis has no interest in mating with another wolf. Plenty of experiences in her past have hardened her to this resolve. She is loving life with the perfect job, the perfect friends, and the perfect boyfriend—a human one. Nevertheless, her mom implores her to attend this year’s Wolf Gathering. Reluctantly dragging her feet, she agrees to one day only.

Drake Spencer has come to the gathering from Texas with his family. He’s twenty-eight and believes his chances of finding a mate are slim to none, especially since he saw the woman he felt connected to leave with another man at the last gathering. But what if the woman who has consumed his dreams for the last few years is not actually mated?

When Mackenzie and Drake meet, sparks fly. Kenzie still hopes to deny the claim on her. But can she? The call of mates is stronger than she expected. What will happen to her sense of self if she follows this man to Texas? Not to mention Drake. Can he live with the mental scars of her past?

2 'Just Meh' Stars
Audiobook Edition

Too short and too shoulder-shruggingly meh to leave much impact or further interest in reading the rest of the series. It was missing something: passion or chemistry, or both. Either, or both, could have drawn me in, perhaps with more clan backstory and character study.

That said, it was a quick, fun audiobook.

Note: Meghan Kelly, the narrator, did a great job. She has a low, gravelly, Chicago/Minnesota twang which I really liked and found kinda sexy and her voice slips easily into a male character. I'd definitely look for other audiobooks she's done.

I really debate between 2 or 3 stars for this book. It's a sweet story, but I couldn't really connect with any of the characters. It's a really fast read but I think the author could have done soooo much more with this story line. What really killed it for me was the girl's backstory. All along, she's this angry she-wolf dead set against any male wolf, but she has her reason. It takes until the last chapter of the book to find out the reason. I would get the angry, men hating she-wolf thing if something bad had happened to her, but that isn't even the case. She saw something bad happen to a perfect stranger and now thinks all men are evil. And further proof is that a male wolf kisses her two years later!! (the horror....note sarcasm) Really??? That's it!! The big bad scary past is seeing something bad happen....don't get me wrong, it can be traumatizing, but not enough for the type of character she was.

Tarnished
By Becca Jameson

It's time for the semi-annual festival for wolves to hopefully find their mates. Mackenzie has no interest in going again after being pawed at at the last gathering and witnessing an attack at the one before that.

Drake is dreading going too, but for a different reason. The only she-wolf he was ever interested in left with another he-wolf at the last festival.

When Drake finds her at the festival again this year and still smelling unmated he's determined not to let the opportunity pass him by.

Drake is sweet, funny and persistent. Kenzie is a bit of a whiney hag and I didn't care for her personality much. Though I admit I liked her a lot better towards the end.

The book is in both of their POV.

A bit much

A bit much

The story was ok. Leslie's bitchiness was a bit much. I get she was traumatized but she took things a bit to far. Then she just wanted to be his mate. Bam! Drake was fantastic & you felt sorry for him that he had to be stuck with her as his mate. It's hard to get into this book when the main female character is so unlikable.

What to say...
I wanted to bitch-slap that woman for not stepping up for another woman in pain.
That's pretty much it. 🙄

It was awesome. It was perfect in everyway that I love about shifter stories. I loved the authors style of writing and storyline. Drake is a alpha male but a real sweetheart, patient and loving. Kenzie, was strong but vulnerable and really unsure of things. But together they were the sweetest couple. There were a few grammartical errors but it didn't take anything away from the story. I definately recommend this book!

Kinda basic wolf boy meets wolf girl with lots of mating

Its sorta a bit teenaged... There is an element that's missing I think. I guess the male part is too sweet not quite alpha... I don't know it makes me feel like its a teenager writing it without any experience of the topic. The other thing is its mostly masterbating, kissing, and petting.... And on what planet does anyone who is afraid that the males of the wolf shifter world are all Dominant pigs then decide to go live with a guy and his family made up of five men and a woman, and not tell anyone essentially seek off? I am sorry but it just isn't believable. Then to have sex of some type be the main subject of the story its not much beyond a titillating story of porn... That's not very good.... Here it is... The girl has had 2 bad experiences at the gathering with dominating men, she doesn't want another. The guy saw her at the last gathering and thought she mated someone else... But they bump into each other... Still mates... Then the guy starts trying to get her to be his mate... Apparently he's hard all the time... She is horny all the time too they are thinking of mating each other, but she insists she isn't interested... Suddenly she decides to go to his home several hundred miles away for a week to prove she's not his mate... Even though she knows she is... They tour the ranch have masturbate sessions, kissing, petting, and finally sex... She freaks because he holds her down one morning and then tells him about her witnessing a rape... They work it out and everything is perfect in a year... Oh no bondage sex it triggers her. Sorry its ok if your a teen looking for some smut otherwise its a pretty basic unbelievable story. Obviously set in a fantasy world where things just happen without any thought.

I enjoyed this book. I didn't really have any problems with it. It was cute and easy to get into. It was really small though. So small, I finished it in one sitting. I wish it would have longer. I didn't really have time to form any emotional investment in the story and I think that if it had been longer, it definitely would have gotten a higher rating from me. The story definitely has potential but there was nothing in it that stood out to me. I won't be continuing the series. I have read her Wolf Masters and her Fight Club series and after those, this one just doesn't do it for me.

This is a review of the whole series. I'm going to go ahead up front and say it's not for the faint of heart. Despite the lack of portrayal of much actual abuse, the whole series is permeated by dealing with surviving horrific abuse. It does not shy away from portraying the full depth of that.

I couldn't enjoy the series at all because of that, but I have to acknowledge it succeeds in what it sets out to do and is well written.

Despite everything still a rather depressing read, where you want to punch a wall at all the injustice in the world, even this fictional one.

Becca Jamison writes amazing sexy novels, but she especially writes great shifter sexy novels! Mackenzie and Drake are awesome together, but Drake definitely has his work cut out for him with Mackenzies phobia of mating. Great quick read. Can’t wait to read the next in the series!

My one regret about this book is that they didn't find out the people from the first incident that traumatized Kenzie. All is know is Drake deserves a medal for patience and is the best mate a girl or wolf could have.

Good

I was disappointed she never told her mother so they could find the horrible man. Also shouldn't you want to protect your own sisters. Drake is amazing. Patient.

You know who says "You can trust me, I'm a nice guy"? Guys who aren't nice. Turns out he mostly is, but a LOT of what he says is very douchebaggy. And that's what I can't get over.
