J.A. DENNAM, an award winning author and RWA member, resides in a small Kansas town with her husband and children. Creativity is her strong suit having nurtured a career as a western artist and graphic artist.

Storytelling, however, has been a part of her life since childhood. At six years of age, insomnia forced her to endure many long, sleepless nights staring at the ceiling. After confessing her problem to her older sister, the two of them decided to tell each other stories to entice sleep; however, the inevitable snore always tore through her sister’s nose before she could utter the words Once Upon a Time. So the stories began to flow in silence, her imagination taking her to quiet, private places so enthralling, the sudden trick was to stay awake.

Those habits carried on to adulthood until the need to purge her stories demanded she put them in print. Her fascination with romance, fast cars and adventure films is what structures her novels today.

BEWARE if you’ve read the 1st bk in this series, bk 2 here has a TOTALLY different theme. So I’m thinking WTH is this?!? Yes, some of the main characters from bk 1 return but the shocker is there’s a SURPRISE character return from bk 1 that’s totally unsuspected and that character is NOTHING like you came to know and care about in bk 1. This whole bk was just strange, I skimmed most of the whole “there’s this spook agency, covert drugs, ghost operatives”, blah, blah, blah. See what I’m talking about? NOTHING like bk 1. The first bk in this series was about a small town feud with a romance and a bit of suspense. Not sure what to call this one…Paranormal? Special Ops? Romantic suspense? Not much romance to it if you ask me. More slam, bam thank you ma’am. None of this story makes sense or is believable. A small town crew is suddenly immersed in undercover dealings with drugs that have physically enhancing affects along with a looney ex-fiancé at the heart of all this mess. Can’t imagine what bk 3 could possibly be about…aliens maybe?!? LOL! Doubt I’ll be finding out.

My boyfriend is Jack Reacher. We have a very serious, one-sided relationship in which I lick the pages of Lee Child's books and Jack continues to be both fictional and fully clothed. But lately, I've been unfaithful to dear old Jack. I've met a new man and he's given me what I've never been able to find with Jack. A good, old fashioned, belly laugh. The hero in Between Faith and Fear is tall, dark, handsome, and positively lick-worthy. JA Dennam's quick wit and snarky commentary kept me turning page after page of this hot little love story.

I'd categorize this book as a romantic comedy-mystery-suspense-fueled-thriller. Lots of twists and turns, fantastically crafted characters, and some really hot loves scenes kept me interested, entertained, and coming back for more. Maybe you've read Dennam's first in the series, Truth and Humility, maybe not - it won't matter. The author's done a wonderful job weaving in backstory from book 1 so this can be read as a stand alone. But why not make a weekend out of it an enjoy the Bennetts and the Cahills in one gloriously sexy sitting? Now that's a neighborhood I'd like to move into...

J.A. Dennam totally surprised me when I heard there was another book after Truth and Humility, I have to say for me it could have been a standalone I felt she had wrapped it up pretty well. If you haven’t read it, then do so!! Ms. Dennam really shows you that things are not as they appear to be in her 2nd book BETWEEN FAITH AND FEAR. I left Truth and Humility gutted at one point, I now understand that as a writer what she had done was a necessary evil.

I really didn’t understand the concept of using Melanie in this book, one she was Danny’s best friend in the first book her character really didn’t have a major roll, to me anyway. I just had a hard time seeing where she could go with her, I don’t know why I even do that, question an author? I mean really it isn’t my place, just read the book. After reading the first book I knew that Ms. Dennam had a knack for the unexpected. Does she ever, I have to say you can never count on something being what you think it is because eventually she will turn it around, twist it and turn it until you have it as something you can’t believe and stunned again.

As an avid reader I love being able to be held captive by the words that have been written and you especially look for that in a romantic suspense. Not only do you want to be drawn to the Hero and heroine their chemistry for one another but also their level of protectiveness, the dominance in the male, how alpha is he. I especially don’t want a female that will cowered in a corner she needs to be an equal at his side not behind his back. J.A. Dennam was able to capture such in this book and so much more because in this one we see Melanie as a mother so with that an even more protectiveness kicks in. Oh how I want to tell you so much more about the Hero but it was something that I never saw coming especially after the last book and it literally stole my breath and I just don’t want to spoil it for you! I will say this though, he is a badass, freaking smoking HOT and J.A. Dennam can writing some awesome descriptive panty dropping scenes!!

In typical J.A. fashion you are kept at the edge of your seat from one page to the next, you have no idea who is friend or foe? Who you think may have your back may be the next one to put the knife in it? You don’t stop to catch your breath and you don’t want it to end either. As with every well written suspense there are still questions left unanswered but I have to say that Ms. Dennam tied it up nicely that I’m okay to wait for the next book and look forward to what’s to come.

I liked Between Faith and Fear, but compared to the first book in this series, it's missing something. I think for me, the first book was more of an angsty-contemporary romance with a plot twist at the ending. This book was more of a suspense, sci-fi and really wasn't believable. Though, there were some super hot smexy scenes that I quite enjoyed! Don't get me wrong, it was exciting to read, it was a one sitting read for me! I really love the Hero/love interest a lot! Dennam is a talented writer, the flow of the story and the POV's were great! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I gotta know what happens to this cast of characters and who's book it'll be! Thus far, the series is great!

***WARNING*** While this book can be read as a standalone, there are major spoilers from Truth and Humility at the beginning of this book and in this review.

If you are still reading this remember, I warned you. In Truth and Humility we met Austin and Danny in Between Faith and Fear, the story revolves around Melanie and Derek. Two years ago, Mel and Derek shared a moment on the hood of his car, that was days before he was shot and killed by Rena. Left with his family to grieve their lost, little does she know that their romp on the hood of the car resulted in a child.

DJ (Derek Junior) has become her entire world. After losing the only man she’s ever loved, the only memories she has of him are his photos and his son. She keeps his memory alive everyday by showing her son the picture of his dad and telling him how much he would have loved him. Little does she know her entire world is about to be rocked to it’s core.

Lurking in the shadows is someone from her past, someone that is going to take her away. When she leaves Mac behind for the day to go home and pack, she stops in the middle of the road when she sees a black dog emerge from the shadows holding the pink blanket of one of the children from the daycare they run. Distracted by the dog, she doesn’t see the person that opens the passenger door and enters her car drugging her and preparing to take her away. This person doesn’t notice until the dog is in the car and distracted that there is a blue eyed identical version of Melanie strapped into the back seat.

Melanie awakens later in a moldy damp room that was a former classroom face to face with the one woman she never wanted to see again. None other than Rena who escaped from prison. There is a man with her, but the man stays in the shadows of the dark room wearing a hood and disguising his voice. The man finally decides it’s time to tell her who he is. The man is none other than Derek who has returned from the dead. Turns out he wasn’t dead at all. But there are others among them that want to take not only Derek and Rena back with them, but Melanie and DJ as well. Someone that will do anything to get to them and harm them.

Derek is not the same man he was when he left. He appears larger, more on edge, and stay mostly in the shadows wearing a dark hoodie. He has obtained a series of skills, things he doesn’t want to have and a dependency on a drug that his captors addicted him to. One he cannot live without.

Their reunion is short lived and more lives put in danger when Ty, Danny, and Austin enter the picture. Those around him are in danger, and there’s little he can do to stop the ghosts that are coming for them. Friends are reunited, enemies are discovered, demons are dealt with. But in the end who will be friend and who will turn out to be foe? Can Melanie help to save Rena and Derek before it’s too late?

This series is like watching a movie. I seriously could see the film playing out in my mind, this series would make a wonderful film. It’s heartfelt and action packed. It has all the makings of some day becoming a great film. Just like J.A. Dennam says, this book has it all. Sex, action, love, pain, hurt, oh and did I mention sex with a hot alpha male??? I cannot wait for the next book in this series, this book didn’t leave you with a heavy withdrawal waiting for the next book like some cliffhangers do, it does however leave you dying to read the next book. This series is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites and does not disappoint. I highly recommend reading this book as well as Truth and Humility. Like I said, while it can be read alone, it does help to read book one or you will be lost at the beginning. I give this book an easy 5 stars because it really was one of the best action packed romance novels I have read so far this year.

Since reading the first book in this series, Truth and Humility, I was anxiously waiting for the next book in the Captive series.

When I finally got hold of it, I began reading it a little apprehensively. Main reason: I hate to be disappointed and normally it is very rare for me to like sequels as much as the first book. Second reason: This book is Melanie’s (Mel) story, who I had a very hard time liking in the previous book much less be paired with one of the most dynamic character I have read, and some unknown hero.

Boy, when I began reading did I get the shock of my life. Telling would be a spoiler but let me tell you this, the hero is a sexy, ruthless bad-ass and I love him even more now.

The pace and storyline of Between Faith and Fear itself is a surprise, very different from the first book but just as captivating. I did have trouble in the beginning because I was expecting something similar to book 1, Truth and Humility, but this grew on me. It has darker and has more paranormal elements. Not a light-hearted read for people who feel queasy about killings. For me, this is along the lines of the suspense style I prefer where no punches are pulled. The emotion is telling, the angst is on the edge and the action is fast and furious.

The best part? Author, J.A Dennam stayed absolutely true to the characters from the first book and made them grow from there. By the end, I even began to like Mel when she finally grew up and showed her strength of character. Rena, the absolute nutcase who tried to kill everyone in the first book, surprisingly won my heart. She is sneaky, sassy, a total badass with a dark secret. New character is introduced in here, Crystal who will star in the novella prequel to Hell’s Hilltop, Rena’s story. I cannot wait to start reading their stories.

Between Faith and Fear is one of those books that I could not get enough of. I mean I was so hooked that I stayed up late into the night to finish reading this book because I just had to find out what happened. Lord have mercy I was not disappointed either.

We get to see Melanie Parker two years after she lost the love of her life. She wakes up and she is in a place the is unfamiliar to her and she also realizes that Rena Hellberg has her child. Melanie is pissed because no one messes with her child so she does not bow down quietly to her captor. When her captor sees she will not go down quietly he is intrigued and also determined to make her see she better do as she is told.

Okay so I am not going to go into it much more because HOLY SHIZZ this book took me on such a roller coaster of a ride and then a reemergence of a character really had me like oh no what the hell is that so. I mean I was sitting at the edge of the chair wondering what was going to happen next and as I was reading I was not disappointed.

This series has mystery, intrigue, sex, and so much more. To me this is such a mind F&^% that I enjoyed it. I mean I just could not get enough and I look forward to reading more and finding out what happens next!

I had the privilege of reading BFF as JA was writing it, and let me tell you it KILLED me to have to wait for chapters. This story is so exhilarating I told her she had to send me bigger sections at a time. I literally couldn't stand the suspense of waiting to see what was going to happen next. She hooked me on page one and it never let up. If you want a fast paced, hot romance, with tons of action, and exciting twists, read Between Faith and Fear. Oh and did I mention HOT. I can’t wait for the next book in the Captive series to come out. GREAT job JA!

I totally loved the first book. The second installment left a bit to be desired. It totally jumped the grid from the theme of the first book. Not that you want them both to be the sane but this one just seemed to be lacking something. I will read the next one hoping to see an improvement

When Melanie Parker wakes up in an unfamiliar room with a killer holding her little boy she knows something is wrong, very wrong. A hooded stranger is standing in the shadows calling the shots. When she refuses to just give up, she learns more than she ever dreamed. That hooded stranger cannot hide his feelings for Melanie. He brings her into a scary and dangerous world that could end up killing them all.
Between Faith and Fear is a fast paced, page turner that I could not put down. I loved that the characters from Truth and Humility were also in this novel, but the story was new, not a carryover of book #1. I feel that this could be a standalone story, but it is also part of a series. The action and the romance kept me up late reading and then getting up early to be able to finish it. J.A. Dennam wrote another amazing book.

This is a hard review for me to write, as I do not want to give away the surprise that happens in this story. Yet the surprise is the main part of this book. I can tell you that you have to read this book. Whether you read the first on, Truth and Humility, or not. You will miss out on an amazing story if you pass by this one.

Danny was still my favorite character. She stood besides Melanie through thick and thin. D.J., Melanie’s son, was taught through Danny’s family who his dada was, even when he wasn’t around. When Melanie was dealing with her kidnapping and who the kidnappers were Danny managed to help her keep her cool and also save the ones that mean the most to her. When the surprise was revealed she fainted, but then jumped right back into it and moved to action. I felt that Danny was true. True to her friends, family, and the mission that was at hand for all those involved in keeping Melanie, D.J. and their family safe.

As you can tell I LOVE novel and the author. I am anxiously awaiting more about the Cahill’s and Bennett Families. I definitely recommend Between Faith and Fear by J.A. Dennam

Review:

"Between Faith and Fear" by J.A. Dennam was some good read. I would suggest you read this authors' first novel 'Truth and Humility' first before reading this one...it will make it somewhat clearer for you to understand just what has gone on earlier in the series leading into this one: "Between Faith and Fear." All I can say is what a thrill of a ride this novel lead me on. I thought it was a awesome read. This author really knows how to connect all of the dots so you will just have to read it finding it such a smooth ride. There was so much going on in this read...be ready for so many twist and turns that will have you saying I didn't see that coming! The first series was of Austin and Danny and for this series was of Mel and Derek. Yes, Derek! Be ready for 'secrets, plots and a lots of danger in every turn up to very end. As the secrets are revealed there will be even more danger added to the characters. Will they be able to live or will their be lives loss? One great thing I did like was the way the families came together 'working side by side to save the lives of those they loved.' "Between Faith and Fear" their will be parts of the novel will jump back and forth but it will be easy to keep up with. At times you will not know who the enemy is but by continuing your read you will find out in the end and oh what a ending! Be prepared for a long read but it will be worth it in the end because this author really give its to her readers a awesome read that will only have you looking for this author's the next series.

¿Qué es ésto que acabo de leer?
Me siento completamente perdida. Me siento estafada.

Well… where to start. First off, this book is nothing like the first book. This one is teetering on the edge of sci-fi. And that isn’t a bad thing. This isn’t a mushy, happy ending type of book. It is raw and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
So, I am struggling to give you what I want to give you without being a spoiler. Secrets are reveals. Plot twists ensue around every corner. Like in the first book, no one knows who to trust… Only things are much more serious this time around. There is more danger than ever before. The ones you didn’t like in the first book may just become your wanna be ally.
Everyone has played a part in hiding things from those close to them. Now everything is coming out, one secret at a time. The more secrets that are revealed, the more danger all of the characters are in. This book is a race against time. If things aren’t handled right, many people will lose their lives. Again, both families must continue to work side-by-side to save the lives of those they love.
This story with have you back and forth all of the way through. On the edge of your seat, you won’t know truth from lies. You will question who is the enemy and who is not. I couldn’t put this book down. I wanted the happy ending that I thought would happen. I was left satiated but ready for the next book! Hold on tight with this book! It is one big bumpy ride!!

Melanie lost the man she loved two years ago in a terrible tragedy, now she is haunted by his memory. Or is it more than his memory? She is abducted, but why? Is her captor holding her for harm or to protect her? If so from who and what? Could the man she loved ever hurt her even if he is a ghost? This one you must read.

This is the second book in the Captives series by J.A.Dennam and man oh man is it good. I loved the first one Truth and Humility where we meet all the characters in this one, but this one stands alone perfectly but you will want to read the first. The story has so many twists and turns, the mystery and suspense will have you on the edge of your seat, the romance is beautiful and hot. What more could you want.

I will say this in closing J.A should have written the scenes for the infamous Dallas show…this is definitely no dream… Awesome!

I recommend this to anyone that likes secret organizations, hot sexy men (it’s full of them) strong sexy women (full of them.. no shrinking violets here)mystery and intrigue, hot sex and babies and dogs. I told you this one has it all!!

I loved this book!!! It was amazing!!! There was romance, suspense, mystery, and HOT MEN!!! Once the book starts it doesn't stop. Melanie is one tough chick in this book. The way she deals with Rena and all the other obstacles that come against her. I mean the story literally takes place in a time span of about 3 days. The storyline is very different but I could not get enough of it. There are some revelations that happen at the very beginning of the book that will shock the HELL out of you!! I was happy with the way the book went because it couldn't have been done any other way. When I finished the book I was one big stress ball. The book was so intense but worth every minute. This is another one that kept me reading until the middle of the morning which caused me to lose sleep. I felt like crap when I went to work but then I remembered why I lost sleep and told myself to suck it up and move your ass. Melanie could do it then so could I...right??? lol.....I enjoyed my popcorn and chocolate while reading this book. Enjoy!!!

Oh my God! Seriously?! I'm speechless, literally!! I read Truth and Humility a couple years ago now, and reread it yesterday after I saw J A Dennam had added to the series, but never did I think that the story would lead us here!!!

It's almost like the first book started out in one very specific genre and this one rockets off somewhere completely different?! However having said that, jeez did this author pull it off! She's rocked this story and I'm burning to find out what happens next! And I can't believe I cried buckets (which I totally did) about Derek, never saw this coming that's for sure!

Needless to say this book comes highly recommended, I'm so surprised by the negative review for this book, I'm honestly blown away by this story. But maybe the sudden change in genre is too much for some? I know it definitely wasn't for me. This is one of the best books I've read this year and a high contender for last year too. Please hurry with the next one Ms Dennam!!

I enjoyed this book, it was just a completely different theme from the first book. It was almost like reading a completely different series. If you were looking for something along the same lines as the first book you read, this is not it. As another reviewer noted, this book is more action/sci-fi/suspense with some romance and steamy scenes thrown in. It's good to catch up with characters from the first book, but be warned that this is not quite the contemporary love story with funny banter that you read in book one. This book is a bit darker and has themes that could be triggers for some readers. It is entertaining and fast paced. It will introduce you to a whole new world of mystery drugs and covert science lab killers trained to carry out dubious orders from a mad scientist with a penchant for playing with her science projects and her evil, sadistic henchman. Very different vibe, but still enjoyable as long as you aren't expecting more of the same.

JA Dennam brings us the second book in the Captive Series. The Bennett and Cahill families, and their feuding. Truth and Humility was the back story about these families. It was Danny and Austin's story. Between Faith and Fear is the story about Melanie and Derek.
These suspenseful romantic stories are well written. The author has a knack for setting the scene so that the reader feels all the emotions the characters are experiencing. I enjoy how her words describe a scene or situation in such a realistic and believable way.
This series is suspenseful, thrilling, romantic and has many twists and turns along the way.
I don't typically read suspense, but I knew the hotness factor would win me over. And oh boy did it. Ms. Dennam delivers these hot alpha men and strong women in style.
Looking forward to more in the series.
(I actually read this book back in August.)

I truly enjoyed this follow up to Truth and Humility. The author has a gift for taking the reader along on a thrill ride from start to finish. Well-drawn characters that I was happy to reunite with took me right back into their "reality". If I could change one thing, it would be that I wasn't ready for the story to end when it did and I sincerely hope that there's a third book planned in this series.

I read this in e-pub format on my Nook. Loved this second book, especially since I didn't think there would be another after reading the first one. Loved how Melanie's strength and courage came through when the ones she loved are threatened and hurt. Happy about the surprise hero, and it was heart breaking all that he has gone through. Glad that Danny & Austin are included in this story as well. So glad this series is continuing and can't wait for the next one.

SMOKING HOT HOT HOT!!! I got to beta read a copy and can I just say WOW! Loved it, fast paced, couldn't put it down, a true page turner. Loved the character development, especially Melanie. I can't say to much more or else I will spoil it for others. If you liked the first book, Truth and Humility, then I think you will love this second book.
