1.5 stars ( + .5 a star for Althea)
WARNING: Spoilers below as I typed them as I was reading
There are too many discrepancies and holes in the storyline.. Churning out a new series is bad enough (when there are multiple series still partially finished).. but if a new series has to happen, at least do some basic research and keep the facts straight.
1. The whole 'Beloved' is over done.
2. The story revolves around Greek Mythology and the main characters have Greek birth names. This makes sense for Yannis, as Syracuse at the time of his probable 'birth' was founded and held by the Corinthians..but it was eventually taken over by the Roman Empire. Doesn't make sense for Nikos to have a Greek name, seeing as in modern time Sicily is part of Italy.
3. The Greek God who rides his chariot across the night sky to bring the daylight is Helios NOT Apollo..
4. It's strange how their communication goes from minimal understanding because of Nikos limited knowledge of Ancient Greek, to plenty of chit chat, including modern phrases, as the story progresses. (Way before it's noted that Nickos bought a language program for Yannis to learn)
5. A child of 10 from a wealthy family would not be left for the family housekeeper to raise
6. Italy uses the Metric System, so this would not have been said by the MC "the longest projectile shot recorded to date is over 2,707 yards long.”
7. 2,480+ years is way more than 'several centuries'
8. Nikos has to explain what a microwave is and they watch it heat his coffee,, then further down the page Yannis is thinking of all the wondrous things Nikos has shown him previously.. one of the items was microwave popcorn.. So why all the ohhh what is this device?! I haven't seen it before with regards to the coffee!
9. "As much as I don’t like having all of my antiquates in one place" Definition of 'antiquate'
1. to make obsolete or old-fashioned
2. to give an old or antique appearance to
The author probably means antiquities, artifacts or antiquarian books. With the money Nikos has spent on his collection, 'antiquates' would be a joke.
