Where is your attention right now? With awareness the world is born, again and again, in each moment. A poem is waiting to be written, a song is aching to be sung; these are the fruit of intuition and poetic perception interfacing with reality. In this light Beauty may be understood as that which appears when we die psychologically to the past, and one encounters the world anew here-and-now; for such a person every moment, every perception, evokes surprise, freshness, spontaneity, even love. Join the poets here in celebrating--a word which means to frequent--countless firsts: first date, first kiss, first frost, first steps, first spring day. By beginning anew and reclaiming innocence, you may find your relation to the world forever changed. . . and changing.
Robert Epstein is a senior research psychologist at the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology in California. He is the author of 15 books, and the former editor-in-chief of Psychology Today.
This book is a delight, and motivates us to be grateful for who we are and what we have. After reading it, we strive to improve and live each day more hopefully. This is a classic, as all anthologies edited by Epstein. The range of poetry and poets is substantial, and we never tire of re-reading the book for inspiration.
