For English language learners and teachers, it is in our best interest to know the most commonly used words to accelerate learning.
By studying the most commonly used words first, it will shorten the time it takes to master the new language.
Of course, a language is not learned by knowing single words, but an intelligent English teacher will be able to construct the first sentences with the initial words on the list, and then gradually add words in descending order of frequency of use.
LEVELS
1. The first 37 words in this list make up 75% of the spoken English language. We continue...
2. First 62 words - 80% of spoken English language
3. First 419 words - 95% of the spoken English language
4. First 902 words - 98% of English spoken English language
5. First 1416 words - 99% of the English spoken English
6. First 5000 words - 99.98% of spoken English.
(If you know the first 900 words, you can say that you already know the English language).
This study was carried out with the analysis of more than 3.4 million words extracted from American conversations by the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA).
