Here are four reasons I, Niva, know Max is not for me no matter what my sweet delusional family thinks! 1. He pairs brown sweater vests with glasses like a nerdy engineer. 2. He likes boring dal rice. I'm obsessed with spicy tandoori chicken. 3. He is now (kind of) my boss at the gaming company where I work. And his first order of business? Fire the staff. 4. I actually maybe like this other guy I'm chatting with on the game boards 'for research' even though we've not met yet IRL. Then I'm forced to work with Max to launch our new game. I begin to see the hot, sweet introvert under the joyless, uptight clothes. In a moment of weakness, I ask him to be my fake date at my frenemy's wedding. And he agrees! Between the launch, fake dating, and the tension simmering between us, I uncover his heartbreaking secrets. But, this doesn't mean I'm falling for my nemesis. Okay? Because, sorry Max, you're just not my type.
You're Just Not My Type is a feel-good standalone romantic comedy with delicious desi food, gamertalk, a well-meaning interfering family, and angsty MCs who are total opposites with a guaranteed happy ever after.
Hi, there I’m USA Today Bestselling Romance Author Aarti V Raman. I write all shades and forms of romance or will in the future because I suffer from writing attention deficit disorder. I must tell all the stories! So, my romances range from romantic comedy, chick lit to romantic suspense and dark romance starring tortured billionaires and suffering military types! Before I turned to writing and telling these stories full-time, I was a teacher, business journalist and editor for close to fifteen years. So my heroines are career-minded, city-living, strong-willed hot messes who still have their lives together. I believe in writing what I know and I know me best so most of these heroines are Indian (South Asian women of color). I also believe in writing more of what I want so my heroes are indecently hot, filthy rich, fiendishly smart with secret hearts of gold. Thus, the angst and steam-meter are off the charts when stubborn force meets immovable object on the way to happy ever after. So does the banter and danger, because what’s love without a little bit of jeopardy, am I right? I’m a TEDx speaker and 24 of my romances have hit the Amazon Bestseller Charts so I can also proudly call myself an Amazon 100 International Bestselling Author. My chick lit dramedy “The Worst Daughter Ever” has been optioned for screen. My bestselling Millionaire Foes series is part of the Writers on the Moon Project, on a time capsule to go to the actual moon. Most notably, I’ve been absolutely privileged to be part of two fantastic for-charity anthologies, Stand for Ukraine and Dissent. I’m also known as Writer Gal. I live in Mumbai with my large and largely loveable extended family in a version of my three favorite words – Happy Ever After.
DNF at 73% But I'm still gonna add it to my read books coz I've tolerated 73 PERCENT of this pure torture duhh!!! + I'm lowkey v scared about my reading goal all thanks to the slump ik I'm entering because of the syndicater and this thing.
Everything in this book from plot to the characters can be described in three words - boring, bland and very very predictable (ik using *very very* makes it five but please keep that info to yourself ik it). This book was legit more bland than British food (and that's saying a lot considering the fact that they only put a pinch of black pepper no matter what the quantity of food is).
Also why the heck they were butchering my chicken tikka and daal chawal??! Like??
You can love both, I did (in Katherine's voice lmfao)
Okay I'm sorry my review sucks but do i care?💀 It's not like I excel at other things in life duh. (I love yapping absolute nonsense I'm sorry you've to bear w it)
Now byee till the next read and i really really hope it'll be great cuz I can't remember the last time I read a good book 😭😭😭.
3.75 rounded up. I am a sucker for a Pride and Prejudice retelling and this one did not disappoint. It had enough nods so I recognized the plot points from the Austen classic but included the fun twist of being set against the back drop of a Video Game launch.
Pros: the characters were likable and well-rounded. I loved the inclusive feel of diversity in race, ethnicity, and ability without it hitting you in the face. The sexy times were steamy but not overpowering (two major ones) which, as a lover of slow burn, I enjoy. The chemistry did build the characters. I also really enjoyed the look into Indian culture and the use of the language.
Why I didn’t give it 5 stars: Some of the reasons why the couple hated each other in the beginning and tried to keep away from each other were a little underdeveloped and their reactions to certain events seemed a bit over the top to me. Luckily the author didn’t linger too much in these moments. There were some backstory info drops that could have warranted some more page time to really get a feel for the motivations of the characters. Sometimes I had to scroll back and make sure I didn’t miss something since some reveals were just dropped in out of nowhere.
Overall, I recommend this book as a quick, fun steamy romance read. I think those familiar with gaming will especially get a level of enjoyment out of it.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
If you love a good enemies to lovers, office romance then this one’s for you!
YJNMT is an entertaining, Pride and Prejudice retelling with a sassy FMC and charming but kinda nerdy MMC who will have you laughing all the way to the end!
What I loved most about this book is that the FMC- Niva comes from an Indian family. There’s plenty of Indian references throughout the book and I loved the desi vibe. The MMC- Max on the other hand is witty, nerdy and kinda annoying at first but he’ll have you falling for him before you’re even halfway through the book!
What started as a potential arrange marriage setup by Niva’s typically desi parents, quickly became an awkward office romance when Max became Niva’s new boss. The silly fights, undeniable attraction and angst made the book super entertaining.
Things changed when Niva invited Max to be her fake date for her friends wedding and it made them both realise that the reason they hated eachother so much was because there was crazy amounts of attraction at both ends. I loved how they both let go and gave love another chance despite of their previous experiences.
The family drama, hilarious work friends and gaming world references were quite fun. I did however feel like the ending was a little abrupt and we needed a bit more closure (maybe an extended epilogue or something? I want to see Niva and her mom’s ‘I told you so’ interaction when she takes Max home as her boyfriend!)
Let's begin by congratulating Aarti on this project, I found it quite new and different from her usual writing style. It was fun, it has gaming, it has an emotional quotient, it has drama and it has Niva with a badass attitude and Max with a gentlemanly presence.
For me, it was Max, a man of word, gentle at heart, a dream partner, a king of the game zone, and a kid at heart. You will have every reason to love him and appreciate and at the same time, you have many reasons to grind your teeth at Niva's actions.
A fantabulous story with a desi touch that you will enjoy to the fullest. In a typical arranged marriage setup, two unknown people face each other for the first time where one is obedient, and the other giant mischievous. When the opposite attracts the sparks are expected. The one meeting where Niva tried her best to bully the prospective groom who later became her boss. Wow, what a coincidence and what a faith 😅😅😅.
Guys pick this up because this is a read you all need to laugh out loud and if you are a game nerd then you have all more reason to have this in your hands.
This book was such super freaking sweet! If you love a good enemies to lovers trope and romcom, definitely add it to your TBR list!
Niva’s mother wants (what she thinks) is best for her so she invites Max over for dinner. Niva, being the strong and independent woman she is, makes it a point that she doesn’t NEED a man to make her happy. Yet, she soon finds out that Max is actually her new boss! Here starts the love/hate of their relationship.
But there’s a chemistry between them that can’t be denied. Both Niva and Max feel it yet choose to push it aside because they know that they would never make a good couple.
If you love an office romance (video game/gamer career) and a super cute romcom with a Desi touch to it, this book is for you. Aarti has done such an awesome job and I look forward to reading any other work of hers!
YOU’RE JUST NOT MY TYPE was an interesting and educating read for me. It centers around two cultures with which I was previously unfamiliar but fairly quickly adjusted to and became comfortable reading. As the story unfolds it is easier to immerse yourself in Max and Niva’s world, enjoying their interactions and the slow build of their relationship. The chemistry is certainly there, and their tale is certainly a charming one that will slowly capture your heart and have you cheering in delight at the end. The side characters, serving as an appealing supporting cast, add depth and context to Max’s and Niva’s personalities, making this a thoroughly entertaining tale that you will enjoy.
You’re Just Not My Type by Aarti Raman is the story of Max and Niva. Niva works at a gaming company. Max was just hired to take over after her boss left…under unusual circumstances. But, he is ruthless…and wants to get her to leave.
This story had a refreshing tongue-in-cheek humor to it that had me chuckling frequently! That’s no easy task for me!! The characters were both coming from similar situations…sort of… and neither cared much for the other. But, slowwwwwwly things started shifting…changing… becoming something different…something new. A deliciously heat-filled read that kept my attention with he great story line and excellent writing!!! Loved it!!
This was a pretty good enemies-to-lovers office romance. I loved the main characters Niva and Max. I enjoy any book with good humor so the banter between the main couple was hilarious. Very well written and gives us a glimpse of Pride and Prejudice. Also, the gaming world lifestyle was something very new to me and I loved reading about it. The angst, chemistry and spice was good even though this was a slow burn. What I loved most about this book is that there’s plenty of Indian references throughout the book and I loved the desi vibe. A very good story with a desi touch that you will enjoy. Thank you to the author for the advanced copy of the book. Rating: 4 Spice: 3
First of all, thank you Aarti for giving me the opportunity to read your book before release day! I really appreciate it and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!☺️
This book made me laugh so much and I loved the enemies to lovers trope! For me, it was a very quick, easy read and I finished it in less than 24hrs😅🙈
I loved Max & Niva, their banter was great, the spice was great and following their story throughout the book was lush!💗
I highly recommend reading this book, it was a good read and I will be looking out for more by Aarti in the future🥰
What a well written glimpse into the desi and gamer lifestyle, which are completely different from me. The comedy is hilarious, the spicy plot is entertaining, and food sounds utterly delicious. This isn't just another romcom - these pages are meaningful, with depth in the characters.
It was something. Something you can't help yourself but to fall in love with them.
This is so cute, I enjoy every part of it. I have a fun time reading and can't help to finish one chapter to another. This is definitely my type of story! What a great read!
Pretty good enemies to lovers office romance. This was my first read by this author. She has a different writing style then what I am used to but I found the book a pretty good read. Characters were good. I did enjoy the cultural differences between characters.
This had some shocking parts in it, i am so happy they got their happy ending. And to see them go from somewhat enemies to lovers. I love anything like this. Definitely give this ago , it was a good easy read and can help get anyone out of a reading slump
No. Just no Her Indian mom ain't Indian dude. Who's desi mom says "I'm always proud of you" and "I trust you to make your own decisions" wtf. And the spice just ewwwwwww
You're Just Not My Tybe by Aarti V Raman is an entertaining romantic comedy. It's a cute story between Niva, the Indian American and Max, her boss. I enjoyed reading about their story. The author has beautifully merged fake dating, enemies to lovers and office Romance troop in her narration.
If you love a good enemies to lovers office romance with a dash of fake dating and one bed trope then this book is for you.
Niva's mother, like a typical Desi mom, sneakily invites Max over for dinner, aiming for them to meet. However, Niva isn't prepared for a relationship, leading to a less-than-impressive first impression that turns out to be quite hilarious. Max isn't exactly her usual type. To assert her viewpoint, she even kisses him, resulting in unexpected sparks.
Fate takes an intriguing twist when she discovers that her new boss at the office is none other than Max himself. While the attraction is undeniable, their relationship starts off on the wrong foot.
With a great mix of humor, tension, and genuine romance, this book is a treat. If you're curious to see how Niva and Max navigate their feelings and the challenges around them, give it a read. It's a love story that's hard to put down!
Their story kept me hooked, leaving me yearning for more of their journey. The Epilogue was a favorite, and the infusion of desi elements added a wonderful touch. I hope Marley gets a book.
Enemies to lovers/When the random guy your parents tried to set you up becomes your boss - Delicious sounding very promising romance tropes! This is exactly what the book was all about. Neat storyline, awesome characterization sprinkled with the right amount of steamy scenes. Turned out to be a super good romance to curl up with and do away with my long weekend!
