A very lame/cliché romance

Let me start by saying, I'm glad this book was offered as a freebie. This is the only reason I have bumped up my rating from a 1 star review to a 2 star. The characters never felt realistic. It starts with a girl wanting to know more about romance so her friends sets her up with this speed dating thing held at a bar. Well the owner of the bar sees her and sits with her get to know her. Things move fast after that. It was a horrible story of insta-love. The characters felt so "cardboard" like and nothing about them or their relationship felt genuine. I think my main deal breaker was that the hero constantly had women throwing themselves at him. It was non-stop. I don’t care how rich or gorgrous a man is, it was just too extreme and not feasible. Hell, even on their first date (of course he brings flowers, tells her immediately hes never felt this way about a woman, and of course she feels the same with him) he takes her to an Italian restaurant where he knows the owners. The waitress was an ex that he dated in high school and hooked up with a couple times in college. WTF. He admits from the get go that women throwing themselves at him is problem, one that he doesn’t like (another BS because before meeting the heroine it was mentioned he continually hooked up with the women in the bar that threw themselves at him).........so he takes her to a restaurant where his ex is the waitress and she flirts with him, and insults the heroine. Very classy. The odd thing was, the heroine didn’t seemed bothered by this behavior. It was just ridiculous. From beginning to end. And then, after suffering through this brutal read it ends on a cliffhanger???? Ummm no. You could not pay me to read the next book of this series. I'll be adding this writer to my "avoid" list.

I kept wondering how things would play out....as soon as it got to the point where I couldn't put it down, it ended!! WTH?!? Review to come with my tour post date 11/15.

**FULL REVIEW**

“I do want to be the one who does those things to you; I want that more that you know. I’m glad to hear that you aren’t easy. I think I already knew that, and that’s why I am drawn to you. I want to date you—just you—and for you to just date me. I haven’t been with anyone since I met you and really have no desire to. I just want to know: what makes you happy and sad, what turns you on, and what turns you off. I want you to be the one I talk to you about my day, and I want to hear about yours.”

Wow. Who would have thought a man; a former player, would want to share things like this with a woman! Aubrey Ryan is different. She is unlike anyone Alex Logan has ever met. She is quietly beautiful and shy. Being best friends with Julie, his marketing consultant, Aubrey has no idea what to make of Alex or his intentions…but she has an agenda all her own.

Aubrey wants to write a novel, a romance novel. Problem is, she has no idea what romance is. So, in the name of research, she sets out to find a man that could serve as her muse. A man that can show her that romance isn’t just for books; that it can happen in real life. What Aubrey didn’t count on were the feelings that developed for the one man whom she thought she could keep her heart guarded against.

“I’m so happy. I really am. I’m filled with such true emotions for you…It scares me.”

“I’m scared that this is too good to be true, that someone more beautiful and more exciting could come along and…that you’ll leave me.”
“My heart is breaking at the thought…Alex, when we first met, I wasn’t looking for love…”

So, there you have it. And it’s beautiful. It feels real. The guards are down, the insecurities are up and Aubrey is in deeper that she ever thought possible. Problem is, she doesn’t know that Alex is too…or is he? This could all be a game. She has to trust that the feelings are mutual. She has to trust that this is more than just chance…

I’d like to tell you that is all there is. That this was a classic story of boy meets girl, boy changes his ways, girl falls in love, and they live happily ever after…NO! The twist that comes into play is something I would have never guessed and it is not something I’ve ever read before (kudos for originality). I found that as I got deeper into the story, I couldn’t tear my eyes from the pages. I had to know what was going to happen…and then…and then…damn it, it ended! While it took some time for me to get into the story, I am so glad that what I thought was going to be a predictable romance turned into somewhat of a mystery to me. I’m completely intrigued and will definitely be reading the next book to find out what happens with Alex & Aubrey…talk about Chance! HA!

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

*4.5 Stars*

At home one night, Aubrey decides she wants more from her life. She has an idea to write a romance novel which would require her to have experience with more than one man. Aubrey enlists her best friend, Julie, for help and they decide she should go to a club and try speed dating. Aubrey ends up catching the attention of Alex Logan, owner of the club, who notices that she is different and the fun begins.

Julie is constantly pushing Aubrey in the right direction and letting her know she is beautiful. I laughed a lot with them, I cried and I really love their friendship.

“Your goal is to meet a guy, right not necessarily fall in love. You just want someone to make your panties a little damp.”

The relationship with Alex was to be for research but the chemistry and attraction they shared was instant. He is just so alpha, dreamy and swoon worthy.

“Look at me Aubrey, I’m glad I’m the only man who has touched you like this, I want my hand to be the only one feeling you like this, I want to be the only man kissing you like this, Can I be that man, Aubrey”? YUP DAMP PANTIES!!

They both gave each other a chance until a horrible misunderstanding happened that cannot be changed.

“I will always love you, you can put thousand miles and an ocean between us and I will still love you, you are my sole, I f**ked up, I won’t say goodbye to you. I want you back, I’ll show you the world through my eyes, please come back to me.”

Aubrey is a strong female character, she suffered a lot but she was determined not to break. I fell in love with Alex and Aubrey and was so happy watching their love that once the misunderstanding happened I could not believe it!! I was disappointed with the choice Alex made and what followed that choice. However, I love Aubrey’s character even more after it. Then I got to the end and had that WTF moment!! What I thought was about to happen didn’t and then it was the MOTHER HELL OF CLIFFHANGERS!!! It left me shell shocked and wanting more, but atlas I must wait for book 2. This book is definitely a must be read.

I am not one to judge a book by its cover but c’mon now, let’s be honest here…what a hot piece of man candy! This cover model (whose name is Erik Fellows – he does have a Facebook page and yes, I did ‘like’ him. Don’t judge) is spot on for Alex Logan, our male MC. I want to jump up and down for joy when the cover art/model matches what is inside the book and how we as readers might possibly imagine the character(s).

As far as the plot goes, it’s fun, new and fresh. It reminds me a little of Never Been Kissed and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Aubrey wants to write about love but she’s never experienced it before, so how can she write about it? How else better than to experiment in the dating realm? Those type of ideas usually end up going south and poor Aubrey failed to learn the first lesson of relationships is to have open communication.

Now, this isn’t your typical insta-love story. There are bumps and bruises along the way. Just as in any real relationship, our MC’s must navigate through the phases of getting to know one another. Then of course there is this pesky ‘research’ thing that Aubrey is doing…

This was an enjoyable, easy read. One where you will find yourself falling for these characters and wanting to go through this journey with them. I must also add that this is a debut novel. I would have not guessed that by the brilliant writing style. The flow and dialogue is that of a veteran author.

The supporting characters are great! The witty banter is comical. I have noticed that some romance/love stories lack that personal touch of humor. Ms. Schwehm did an impressive job here.

There is language, sex and the ever dreaded cliff hanger! But don’t worry, book 2 is about to be released and I am anxious to see where Ms. Schwehm takes us.

So I am reading this book, and I'm like please don't let this be like every other love story. Don't let it be every other story where boy meets girl, boy changes playboy lifestyle for girl. They fall in love and it's all unicorns and rainbows. Well, it starts off that way. But it's not all rainbows and unicorns. There are bumps along the way. Bumps known as Leah and Valerie. Really, Leah is the big problem. Gold digging, money grubbing, stuck up little... sorry. I got side tracked there for a minute. So.. back to the book. So Aubrey falls and falls hard for Alex. And Alex does the same. It's cute the things he does, he's very good to her. And for someone who needs to know romance because she wants to write about it, he's the perfect example. Everything is so perfect, then it happens. He finds her journal and chaos breaks lose. Everything changes. This is where the book changes. This is where I'm sitting here like what the hell just happened!?!?! She moves to Paris after her trauma and heart break. I don't mean it's just a minor heartbreak, it's a crater larger than the moon. Good god her world has changed in the blink of the eye. I did not see this shit coming. In essence, Paris is a clean slate for her. Her starting over and that is where she meets Chance. She tells him everything. They start this beautiful friendship which makes her doubt her love for Alex. They may be over, but a love like that doesn't die. Toward the end, I had an idea where the book was going.. you know, you just get that feeling. I kind of knew, but Aubrey didn't see it coming. To me, that was romance... To her, well, we don't know. We shall see in Book 2.

What a phenomenal debut!!!
I was completely sucked into this book, to the point that I didn’t want to put down my Kindle. There were laugh-out-loud moments and heartbreaking ones, too. I honestly felt like I was holding my breath throughout the whole story. The angst was amazing. There were scenes where I felt like I was at the edge of my seat and others where I wanted to hit someone… mainly, Leah.
“All I needed was to keep the faith and take a chance.”

In Unexpected Chance, we are lead through Aubrey’s journey of discovering her own love story. You see, she wanted to write a romance novel, yet had no clue what it really meant to be in love. What started off as research, turned into so much more. Enter Alex Logan. Prepare to swoon, ladies. This guy had me squirming and fanning myself. Phew. S0, so dreamy.
“I want to give you now, tomorrow, and always, Aubrey.”

“I’ll prove to you how much you mean to me and how much I love you. Just give me a chance. You need to give us a chance.”

Aubrey was a great heroine. I could totally see myself being friends with her. Hell, I saw a lot of myself in her. The banter she had with the other characters, especially Julie, was really funny.
“You just want someone to make your panties a little damp”-Julie
“Look, I don’t need my panties damp. Knowing me, I’ll have an anxiety attack and probably pee a little; that’ll make them damp”-Aubrey

Aubrey was also one of the strongest female characters I’ve read about. I can’t say ANYTHING as to WHY I think this without spoiling the plot for you, but trust me, she is an amazing girl. Some of the things that happened to her would easily break anyone!! Sure, Aubrey and Alex both had their moments where they pissed me off, but I truly loved them. Let’s just say, their story is one that will stay with me for a long time.
“He was part of my heart.”

The secondary characters in this book were just as incredible. I would SO love spin-offs!!!! Julie and Brett – such a SEXY couple. As for Mark… oh, Mark. I want him to get his HEA soooo badly. I feel that he totally deserves it. I honestly really enjoyed reading about them just as much as I did reading about Aubrey and Alex.

Overall, Unexpected Chance was fan-freaking-tastic!
It was a 5 Stars read for me all the way, until the end, when I decided it deserved one more star. Jaw, meet floor. *GASP* HOLY CRAPOLA! Yep. I was shocked. No, scratch that. I was blown away. It’s the mother of all CLIFFHANGERS but oh, so worth it.

After finishing the book, I was literally left speechless. All I could say was “ohmygod”. I swear, I must have replayed that ending in my head a thousand times. I finally gave up and started stalking the author. True story. She was very cool about it, though. Haha!! After my shameless fangirling, I just HAD to do a quick re-read of this book!!! Now you must understand, THAT hasn’t happened in a long time. Yes, I’ve re-read books, but never right after just finishing it for the first time! Mega props to the author!
The second time around, I focused on certain details and scenes. Let me just tell you, this book was brilliantly written. Everything made perfect sense! Once you read this book, you will understand what I mean. *wink* Oh, and that title???? HAAA! Such an awesome meaning behind it!
Seriously, I loved this book! Can’t seem to stress this enough!
I HIGHLY recommend it!!!! Go one-click it!!!
6 out of 5 Stars to Unexpected Chance!

5 heart-melting, swoon-worthy stars!!!

I enjoyed this book from start to finish.

Aubrey is a typical down to earth girl that wants to find her true love, but not before creating her own romantic masterpiece of a novel. You see Aubrey wants to write a romance novel, she's read so many in her adult life that she feels it's time to try it out on her own. (OMG, she sounds like me!!!)Her best friend Julie is wonderful in every way. She is beautiful, fun, cheerful and supportive of Aubrey as she takes her next steps throughout the book.

Alex....oh Alex Logan, I think I love you. He is just, ummm what's the word...oh yeah PERFECT!!! From his dark hair, to his deep blue eyes.... Oh sorry, I lost my train of thought ;)Oh yeah Alex, he owns a night club and has dealt with the pain of loosing people he loves.

Aubrey and Alex meet under the not so ordinary circumstances, but they both feel a pull like no other. The feelings they share are real and the story each of them come with is genuine. I want to fight for these two throughout the entire book. Even when the author throws a few curve balls at us.

The ending was awesome and I felt goosebumps. I cannot wait to read book 2 and continue to read more from this author.

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review. I'm going to try to not give any spoilers!!! This is a great debut novel from Joanne. Her story has a lot of depth and feeling, and you really feel like you are there with the characters.

Aubrey is looking for a muse for a romance novel, but she quickly realizes she doesn't need that novel anymore because she's living a real life romance novel. Alex is a handsome, successful guy who has had a big loss in the past, but he's looking for love, and Aubrey is it.

Of course, it just can't go off without a hitch. I was totally floored by the twist of what happened-- I didn't see it coming AT ALL. And the end!!!!!! I was cursing the author out loud, in my head, and still the next day.

I can't wait to read more of their story, and I told her I wanted it NOW. Her story will suck you in, make you care about the characters, tear your heart out, kind of put it back together, shock you to your core, and then pull the dang rug right out from under you!!!!

Go read it. Seriously.

Alex spots aubrey and is instantly drawn to her. Aubrey being a girl with only one previous relationship in her life was trying to find research to write a romance novel. Aubrey couldnt understand why Alex was drawn to a girl such as herself! Alex was known as the "Play Boy" so Aubrey thought that she would use the user for her research until she falls head over heels for this attractively rich and sweet man!

This is a GREAT STORY! I loved it! I found a lot of similiarities in myself and Aubrey. Maybe thats why I could relate so well. I loved reading the story unfold on these two as there love and relationship grew. I also became very vested in the relationship of there friends as well! This Book was recommended to me by Lisa N. Paul! And she was right its a great book! So much I bought the second book to continue the story!

I was a lucky advanced reader for Unexpected Chance. It is the debut novel of an up and coming author, Joanne Schwehm. I love to read and love stories that keep me on my toes. This did just that! The writing was great – easy to follow, well thought-out characters and plot. I could picture myself being friends with Aubrey and I could definitely picture myself with Alex, but I digress.
This story was not just a typical romance girl meets guy. I really enjoyed reading how they got to know each and how they worked together in the story. I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but man am I ready for book two. So – if you are looking for a great story, fun to ready, with the good guys, good girls and a mix of laughter, tears and fun – this is the book for you!

I had the privilege of reading this book as a ARC for a honest review.
I am very happy to say that I thought this was a very good book especially for a debut.
The journey that Aubrey will go on will leave you both laughing and in tears.
This book has so much romance and love in it that I did not want it to end and when it did I was like no I want more.
I consider myself very lucky to have read this book and look forward to watch Joanne grow.

Series: Chance #1
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance
Received from: Amazon purchase
Recommended for: 18+ due to adult language and situations
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors

This is the first in a two part series of books. It would stand alone, but I don’t think you’ll want to miss part two. If you are going to read both, they do need to be read in order.

Aubrey has always wanted to be a writer. She reads mostly romance novels and has the heart of a romantic, so of course this is her chosen genre, but she has no experience of her own. Intent on gaining experience, she contacts her best friend for advice. After a failed attempt at speed-dating, Aubrey meets Alex. Alex is gorgeous, but with a sordid reputation as a player. The girls decide that he would be perfect to play the role as muse for Aubrey and she will just have to guard her heart against the plays he will undoubtedly try on her. Unexpectedly, they fall for each other, but when a miscommunication leads to tragedy, and Aubrey is left with a broken heart. No longer concerned with her book, Aubrey must decide if she will ever trust another man.

I was contacted by one of my favorite authors and asked to give this two book series a read and review. Like I said, favorite author, so of course I said yes and I happened to have the openings in my schedule immediately, so I started reading last night. The first couple of pages, I thought to myself, “oh Lord, she sounds like Sandy at the end of Grease.” Then I turned the page and Aubrey thought to herself, “I felt like Sandy in the movie Grease calling Frenchy for a makeover. I guess in a way I was.” That was the beginning of my love affair with a brand new author. This is Ms. Schwehm’s debut novel and all I can say is please, please keep writing! I am, right now, thanking the good Lord that I already have the second book and will be starting it as soon as I finish writing up this post.

Some parts were a little predictable, but it’s a romance novel, I expect that to some extent. What I didn’t expect was how genuine the characters felt to me. I would love to be friends with people like Aubrey, Julie, Mark, Alex, and Brett. This book made me laugh. Not just a little giggle, I mean belly laughs that stopped the reading for a moment. I highlighted the whole scene when Julie calls Alex, “dude.” It also had me crying. Crying so hard I couldn’t see the page, but I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to get past the pain to the good that I hoped would be on the other side. Ms. Schwehm delivers and delivers in a big way.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves love. This is romance all of the way through. Now I need to go read the second book in this series. Talk to you again soon!

I was given the chance to read this debut book by Joanne Schwehm. I was so excited to read it for her. I know she is nervous about all of us reading her work. its a wonderful story and was every excited and honored that Joanne gave me the opportunity to read her book for an honest review.

Aubrey doesn't really know what direction she wants to go in. she has parents who love her, but have moved to a different country. she has a BFF that would do anything for her. she knows that she should be looking for a job and getting started in the "real" world. but what she really wants to do is write a romance novel, but the thing is she has no real experience in the romance department. so when her BFF Julie mentions that she can get some research at a speed dating night hosted by a local night club she is in. what she really needs is a Muse!

Alex Logan might not be into speed dating, actually he has never had a problem finding a girl for the night. but when he can't take his eyes off the girl trying so hard not to get a date he knows that his life is going to change forever. Alex is a known Playboy, he is sexy, rich, his dad is a powerful businessman.

Aubrey has found her muse, the only problem is she fell in love with him. but when a misunderstanding takes place, and Aubrey is emotionally and physically hurt her live may be forever changed. now living with her parents in a different country with out Alex or Julie she has no choice but to make a new friend. Chance is everything that she wants, he is understanding, listens to her talk, is there for her when she thinks that she has NO one else. but the think is she doesn't know if Alex walked back in her life if she who she would choose in the end.

This book started out a little slow for me, but I really wanted to like it for Joanne, but the more I read the more I was into the story, in to the lives for the characters of the book. yes I figured out that twist of the book, but I really wanted to see when and how Aubrey would figure it out. I am really looking forward to the next book of this series! Thank you Joanne for giving me the honor to read your Debut book. I am so excited for you and look forward to get things!

Oh my I don't even know where to begin with this one! This book was freaking fabulous! It sucked me in from the very beginning and had me swooning all the way through!

The characters, aww the characters. Well lets start with Aubrey. I found her to be very relatable in a lot of ways. The shy quiet girl that is just out looking for someone to love her... I think we've all been there at one point or another. There were times when I wanted to give her a good shaking but for the most part you just couldn't help but feel for her.

Then there was Alex.... WOW! That is all I can say! One of the most swoon worthy book boyfriends I have ever come across in a book! He is the kind of guy that most women would kill for. He has the money, the looks and the personality! But the most amazing part about Alex was how incredibly sweet and kind he was. All the way through this whole book you just fell more and more in love with him. The author has done a fabulous job of creating a male lead that is just through and through amazing!

This story will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There are times when you laugh, times when you cry and times when you are just plain and simple mad! Joanne has taken every woman's fantasy and made it come to life in this book. Once you start you will not be able to stop and will be begging for more... I know I did!

All in all this is a fabulous 5 Star read! My only complaint was having to wait and see how it ended. I am in desperate need of some more Alex and can't wait to see how this series will end!

If you are looking to read a great romance book to get captivated in this Unexpected Chance is that book! As much as I would love to give away spoilers I will not. This is such a beautiful love story between two people who you'll fall in love with. Granted they have their ups and downs but what book doesn't!
I love a good Alpha male book but I also love that romantic guy book as well. You get the romantic guy in this book. And I LOVE it!
You have Aubrey, who's an aspiring romance writer, and Alex, hot club owner (before you go thinking oh great another club owner STOP!). They meet by chance and they don't jump into bed right away. He shows her romance. Shows her how she should be treated. This make Alex HOT HOT HOT!!! These two have such a great chemistry together and you get swept away.
Side note Alex's BFF Brett and Aubrey's BFF Julie are awesome supporting characters! They have a relationship too and I'd love to see where it goes! Who knew for the price of one book you'd get 2 stories?!?! I for one want to see Julie and Brett have their own story! (HINT HINT Joanne)
So what are you waiting for go ONE CLICK now!!!!

UNEXPECTED CHANCE (CHANCE 1) by JOANNE SCHWEHM

This book piqued my interest when I received an email promotion of book 2 of this series so I checked the synopsis of this book and decided to give it a try. I like the second chance feel to it and ya know I dig stories like this one.

My Unexpected Chance is quite long yet everything blended perfectly. Every chapter seems to get better and better and the characters in the story are quite intriguing and the plot is really good. The love scenes were definitely hot but what I like most is how the characters developed into something more and how they managed to be someone who’s willing to love and feel loved. You will swoon and feel giddy reading the scenes and you will also feel sad and sorry for them. The last part of the book is definitely heartbreaking but worth the tears. There’s a cliffhanger that will make you scream to death. I swear, coz I did.

I really need book 2, ASAP. This book is definitely worth the read. I recommend.

Oiy! This book was amazing!

This has got to be the hardest review for me to write ever. As all of my reviews are, I don't post spoilers however that's all I want to do to tell everyone how amazing this book is.

I will do my best to say what I want.

For starters, Alex... my mind keeps going to Alex, I haven't been able to stop thinking about how perfect he is for the past 3 days since I read the book. He is sweet, handsome, loving, amazing, knows how to capture a girls heart. Alex is New York's #1 bachelor and business owner of a well known high end club.

Aubrey is a fantastic heroine for the book. She is sweet, however she is not overly confident that she is beautiful, however she is. She was only looking for a muse for her book and perhaps she found more.

There is love and drama and some heartbreak in this story. I was enthralled with the story from the beginning and couldn't put it down. I am so happy that I didn't have to wait for book two because that would have just been torture.

This book is for those 18+ due to sex and language.

I recommend this story to anyone who loves a good romance with just enough drama.

ok I just Love, Love this story about Alex and Aubrey. This is about Love finding it when you least expect it. Aubrey always wanted to write romance books but her lack of boyfriends gave her none. Her BFF Julie worked for a company hosting a speed dating night so Julie convinced Aubrey to do it for research. That is where she meets Alex but he isnt there for the speed dating he owns the Club hosting it. Alex ask Aubrey for a date she agrees feeling a connection so she thinks she can still do her research. As time goes by they fall in love research long forgotten, but Alex fines her notes only reads the first page and not the rest to see its more a diary then research. He (Alex) reacts thinking he has been played. A chain reaction happens Aubrey falls after witnessing Alex kiss another women to hurt her as he was hurt by Aubrey. Aubrey accident changes everything . She moves away so her parents can help her recover. Is Alex and Aubrey's Love worth fighting for. You have to read this story it was wonderful. Now have to wait for her next book. Well done Joanne Schwehm.

Incredibly emotional but Awesome!! I felt instantly connected to Aubrey and totally in love with Alex. Having had the pleasure of reading bits and pieces of Unexpected Chance while it was being written by Joanne Schwehm, all the excitement that was building in anticipation of the release of her finished book could not have prepared me for the sexy pairing of Alex and Aubrey, and the heart wrenching twists and turns that occur throughout this amazing story! The ending left me screaming NO! Oh no, no, no......WHAT the hell, I need to know! Please, please don't leave me hanging!!!!! Totally excited to find out what happens next! All I can say is you have to read this book! I won't ruin it for someone by talking about what happens in the book but trust me you will be blindsided and eagerly anticipating book 2!

This was a pretty good read, In my opinion she shouldn't have been so mad with him. She did her on part in the reason he did what he did. I'm looking fwd to reading next book in series to see what happens.

Great story! A couple of very late nights as I don't have much time to read but I couldn't put this down. Cover model really does look like Alex Logan. I had to jump right into book two. If you like romance novels, then this is a must read.
