It was supposed to be a routine mission; get in, fix the cameras that went down at the abandoned tunnels, and go home. Unfortunately, nothing is ever simple, and now Willow finds herself fleeing the Savages hunting her.
When Declan learns Lucien and four other members of the Alliance are missing, he’s determined to bring them home…even if it means relinquishing the control he’s spent centuries learning to maintain.
After finally locating Willow, he realizes finding her was the easy part. Getting out alive is the real challenge, especially once they learn the Savages have discovered a new, deadly weapon. With their feelings for each other growing, Declan must come to terms with a past that has haunted him for centuries. Will they live long enough for Willow to accept him when she learns the truth?

Perfect writing style and amazing story line where it grabs you and you better hold on. It was amazing to read about them and the savages really looking forward to licians book should be amazing

I realy loved this book. Declan it's one of my favourites. He's so funny, I crack everytime he gives those witty coments... Willow what can I say she's a Byrne... And wtf it's about that sword... I can't wait for Lucian's story, he has to make it... Thank you Brenda for all the good books you write... You rock...

Nothing to write home about. Not bad. Not great. Just enough quality to keep you reading/listening while you get your chores done.
Listened to the Audible Audiobook. I am only leaving a review here, not on Audible, as I refuse to type out two reviews when Amazon owns both companies and refuses to link Audible to Goodreads.
This was just an okay read for me. I've loved the other books in this series since the very beginning, but this one for some reason, isn't one of my favorites.
Brenda did it again and wrote an amazing book. I thinking this might be my favorite so far out of the series. I have loved Declan's character since book 1 and Brenda did a wonderful job pairing him with Willow.
Willow is from the Byrne clan and when she reached maturity she decided to join the Alliance, even though her family was concerned. She felt she was doing good and she will get revenge on the Savages for Doug's untimely death. On a mission with Lucien and a few others they ran into a huge problem. They all separated and ran for their lives. Alone, hurt and starving, Willow managed to hold on until Declan and the others found her only to end up still fighting for her life and Declan's life in an epic journey.
Declan has lived for over 600 years. He puts on this easy going facade on the outside but inside he is battling demons. He has secrets from his past that only Ronan knows and he has abilities that he is the only one who knows what they truly are. He knew he was attracted to Willow from the beginning but didn't understand she was his mate until they were alone fighting for their lives and his feelings were getting stronger. She calmed the demon in him and he knew what she was to him.
I truly loved and enjoyed reading Declan's and Willow's story. There was alot of action and some steamy scenes. There is a surprise that they come across that may help them in this fight or put a bigger target on their back. I can't wait to find out in Book 6, Lucien's story. Even though through the series Lucien always seemed like a hothead I just believed he was fighting his own demons on the inside. I know Book 6 is going to be epic I just hope Lucien fight those demons on the inside of him and in reality!!!!
I totally pegged Willow for Declan in Vampire Awakenings. I don’t know what it was about the brief glimpses of Willow that just said she would be perfect for him but it just felt like Willow would be amazing with Declan. And to finally learn, well mostly learn, exactly what Declan’s ability is awesome.
Firstly, Willow is the G of G’s right behind Vicky. Her resilience and constant will to fight to stay alive. And I loved how perfect Willows name is for her. He affinity towards the animals and plant life gives her name new meaning. And I’m a bit curious to see if that ability develops into something more.
I was thrown for a loop over something so simple. This whole time I was thinking Declan liked the taste of the lollipops he ate. Now we find out he is as bad as Aiden was, and uses them to ground himself. All props go to Declan because he came close to going over to only have to fight his way back and continue to fight his back for over 500 years. Hell I don’t know if I would have held out that long. And I consider myself to be of strong will.
But he is stronger for it. He has persevered through everything and is now a better man. And thankfully he loses his control for Willow. And I think that is all he needs to stay grounded. I was amazed to find out he has gone 500 years with no intimacy. Man that is a long flipping time.
I am curious to learn more about this sword though. And why Willow is the only one that can wield it? I’m assuming we will learn more in Lucien’s book. And I can’t wait.
Since we first meet Declan I've wanted to know more about him and his strange lollipop obsession he has. I did like that we got a more indepth look into Declan, even if he thinks he's a monster he's not, he's such a gentleman and he would do anything for those he cares for. Willow is a pretty badass female, as one of the only females to be apart of the Alliance/Defenders she has to be an epic warrior and this book proves that she more than has what it takes to "hang with the boys," I mean in the beginning of the book she was still moving even with a broken ankle. I did like how it seemed as if Declan and Willow strengthed each other throughout the whole time they were fighting together and that they would do anything to make sure the other left the fight alive, even if they didn't. I also liked that this book kinda reminded me of Killan's book, in that it's just the two of them against the world fighting to stay alive while trying to get to safety, but that was where the similarities ended and this book was completely different. I can't wait to find out where Lucian is in the next book and hopefully we find out more answers about what the demons have planned, and Willow's new shiny acquire from this book.
I was so excited to read this story. I absolutely love this series. It's full of action, family and characters you will love forever. This story is entertaining, fun to read and addictive. I couldn't put it down.
Willow is all grown up, beautiful and a fighter. She's been on the run and fighting to stay alive. She knows that she has to keep going. Her family and friends are her heart and happy place. They give her the strength to keep moving and fighting.
Declan feels helpless and nervous for his friends fate. He knows he has to find them and he needs to make sure Willow is safe. He knows they have a connection but he's not willing to explore what it means.
They find each other and together they have to fight to stay alive. They both know that need to keep moving. They protect each other and fight their attraction. They survive many challenges and form a strong bond.
Things get steamy when they finally admit and accept that they are mates. They have sizzling chemistry and a wonderful mischievous relationship. They are perfect for each other. This is one of top books in this series. I absolutely recommend it.
This series just keeps building, and every page is part of an amazing journey.
Willow finally joins the Alliance... Her family supports her but at the same time wish she was safe at home, the thing is Willow knows the world they live in 'safe' is a relative term and she wants to do her part to keep everyone she loves safe.
Declan, sweet, sexy, and tortured just what you would expect from a purebred vampire his age... so seriously it would stand to reason and fate that Willow is his mate right??? I mean she is sweet, young and can hold her own in any given situation... I love these two together they always have each other's back.
I love how these stories have a continuous flow from one book to the next but the essentials to the story are wrapped up in one book, but the threads to the bigger story are dangled over for the next book and that just keeps me hooked and hanging out for next release day.
Found this on Hoopla and really can’t determine who the audience this books aims to reach. Young adult? It’s pretty much like any paranormal/urban vampire saving humanity from evil creatures (like black dagger brotherhood and others I’ve read and noted in my reviews). This one is better than most, particularly there was no ridiculous slang like BDB which was wonderful. I really enjoyed the fight scenes. This really didn’t need the odd romance between a 600 plus year old male vampire with issues and a 24 yo fresh naive female vampire. That just gave off a creepy vibe. But the attraction is a fated mates romance (not my cup of tea). This book would be better without the romance. Some telling and moments in their head that should’ve been edited out but overall, worth the read. I’d read another if it shows up through the library.
When Willow goes with Lucien to investigate some failed security cameras, they are attacked by Savages and she gets separated from the others. It turns out to be a good thing (maybe) when she is rescued by Declan. But the Savages are more organized and determined than previously believed.
Biggest problem was the constant switching between POVs from paragraph to paragraph made it extremely hard to keep track of who was thinking what and what was happening to whom. There was no pause of any kind between them.
Footnote: 1) The branches in most pine trees I know are not very conductive to climbing.
Fave scenes: up in the pine tree, the deer & the fox, Willow attacking Derrick and the water buckets.
Another great installment by Brenda, I have really enjoyed Willow and Declan’s story. Starting as a routine camera check at an abandoned savage compound things quickly turn from bad to worse. Running for her life, will she survive long enough to get back to her friends and help save Lucian before it’s too late. I was hooked from the beginning.
On returning to the compound and hearing Lucians unit including willow has been attacked, Declan doesn’t delay in trying to get to her. Willow is a great warrior and I feel she is a great match for Declan. They are such polar opposites in many aspects, but seem to balance each other out, making a perfect team. Declan has always been a favourite of mine, so I couldn’t wait to get my teeth stuck into this installment.
Nothing gets the heart pumping faster than running for your life. On a routine boring camera check run ended not being boring as Willow Byrne runs for her life against Savages. From the beginning heart pumping action as one crew needs rescued by another crew. Declan Koegh comes home from Mexico after fighting a demon only to be sent on another mission only its to rescue his fellow Alliance members. Trying to get out of sticky situations makes this a fast read as the suspense and dire situations keep the reader entranced and glued. With the mystery of where Lucien is, we get a glimpse at the end and hope his friends save him.
I gotta say I expected a little more. Declan has been my favorite character so far. Very mysterious but incredibly charming and easy going. So I was super excited to read his story, now I'll admit that what happened to him was pretty brutal, more insight on his powers and the escape scene at the end was great even though short but the story of him and willow coming together and the story line in general fell flat. I expected more drama and action and I just didn't feel it. I just expected more considering everyone else's story. This was just a little boring. But nevertheless happy for his HEA.
I have been waiting to read Declan story like forever. I can't say the plot wasn't good and that I learned alot about his background. However with all his powers and strength I kept waiting to see this major transformation sitting on the edge of my seat to take place and I kept reading and reading and the focus kept on willow. I am glad a female became the highlight here, but such a disappointment no heart riveting action from Declan. Aww come on. I know the next book is written but I hope his talents come out in the future books, I want to see him tear up some limbs 😔
I really like this series , I’ve reread them a few times. Brenda does a good job with placing all characters where they should be and remembering. Just a couple small things, one : they all have button dress shirts. My question is why? How uncomfortable would that be fighting in shirts with no give. Bring on the t-shirts. Two: what’s with the roll the shoulders forward and charge in a fight? Don’t think that would work out very well for the charger but very well for the charge’ee. Ok that’s it.
I'm obsessed with Brenda k Davies work and this book was soooo intense. They just couldn't catch a break from the savages. Willow and Declan fighting endlessly to keep each other alive was amazing. The sex however was SUCH a let down from every other book Ms. Davies has written. Each scene seem like foreplay and I was not happy with that by the end of the book. I still look forward to the next as usual 😊
I have been so excited for Declan’s book to release and I’m so sad I got through it so fast. I couldn’t stop though! The storyline was really good. From the beginning, it had me on the edge of my seat. Declan and Willow’s fight to live and get free from the Savages was action packed and suspenseful. I loved that these two were mates and their journey to know each other. I’m super excited to see what Lucian’s story will be. That ending!!!! Can’t wait!
Willow, is a badass warrior who also has a total Snow White vibe with woodland animals... What's not to love? This author delivers again with an action-packed story and another great couple unlike any of her previous characters. Her books are like people-watching at the most fascinating place ever, and I always know I'm going to be rewarded with a squeal-worthy HEA. Now, I just have to get through the wait for her next one.
Declan has always been one of my favorites. I am a bit sad as I have both audible in all the books and I like that they gave him an accent in the first couple and not this one. That was a fun a perk but still his and Willow's coming together as mates was in such a horrible setting but ended up being so beautifully matched. I've read this book many times because of it.
Every book is an individual story. Declan has always been my favorite character, so
Every book is an individual story which takes talent when writing a series. Declan has always been my favorite Alliance member. And I'm so happy you made him even more of my hero. I feel you chose well with Willow. She's a challenge and has talents which will save them all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read every book in this series and loved them. This book was amazing. Declan and Willow are on fire! My heart goes out to Declan. Willow is so perfect for him. The story is pact full of action and surprises. Definitely a page turner. I need the next book like right now. Love this author!
I love this series. Every book is great, each better than the one before. I can honestly say this series continually gets better, each book you learn more about our favorites. New problems and new attributes arise. Page turner, edge of seat books. Only reason I'm a bit sad is I'm all caught up and now I have to wait for the next release.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Brenda's books are can't stop, can't put down kind of stories that suck you in from the very first page to the very last. Declan and Willow 's story was so sweet and filled with strong characters that support each other and make such a good storyline together. I can't wait for Lucien's story!
This whole story was great.I'm glad it wasn't a slow read. I read it all in about 3 hours. Ok now next Lucian s story I'm not sure if ill read it or not I predicted on the first page that his mate would be who he fed from who knows maybe the writer and me think the same. Haha of course ill read the next book I have all of her books
Declan and Willow have great chemistry..I wish there was a continuation with their story as it was just getting good to the end. I love that you always include characters from the other series and vice versa with the alliance. Im curious to see where your heading with Lucian story..I can’t wait. Keep them coming Brenda.
