Lionel Messi is one of the world's best soccer players ever and he has one many awards including five Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball in French), which is given to the best player in the world that year. When he was a little boy, about four years old he was more interested in playing with glass marbles and collecting picture cards than with the soccer ball, but one day he saw his dad and brothers playing soccer he wanted to join, and his dad and brothers for a surprise, he was so good at the game it was ridiculous that it was Leo's first time playing and it was the birth of a star. One day, his grandmother took Lionel's brother out to soccer practice, and the little one tagged along. When they arrived their grandmother was told that one of the teams needed a player. Leo went to go join the team of boys that were older than him. He was shy and when the ball bounced to him he caught it with his right foot but didn't know what to do with it, so it bounced away, but the next time it came to him he caught it with his left foot and took off. He passed all the midfielders and defenders and left them in the dust and then he scored. The coach and his grandmother, Celia watched in awe as they witnessed the making of the kid who was born to play soccer, from Rosario, Argentina, born on June 24, 1987 and his name was Lionel Andres Messi.

This book is about a soccer player named Messi which in my opinion is the best soccer player that has been on this earth. Messi is an inspiration to me one of his quotes that stood out to me was when he said "you can overcome anything, if and only if you love something enough". That quote stood out to me because he wasn't going to be able to go pro because of his height however his passion was beyond anything and he took medicine to grow. If i could describe this book in 3 adjective it would be inspirational, motivational , and surprising. I recommend this book to anybody who is an athlete about to give up on his dream.

My book review is over the book I really enjoyed, Messi. Messi was born on June 24, 1987. He is a professional soccer player that plays for the famous Barcelona team, and international team Argentina. He first started playing for a club that was coached by his father. At the age of 13 Messi was diagnosed with hormone deficiency and was not going to be able to continue his soccer career but FC Barcelona offered to pay for his medical bills as long as he would train with them. Messi was now becoming the greatest soccer player in his country. After making his first debut at the age of 16 with FC Barcelona, he had already put his name in the record book for the youngest player to score a goal for the franchise. Messi was able to lead his team to success winning La Liga in 2010 and 2011. He is one of the most famous athletes in the world and even after retirement he will always be remembered. Barcelona agrees to pay 21 million per year and because of that he is one richest athletes in the world. I believe the author looked at Messi in another perspective to be able to write like he did. This author did an amazing job in describing everything about this athlete, this would have to be one of the best books I have read in a long time just because of the way it is written and all of the details the author uses. Something I didn’t like about this book was the fact that it focused all in his sports and success but never mentioned his family. I think the author should of wrote more about his kid and his wife, it would of made the book more interesting and I would have learned a lot about Messi. Something I really enjoyed from this book was that the author went into so much detail about his success in the sport of soccer. I think this is well deserved for Messi because of all his hard work he had to do to be able to play professional soccer. Of all this book it was really hard choosing one quote but the one that meant the most to me was, “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a happy child. I always help in any way I can, even if it’s just by signing an autograph. A child’s smile is worth than all the money in this world” (page 135). This quote goes to show how much of a good person he is, and just because he has a lot of money he will continue to help the poor and who ever is in need. I would definitely recommend this book to other people because I found this to be one of the most detailed books I have ever read and because this book is also motivating. It shows that no matter what problems you have, in Messi’s case hormone deficiency, that with hard work and determination anything can be done.

My husband picked this up for our 8-year old. He was mostly interested in the Messi board game in the back of the book.
I read certain parts out loud, and my husband and I laughed uproariously. Many of the entries are unintentionally funny. It is, however, interesting and insightful. Would make a great gift for a young soccer enthusiast.
