Very good book. Caleb is new to the Seven Poplars community. He moved there with his daughter for a fresh start after lsoing his wife in a fire that also scarred him. As a single father of a little girl, things are pretty rough for him. Amelia is very mischievous and more than a little stubborn. Several young women have attempted to work as housekeepers and childcare but haven't lasted long. Rebecca's family volunteers her to make the attempt. It isn't long before she has Amelia straightened out and has lightened Caleb's load also. Rebecca would like to be more than the housekeeper, but she doesn't know if Caleb will ever see her that way.

Rebecca is the second youngest of all her sisters and one of the most cheerful. She has noticed Caleb ever since he and his daughter moved there. She finds him very attractive, in spite of the scars left by the fire. When two of her friends complain about how impossible he had been to work for she refuses to pass judgment on him. Her mother volunteers her to work for Caleb as his housekeeper and to care for his daughter. I liked the way that she steps right in on that first morning when she walks in on his disastrous morning. She has an amazing amount of patience with little Amelia and soon has her behaving very well. Rebecca also enjoys bringing order to Caleb's house and his life. I loved seeing the way that her feelings for him started to grow past that of housekeeper, but she was hesitant to put herself forward. I really liked seeing the way that she helped him see things about their community that he wouldn't have know being so new to the area. Just as she thought things might be progressing for them another woman gets in the way and she fears it might be too late. I liked seeing some of the ways that Rebecca brought light and laughter to Caleb's life, and also how she was able to assist him in his work. It was great seeing some of the things she did for him and with him. It was so hard seeing her face the thought of giving him up.

Caleb felt a bit out of his depth in his new community. He didn't expect to be called to be a preacher so soon, but is doing his best. He knows that his daughter is making his life even more of a challenge, but he hasn't been able to find help that would stay. His first impression of Rebecca is that she's very young and lighthearted. He isn't sure she can handle the job at his house but gives her a chance. He is amazed by how quickly she brings order to his home. I did like the way he was such a good father even though he often felt overwhelmed. As a single man and preacher he had to be very careful not to put Rebecca in an awkward position. I liked the way that he found himself thinking about what a future with her would be like, but didn't think she would be interested in someone older and scarred. Then he ended up getting almost bullied into considering someone else as a wife, making him wonder just what he should be doing. I liked Caleb's outlook on his job as a church leader and how much thought he put into his decisions. I thought the way that he listened to what Rebecca had to tell him about the teenage boys was especially smart of him. He also came up with a unique form of punishment that was very well thought out. I got a bit frustrated with his wishy washy attitude when it came to his feelings for Rebecca and what was happening with Dorcas. He very nearly lost it all before he got very lucky.

Caleb is new to the community and the new preacher. His young daughter is a handful and she has already gotten a reputation of being hard to handle. Rebecca is volunteered by her family to help look after the girl and help with the housework. Rebecca soon finds herself falling for the new preacher but could she be too late?

I have enjoyed reading the books in this series. This book was fun to read.

What I liked: Rebecca was very likeable. Her interactions with Caleb made me laugh out loud a lot. The story was interesting and kept me turning the pages all the way to the end. The ending was maybe a little predictable but made me smile. I ready did not want the book to end.

What I did not like: There was not much I did not like other than the book was too short!

Overall this was a sweet book. Caleb was rough around the edges because he had lost his wife and felt responsible. As he gets to know Rebecca he started to soften up and enjoy life again. By the time Rebecca realizes she has feelings for Caleb he is already searching for a wife and fears she has missed her chance and I enjoyed how it all played out. Even though this is the 7th book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. If you enjoy Amish fiction and romance this is a great book to read!

This book is such an encouraging and enduring read that will have you turning pages until the end. I really enjoy Amish community based books and this one did not disappoint.

In this story we follow the characters on their journey through life while holding to their beliefs, their sense of family and believing in the power of love, faith and forgiveness.

The male lead is the community’s new preacher who is a widower and has his hands full with a young daughter that is struggling to learn the proper way to behave. Wanting to be of help, the Yoder’s volunteer their daughter Rebecca to help him at his home and tend for the child.

Rebecca soon realizes that she is losing her heart to Caleb and is not sure how it can come about that they could build a life together and move into the future as a family.

All of the characters are very real and relatable. They are down to earth and you will smile and laugh right along with them throughout the story. By the end, everything will be how it should and you the reader are left with the afterglow of enjoying a heartwarming story that is a perfect fit for the holiday season!

I received this book in exchange for my honest review which has been stated above.

My Thoughts On This Book

I really love this story, the plain life of the characters will warm your heart and draw themselves close to you. I thought Rebecca’s reaction stealing a glance at the new the preacher was adorable, and I was really hoping the two would get together from the beginning. Rebecca being in Caleb and his daughter’s life is just what they needed to help them heal from losing their wife and mother.

This is a wonderful. special book to read during the Holiday Season, and I really want to encourage you to pick up a copy and read it for a few hours of Christmas enjoyment! And if you don’t have time for Christmas reading, this book can be enjoyed any day of the year! This was my first book by Emma Miller, and I am happy to have a new author to watch for now! I really enjoyed this Amish read. The community is there for one another, and the help continues until things are better!
We have Rebecca with an attraction to the new Preacher, Caleb Wittner. He is a times rude to her, hiding his feelings, or trying to deal with them. He is new to the community and God has chosen him to be the new Preacher. Wow, what a new life he has walked into. He lost his wife in a fire, where he carries the burden of not being able to save her. He was also was disfigured in the fire. Now he is living in a new community in a new state.
Love how the author showed that some people had problems with his looks, rather that looking at his heart. They also judged his young daughter who was struggling with the loss of her Mother. Where Rebecca and a few others helped her with praise and distraction, others thought corporal punishment was what was needed...ugh!
Wrap yourself in this quick, but good read. I loved it!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Published Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

Rebecca’s Christmas Gift by Emma Miller is another of book in her Hannah’s Daughter’s series.
Caleb Wittner is a widow and a father to Amelia who is sometimes a bit mischievous. Caleb has had quite a few ladies in their community try and help with tending to Amelia but she needs someone special to take her in hand.

Rebecca Yoder is a young lady that seems to be able to do just that. She’s full of life and seems to even turn Caleb’s surly manners to one that is at least one that is tolerable.

Can Caleb and Rebecca find a happy medium when it comes to Amelia? Will they be able to find happiness with each other?

I enjoyed this book just as much as I’ve enjoyed Emma’s other ones in this series. She has a way of writing that is so descriptive that you feel as if you are there with her characters.
NetGalley and the publishers allowed me to review this book for an honest opinion.

A Heart Warmer!

I have read many books by author Emma Miller. She did not let me down with this fantastic Christmas read. Her books are about God, Family, Love, Forgiveness, and Faith.

Sometimes we try to control our lives and the situations in our lives instead of letting go and letting God. This is exactly what happened in this story.

I am sure that you will love the main characters in this book as much as I did. Rebecca Yoder is a young lady full of life. Caleb Wittner is a widow that has a lot of issues from his past. His daughter Amelia stole my heart.

This is a delightful read that I am sure everyone will enjoy as much as I did!

Rebecca's Christmas Gift by Emma Miller is a very good book. I would recommend it. It takes place in a Amish community. A new preacher, Caleb, moves to the Amish community. He has a young daughter. She is healing from losing her mother in a fire. Caleb has a scar on one side of his face and on one hand from trying to save his wife in a house fire. Rebecca sees his pain. Rebecca babysits Amelia and helps her heal from her lose. Caleb is also healing. They find love.

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read many books on Amish life so some of the traditional words that were use where a little confusing to me, however I was easily able to figure them out. I didn't think that I would enjoy this book as much as did but was really good. I felt for the characters struggles and found that I couldn't put this book down!!

This was an enjoyable Amish book. I had not read any other stories from this series but had no trouble following along. I liked the way the relationship slowly grew between Rebecca and Caleb, but was frustrated, at times, with Caleb's sternness and some of the decisions he was making. This was an uplifting story.

Miller said she 'loves a beauty and the beast' story, but this one is actually more Jane Eyre. Scarred and brusque bachelor with a spoiled daughter falls for nanny/housekeeper much younger than he is... that's the theme. Pure Jane Eyre.

I wish I could say I liked it, because I love Jane Eyre-esque stories. But I didn't. At all.

First, Caleb (H) has another, Love Inspired themed "polite" scar. Meaning it's VERY chrischun, this scar. It doesn't affect his hearing, sight, facial expressions, doesn't touch his hairline or ear, doesn't disfigure him at all. In fact, it keeps itself tidily to just one side of his face, so you can imagine what he looked like before by looking at the opposite hemisphere. Isn't that nice of that scar?! This is something like my THIRTY-FIFTH polite Chrischun, Love Inspired scar, and I. Hate. Them. ALL. They're cheats, and they're the sign of bad, BAD writing.

He does have a 'scarred hand', but Miller never tells us what ANY of his scars look like (descriptive writing is actually a thing, people...), what impediments they cause, which... by her writing, it seems none. In fact, we're told since his hand was damaged, he's FAR better at carving intricate designs in his carpentry projects. WHAT IS THAT?!!?

Second, the scene opens with Rebecca climbing up the framing of Caleb's barn to rescue a kitten in the dark after day one of a barn raising. 1) Caleb doesn't have cats, 2) how would a kitten scale a BARN during a barn raising, 3) nobody noticed this kitten... how? So she walks the beams, gets the kitten, turns around and Caleb is there, and he PICKS HER UP AND CARRIES HER ACROSS THE BEAMS TO THE LADDER . I'm not kidding.

There... it's... I have no words for the stupidity of this whole scenario.

Here's the next fun thing: Caleb has been in the Seven Poplars community for THREE WEEKS. That's it. During that time, Preacher Perry had a heart attack, and they need a new preacher. Now according to my research, preachers are chosen by the congregation nominating potential candidates, and then a slip of paper is put in a hymnal and each nominee is given a hymnal, randomly mixed up. Whoever gets the slip of paper is God's chosen preacher... yes?

NOBODY WOULD NOMINATE SOMEONE THEY DON'T KNOW!!!

Caleb's only been in town three weeks, he would never be a nominee... and yet Miller has him not only nominated, but choosing the slip of paper, and less than a month into his move to town, he's the new spiritual leader of the community?!?!? HOW ABOUT NO!!!

Miller doesn't know her German, either. "You climbed up my barn for a katzen?" The '-en' on any word makes it plural, my friends.

Then we're told that - while apparently it's NOT irresponsible for him to scale the frame of a barn and CARRY a woman across the beams while his child is inside the house sleeping, it *IS* irresponsible for him to walk her 300ft down the road to her house while his child is sleeping.

What. EVER. That makes about as much sense as *ALL* of the rest of this, so far.

Miller abuses Dorcas badly in this book, which to me is inexcusable. She makes her needy one moment, then fickle and dismissive the next. She also makes her ridiculous - when Dorcas' dad gets kicked by a cow, apparently Dorcas drives a buggy all the way to Rebecca's house, climbs down, and then... stands in one place and screams bloody murder to draw attention, instead of running up the porch steps and getting help?! WHAT IS THAT?!!? The woman is 28 years old, for the love of Mike!!! GAHHHH!!

Luckily, halfway thru this book I was putting away the previous episodes, and found the 'Matchmaker' series... and suddenly realized that this series doesn't stand-alone. It has ANOTHER five books about Seven Poplars, too... and I've read Dorcas' story, before. ((Thank GOODNESS her character is redeemed.))

But no to this one. It's badly done, and drove me CR-azy.

Love the Amish books. There is a little romance they are never filthy or raunchy. I mean even teens can read the with parents not have to worry about what their kids are reading.

In this book Rebecca Yoder is kinda elected to tend to the new preachers house and young daughter whom people say is a spoiled brat. Caleb is the preachers name. His wife died in a house fire. Caleb got his daughter out but could not save his wife. Caleb was really burned bad one side of his face and the and on that same side of his body were both burn and he ad scars. Rebecca did not know wen UT her feelings were growing for Caleb. And Caleb is confused about how he feels about Rebecca because for one she is beautiful and surely no one that beautiful could ever made him with his face all scarred up.
Then comes Rebecca's aunt who want her daughter Dorcus and she was pushing hard for the preacher to marry her daughter. She invites him over 2 days a week for dinner. Begins telling everyone Caleb and Dorcus are dating.
What will happen ? Rebecca wants her cousin Dorcus to be happy and is trying to think if it is God's plan for Caleb and her cousin to wed she will have to accept it.
If you want to know what happens read this book.

This is a good book. Miller manages to capture the love and warmth that comes from being part of a large family. The sisters are all part of each other's lives, which adds to the plot. Caleb was well written. His aloofness and bluntness were believable. Rebecca, on the other hand, was too perfect. Surely good Amish woman will have shortcomings as well! I also wish that Amelia was given more attention as opposed to using her solely for plot progression. All in all, it is an enjoyable but shallow read.

Need a good book to curl up with?

I enjoyed this book about Rebecca Yoder, an Amish woman whom finds herself taking care of the mischievous Amelia, the new preacher’s young daughter.
Caleb Whittier has moved to this new district with his daughter after loosing his wife and unborn child to a house fire.
Rebecca quickly comes to care for Amelia and for Caleb but Caleb has begun to “court” Rebecca’s cousin Dorcus in hopes to find a mother for Amelia.
What happens when Caleb realizes Rebecca is not quit as young and carefree as he first thought she was?

This is a good, safe read about an Amish family and their friends. It is one of a series of books but can be read by itself without being confusing. I liked the main character who was patient, kind, and loyal. The ending was a little hurried, but there was some foreshadowing to prepare for it.

I had read Jodi Piccoult’s Plain Truth right before this more light hearted Christmas Amish romance novel so I went from heavy weight “baby murder” to light weight Christmas romance all while learning a bit more about Amish lifestyle and religious beliefs. This was well written and much enjoyed.

Rebecca's Christmas Gift by Emma Miller was a very enjoyable book for me. I found myself getting lost in this sweet Amish romance that I read quickly in a couple hours on a blustery Saturday afternoon. I can't think of a better way to spend a bleary, cold day!

The book introduces us to Caleb Wittner who has just moved to Seven Poplars Delaware after the death of his wife in a devastating fire. He too suffered burns to part of his face and hands, which has left him disfigured. He is now a widowed father who is struggling to raise his mischievous 4 year old daughter Amelia. He has also just been chosen as the new preacher for the Amish community of Seven Poplars. And, due to all the heartbreak that he has been dealt, Caleb is perceived by many of the young girls who have taken care of his daughter and household to be a gruff individual, who doesn't smile and takes everything serious.

Rebecca Yoder is a twenty-something Amish girl whose family volunteers her to watch after Caleb's daughter and household when he begins having trouble finding help. And while the whole situation is not always smooth, Rebecca finds herself becoming attached to Caleb and Amelia. But, will Caleb be able to move past all the hurt in his heart to find new love as well?

Although the story is a bit predictable, it really doesn't matter for those of us who love a happily ever after type story. The story kept me interested the whole time, the writing was descriptive and pertinent, and I found that I wanted to keep following along with the story of Caleb and Rebecca - I didn't want the book to end.

I also discovered that this book was a part of a series called Hannah's Daughters, so I will definitely not only be looking for the other books in the series, but also for any other books by this author.

I received this e-book from NetGalley in return for my honest review , and I would like to thank the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review it.

SUMMARY: During the Christmas season, Rebecca Yoder agrees to help new preacher Caleb Wittner with his mischievous daughter. Amelia's turned the community of Seven Poplars upside down. Only Rebecca can see the pain hidden beneath the little girl's antics—and her father's brusque manner. After losing his wife in a fire, Caleb's physical scars may be healing, but his emotions have not. Yet Rebecca's sweet manner soon has him smiling and laughing with his daughter—and his pretty housekeeper. Soon Caleb must decide whether to invite Rebecca into his life—or lose her forever.

REVIEW: I have read so many Amish novels that I have come to find they soon begin to feel very formulaic. I totally enjoyed this one as it was quite different from the usual themes. This book is a very encouraging read as Caleb finds his way back to life after the death of his wife and Rebecca finds her way to the love God wants her to have. Rebecca is lively, fun, and energetic in contrast to Caleb's dour, occasionally rude, gloomy outlook except with his adorable daughter Amelia. Amelia becomes the link between them; and, in turn, changes as well. Excellent book to curl up with during the Christmas season.

Hannah's daughter Rebecca has her work cut out for her...

Everyone else who has tried to help Caleb Wittner has quit, saying he is impossible to please. He has been called boring, rude and harsh. And his daughter has been described as spoiled and hard to manage. Why would Rebecca want to get involved...

The author does a superb job showing Rebecca's reasons for hesitating... on top of the many complaints, Caleb has just been chosen to be one of the preachers - a job that will last all his lifetime.

Well, she doesn't want to get involved. But she does offer to help out as housekeeper and babysitter. I won't say anything else, except to encourage you to read the book!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about Hannah and her daughters... and this story is a great continuation from the previous ones.

Ms. Miller does a great job with the characters... reading this series, I feel as if I have already met the family and am part of the community! I got so involved I was ready to give Rebecca advice as to what to do next!

Again, the author moves into the future at the end of the book to show how well everything turns out.

This is the 3rd book of Hannah's Daughter that I have read. I enjoyed reading it. It is a sweet story of a Father raising his daughter by himself after his wife dies. Caleb not only just moved to a different state, but also became chosen as a preacher in his Amish Church.

The characters are enjoyable and I got caught up in their lives. I wanted things to workout with Rebecca.
Amelia is a cute little girl who sometimes is quiet a handful. I like how the community is helpful and caring. Not perfect but trying. This is a character and relationship driven story.

The setting is Seven Poplars, Kent County, Delaware in Autumn in a Amish community.
A very entertaining and uplifting clean story.
I would love to have read the whole series of Hannah's Daughters. I will be on the lookout for more stories by Emma Miller.

I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.

I'd been waiting for Rebecca's story & was not disappointed. Rebecca becomes the housekeeper/nanny for new Amish preacher Caleb Wittner, a widower new to town with a 4-year-old daughter, Amelia. As Caleb adjusts to his new life & responsibilities, he realizes he needs a wife. He also believes Rebecca is too young & flighty to be a preacher's wife, so he sets his sights on cousin Dorcas...not knowing Rebecca has feelings for him.

More insights into Amish life, and found the Old Order selection of preachers interesting. Ms Miller's story was one I couldn't put down. Wonder where she'll take us next?! :)

Such a cute story especially around Christmas. A wonderful show of how looks aren't everything and you can find you thinks you didn't know you were looking for in the oddest of places and where you don't expect them to show up. It's well written and pretty easy to keep track of characters and the plot. It's very simple and doesn't have any crazy events so perfect to read anywhere.

The new preacher in town is a widower with a young girl. He has problem keeping someone to help watch her during the day. Rebecca comes to take care of her and his daughter and her gets along good. She starts to like him but he is not ready to date yet and he doesn't always agreed with some things she does when taking care of his daughter. Her aunt wants her cousin Dorcas to marry him but Dorcas doesn't really want to but Rebecca won't interfere. Of course, all works all in the end and recommend this book.
