"But sometimes, the best love stories are the ones that come without warning."
WESTON SINCLAIR is the star of the Eastburgh Devils Hockey Team. He knows how to use his popularity as an ice hockey player. He loves getting all the applause when he scores a goal for the team. But he's looking for one specific person in the crowd. His Dad. The one person who never shows up at his games or shows support, which Weston longs for terribly.
LUNA MONTGOMERY is a sunshine girl through and through. Always smiling, always seeing the best in someone and when she loves, she loves with her whole heart. She couldn't be happier after getting her acceptance letter to Eastburgh Sport University with a spot on the swim team. Her dream finally becomes a reality. After a horrible car accident, all that excitement gets taken away, and her biggest passion turns into her biggest fear.
Suddenly they are roommates and have to share a bathroom. Whom she promises to hate forever after he reveals her greatest fear. Weston has other plans as he tries to get closer to her. Can Luna keep her promise to hate the hockey player forever, keep her distance, and resist him?
Sooo.. I started this book because my best friend was so hyped for it and well i was curious. To my surprise, and some constructive criticism if i may, it wasn’t good.
I hate to be rude in any way, but i was so hyped for this book as well for it not to have gave what everyone in these reviews say it’s giving.
Those four and five star reviewers are LYING through their fingers and i think they need to be more honest especially as ARC readers and reviewers.
And whoever edited this book set the author up to be completely honest cause… sigh. It was not ready to be published, it felt rushed and thrown together.
The MMC is very misogynistic and i’m not rollin with it, i think some of the words are so out of place and things are detailed that don’t really need to be detailed. (the prologue was just not it i’m so sorry don’t hate me.)
it’s giving “she took one step forward and three steps back” because just as it was getting good, here we go with the horrid grammar.
If i could give it zero stars i would, and i’m sorry.
with everything being said, everyone has room to grow. congratulations on your debut novel🥰. keep practicing! i’m sure you’ll get better in your next one🥰. (girl let me be an arc reader next time your friends are fake with a capital F)
i really, really, REALLY wanted to like this. it was one of my most anticipated releases since i discovered lily's instagram.
i hated the mmc so much. usually, i'll not be the biggest fan at the beginning, then they redeem their self by the end. but with weston? nope. don't get me wrong, he had i think 2 or 3 good scenes, in my opinion, but no. i do not like him.
luna, she was alright, in my opinion, i liked her. although all i can remember about her is that she's obsessed with cocoa.
the amount of grammar mistakes in this book.. it PAINED me. i'm the kind of person who physically cannot, ignore grammar mistakes in books. it's just how i work. and the number of times i was confused with the writing... my best advice for lily is to get an editor for the next book(s).
i'm so sad i didn't like this. hope the next books get better.
as lilly said “i hope you'll enjoy, cry, laugh, blush, melt, scream into your pillow, and smirk while reading. SPARKLING HOPE will heal you after it broke you, i promise.”
and guess what? i felt everything and more 🫶🏼
the way luna and weston always managed to find each other 🫶🏼 supporting each other 💌 :
"I want to show you that it's okay to be afraid but that you can manage to do what you love with that feeling of fear,"
"Don't ever think that you're not enough. You are so much more than enough,”
BUT NOT ONLY THEM BECAUSE THE FRIENDSHIPS✨
weston and carter (👑) my fav :
“ I wanted to tell him everything would be okay because this guy deserves so much good in life, and I hope one day he stands where we both dream of.” ❤️🩹
luna and aria:🧁
“When I spent time with Aria, it felt like I was constantly listening to a song and realizing from the first moment that I would never get bored of it. As if that song would always be my favorite.”
and the rest of this big family i was lucky to meet 💐
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOKS ESPECIALLY AFTER THOSE DETAILS🤭
The worst book I’ve ever read. Purely because of the poor grammar. I spent the whole time reading trying to figure out what was happening. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
Luna and Weston’s story is a hockey romance and the first book in the Eastburgh Devils series.
Luna and Wes first meet when Luna moves into his house while hers is being renovated, at first it’s impossible for them to stand each other however as the time passes they start to catch feelings.
Now moving on with the characters… to be honest, Wes was a little sh*t at the beginning 😭😭 BUT he had his character development! :)
I’m a hockey romance enthusiast so I was really excited to read them when i got the ARC, but definitely my fav character was Carter 🤏🏻 reading LunaWes’s story just let me craving more about him 🧸
One of the things I really liked about this book were the friendships, and how Lily (the author) is connecting everything for the next books in the series, there’s something about a series interconnected standalones that just hits different <3
And last but not least, I just want to say thank you Lily Sophia, for sharing me an ARC of your debut novel <3 i wish you everything great for your release date! 🫂🧸
while this book may have not worked out for me, that does not mean it is inherently a bad book. To be honest, the start of my issues with this book was the style of writing. Throughout the entire book, there are typos, words missing, and sentences that don’t make sense. Normally I don’t have issues with bits of bad grammar, but in this case it made the book and the sequence of events vague and hard to understand more times than I could count. In fact, even the characters themselves were vague, and had little growth from the start to the end. From how many POVs we got from Luna’s perspective, very little of her actual personality and character managed to come through. To me, she seemed fairly one dimensional. Weston, the mmc, had the opposite problem. His every thought (which a fair amount of were just objectifying Luna) was written out, to the point where I found his constant need to be an asshole exhausting. Their relationship timeline was very, very fast, with them getting together after only a few weeks—and professing their love to each other only a few days after that. Lastly, the reason for the third act break up irritated me. While it was a fair reason to actually break up, it was just too recognisable as a plot device to really be impactful.
So I guess I’ve learnt my lesson, and I will not immediately put books on my tbr after I see one quote...
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this arc. This honest review was based off my experience reading this it, which in no way biased me. All opinions are my own.
I WISH I would have liked this book, you have no idea. I don’t go into books expecting not to like them. But this one really did not click with me at all.
If i could give this book a zero i would but i'm giving it a 1🫶🏻
lilly thank u so much for sending me an arc of your amazing debut !!
how to describe sparkling hope in one single word? easy. “rollercoaster”. once u read it, u will totally understand the feeling.
about the main characters, i won’t lie i was hating wes in the beginning… but his character developed during the story so by the end i was already loving him !! and luna was such a cutie from beginning to end <3
their development as a couple was incredible and how they felt when they were apart… u could really feel how much they missed each other and also how strong they’re after everything that happened during their life. wes and luna are the definition of he falls first and harder so if u love a book w this trope GO READ IT :)
i think that my favorites scenes of wes and luna were when luna told wes multiple times that he was good enough when he thought he wasn’t and all the forehead kisses, so cute !!!!! also the nicknames 🥹🤏🏼
and i gotta say LILLY I KNOW WHY YOU DID THAT BUT I STILL HATE THAT IT HAPPENED *iykik* and yes i still need tissues after all my sobs !
i couldn’t wish for a better reading experience so thank u lilly for publishing this cute book !!! i’m really excited for what’s coming next !!!!
so if u plan of reading sparkling hope i recommend some tissues and cocoa but if u don’t have it on your tbr, go add it already because u won’t regret it <3
To anyone giving this book 4, 5 or even 3 starts: how much were u paid?
hated it from the start, (LIKE THE GRAMMAR!? I SWEAR A CHILD HAS BETTER GRAMMAR THAN THIS) had to push myself to read it, and the ending was what turned this book absolutely horrid.
Well... I liked the book cover and that was that. Unfortunately, I don't think this story makes any sense. I tried very hard to like it, I spent 4 days trying to understand the core of the story and it's all chaos and very unrealistic.
“He found his hope in me as I did in him. This was our story, which was just beginning. Weston was my sparkling hope.”
i’ve been reading so many ice hockey romances, but could you blame me? i always eat up the characters and the books are bound to give me the found family trope i love <3
this was a book i’ve been highly anticipating for ever since i discovered lilly’s account on instagram, and it did not disappoint! i felt so much joy (5 star type of joy) when reading and i got to thank her for it :)
at first i thought it would just be solely around hockey and their lives in college, but then i realized it’s way more as a major plot point occurred, which had me even more hooked to the story
i couldn’t get enough of wesluna. the tension slowly coiling into love for one another <3 i giggled, kicked my feet, cried, and screamed into my pillow at any given moment
weston is the star hockey player who gets what he wants, except for his dad’s support which he’s always yearned for. his development throughout the novel was amazing. he had his ups and downs yes, but he bettered himself not only for him but luna as well. that made me love him even more. also i adore how weston would do anything for luna :)
luna gets a spot in the eastburgh swim team that she’s always dreamed of, however the tables turn when she gets into a fatal car accident. i loved getting to know her, she is the sweetest soul ever and wants the best for those around her. just like the moon (& her name) she shines her light on weston <3
i just want to give these two the biggest hugs ever. the father issues here were so :”)
weston and luna met in the most uncommon way, but soon blossomed into a love that’ll last forever. together they brought the best version of themselves, and even when they are upset, they will always find their way back to each other. i adore how luna is weston’s # 1 supporter the same way weston is with her. as the title says, they are indeed each other’s sparkling hopes 🫶🏻
Lilly Sophia’s debut novel was an absolutely fantastic read. It had me going through all kinds of emotions and I love when a book can do that.
Tropes: Enemies to lovers, hockey romance, he falls first (and harder), cute nickname Things I liked: Weston, the side characters (especially, Carter), the spice Things I disliked: I can’t say what exactly as it would be a spoiler. What I will say is it isn’t something that would deter me from picking up the book!
Luna and Wes get thrown into being “roommates” due to Luna’s family home being renovated. They temporarily move into Wes’ home and the hate they have for each other is instant. I didn’t love how much they hated each other right off the bat, but it kind of makes sense when you’re in college and your life gets uprooted all of a sudden.
Sudden isn’t something that is a one-time thing for them, though. Wes and Luna suddenly find each other in a situation that has them exploring some sensitive areas (if you know what I mean, hehe).
The relationship that starts to blossom is one I just adore. Wes is a really thoughtful guy. He puts up this hard outer shell, and once we got to see more and more of him, we realized why he did. His life wasn’t perfect, and his vulnerability around Luna was so sweet.
Luna had the same vulnerability with Weston and I really think that just made them the perfect match. I definitely think Luna let the outside world form her opinion of Wes, but once she really opened up her eyes; things immediately changed.
The friendships in this story…*chef’s kiss*. I was thrilled to see a girl’s best friend in a book that was truly supportive of her friend. Aria wanted nothing but the best for Luna and that’s something rare. I feel like a lot of girl “friends” in books aren’t truly friends. The guy friendships were just as wonderful. Carter and Wes? Two peas in a pod. They’re hilarious, supportive, and would die for one another.
I could go on and on about the side characters and how they added so much depth to Luna and Wes’ story, but we’d be here forever.
If you want a book with a sweet romance, supportive friends, and a little heartbreak thrown in, pick up Sparkling Hope. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you to Lilly Sophia for the ARC - all thoughts are my own.
Definitely a book that had me feeling nostalgic in some ways because it reminded me so much of Wattpad. Flashbacks to being 14 lol.
It was pretty clear this book hadn’t had an editor because I had a lot of trouble following the story when distracted by the repetitive lines I swear I’d already read four times word for word and all the grammatical and syntactic mistakes.
The number of (what I assume were supposed to be) plot twists was strange to me and the one at the end of the book felt thrown in just to make drama but it didn’t make sense to me. By the time I turned the page and realized it was the epilogue I was like “that’s it??” I had so many questions left unanswered…
While the MC had his moments, the way this relationship felt rushed and just turned 180 all of the sudden was mind boggling. He started off just repeating again and again how much he loved for booze and sex. Actually he repeatedly spoke of his worship for p*ssy 🙄. Obviously the FMC wasn’t impressed but one day she’s suddenly on board and so is he and the hate to love happens and I’m left wondering…why? He didn’t exactly change much…not until later.
3 stars for the Wattpad nostalgia but not a re read or a favourite 🤷♀️
i had to put this as read just to put my review, i DNF it at 9% because i just can’t handle Weston, he treats women as objects and he is the worst person ever, i swear i can’t continue to read a book about a guy who talks about women like that! I love golden retriever boys for a reason and can’t deal with this misogynistic crap!
I was so excited to read this after seeing a few reels on insta but i can’t i just can’t i’m sorry it’s not for me, i don’t judge if you loved this book but i can’t read about men who despise women period. I’ll not be wasting my time giving this a chance when there are so many books out there!
I really enjoyed this one. At first I thought it would be to much cliche for me but it turned out waaaaay better. I mean the main story is a very wonderful enemies to lovers story but I loved even the side-stories. The love for every little detail amazed me. I am looking for the next ones and aren’t even sure which ones Lovestory I want to read. I think everybody here deserves one. Please hurry up- I need part two!!!
Probably one of the worst books I have ever read, largely due to the fact that the grammar is horrible and the flow of everything is awful. It could have been a fun read, but those issues were too hard to ignore, so it made the reading experience really difficult to get through. The editor (if there even was one) really did this author dirty.
DNF I had seen so many reels of this book on Instagram, and the quotes and comments were good, so I was like, why not give it a chance. I read about half the book and kept giving it chances from the start that it would get better, but no. The story is well thought for the series that two best friends fall in love with hockey playing cousins, but the execution is not good at all. The characters are annoying, especially the guy. I love sports romance, but this book is not for me.
This book was easy enough to read but not the best i am in a reading slump so my opinion on books is not the best at the moment the age rating is a 16+ on amazon but seems to me it should be 18+ so i did skim parts of this book, i would recommend if you like hockey romances
64 % this book has potential, the grammar was bad but.... I think it could be good if the plot wasnt just about him being man whore and her waking up one day and thinking I love him after his behavior towards her. I tried so hard to finish this book but Im so pissed off that I can't continue and Im leaving this book behind.
I really think this book could be good and worthy 5⭐ but it needs some edits, seriously.
thanks for coming to my ted talk, have a nice day😘
