The Ex Factor

Rate this book
Oindrilla Roy, also known by her friends as Oinks among several other nicknames, is having a lousy week. Cook, maid, driver, all (help) have deserted her. At work, her boss, Hawkeye, is making her life miserable. Her cousin Ankita seems to have got involved in some mess at college and needs her intervention. Her best friend Sweety Chopra is running amok with her own set of shenanigans inadvertently involving Oinks.

It is then that Vivek Rao makes an unexpected entry back into her life. After years. Even before she has had time to get over the previous heartbreak. But somehow, right now, his presence does not seem to be a bad thing. Vivek is still annoying but how did that scrawny-looking thing become this hunk? One to lust for? He also seems to like her even now (maybe). Or maybe not. Nevertheless, Vivek seems to be helping her by being there. With the many issues that haunt Oinks and demand her attention, and given her penchant for saying and doing just the wrong thing at the most inappropriate time, will this renewed contact blossom into something more? Or will it simply fizzle out?

Oindrilla also known as Oinks by her friends and Tinku as her nickname was having a lousy, dreadful day but she didn't know that would stretch into a week full of fiasco. From her parents to pets everyone seems to seek her time and attention at the same time. Her cousin and her best friend are not far behind. To top it all Vivek, her ex makes an unexpected entry into her life probably into her heart too. How Oinks' gonna manage her crazy family and detangle this hot mess of emotions. But most important why Vivek is suddenly giving her flutters in the stomach whom she has dumped years ago? "The Ex Factor" is going to be a racey, comical, rom-com you want to reach for again and again.

"The Ex Factor" is a rom-com, YA fiction that makes a little room for some light-hearted romance peppered with comedy and humour on equal doses. From the very beginning the clumsy, bong portrayal of the main character was giving me bouts of laughter. Me being a bong very much liked the little sprinkle of bong words here and there, it made the particular plot more amusing. Although laced with crazy antics of the characters and a good plotline the story is pretty predictable. Another thing that never works for me is too much workplace or other details, this book has plenty of it. But I enjoyed the change in perspective of the main character. In general I feel her, grumpy, rude, impulsive, who doesn't like people but how slowly she let people enter her life albeit with much resistance and gave her all presumed thoughts a second chance really made me reflect on myself. Character sketches were on point.

Coming to the writing, the story is quite fast paced and the narration is also good, quality of the writing is amazing, simple but engaging. What started as a bad day really turns into a dramatic sequence of incidents and the quirky characters made it all too funny. The story though predictable I enjoy this type of rom-com books. Recommended to beginners due to its simple nature.

Twenty-six-year-old Oindrilla 'Oinks' Roy has never quite gotten over her high school crush, Vivek Rao, who ditched her back then for her best friend. Now, years later, Oinks finds herself meeting Vivek again, and working with him on a project in Shillong. Which might be all very well as a standard 'second chance' romance, except that motor mouth Oinks happens to be plagued with not just a whacky family, but also thoroughly whacky friends. Everything seems to go wrong at the same time, and Oinks finds herself cornered...

What I really liked in The Ex Factor were the supporting characters: Sweety, Divya, Ma, and Hawkeye especially were a bunch of memorably nutty people. Oinks herself is a nut job, and I couldn’t help but be amused by the way she stumbles through life.

Another thing that especially worked for me was the English-peppered with Hindi dialogues here and there: so urban Delhi-Gurgaon style, and Srinivasan does it really well.

I thought the romance angle wasn’t too strong – the chemistry didn’t really come through, and there were some questions left unanswered about these two and whatever misunderstanding had first set them apart. Other than that, the end was a little too rushed. And, this needed better proof-reading.

But: the action is fast, and the quirkiness around Oinks, her family and friends is amusing. A quick, enjoyable book for when you want a break from the heavier stuff.

Oindrilla Roy works at EOFA (Employment Opportunities for All) an NGO located at Gurgaon. She is flanked by two dogs and her family comprising of her mother & father who are reputed government officials holding important portfolios.

In a twist of fate, she gets posted at Shillong for crisis aversion by the 'recommendation' of her two snooty middle-aged colleagues - Aparna & Suchitra. When she was en route to Calcutta, all pumped up and excited to meet Ankita, Dida, and Mami, she bumps into her old high-school crush Vivek Rao. The wounds are fresh and Oindrilla is still nursing a broken heart but she's a hot mess and melts into a puddle in his presence.

The writing is a mix of colloquial Bengali and Hindi to give it the necessary Delhi, Calcutta touch. The cover is vibrant, and zesty encompassing all necessary elements of the plot. Oindrilla's family dynamics and their shenanigans add a layer of complexity to the story. The plotline though conventional didn't feel stagnant because of the multitude of characters and their quirks. I could relate to Oindrilla's characteristic trait of doing things without thinking twice. Harini Srinivasan weaves multiple sub-plots to create a compelling narrative.

The Ex Factor is a romantic comedy of errors that takes you on a frolicking ride. A perfect beach read that will zap you out of your mundanity.

The witty banter between Vivek and Oindrilla and the former's drool worthy looks is what yearned me for more. The language could have been attenuated to omit certain excessive use of words which made Oindrilla's monologue, an irritating tirade.

Harini Srinivasan’s The Ex Factor is a roller coaster journey of Oindrilla Roy that spans for a couple of days through a chaotic web of complicated relationships, heartbreak, and modern-age love. With its witty narrative, and relatable scenarios, and a generous dose of humor, this romantic comedy is a delightful read that offers a dive into the Bengali family of Oindrilla Roy and her complexity in forming human connections.

The story follows the life of Oindrilla Roy, a girl surrounded by tons of mis-happenings and drama in her life caused by her family, friends, and ex-boyfriend. She finds herself in the middle of a multitude of emotions once she unintentionally bumps into her ex-boyfriend. With her best friend, Sweety, coming out and the cloud of trouble over her cousin sister, Ankita, Oindrilla enters Shillong for her three-month on-site work, only to be met with more surprises to add to her turmoil basket.

The Ex Factor by Harini Srinivasan
Rating – 3.5/5

“Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. Every single thing.”

In this riot of epic proportions, Oindrilla Roy, our resident “I am very professional at work because that is the only way I can mask myself” is faced with a long-time problem of hers. A hunk who goes by the name Vivek. One she had crushed for so long that she had to run away from the place so that she could move on. What happens now? Well, no spoilers, but a lot of things happen.

Straight up, the book goes at breakneck speed. And by breakneck, I mean faster than light. You’ll never know when you’ve gone halfway through. In between going through her usual routine of throwing the f-word one after the other, our lovely Oinks tackles her larger-than-life mother, her just-came-out-of-closet-and-now-dating-her-mortal-enemy best friend, and her cousin. Too much on the plate? Well, throw a long-forgotten yet butterflies crush and you’ve got a flustered Oinks who melts into a puddle but can’t show it. Typical tsundere.

The story is nice, but there are a few holes in the plot. And while it is alright for a novella to have some plot holes, it could have been better with a little more exposition. Also the relationship building between various characters, some are predefined but the little emotions of being human, could have done so much more if those were explored in detail, even if just a little bit.

And the narration, yes. While everything goes fine and the first few f-bombs due hit the funny bone, the rest fall flat due to overuse of it. Oinks is frustrated and that’s something that shows throughout the novella and at one point you start wondering where is this coming from which thankfully she
answers herself. A fresh take on the “hinglish” style makes it a considerably easier read but again, suffers from the curse of overuse.

Lastly, the book is a funny one-time read. And that is its strong suit, it will make a perfect companion if you’re outside and are looking for something to read. If you’re in a coffee shop, take this book with you without even thinking twice, it will make the coffee worthwhile. Zeph out.

Meet Oindrilla Roy, fondly known as Oinks, who has finished studying Korean and pursued an MBA. She lands a job at an NGO, feeling her presence is essential, especially since her housemaid and cooking maid unexpectedly didn't return, leaving her with additional responsibilities like walking puppies. On top of that, she has to handle her cousin's troubles and her boss's urgent need for presentation documents.

In the midst of all this chaos, she gets posted to Shillong for three long months to resolve the ongoing issues. Meanwhile, her mother insists on a visit to her hometown. There, fate takes a sudden turn when she crosses paths with her crush, the charming Mr. Hunk, also known as Vivek.

Life takes a delightful twist with Vivek’s presence, turning her story into a fun and breezy rom-com. The book offers a delightful Kolkata vibe, even for those who haven’t visited the city yet. The LGBTQ representation in the story adds an extra layer of richness and inclusivity. If you’re looking for a simple yet enjoyable read to lift your spirits, this is the perfect choice.

The book was about the main character, Oindrilla Roy, whose high school love left her heart broken. At 26 years old, she thought that she was over it when she meets him again. Now, she has to work with him for a project, while hoping and praying that her old feelings will not come again.

The book was a refreshing read for me. It was a simple book with under two hundred pages and I liked reading it. It can be read very easily and fastly and no moment in the story bored me. The writing style too was simple that helped in the smooth flow of Oindrilla's story.

As for the story, I got the same experience as watching a Bollywood movie. I liked it too. Oindrilla's story is definitely something that I enjoyed reading. From the beginning to the end, there were humurous moments to keep me entertained and a wide variety of characters that made me interested in their banter.

Overall, this book was a good one!

Oindrella Roy aka oinks' life is as messy as it can get. She's trying to balance her professional (working at an NGO named EOFA—equal opportunity for all) and personal lives, but to no avail. Her parents, house help, two 𝘬𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘴, and Hawkeye (her boss) are seeking both her time and attention at the same time. Her bestie and her cousin have issues of their own, and Oinks gets caught up in their mess too. However, a field trip to Shillong comes up as an escape opportunity for her. But oinks and life twists go hand in hand. In an unforeseen turn, her once true love, Vivek Rao, reenters her life as a colleague. Now, in addition to her daily challenges, Oinks must navigate the enigma of her heart. With dilemmas, distractions, and inner dialogues as constant companions, she unexpectedly finds herself tumbling headlong into love with Vivek once again.⁣

There's a line in the blurb saying, 'Love in the time of chaos'. I say, sometimes love itself becomes the main factor in the chaos in life (let that sink in). Harini Srinivasan's The Ex Factor is all about 'Chaos' in Oindrella's life. The last novel I read left me on an extremely emotional note. So I wanted my next book to be a light and funny read. That's how this book entered the scenario. The charming cover and those funky goggles, along with Romcom mentioned on the back cover, made me pick it up. Here goes my reading experience.⁣

The book started on an interesting note. ' Everything that could go wrong went wrong today, every single thing. The use of Hindi words every now and then was providing a desi touch. I was enjoying (apologies) the chaos in Oindrella's life (will it be termed sadism?). The story was going well, but it went downhill after the Shillong trip began. It had to be a rom-rom, but neither rom nor com were there. The frequent use of F word was quite bothersome to me.⁣

It's a short book of only 194 pages. But it took me a lot of time to finish it. I didn't feel any urge to pick it up because of my curiosity to finish it in the first place. Character development was also not up to par. The exploration of Vivek and Oink's past was much needed to provide the much-needed depth to their characters, but it didn't happen. This is the first time that no image of a character developed in my mind while reading except Oinks, of course, thanks to the cover. Coming to the climax, the book ended suddenly. It just quickly happened in a couple of pages. I was like, 'I came this far to become a victim of this? Aarrrrgghhhh!!!’.⁣

Conclusively, there's not a single amusing factor I felt in The Ex Factor. So unfortunately, it'll not be able to win my RECOMMENDED medal.⁣

This contemporary romcom immerses readers into the life of Oindrilla Roy, affectionately known as Oinks among her friends. Oinks ori ginates from a vibrant Bengali household, where the antics never cease. Her parents' roles as civil servants do little to maintain order, as even the Bengali maid and cook find it challenging to endure the constant whirlwind of activity. Amid this tumultuous environment, the presence of their two pet dogs, adored and coddled like infants, contributes further to the delightful chaos of daily life.
Within the walls of her workplace, life continues its forward march. Oinks is supported by her closest friends, Sweety and Tejas, who provide a steady supply of gossip. Meanwhile, her boss Rahul ensures her attention is always directed toward impending deadlines.
However, a professional assignment sends Oinks to the serene locale of Shillong, offering her a respite from the cacophony of her home life. Yet, as fate would have it, her world takes an unexpected turn upon encountering her ex - Vivek Rao. The narrative delves into the intricacies of how Oinks navigates and orchestrates this unforeseen reunion, and it is this journey that propels the rest of the tale forward.
The author adeptly guides us through Oindrilla’s realm, where friendship, love, familial bonds and workplace dynamics intertwine seamlessly. The various cities she traverses come to life on the pages, woven into the narrative with a touch of humor that consistently elicits smiles.
Emotions run high, and the dialogues resonate in many places, allowing readers to connect with the characters and even find themselves chuckling or nodding in understanding. The story introduces a colorful cast, each grappling with their own experiences of joy, sorrow, and turmoil. Oindrilla's character is painted as the embodiment of an independent woman, adeptly handling any challenge, a portrayal that remains consistent throughout.
The infusion of Hindi words serves as a delightful enrichment to the narrative, although its impact might not be fully appreciated by non-Hindi speakers. However, the detailed descriptions in certain passages tend to slightly dilute the pacing, and an excess of explicit language and profanity disrupt the overall flow of the narrative.
To conclude, if you're looking for a light-hearted read and possess an affinity for a new-age romcom, this book is worth considering for your reading list.

I feel the story lacks developing other characters other than Oindrilla.
Oinks relationship with other characters should have developed a bit stronger.
The overuse of slang and cuss words could have avoided.

I would definietely recommend for one time read.

••REVIEW: The book is so funny, I have never laughed like that while reading the book. Sometimes, Hindi Language is used in the jokes and this gives a sense of realism and relatability. All the characters in the book were written very well, whether it’s Oindrilla Roy, the main character, or the supporting characters like her family members and friends. Their mannerisms and dialogues are bound to amuse you. The plot of the story isn’t new, it contains familiar tropes of a rom-com novel. 5. The book discusses relationships and homosexuality through the effective use of comedy.

The story focuses on the life of Oindrilla Roy (often called as Oinks and in a few other names) a 25 year old independent lady who is the only child of two bureaucrats. She is living a totally messed up life in a mad Bengali house were 'kuttas' are given more importance than her. Being an anti social she is not fond of too many people and have negative remarks about almost all people who came across in her life. Even in this chaotic life she finds comfort with her best (only) buddies Sweety and Tejas. Everything was going as messy as always when she bumps accidently into Vivek Rao, the man who dumped her during their school days. What will she do now? Will she break his head for the pain he caused her? Or will some new relation sprout between them?

🌹 The best romcom I read recently. I picked this book without much expectation but it surprised me by providing a great reading experience full of laughter.
🌹 The best part of this book is its narration. This one is surely a stress buster. I am not sure about how the author wrote those dialogues with so much ease.
🌹 The whole novel is narrated by Oindrilla herself which made it easier to relate and connect with the character.
🌹 Its more like a character centric one as full attention is always given to Oindrilla.
🌹 The humour part is wonderfully written. Most of the time I was either giggling or laughing while reading. Even in short dialogues there was something to laugh. Oindrilla's mind voice (half idiotic and half sensible) was just mind blowing.
🌹 The use of Hindi words and phrases were too good. It made the reading more interesting.
🥀 I think if a little more attention was given to the characterization then it would have been great.
🥀 In the beginning I felt a bit uneasiness mainly because of the use of curse words too often. I even thought about closing the book forever.
🌹 But Oindrilla and her mind voice was way too funny for me to resist. And it only got better as the story goes.

Overall, it was a nice read. If you love reading light stories with so much to laugh then definitely go for this one.

"The Ex Factor" follows the misfortunes of Oindrilla Roy, affectionately known as Oinks, as she navigates through a series of unfortunate events. The narrative, however, struggles to strike a balance between genuine human struggles and an overload of melodrama. The author's attempts to pile on miseries - from domestic help deserting her to college messes and an overbearing boss - often feel contrived and excessive, diminishing the reader's ability to empathize.

The cast of characters, with their whimsical nicknames and exaggerated behaviors, feels more like a collection of caricatures than relatable individuals. Sweety Chopra's escapades, Ankita's mess, and Hawkeye's oppressive behavior appear as plot devices rather than authentic elements of character development. Vivek Rao's sudden re-entry into Oinks' life, while meant to add a romantic element, seems rushed and underexplored.

The narrative's fixation on physical appearances, particularly Vivek's transformation from scrawny to hunk, raises questions about the depth of the characters' connections. Oinks' internal monologues about lusting for Vivek come across as shallow and detract from the story's potential for emotional depth.

The writing style tends towards the verbose, overloading the reader with unnecessary details and overwrought descriptions. The constant use of hyperbolic language and dramatic situations can be exhausting, hindering the novel's ability to convey genuine emotions and complexities.

Despite these shortcomings, the novel does manage to convey the idea that unexpected events can sometimes lead to positive changes. Oinks' growth and her willingness to confront her challenges could have been a strong point if they were given more room to breathe amid the melodrama.

In conclusion, it struggles to find its footing amidst its exaggerated plotlines, one-dimensional characters, and overwritten narrative. While it attempts to explore the intricacies of relationships and personal growth, it ultimately falls short of delivering a truly resonant and authentic reading experience.

You will agree that it is a big mess! Oink is being challenged on so many fronts and she is barely able to keep her sanity. She makes it clear through her words and actions that she is getting frustrated with all this chaos around her. Unknown to her, her life is going to be more complex when her ex-Vivek comes back into her life.
How will Oink deal with all this madness and a plethora of challenges? Is there any moment of sanity left for her where she can decide the course of her future? Last but not least, will she survive this onslaught of problems and challenges? Some of you might think that she is very opinionated, short-tempered, and somewhat immature but she is what she is, and behind all these, there is a girl who has the potential to find her way among all the challenges.
I enjoyed reading the book. Oindrilla is not Miss Perfect just like all of us. But she is full of life and she has her aspirations, dreams, and joys as well as regrets, and frustration. You will root for her and will want her to be happy and successful. I hope you too find her charming in her way. Find out yourself how you like Oinks! Do give this book a chance.

Morning in a normal Bengali house starts with a thud. Being a Bengali, I'm really not into those stuff but you don't dare to ignore them. Similarly in Harini Srinivasan’s “The Ex Factor”, we get to meet Oindrilla Roy, a 25-year-old who is having a disastrous week. Her parents are civil servants. Moreover, their maid who was also a Bengali had to run away two days back from this madhouse, and now the cook. Oindrilla’s mother was shrieking on her phone when she got up. Okay, so this is the usual scenario.

Now, as the duty of both the maids has come onto their shoulders Oindrilla is made the victim of taking out both their dogs to walk who were considered children to her parents more than her. Choco- a labrador and Chipki- a rescued stray dog. Everything was going tangled so far but no! Her boss had to smash a bomb by sending her a message to be present within half an hour with all the information that he needed to address in a meeting at 10:00.

From serving a deadline to the tantrums of office colleagues, she finds solace and home in her friends Sweety and Tejas who happen to offer all the gossip. To add more messiness to her already tangled life, Vivek her ex reappears but this time supposedly with love. From then on it would be such a joyful ride to watch how Oindrilla’s life with unfold.

Such a light, warm, smart, and witty book this is. Very well written in super easy language to keep up the flow. This generation can easily relate. A crazy household, deadlines, friends, exes, and so on are correctly implicated. This is an absolute rom-com, do not expect to read a cozy romance. Having said that I would also agree that cuss words have become a fashion nowadays to look cool but I would say that you be cool rather than look a fool by using unnecessary words. The closure could have been a bit thoughtful that's what I felt. The humor part had me hooked.
You would laugh out loud with the story and won't even realize when it would be over and be smiling.

Harini Srinivasan's "The Ex-Factor" is a brilliant scholarly mixture that magnificently mixes humour, interesting Hindi terms, and an arresting story to make a connecting with story. With a cunning touch, Writer winds around a story that dazzles perusers from the absolute first page.

Set against the scenery of a speedy present-day world, the book acquaints us with Oindrila Roy, a self-claimed compulsive worker Information investigator. Her reality turns upside down when she out of the blue runs into Vivek, reviving a heartbeat that she had long covered underneath her expert interests. As their lives interlace, the creator deftly explores the intricacies of human connections, consistently mixing the serious with the humorous.

The story's pacing is even, which kept me drew in with a mix of humour, sentiment, and kinship elements. The co-operations between Oindrilla, Sweety, and Tejas give endearing minutes and grandstand the significance of solid companionships in exploring life's difficulties. I additionally began recalling my companions and the bond we shared.

Oindrilla's encounters exploring her requesting chief, particular partners, and the steady shuffle among family and expert commitments hit home for anybody who has encountered the turmoil of current life. The writer portrays Oindrilla's reality, consistently moving perusers to the vivacious urban communities of Delhi and Kolkata, as well as the tranquil scenes of Shillong. Harini unbelievably meshes different topics into the account, including love, shock, fellowship, workplace issues, and familial bonds. This complex methodology enhances the story and permits perusers to associate with various aspects of Oindrilla's life.

The characters in The Ex-Factor are unimaginably advanced. Every one embraces a totally refreshed outlook on life with their own peculiarities and extraordinary characters. Particularly Sweety, Ankita and Divya who makes such a great deal show in Oindrilla's life.

Harini Srinivasan's "The Ex Factor" is a delightful romcom that centers around the life of Oindrilla Roy, affectionately known as Oinks. At 25 years old, she's a fiercely independent young woman, raised by parents who are both civil servants. However, her life is far from ordinary, set within the chaos of a bustling Bengali household where even the family dogs seem to garner more attention than her. Oinks, characterized by her antisocial tendencies, rarely holds a favorable view of the people she encounters.
Amidst the pandemonium, she finds solace in the company of her best (and only) friends, Sweety and Tejas. Just when it seems like her life is as messy as ever, an unexpected collision with Vivek Rao occurs. He's the man who heartlessly dumped her during their school days. What follows is a comedic rollercoaster as readers wonder if Oinks will seek vengeance or if a new connection will blossom between them.
The humor in the book is expertly crafted, delivering constant amusement. I found myself either giggling or laughing throughout the read. Oindrilla's inner monologue, which is a mix of absurdity and sensibility, is nothing short of brilliant.
The incorporation of Hindi words and phrases enhances the reading experience, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the narrative.
While "The Ex Factor" is primarily a romcom, it's best enjoyed with that genre in mind rather than purely as a romantic story. In this regard, the book excels. However, I must express my reservation about the excessive use of profanity, which felt unnecessary and could have been avoided.
Despite this, the story had me laughing heartily. It's a relatable romcom that will particularly resonate with Gen-Z readers. The book is concise, humorous, and a light-hearted read. I applaud the author for taking the bold step of writing in such an unconventional yet engaging manner. "The Ex Factor" is impossible to overlook and offers a refreshing take on the genre.

With a dash of humor and vibrant depictions of various settings, the author breathes life into the story, creating an absolute joy to read.

Oinks shines as a strong, self-reliant woman who gracefully tackles life's challenges, making her an easily relatable and endearing lead character. The story maintains a lively pace, even though there's room for a bit more depth in the development of the supporting cast.

"The Ex Factor" is a well-crafted, light-hearted, and engrossing novel, penned in an accessible style that perfectly resonates with the spirit of today's generation. It captures the whirlwind of daily life, the enduring bonds of friendship, and the unexpected return of former flames. Oindrila Roy AKA Oinks has a life full of Chaos, what with finding out about her best friend and her lover, living in a mad Bengali house (her words), her office colleagues who she thinks she has them all figured out but as you further go in the novel you watch her realise somethings in her life are not what they were in her head and then there is the re-entry of the boy she loved,Vivek Rao who as she says betrayed her with her then best friend in school, Shreya. As Oindrilla and Vivek meet for her work project in the picturesque Shillong do sparks fly again or someone else is falling for Oindrilla. Read this book to find out.
.
The story is told through one POV and that is Oinks words and her lingo. It's all her. Oinks is clumsy, has tens of things happening in her life and hundred thoughts in her brain.
.
There are moments in the book that make you laugh out loud and also at the same time go "what is the character doing?" I think Oinks has to be the most annoying but relatable character I have seen.
.
Her relatability factor also comes in with her living in a metro city and working in the corporate sector. In my experience, the book has a beating heart and that's its commendable characteristic.
.
As we read about all the chaos that Oindrilla is going through I personally felt there were some places where the narrative could have a tad bit more storytelling through the countless situations Oinks was going through. Hell with her family , eloping friends, not to forget her professional and personal life overlapping and I personally wanted to know more about it.
.
The Ex -Factor by Harini Srinivasan is a perfect blend of madness, chaos, laughs and relatability.
.
If you are a Delhi girl working in the corporate sector at Gurugram or if you work in the corporate sector in general you will understand Oindrilla Roy like no one else.

Oindrilla Roy (Oinks for her friends) who once ran away to Delhi to learn Korean language to forget her heartbreak, is now forced to work with the reason of her heartbreak, Vivek Rao, her classmate, and love from high school. When Oinks bumps multiple times into Vivek, little did she know that her next project assignment in the picturesque Shillong will bring back Vivek into her life.

More shocks await her in the form of her cousin Ankita and her best friend Sweety and her lover Ankita. Will Oinks be able to handle all the curveballs thrown at her all at once and will she able to rekindle the relationship that she always dreamt with Vivek forms the rest of the story.

The story in a light-hearted read concentrating more on the characters, their individual quirks and the humor created out of these situations than a solid plot. Oindrilla is the typical hard-working person at any workplace whom people can always depend on and the ever-obedient daughter to her parents. The most refreshing aspect of the narration is Oindrilla’s inner voice which says stuff that she never utters aloud owing to the image she maintains.

The first half is a breezy read with all the humor from Oinks interactions with her colleagues and her family. The second half is where the story takes a hit, as the narration drags, and the story lacks a proper direction. The twists also fail to impress in the second half especially towards the end. The fast-paced narration, quirky characters and humor are the plus points. A more engaging second half could have done wonders to this story that begins with a bang.

If contemporary urban stories that are lighthearted are your go to genre, then this book is sure to entertain you.

🧡Our Protagonist Oindrilla Roy affectionately called Oinks by her peers is a person who often takes actions before thinking and then has to face the consequences of it which isn't often of much merry inspite of living more head which is very contradictory behaviour of hers. Life seems to be very chaotic for her with everyone seeking her attention at the same time and she also leads to find herself tangled up in various unwelcomed situations. Juggling between meeting the demands or expectations from her parents, to house help , the pets, her boss; she finds it very hard to cope up with but it doesn't end here she also meets with the set of shenanigans of her cousin and best friend. Soon a chance encounter with her long time crush Vivek with whom she had to even work on a project who seemingly likes her even more now but in the past he was the reason Oinks took some bad decisions so amidst all the chaos would she again take the leap of towards love.
💙

🧡This book is a light fluffy rom-com read. The narrative was lucid with easy usage of language which also makes it beginner friendly. Nicely plotted mild paced story. Though the romance felt rushed, Vivek was engaged with a girl who broke off the engagement and then he suddenly realised his love for Oinks which is weird; I would have really loved to see more of their bonding and relationship. Also there wasn't much character development of Oindrila. Her reaching to conclusion without communication or confrontation remained the same. Most of the characters lack emotional depth and rationale My favourite character would be her mom I loved her strong spirited persona alot. I enjoyed reading about the funny and witty banter of the characters and how our Protagonist finds herself tangled up in various situations.

Reading a romantic novel is always a great deal but if the book is a rom-com, you may not even get a chance to feel bored with unusual climax of heartbreaks. The beauty of rom-com story is , it makes you giggle, laugh and have fun journey throughout the story. The book "The Ex Factor" by author Harini Srinivasan is a typical Rom Com that revolves around the main Protagonist of story, 25 year old Oindrilla Roy nick named as Oinks and few other names. She is quite independent with a decent job and earning. Oinks parents are civil servants and belonged to a Bengali Family having a lot of twists and dramas. Sometimes feeling secluded she finds her family in her two friends Sweety and Tejas, her best buddies to dote on. The jokes cracked by Tejas are worth for making Oinks smile. Oinks boss, Rahul is also the one who keeps an eye on her and make the life bit tedious for her with tight deadlines and tasks. If you are thinking life is fun till here, then there comes another character, ex of Oinks, Vivek Rao, who had dumped her in school days. What new situations this new character has to bring in the life of Oindrilla? How the things are twisted and to which extent and that too in a funny way? To lauch more, just get a copy and read it.
The title of the book, The Ex Factor , may make you think that it might be a romantic genre but it turns out to be a Rom com where you won't be able to come out of the laughter zone. Story is that much captivating, that you won't be able to put it away from your eyes. Characterisation is bit dull but the punch lines are a big shot. book is not a long read and hence a great read for anyone. Cover of book looks pretty and is the first thing that will catch your attention. Overall a great and funny read.

One problem at a time, please. These words came into my mind when I started reading the book.

Before jumping into the review, I would like to add that the narration of the book is quite awesome. The story of the book is very simple, just like listening to the suffering of our friend, who needs genuine advice and a good listener.

The main protagonist of the book is Oindrilla, who is working in the private sector, EOFA. She is from a Bengali background, and her parents are working in the civil service. Oindrilla faces common sufferings like job pressure, heartbreak, and being isolated from colleagues. She lived a normal life with her parents and two dogs. She has a limited number of friends with whom she is close. One is Sweety, and the other is her cousin Ankita.

Starting from her career choice to her ex-boyfriend, Oindrilla faced multiple challenges. She did her major in Korean, of which she has no idea. Using it to watch Korean series. She got an opportunity to work in Shillong for a new project. This visit brought a huge change in her life.

Before moving to Shillong, she decided to meet her relatives and cousin in Calcutta. On her way, she happens to meet her ex-boyfriend, Vivek Rao, coincidentally. She tried to avoid him, and fate ended up having them work together.

One call from her mother about Ankita and her friend Sweety made her life a mess. The rest of the story is about what the call is about, how she overcame the situation, and how she overcame the awkwardness of working alongside her ex.

The book is fast-paced and fun-filled, with a few laughs here and there. I felt connected with a few chapters and incidents.

After hearing a lot about this book, I decided to pick it up and read it. So, the book, "The Ex Factor"by Harini Srinivasan is a romcom, which revolves around the life of Oindrilla Roy AKA Oinks who is a 25-year old independent girl with both of her parents being civil servants.

Being a member of a crazy Bengali family in which not even a maid can survive and where the two dogs are considered more important as babies than Oinks herself, she finds her whole life is messed up.In her not-so-peaceful life, she finds her home in her closest friends, Sweety and Tejas.

From completing all the tasks perfectly before meeting the deadline just to save herself from the wrath of her Hawkeye boss, Rahul, to ignoring the jealous aunties in her office, along with her never-ending love for listening to the gossips that Tejas offers, Oinks accepts her reality and keeps on getting tangled in her very own messy life.

However, her life welcomes another trouble, when it gets into a strange yet shocking turn. She accidentally comes across Vivek Rao, her ex, who had dumped her in their school days. What happens next? Is this trouble a sweet one or a destructive one?

This is a rom-com, so I would suggest every reader to read it as a rom-com not as a romantic genre. So, as a rom-com, this book definitely did a great job!! However,I didn't like the excessive use of the cuss words, and I feel these have been used unnecessarily and it could have been avoided. No doubt, the story made me laugh a lot, but the characters lacked depth, that could have been focussed a bit.

Overall, a good, light read. If you want to declutter your head, and have a good laugh, then this one's for you!
