From New York Times, bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes to a seductive new paranormal romance set in the World of the Nightwalkers, as a battle-scarred bodyguard and a sensitive beauty risk their lives—and their hearts—in the face of evil.

When Katrina Haynes discovers a large man lying wounded in the snow, she fears he is at death’s door. But as Kat tends to his injuries, she quickly realizes that they’re the least of her worries. With an irresistible Scottish brogue and a strange ability to harden his chiseled body like a statue, the stranger awakens a desire she is unable to resist—and a fascination about the intriguing world he exists in.

As a proud Gargoyle, Ahnvil must safeguard the Nightwalker to whom he’s sworn fealty. But as this bewitching woman nurses him back to health, arousing an almost uncontrollable hunger within him, he is possessed with the fierce impulse to protect her as well. And he will have to shield her—for by coming to his rescue, Kat has placed herself in the middle of a supernatural war . . . and exposed herself to dark, powerful magic. As human and Gargoyle forge an unbreakable bond, Kat will discover that despite his intimidating strength and size, one thing Ahnvil does not possess is a heart of stone.

Initial Thoughts: I absolutely love this series. Who knew a gargoyle could be so big and sexy and lusty? This is a fun book to read and the hero and heroine are very hot together.

The Review:
I love this series. I love the mix of Egyptian mythology with all sorts of paranormal creatures.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to start this series, the first book is called Forbidden. You could theoretically read this book first; the author recaps well and there is a handy glossary at the beginning of the book which explains a bit of this world. For optimum reading enjoyment, I would highly recommend starting with the first book. That way, you could enjoy all the details and nuances of this fascinating world. Each book focuses on a lead couple and while the couple works through their attraction, the crazy villain is usually up to no good. In this particular installment, a very injured and lusty gargoyle meets a woman who just happens to be his perfect match.

In Forged, our lead couple is a gargoyle named Ahnvil and his love interest Kat. Upon escaping the Templar lair, Ahnvil finds himself injured and just outside Kat’s remote cabin in Washington State. Ahnvil is close to turning to stone and Kat manages to rescue him and nurse him back to health. An interesting fact about these gargoyles: they are a lusty lot and that, combined with his Scottish brogue made Ahnvil almost irresistible.

Kat is well suited to live in the world of the Nightwalkers. She is unable to be out in the sun due to a rare skin condition. His world seems to draw her in, especially once she discovers the amulet stolen by Ahnvil. The amulet has an affinity for Kat and she is unable to remove it.

In another plot thread, Druid Bella is compelled to visit Stoney Gorge, Washington (Kat’s home). She and her demon husband Jacob arrive in town and Kat can only see a ghostly image of Bella. Ahnvil is unable to see or hear her.

The chemistry between Kat and Ahnvil was incredible. He was so hot and sexy and of course, huge. (ha!) I loved the sexual tension between these two, especially when Ahnvil was recuperating from his injuries and was all lusty and gropy. Holy hot sexy scenes, too. These two were smoking hot!

One of the things that draws me to this series is the sheer diversity of all of the paranormal creatures. There are gargoyles, night angels, djynn, and more. I especially enjoyed the villain of this series, who has now taken on a very pregnant female form. Just his inner dialogue made this book worth the read.

Forged is an excellent addition to the World of the Nightwalkers series. I can’t wait to read more of this series. In the meantime, I guess I can go back and read the original Nightwalkers series.

Forged is the fourth installment to The World of Nightwalker Series by Jacquelyn Frank. In this book, it chronicles Ahnvil, the gargoyle protector of Menes. I found this fourth book to showcase more emotions of vulnerability than the previous books because I found this story allowed the readers to really connect to the struggles of each of the characters. Ms. Frank was able to deliver such a beautiful yet sensual story that blended romance and paranormal perfectly. Being this was my first book that dealt with a gargoyles for a hero, I was definitely entranced with Ms. Frank ability to delve deeper and entice her readers into the Nightwalker world. Thank you Ms. Frank for another amazing adventure!! Can't wait for the next book.

The first couple of chapters were great! It was enough to draw me in, but then... I was bores OUT OF MY MIND right up until the 50% mark, then shit started to finally happen!! Soooo, then I was back to really liking this book.

My problem with about 40% of this book was the "back and forth" of his bleeding, her patching him up, him telling her how lusty he was, and then her telling him to back off, showers, eating & keeping warm in a snow storm. I just couldn't sit still. It took me DAYS to get through that, but then one night to finish the last 50%!!

Jacquelyn Frank is an amazing writer! She has fantasy filled with mythology & everything happens for a reason, falling into perfect place by the end.

I ended up really loving this book, but, sorry! It lost a star for the boring part. Maybe it was me feeling trapped in the cabin with nothing happening either...

My favorite part, where I perked up was when Ahnvil told the other gargoyle to get his hands off Kat... My attention was grabbed well before that, but I was stuck all night after that point!!

If you are a patient reader this is for you... Otherwise... read the beginning, skip 30% read from 40% on & it's totally great!! LOL!!

I received a free copy of this book for review via Netgalley.

I've read several of Jacquelyn Frank's books, most of them from the Nightwalker series, and I've loved them. I don't know what I was expecting this time around. A much as I as looking forward to this book, I ended up being disappointed in the end. I think most of the issue I had with the book was because of the characters. They came off as flat and uninteresting, and often whiney. Ahnvil was nothing but a horny brute, and Kat was just...there. I didn't get much from the characters at all. Everything else- the dialogue, the plot- was just lacking.
I'm hoping the next book in the series will be a lot better.

I loved this installment. I'm a big fan of gargoyles and so enjoyed Ahnvil. He was just the sweetest guy so worried about hurting little Katina Haynes. A rather sweet romance with the backdrop of Apep and his minions ruining the love nest. I loved seeing Jacob and Isabella too. It'll be interesting to see how the two factions of Nightwalkers merge and fight Apep and Odjit.

Katrina has always been what some call strange but the beaten and battered man she finds near her home gives a new definition to the word. With skin that hardens into stone, Katrina doesn't turn away the stranger in need and she has a feeling he is no mere man. Ahnvil is a Gargoyle and needs to get back home as quickly as possible after escaping his captors in order to heal, yet he is enjoying the attentions of the enticing little human he knows he needs to distance himself from. When Ahnvil has no choice but to bring her along, Katrina will help uncover a prophecy that will affect all creatures in the Nightwalker world.

Fighting his way out of his enemies' stronghold after being captured, Ahnvil happens upon Katrina's land and is soon under her care. Katrina has medical training but because of a medical condition, she has isolated herself and is all the help Ahnvil will be getting now that a snowstorm has hit. Ahnvil was created by an evil Bodywalker, the Templars, with dark magic as a slave and he fought for his freedom. Now he fights on the side of the good Bodywalkers, the Politics. He's a well established character that I've grown to quickly adore and ate up all tidbits that he reveals about his past. Katrina, well, I like her. I really do but I don't love her like Ahnvil. She may be too accepting too quickly with Ahnvil's change from skin to stone yet then again I actually appreciate it mostly because it kept the story going rather than being dragged down by her freak outs. I think what keeps me from crossing the threshold into fascination is that not a lot of information is given about her. There's enough to explain her situation and keep her from feeling like a complete stranger but I wanted more insight. More about her past and what drives her.

The romance happens quickly. I was on board with that because it felt right for their situation. I just wish Ahnvil wasn't so hot and cold about it. There are good arguments for and against them getting together but he would paw at her one minute, then send her away the next. When they are together and truly into it, it was pure steamy magic. When a reason came up to pull away, I'm surprised Katrina didn't get whiplash. Like I said, there are good and bad reasons why they should keep their distance but after a while they are just poor excuses.

Something big happens that this Nightwalker fan went bananas over. Seriously, I had a ridiculous giggle each time Jacob and Bella had a scene. That's right, Jacob and Bella from Jacob, book one in the Nightwalkers series. It's tide into the Nightwalkers prophesy you learn about in this beginning of this series. In case I'm confusing anyone, Nightwalkers is a large world with 12 supernatural races and Jacquelyn Frank has been writing books about different species (Bodywalkers, Shadowdwellers, Demons, Vampires, and Lycanthropes). This series, The World of the Nighwalkers, is about the Bodywalkers (ancient Egyptian souls that fuse with that of a dying willing human) and a prophecy comes to light that says the Nighwalkers were divided into two groups and six of the Nightwalker races would not remember or even see the other six races until the curse is lifted. I think this is so awesome and love how everything is a branch on the same tree. I devour each crumb that has been given about the prophecy and I'm one happy fan by the end. My absolute favorite section of this book and I can't wait to see where it leads next.

The God Apep is in waiting while he (uh, she?) is....I won't reveal why she (uh, he?) is in hiding in case you haven't read the previous installment but this time around the story is focused on the prophesy and Katrina and Ahnvil. An improvement over the last book, which is by far my least favorite of the series, Forged isn't perfect yet I was hooked with the quick pace, strong characters (some better than others), and of course, the prophecy! I think most PNR fans will find something to enjoy within these pages but it's the fans of the series that will get the most out of it.

OMG! I totally LOVED THIS!!!

** Sidebar: I am a serious... serious.... Nightwalker fan... Serious...so I am a bit judgmental on every single aspect of these Nightwalker books! You are forewarned...

On to the review:

Ok... Now the last book totally had me spinning on this series... I was getting so upset that they were not following the whole Nightwalker time frame, as these books are called the "World of Nightwalkers.." I was expecting a cross-over from this series to the last series, which is simply called "Nightwalkers"...

So FINALLY we get our crossover...and BOY...was it a huge crossover or what! My all time favorite Nightwalker couple, not only crossover in this book, but they actually have their own storyline of sorts.... I was on pins and needles... PINS AND NEEDLES.... Frank, this is how you keep so many fans!

I totally get books 1-3 now, because with the whole 12 Nightwalker storyline is so good, I am going pre-order, pre-order, pre-order!!!! YES!!!!

Now, about Ahnvil! OMG... He was my character to watch out for in the other books, because I knew his story would be great... Just like Adam in the first set of Nightwalker books... Ahnvil was a sweety... complete sweety... and his human, Katrina (Kat)... or (Katlass) was just perfect for Ahnvil. I could not find not one thing bad about this book! Not ONE!!!

Now if you have been following the Nightwalkers since Jacob, well get ready to be shocked! The crossover twist, will have you jumping up and down with glee... I was grinning from ear to ear the moment Sands did the (Jacob voice)... and yes you can tell right away it's Jacob talking... I mean who can do nearly 50 characters with all different voices, and keep the same voice for each character throughout two series... Well that will be Xe Sands... Also my FAVORITE narrator...

So you see... extremely judgmental here...but there you go... If you love the Nightwalkers, and have been totally frustrated with this series as it wasn't showing signs of crossover between the Nightwalker Series and the World of Nightwalkers...

Well it was all in Frank's plan I bet...because this book was freaking AWESOME! I feel so complete! I cannot wait until Gideon's son (child of space) comes into play...b/c you know he will... He never did in the Nightwalker Series...so he simply has to be the glue that wholes these two series together...

Another Sidebar: Remember how it all started... Bella and Jacob's daughter played a major role in the end Nightwalker series... She saved Adam... now remember the prophecy from the beginning... A child of space, playmate to the first child of time! Ok...we had the time... But now... after you read this book...you will know why I am so excited for a child of space!!! Just think about all the Nightwalkers so far in this series.... OMG! Super excited here!

Ok... No more sidebars... All nightwalker fans.... this book is a must... If you haven't discovered Nightwalkers.... or Xe Sands...well don't start here... Go back to the beginning... Jacob! They are all on Audible so sit back and enjoy!!!

Man it took all I had to read this book, not because it was bad but I was under serious time constraints with it being a library book that I didn't really start reading until a few days before it was due back! Having said all that, I overall liked it, loved me some Ahnvil, he was such a lusty devil and Scottish to boot, what more could a woman ask for!!!! I was not loving Katrina so much, I don't know what it is, but the last few books that I've read in PNR have had some seriously childish acting heroines, and Kat was no different. The language they use, their behavior, I expect at any moment for them to be described as pouting their lips or holding their breath and stomping their foot until they get their way. Again, when I think of Kat, this is what I feel about her. She wasn't a bad character, but still the age difference between her and Ahnvil seemed more pronounced since she acted the way she often did. Decent story about Kat and Ahnvil though, he really did tickle me with some of his antics. If you're a fan of J.Frank and her Nightwalker series you will enjoy how all her books in the Nightwalker world are starting to weave together as they prepare for the ultimate battle. A battle where ALL the Nightwalkers will be needed for the sake of everyone's lives. Jacob and Bella made an "appearance" in the book, so I am anticipating that in the next one we might be seeing Damien and Adam, whom I loved from their own books, along with the other original characters! I am still holding out hope in the next book that my sugar bear Kamenwati gets struck upside the head with a great love(preferably with a Phoenix by the name of Darla, just saying **wink**), I still think he is a great character and I want to know more about him, and I want to see him vindicated and in love....with a character named Darla...who's a Phoenix. LOL! Come on J. Frank, don't leave me hanging, hook a sista up!!!! Anyway, no more pleading, like I said if you are a fan of the series you will enjoy how its rolling out and wrapping up, if you aren't a fan but want to try it, DONT READ THIS BOOK FIRST, not even the series, go back to the beginning so you'll know who Jacob and Bella and Adam and Damien are!

Fluttering Thoughts:
Worldbuilding: The world of the Nightwalkers is rich in paranormal elements – bodywalkers, djynns, gargoyles (a personal favorite :D ) -, and starting with this novel we can guess future appearances of even more kinds of creatures (demons, druids, etc). Lots to look forward to!
Characters: Katrina was the kind of tiny but in charge woman who had to live with the stigma of being “different”, which made her strong yet vulnerable. I loved that vibe about her, and how caring she was about everyone – even the huge stranger she meets while walking her dog. I loled at some of her lines, loved her humor.
Ahnvil was awesome. I have a personal soft spot for gargoyles, and he was exactly the kind of intense, alpha yummy male to win my heart, lol, complete with adorable love-related awkwardness of doom. I just wanted to cuddle the lights out of him some times, and felt compelled to throttle him others.
They had explosive chemistry and very hot one on one, and watching them together was totally fun.
Plot: The romantic arc was awesomely blended with action, lots of tension going on, and even better – the promise of conflict to come. I can’t wait to find out how this whole loony-god-VS.-nightwalkers situation will go.
Writing: Third person narrative, his and her POV. Ahnvil had a very clear accent, something that made him both and at times worked against the story, pulling me out of it via some word or me obsessing over how it would be pronounced.
Curb Appeal: Awesome cover + hooking blurb + wanna-buy author name = impulsive buy material.

All in all, this was yet another awesome read and I enjoyed the hell out of it. If you’re into well developed paranormal worlds, diversity, hot chemistry & fun characters with authentic voices, give this baby a try.

Forged (The World of Nightwalkers #4) by Jacquelyn Frank Katrina Haynes finds an injured man near her remote home and nurses him back to health.

Three-hundred-and-fifty-two-year-old  Scottish Gargoyle, Ahnvil, is injured after escaping from the Templars. He awakens to an intriguing woman.  A storm is preventing him from getting home to his touchstone, which is needed to maintain his life.

Jacquelyn Frank did a great job with the characters.  I love that you could always tell when Ahnvil was speaking because of the Scottish dialect.  He was even a bit rough around the edges, which is appropriate for an old gargoyle.  I really like Ahnvil.  He has become one of my favorite Nightwalker characters.

Katrina is suffering from a rare disease that makes her feel self-conscious around others.  She has never felt like she fit in.  Having a medical background it is no wonder why she took Ahnvil in.  She is a good person with a warm heart.  I enjoyed the chemistry between the two characters.  They were definitely entertaining.

Forged has a great plot with some unexpected surprises.  Old characters make appearances, and new characters are introduced into the series; making the story more enriching.  I really enjoy The World of Nightwalkers.  It is a creative realm with lots of excitement.  Some interesting things happened in Forged that will affect future books in the series.  I look forward to reading what happens next.

Who new gargoyles could be so hot? Frank made me a believer in Forged.

Finding a half frozen man near her secluded home in the Washington Mountains, was the last thing Katrina Haynes expected. Nursing him back to health, Katrina quickly discovers Ahnvil (the man she rescued) is no ordinary man.

Ahnvil escaped torture only to find a new form of torture in a woman named Katrina. Her tender care and ability to accept his differences quickly creates a bond he can't deny. A bond that will place Kat, front and center for the evil that is rising.

I love The World of Nightwalkers Series. Forged was packed full of the characters I've come to love as well as giving us some real strong plot direction for the future installments in this series. We've watched the Bodywalkers, Djinn, and Night Angels find love...now it was the Gargoyles' turn.

But that isn't all the gargoyle brought to the table...The Nightwalkers and the World of the Nightwalkers are about to COLLIDE. OMG, I know - it is so freaking exciting! I was ready to break out in a happy dance. If you follow Frank's other series, you will know that a prophecy has said there were originally 12 Nightwalker species, but for some reason, they never meet...well, the prophecy is coming to a head, and I can't wait to see what happens next. One of my favorite things for an author to do is cross over between their series. Frank has been building this magnificent connection and reading Forged put me front and center!

I received this ARC copy of Forged from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication April 29, 2014.

Not up to par with the original 'Nightwalker' series. Revision. I have had the chance to read all the books that came just before this one. And following it all the way through to this one makes more sense and allows for more cohesion to take place. The depth at all that has been shown in this book makes more sense in context to the other series and the previous books in this series. LOVE . . . had to change my rating. Now I have the bigger picture.

Frank's has continued the Nightwalkers series into another direction (The World of Nightwalkers). This is the first of the new series that I have read and I feel like something is missing. Good thing is you would not need to go back to the original series to be in pace with were the new series picks up. There is enough summary and recap of the original to carry on from here.

This is my first romance involving a Gargoyle, which lite my fire and the fact that his is Scottish seal the deal, but not the victory. Ahnvil, the Gargoyle, is the protector of his Nightwalker and Katrina (Kat) Haynes is the lady that comes to his rescue. With her introduction into a world she had no knowledge of, the two of them form a bond/connection that leads to, well duhhhhhhhhh, romance.

Franks' need to step up her game to put this one on par with the original 'Nightwalker' series.

Thanks, NetGalley.

REVIEW:
I enjoyed the latest installment of the Nightwalker series, a world filled with all sorts of supernatural creatures with very human like emotions and desires. Ahnvil is all alpha and I loved the way he had to bend to the will of a strong woman, Kat, who keeps her strength despite her own vulnerabilities. I only wish she had given in to her desires sooner rather than dragging things along, that became a little tedious. The back story flowed easily with the romance and had enough danger to keep you wondering what would happen next. Through all the struggles, Ms. Frank cleverly brought the two Nightwalker worlds together and I look forward to seeing how she will blend it all together for the big battle to come.

Even in the snow, bruised, almost dead Ahnvil still can find the time to be sarcastic, "oh," he said, his chiseled lips turning into a wry smile, "the dog that was just merrily licking my face?" I mean he is a man and well you know how horny men can be after a traumatic experience, "he growled and gave her a shake. "Offer me bed one more time, wench, and I'll be taking you with me." Kat the woman knows how to work wonders, especially when it comes to calming Ahnvil down, "the men watched with no little awe as this tiny mortal woman calmed her big beast of a Gargoyle." And for a tiny little woman she knows how to keep her big beast in line, "hush! I'm talking! You will listen to me or...or...or there will not be a spectacular blowjob in your future. Got it?" Yeah... she knows how to control her beast (winks). I really loved this book and I can't wait to see what's next in the series.

3.5 STARS?

This actually is a good series, not a GREAT-MIND-BLOWING series, but one that does entertain. I have been reading stories from this author for way too long, and I was never disappointed so far. I just felt like this book could have been better, the plot was too simple, nothing important going on. The romance was really good, but the rest was lacking.

Positive: it does give us a big spoiler on what's to come, as it starts a true connection with the Nightwalkers series .

Negative: It was a nice story, but one I'll probably, very soon, forget all about. This is not a bad series, I enjoy reading it and will definitely keep doing so... But never will I run to get a new release in my hands.

I found myself DNFing this book several times until I finally had to give it up. I love all things supernatural and was excited that I had a gargoyle book on my shelf.

Pros:

The author does extremely well in world building a unique supernatural world and spin on supernatural races. I am so about the mixture of Egyptian magic and curses to everything Nightwalker and I wanted more. I didn't feel like I needed to have read the previous installments to get the feel of this world or to understand that there were returning characters from other books/series set in the same world.

Cons:

The spice...parts of it was immediately in your face and seemed somewhat forceful and at times I couldn't tell whether Ahnvil was a good or bad guy (well not bad bad but very (rhymes with rocky) brute and again pushy. The "I know you want it even when you tell me no" type.

And I wanted to enjoy Kat but I couldn't tell if her indecisiveness came from the situation vs it being her character flaw. At this point I was excited to even read about the dog Karma who was barely mentioned except for a few scenes at the beginning.

I usually don't leave reviews for books I don't finish because it's all personal preferences but I felt the need to for this book because the pushiness might be a trigger for some readers.

Yay. We finally get a crossover to the original six stories with the demons. I was hoping we’d get back to them.

Centuries after having escaped being a slave to Kamen, Ahnvil is now a valued gargoyle in the service of Menes. After being captured again, he barely escapes and ends up wounded and snowed-in during a blizzard with the human female who found him.

Kat has left the medical world where she worked as a nurse to hide out in a secluded mountain cabin. She has always been considered strange due to an unusual medical condition.

After seeing him interact in the previous books I thought Ahnvil would be aggressive but still more in control. Maybe it was just because he was wounded and running out of time to get home.

Kit’s personality was hard to understand. One moment she was very practical and organized, then the next she was confused and flighty and her helpful nature has her doing a lot of things without really thinking them through.

There were a lot of interesting moments in the story. I especially liked the necklace and the meaning behind the gargoyle’s names.

Fave scenes: Kat’s mother & the cell phone tower, Bella setting up Jacob for a vacation, closing the outside shutters, shopping at Walmart and Kat’s discoveries in jail.

When I requested this book thru Netgalley I thought it was the first in the series. Imagine my surprise when it turns out to be the fourth! So a lot of the issues I had with confusing characters and incomplete world-building are on me for starting a series in the middle. So I won't touch on those here, except to warn other readers to start at the beginning, of not only this series, but some of the other series in the Nightwalker World. I think that would have helped me a lot!

But there are some things I can say that are specific to this book. This is not my first foray into the Nightwalker World. I read Ecstasy earlier this year and was less than impressed. However, I enjoyed Forged much more and it has tempted me into maybe giving her other series another go.

Forged begins with our hero, a gargoyle named Ahnvil (yes, there is a BDB style 'yoonique name' thing going on but unlike Ward, there is a logic behind the silent 'h' that actually gets explained in the book! Well played, Frank, well played indeed) mortally wounded and quite literally on the doorstep of our heroine, Kat. Her big heart overrides her human sense of self-preservation and she half carries, half drags Ahnvil inside and nurses him back to health. We spend lots of chapters watching Kat nurse, Ahnvil resisting said nursing, and the two eventually playing a few rounds of naughty nurse and patient. I'm a little torn about this pacing. On the one hand it allowed the reader to watch their relationship grow more organically than the usual PNR-Insta-Love that drives so many of us crazy. However, the first quarter to third of the book is them snowed into her house while she changes his bandages. It kinda drags, you know?

One of my biggest complaints with Ecstasy (my review) was the weird relationship between the H/h. I did not feel their chemistry at all and the heroine was a doormat to the sexual desires of the "hero." In my opinion, Forged is so much better in this regard. In fact, I really liked the dynamic between Kat and Ahnvil. They were both insecure in their own little ways and it was almost a comedy of errors watching them both try to come to grips with their feelings for the other. I was a little grated that Kat's insecurities were mostly body issues which she brought up over and over again, especially during sex. We get it, you're petite and that makes you feel fragile. It's not like you have a third nipple, calm down.

Ahnvil has a Scottish accent. I'm not really sure why or how that fit in with the mythology, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth if you know what I mean...

Overall, the book felt kind of slow. Now, this might be because it falls in the middle of the series, but since this is PNR and not UF, there needed to be a better balance between the focus on the larger story arc and the featured couple of this book. And frankly, I just wanted more action! The dramatic scenes at the end were pretty anti-climactic. I was left thinking, this is it? While it was cool to have a heroine who didn't always need rescuing it would have been nice to see the our fav Gargoyle throw his weight around just a little bit more.

That gets me to my second point, which were some stylistic things I had a hard time with. For one, there was a LOT of telling over showing. The biggest example was how often the author brought up the inherent desire of Gargoyles to protect those they are loyal to. The reader hears over and over how protective Ahnvil is but with the exception of him freaking out when a male friend hugs Kat or his near constant refrain of "I woon let anyone hurt you lass" you don't really see this in action. There is actually very little danger or action in the book so the only way Frank can check off that key PNR box of "protective, alpha male" is by having numerous characters say or think to themselves "Ahnvil is very protective."

The other stylistic thing I struggled with was the constant switches in POV. The book is written in the third person, which is something I enjoy because I get the perspective of the H and the h. However, in Forged the POV would actually switch within the chapters and sometimes alternate between paragraphs. There were no formatting indications to clue the reader that now we were seeing through the eyes of Ahnvil instead of Kat. This could be especially confusing, particularly during the sex scenes. In one paragraph the reader is withstanding another bout of Kat's self-doubt about her lack of curves and then the very next paragraph begins with a description of her "delicious and ample assets." It took me a second to realize that this was Ahnvil viewing Kat and not Kat having a bizarre moment of split-personalities.

The copy I read was an uncorrected proof so it is entirely possible that these issues will not exist in the final book. And truthfully, the foundation of this book is really solid. Kat and Ahnvil are truly adorable together and their dialogue is cute and often kinda funny. I especially like Ahnvil (what woman wouldn't!) but Kat is one of the better PNR heroines. Together they actually rank pretty high in my list of fav PNR couples. There is something about their relationship that just feels different than the usual. Maybe it's Kat's tenacity (which doesn't come off as bitchiness, thank god) or the fact that Ahnvil is so clueless about how to come to grip with his feelings. Either way, I would pick up the next in this series just to see if they make a cameo appearance!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher thru NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Katrina (Kat) Haynes and her dog Karma are walking in the woods when she sees the body of a man. Going to him, she sees he has suffered grievous wounds. She gets him to her cabin where she provides medical help and sews up the wound in his side. She notices his skin ripples from skin to stone and he tells her he is a gargoyle named Ahnvil. He tells her about Nightwalkers and she is fascinated to learn of a world she never even knew existed. But that world has evil in it as they learn when they arrive in New Mexico and are lambasted with fireballs. Kat wonders what she has got herself into but she is determined to help Ahnvil.

The fall of a giant

Not her best work. Seems like she's started to become a theme writer in this stage of her career. Kinda frustrated tho. She started out strong and soon after this series is when she plunged. She let it all get to her head with ~ the money ~ the Con she helped found ~ the notoriety ~ the volunteer plastic surgeries ~ the move including the house the car the fake groupies ~ alienating her long time fans ~ just going over board. Her writing was strong and she had a solid foundation until she lost sight of the real goals.

Another great addition to the series. It was interesting to find out more about the gargoyles and their creation. I really liked the Hanvil, though he was a bit overbearing when it cam to Kat. Their budding love story was cute and I liked how Kat ended up being stronger than she appeared.

What REALLY made me happy was seeing Bella and Jacob again. I miss them so damn much!

Anyhoo...

I devoured this book as well and am anxious to see how this series will end!

I don't usually read this genre, but bought my sisters books & she had most this series. This series wasn't as good as some of her others that I have read, AND I prefer books in print, so UNFORTUNATLY I don't know how the series actually ends because the last book is NOT in print!!! AND I didn't care to by an E-BOOK copy of it.

Oh my gosh! This book was fantastic! So many twists and turns. There is a lot of suspense going on within this book and now there are many other changes coming in the last book. I hope that the last book is just as good!

I recently discovered Jacquelyn Frank’s Nightwalker series and went on a binge. Now I’m finishing up the World of Nightwalkers. I usually have a hard time choosing a favorite character but Forged made it easy. I absolutely adore Ahnvil. He is fierce and loyal.

i picked this one up because the heroine nursing the hero back to health is a major catnip trope for me. however, this book was boring af. The characters felt really one dimensional and the plot was very slow in places.

This one ended rather abruptly... No epilogue or anything, but it kept my attention better than the others. Time to move on to the next!
