I just finished reading Marathon. It is written by Genie Davis. It's about a private investigator who loses her biggest client due to supposedly mishandling the case. While she's worried about how she's going to earn money, a psychic comes to her for help on murder visions she has. The psychic is killed shortly after the investigation starts. It's made to look like a suicide. So the private investigator, Lynn, investigates further to prove that she was killed.

I loved this book very much. It was witty and funny. It was also edgy and dramatic. It kind of reminded me of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The only difference is Lynn is a private investigator who has had experience with law enforcement before going into private investigation. I think it would be really awesome if this book was turned into a series.

I didn't really have any problems with this book. I was hooked from the first page. The only problem I had was there was a slight inconsistency between the years of a woman's disappearance. I may have misread that though. I'm not really sure. Other than that, I didn't have any problems at all with it.

I recommend this book to anybody who loves mystery and suspense type novels. It is fully loaded with both. It's a definite must read for all mystery lovers. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to be able to read it.

I'd like to thank the author for the copy of this book, which I received in return for an honest review.
Lead character, Lynn, is a private investigator. She's a feisty, funny and likeable character and is backed up by a string of other characters. Each character is well written, interesting and memorable (even the criminals!) and the character interaction feels very real.
Lynn stumbles upon a case which the police are labeling a suicide. Lynn is not so sure, so decides to investigate further. What ensues is a guess who game to identify the killer from several characters. Lynn tries in vain to identify the killer, who leaves a few more bodies along the way.
This book is full of brilliant twists and turns and unexpected revelations. I love the story, this is not your average whodunit by any means - it is considered, intelligent writing with well written characters and a brilliant plot.
I'd especially recommend this to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers, but I'd urge readers of other genres to try this too.
I'll certainly be reading other books by this talented multi-published author.

This is a mystery-suspense-crime novel centered around the female private investigator Lynn Bryant. It is a captivating read with a strong female lead. The kind of story you start reading and have a hard time putting down. The kind of series that gets you hooked.
Good storytelling, suspenseful until the very end and beyond. Non-stop action that ends with questions left open. ... Book Review: Marathon By Genie Davis » Katarina Nolte

A Lynn Bryant Mystery. Lynn is a P.I. in Houston who takes on a nebulous case of a psychic, Karen Shaw, who believes she witnessed or foresaw a murder. Karen becomes an apparent suicide, but Lynn looks into the death a litte further and into Karen’s background against the objections of the dead woman’s boyfriend, as well as Frank, Lynn’s boyfriend from the Houston P. D.
Lynn goes to the site where Karen believes she saw a murder in the bushes in front of her house and the woman said “Don’t kill me”. There is no body, but Karen believes she saw a murder that happened somewhere. Of course, she did. Five Star 2013

Lynn is a tough Houston private investigator whose only weak spot is her former box, cop Frank. She's hired by Karen, a psychic, who keeps seeing a woman being murdered. When Karen dies--suicide, the police say--her boyfriend and Lynn agree that they're wrong. Lynn associates the death with a recent visit to Karen by two teen-aged girls looking for a psychic reading, especially when she finds out that one of the girls is from Marathon, the same west Texas town where Karen was born. This is rather noir for me, though the woo-woo is kept under control (how did Karen know about the murder?).
