The sequel to the award-winning Weapon of Flesh, Weapon of Blood continues the story of Lad, a man crafted of magic and flesh to be the most lethal assassin the world has ever known. A weapon becomes a person. The Grandfather is dead, and Lad is free to live his life as he chooses...as long as he chooses the Assassins Guild, of course. Lad's job is to protect Master Hunter Mya, a difficult proposition with a guild war brewing and death waiting around every corner. Envious rivals plot to eliminate Mya, even as the Assassins Guild Grandmaster seeks to promote her. Lad's solace is his loving family. But the blessings of love and friendship vie with the despair of fear and doubt. And so much gained means that much more to lose. Suspicion and betrayal abound as the Assassins Guild factions strive for supremacy. Even Mya harbors secrets so deep that she will kill to prevent them from being revealed. Lad does not know who to trust, but that is not the worst of it. For, unbeknownst to Lad, he is no longer the only weapon of flesh...
From the sea to the stars, Chris A. Jackson’s stories take you to the far reaches of the imagination. Raised on the back deck of a fishing boat and trained as a marine biologist, he became sidetracked by a career in biomedical research, but regained his heart and soul in 2009 when he and his wife Anne left the dock aboard the 45-foot sailboat Mr Mac to cruise the Caribbean and write fulltime. With his nautical background, writing sea stories seemed inevitable for Chris. His acclaimed Scimitar Seas nautical fantasies won three consecutive Gold Medals in the ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Awards. His Pathfinders Tales from Paizo Publishing combine high-seas combat and romance set in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Not to be outdone, Privateer Press released Blood & Iron, a swashbuckling novella set in the Iron Kingdoms. Chris’ repertoire also includes the award-winning and Kindle best-selling Weapon of Flesh Series, the contemporary urban fantasy Dragon Dreams, as well as additional fantasy novels, the humorous sci fi Cheese Runners trilogy of novellas, and numerous short stories. 5 years has passed since Lad killed the Grandfather.(From the title i thought there'll be some blood magic involved. lol) Lad was now married to Wiggen (which i didn't like) and has a daughter named Lissa (which i didn't like more). Lad protects Mya and in return Mya keeps the thugs from bothering his family's inn and not telling the authority he's still alive. things were working just fine between them but not very with the other masters of the assassin's guild. and Mya keeps secrets from Lad and Lad starts deceiving and keeping facts from Mya and they start suspecting one another and BOOM! things start spiraling down.
I'm not so fond of this kinda sequel, where years has passed. i mean, 1 or 2 yrs is fine for me but 5? not so much. 5 years is a long enough period of time for two individuals to get close and yet Lad and Mya acted like only months has passed. i was hoping there had been a lil more trust between them and more friendliness too. yet they were all business when they talk. I was also surprised by how cold Lad could be. he talks about love and family and brothers, fathers, sisters, wives, friends and yet he's really good in saying hurtful things. especially towards Mya.
I loved how Mya started liking Lad-loving him even. She learned to love someone despite the mental and physical abused she has suffered. and Lad harshly crushed it, stomped on it. It's probably obvious i'm a fan of Mya. if i only think bout how the book ended, i'd give this 1 start. i mean, come on, after everything she'd been through, after everything she'd done for Lad, that's it!?
Love getting to delve more into Mya’s character in this book and her dilemma between what she wants, and what she needs to keep her safe! I really enjoy the magic system in this book, and the infighting between the masters adds a lot of twists and turns to follow and keep things interesting! Beautifully written, and equally heart wrenching. Can’t wait to continue to the last book of this trilogy! Much to think about as far as who you can extend your loyalty to, who you think you know, and what happens when the people you think have your back.. don’t.
Solid sequel to a amazing first book..it's been 5 years since the first book took place - and Lad is still as bad ass as ever in a fight. Reminds me a bit of Hearne from David Dalglish's books, boy trained to be the perfect weapon.
I love reading other characters chapters - and seeing their reaction to the Weapon made of Flesh lol. There's one scene near the end - where the Captain of the Guard comes across an area where there was a skirmish the chapter before...even the Thieves seem surprised by the chaos a Weapon of Flesh/Blood can cause.
This was a good read, will be interesting to see where Lad goes from here in the next book. And it looks like the Noble's of the City are finally getting involved...we'll see.
I was at a disadvantage in that I could not recall much of what all happened in the previous novel "weapon of flesh" But still a very enjoyable story and the aspects involving the characters is a unique one and keeps the story moving, like the concept all around enjoyable book . I will more than likely go back and re-read the first if not this one as well when the third and final in series is released. /// I also went back and raised a star on the first novel and it more than deserves recognition for a new and diff' look at magic and how it can be used.
I really great sequel which follows nicely from the first book despite the time skip. Mya really developed as a character in this book to the point that wiggan felt like a secondary one, which I suppose lessend the impact of the events at the end of the book. Lad was an excellent character again who works as a bodyguard almost as well as he does an assassin, although I do miss his ability to heal it did create great opportunities through the book. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

If it is at all possible Jackson improved on the on the first book. It was a thrilling and fascinating read and the different POVs were well done. I highly recommend to read the series!
