Forty miles east of New Orleans, dog tired and out of money, nineteen year old Jax and his little brother are on the run. They stop for breakfast at a roadside café and have a run-in with the leader of a tough looking motorcycle gang. His name is Cade D’Allisande, an alpha wolf leading his pack to a new home in North Carolina, hoping to join the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack. Cade instantly recognizes his bloodlust mate, an intense and rare blood match that forms an alpha pair. The trouble is Cade isn’t ready for a mate. Unable to leave him behind, he convinces the young man to join their group and takes him with them on their journey to find a new home. But once there, an old enemy of the Pack threatens their happiness, and Jax, Nicky and Gabe must team up to save their mates.
Something stronger than a blood match? The one which drives wolf shifters crazy with lust and makes them want to protect their mates at all costs – even the mate’s pride and independence? As hinted at in the blurb, there are apparently another few interesting extras linked to this “bloodlust” phenomenon. Needless to say, it had me fascinated and wanting to read this volume as soon as I got my hands on a review copy. And boy, did it match my expectations!
Jax is on the run. His little eight-year-old brother in tow, he is heading away from his home town in Alabama as fast as truckers will give him rides. With no money to speak of (all of seventeen dollars in his pocket), nothing but the clothes on their back, and the constant fear of not being able to provide, he carries a heavy burden on his nineteen-year-old shoulders. A burden that makes him do things he wouldn’t normally consider, and that is how he has his first run-in with Cade. Scared shitless by what the huge man might want from him, Jax makes a few more escape attempts before he realizes there is no point. Not that he stops fighting the weird attraction between them or standing up for himself, but the utter terror vanishes as soon as he understands that Cade will not hurt him.
Cade is an alpha on his way to finding a new home for his small pack - his cousin Zach of the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack from previous books in this series – has offered him some land. Cade is about as overbearing, domineering, and arrogant as any alpha I’ve ever met (in fiction!), but he isn’t ready to settle with one mate. And he has always liked women more than men, so why has fate picked a man for him? Yeah, he fights the bond and what it means about as hard as Jax fights for his independence.
Luckily for them, both lose those particular battles, and they end up in an uneasy truce. Physical attraction and a common enemy will have to do the rest… If you like a struggle between the wills of two stubborn fated mates, if you enjoy reading about a smaller man who is just as strong and determined as any physically larger alpha wolf shifter, and if you're looking for a shifter story with a slight twist, then you will probably like this ninth novella in the series.

Alright, so this one had me laughing my butt off and not for anything that was intentionally funny. In the very first chapter we have the MC Jax and his brother Mason reliving the bathroom scene from Pursuit of Happyness. And unfortunately this wasn't the only one. A few chapters later, Jax attempts an escape from his mate Cade and he and his brother run. Dropped off by a good Samaritan at a truck stop Jax gets himself and his brother into trouble by accepting another ride with a trucker that doesn't have their best interests at heart. What begins next is the scene from Twilight where Bella is being harassed by the drunken men in the parking lot behind the bookstore. All most verbatim. I couldn't believe that the author would fall back on something so ridiculous and it was embarrassing to read.
As for Jax and Cade, the relationship was almost...pathetic. There was no real passion and with the way the books are being written, they end without any wrap-up. So all in all it was a bit of a disappointment.
The introduction of a bloodlust "power-up" element to the shifter world was a bit of an overkill for me. Though I expect it will lay some groundwork for Nicki and Marco.
The interaction between Jax and Cade was delicious from the start. Although Jax gave in really easily, despite his past, which fizzled some of the heat between them.
I'll probably stop here with the series. Still an enjoyable series but I'm not really a fan of overly complicated and prolonged major plotlines.
Another amazing installment from Ms. West. Loved this book! I'm hoping Mason Jax's brother will get mated next! we can just skip forward in time for the next book. It's bookworld.. we can do things like that ;)
Soy adicta a esta serie y al genero también! Como siempre, un placer leer estos libros, aunque me parece que en este libro le dieron un poquito menos de protagonismo a la pareja. Vamos a por el próximo!
Wow! What a thriller! Jax and Cade were very unique. I also just loved how Nicky and Marco officially reconciled. These are the perfect paranormal love stories. West is a genius!
Bloodlust is the ninth book in the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack series. I found this one to be vastly different than the ones that came before it. The main character Jax is pretty young and he is on the run with his little brother. They hitch rides until they end up at a truck stop but they don’t have a lot of money for food. Being a giving person, Jax would rather have his brother eat than himself and he will do anything to protect his baby brother from harm.
Cade D’Alisande is the alpha to a band of biker wolves and he sees Jax take a tip off the table before leaving the diner. He takes this opportunity to stop him and talk to until he gives the tip back. At first I thought Cade was arrogant and mean, especially when we the readers knew Jax needed the money since he was starving. Although Cade does manage to redeem himself, he proves to be protective, smart, and loving. Jax has a hard time with trust but once Cade reassures him, Jax goes all in. The slow build up to this story is vastly different from the previous books and I found it really believable. Towards the end of this book we meet characters we know and love from previous books, so I would suggest reading this book in order to get the full impact. I also loved the caring and sweetness this book brings to this series. I hope to see more from the sexy wolves and those who love them in the future.
After the awesomeness of book 8 this one was a bit of a letdown at the end. There was a lot of build-up about the "bloodlust" and how the mate would transform but we didn't see any of this. It was like the book was cut off before the story was over. It left you with a lot of questions. The entire climax in itself was also very anticlimactic. On top of all of that, traits of the characters themselves were left lacking, especially in the side notes regarding Jax's clothes. He specifically considered his style an expression of his true self and Case itched to change him. There was really no expected conflict on this and the issue of his piercings that were supposed to "heal over"' The general plot and characters were a good concept, but I'd like to know what happened to the rest of the story. Also, don't tell me the wolves were just gonna let that sick stepfather get away? And the truckers? You expect me to believe they didn't meet some random accident? As protective and possessive as these wolves are supposed to be? Really!

Laugh out Loud! I am pretty sure that a nineteen year old anybody doesn't say “Let me go, I tell you. I’ll kill you when I get up.” Most likely it would be 'Let me go you fuck!' or 'Let me go asshole!' NOT 'Let me go, I tell you.' 'I tell you' I'm sorry who says that? I'm pretty sure this book is set in this century. So, I read and read again and said, 'no no it was one little thing keep reading maybe its a one off.' OH NO HE DID NOT! Not 2 pages later.... dun dun dunnnn Mr. Alpha Machismo spanks the 19 yr old while his 8 year old brother is in the bathroom of a hotel! (He was changing his clothes. The implied time frame here would be like what 3-4 minutes? Really not enough time to threaten and perform said spanking for cussing. And what the hell is that about?) What the every loving fuck? Ridiculous, I tell you!
Bloodlust.....much more than the bloodmatch of all previous stories, is a new twist in the tales of the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack. Cade knows when he first scents Jax that its more than a simple bloodmatch. He scents him from much further away than normal and is overcome with a red haze and almost shifting to his wolf on first touch. But Cade is totally disturbed by his feelings as Jax appears to be much too young to be a mate. We are given hints throughout the book as to what bloodlust is but the story doesn't really develop these ideas in any really meaningful way. A little disappointing but hopefully this will be expanded upon in later stories. Overall it was still a very enjoyable read and I hope there will be more books in the future.
Different but not much and not in a good way. Cade was pretty assholeish in the beginning and never got better and Jax, while his tragic past was supposed to make me feel sorry and empathize with him, I never really liked him either. He was just a kid no matter what he said. He acted like one and after a while he just irritated the hell out of me. Cade...well Cade, Marco and Zack all acted like bossy possessive jerks all mindful to remind their own mates how inferior they were all the time. Considering their attitudes...I really wonder what Nicky, Gabe and Jax saw in them. I sure as hell didn't see anything worth keeping around. Overall? I was more upset than exactly happy with this story. Just. Meh.

I like how Shannon West incorporates the characters from the previous novels and keeps them current in the story. I am looking forward to seeing how Cade’s pack settles in and see who is next up for their HEA. This is book 9 in the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack Series and it is still going strong and in my opinion Ms. West keeps the stories fresh and I can’t wait for the next one to catch me up on old friends and introduce me to some new ones.
Jax was just 19 and had been abused by his step-father. He has taken his eight year old brother and fled with very little money and only the close on their backs. I loved how someone so young was fighter and willing to protect his little brother. Therein lies my biggest complaint with this book.
Other saying Jax's name Mason does not speak the whole book. Jax also doesn't once have a conversation with him on paper. I found that odd since the whole reason for them being on the run was for Mason's protection.
Just another case of "hey I can see you've been abused and are scared to death but let me threaten to send you and your little brother you are trying desperately to protect away just so I can get my way" with some physical punishment thrown in. I'm all for a hot spanking scene but punishing grown people (especially ones written as feminine) just disgusts me. This is not a phenomenon exclusive to this book but annoying just the same. Then it goes downhill from there.
3.5 stars I really loved Jax. He was so tough and brave trying to take care of himself and his brother. Cade annoyed me a little in the beginning with always seeing Jax as the boy he didn't want, but Jax proved to be something else and not an idiot kid.
I also loved his Jax and Nicky hit it off but I felt so bad for Nicky. He was always so miserable for what he lost and knew he could never have what Jax and Cade had.
Loved it! Love the whole series, especially how Shannon West manages to interweave all the old characters into the new stories, and yet keep the new stories fresh and interesting. Loved the characters and loved the interaction with the other wolfs and pets
