I absolutely love The Visitor’s Series, and Kayla happens to be my favorite character, as well as an essential key to a lot of the mystery. So when I found out that Kayla had her own Novella, I jumped at the chance of reading and reviewing it. There was so much mystery behind this character, and I couldn’t wait to read her story. If you are a fan of The Visitor’s Series, this is a must read; however, this can be a stand-alone book as well if you have not read the previous two books.

Rumors around town claimed Kayla was a witch, so when she went missing on August 11th, no one seemed too concern about finding her. Sure, her attire consisted mainly of black, as did her makeup, but that doesn’t mean she practiced witchcraft, does it? And why would her once “friends” claim she was drunk and wandered into the woods alone, when they know the truth behind her disappearance? So what if she busted Anna cheating on her boyfriend, is that worth harming someone over? And those Barclay sisters who were killed years prior for their evil ways, what did they have to do with the mysterious disappearance of Kayla? Or is she just a girl that didn’t want to be found?

Kayla used to be friends with Anna and Isabel all throughout grade school; but once they entered high school and their bodies matured, Kayla was kicked to the side for the football jocks. Unfortunately, they lived close enough together that Kayla could hear the two girls laughing at their house. They were attached at the hip in every sense in the way, including taunting Kayla as a team.

John Mayhew, however, is another mysterious character Kayla keeps an eye on; and when he stops by to “just say hi”; she knows something is going on. John never “just stops by”, there is always a reason for his visits. Her mom works for his family, and although he is two years younger than Kayla, he is drawn to her; but would never admit to anyone. And regardless if she liked him or not, she knew the risk of getting involved with him- it could mean the termination of her mother’s job. And just what is his involvement and fascination with the Barclay sister’s about?

Kayla decides it’s time to stop being the loner and quiet outcast she has become, and learn to socialize, especially with a particular football hottie, Rich. So when he invites her to the bonfire at his house with his friends, she reluctantly agrees; hoping together they can discover who they each really are. Except John keeps getting in the way, and insists that everyone will leave her alone if she agrees to do a séance at the old Barclay place. Only, things don’t go exactly as planned….

Christy gave me the opportunity and honor of reading this awesome book before it came out. It made me love a character even more than I loved her in the Brown House and Crimson Key. I could so identify with Kayla, for all intents and purposes she WAS me. Hearing and seeing the story through her eyes was so beautiful. Seeing the gorgeous soul of this complicated character was just so very real to me. Christy really gets to the "heart" of her characters and you can see the story taking place around you and feel everything that the characters are feeling. She's such a talented word weaver and I can't wait to read the next book in the series "The White Door." The Brown House series of books is so entrancing and riveting. Its just an awesome series of books and is in my short list of favorites I would recommend to ANYONE looking for an awesome read!

This novella is book 2.5 in The Visitor's Series. I highly recommend your start with book number one, The Brown House so that you get the history and backstories.

This is Kayla's POV. Kayla is easily my favorite side character and I was pleasantly surprised to find out she has her own story.

It's not a happy story, but it is a story that needed to be told.

Kayla is easy to identify with. She's likeable, relatable and best of all, strong willed. She isn't afraid to be herself and she's definitely not a follower.

I really dislike John. He does has some redeeming qualities in the books but I do not like him in this novella. Yuck.

Overall, I highly recommend that you read this book before starting book three. My heart goes out to Kayla. I hope she has a happy ending in the last book.

Hauntingly brilliant! I love this series!! After reading The Brown House I knew I had to read the others. This time around I was so wrapped up in the romance brewing that I somehow forgot this was not a paranormal romance leaving me in utter shock when Kayla's reality became known to us (again).
I screamed, "Why?!? WHY?!? Why?!?" Honestly ... I knew what was coming since hello it's in the blurb, BUT I was so enthralled in this new found happiness Kayla had found that I convinced my subconscious to believe she would get that happy ending I longed for her to have!! I flipped those pages so quickly searching, but the eery truth lurked just ahead. And ... BAM!!! Everything I feared came true!
This is a wonderfully written tale that will chill you to the bone. While the harsh reality of this story impacted me in a way I wasn't fully prepared for I am amazed at Sloat's ability to balance the emotions & turmoil with a haunting good read! I can't wait for the sequel in 2014!

Unfound takes us to meet Kayla and learn more about the ghost girl of The Visitor’s Series. I loved Kayla from the word go, she was the unpopular girl that so many poked at, gossiped about, the underdog if you will. I wanted to find out all I could such a tragedy to be used the way she was and be well….unfound. I loved seeing her bloom in the story to at least experience more of what life could be before becoming the ghost.
Christy Sloat has hit another home run with this novella, she brings us deeper into the world of The Visitor’s Series, making me want more, more, more. I would happily read books in this series forever, I love it so. I recommend this book to everyone, it is really good….but, you must read the rest of the series also, just so you can get the full effect. The other two books are: The Brown House & The Crimson Key. You will never regret it!! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

We are introduced to Kayla in the first two books of The Visitors Series, The Brown House and The Crimson Key. Unfound is Kayla’s story. I immediately connected with the character. Kayla is in high school, doesn’t fit in with the “it crowd” and is bullied by other students. While Kayla puts up a good front that being popular isn’t important to her, she like most girls her age really just longs to fit in and be accepted. Through this short novella the reader gets a glimpse into her life and struggles. I was ecstatic to see that Kayla does find love and acceptance before the night of the séance that ended her life in the woods near the Brown House. Unfound adds new depth to the other books in the series and is a great short read. I definitely recommend it if you are a fan of The Visitors Series and are like me, in limbo awaiting the release of The White Door.

Kayla is one of my favorite characters in The Visitors series, so it was good too read her back story of who she was and how her presence came to be in The Brown House and the rest of the series.

In The Brown House series you see Kayla as this outcast and loner that does not care about anyone really. In this novella though you find that Kayla was a girl that loved a boy and hated that she was picked on by the popular girl that happened to live next door to her. In Unfound you see how peer pressure sometimes has negative outcomes in this case death. If you have read The Brown House and loved Kayla you should definitely should read Unfound.

Kayla used to be Miss popular until one summer when her "friends" moved on and left her all alone. Kayla decided to try put the goth/witch look and scared everyone away. A twist in fate brings Rich into the picture, luckily for Kayla he can see past her tough exterior. Kayla agrees to host a seance at the Brown house, the only reason is to give everyone a fright. Sadly for her it backfires. This novella gives you the insight we missed before into Kayla's life. Im glad to know more about her, I enjoy her part in the other books and now I know her story.

The Visitor's Series, A Novella

Kayla is one of my favourite characters in the series, and this novella just made me love her more! As for Rich, the poor boy, tragic doesn’t even begin to cover it. If you’ve read The Brown House or The Crimson Key then this is a must read. If not, be prepared to read them as soon as you finish this book. The author managed to portray the emotions so well throughout the book, and it kept me completely gripped from start to finish.

I fell in love with this story. I teach high school and could see a number of my students in this book. I love the story and the way the characters unfolded. I could totally relate to Kayla as I was the strange girl that people were always talking about. I even had a parent of a friend accuse me of being a witch just because I was different. I just fell in love with this author's work.

I would suggest this to anyone who likes the coming of age teen novels. If you liked The Hollow this novella had some of the same themes. I can't wait to read more by Christy.

WOW....why did I wait so long to read this novella?? I finished The Visitor Series months and months ago and never read this companion novella...mistake! Although I found my heart broken by the end. Kayla finally found her happy! Finally found her match, the person that she could be herself with and love, and then tragedy. I love Kayla and who she is and the strength she was finding, and I am so happy that she was able to find Brylee and build such a great friendship and get closure to Rich..sniff...so good!

Kayla is such a great character. I really relate to her because I was her in high school (without the blue hair). I love learning more of her story. I some how missed this one when I was reading The Visitor's series and I am sorry I did. The writing is great as is the storyline. I greatly enjoyed this novella and would recommend this series to anyone because it's so good. This is my favorite of all of Christy Sloat's series.

I am usually not a fan of novellas. While I love the idea of more info/back story on the characters, the books are normally way to short for my liking. I'm still left wanting to know more about the character. That's not the case with Unfound. We learn so much about who Kayla really is. Kudos Christy!

Kayla's story.

Most of this story was stuff we had already heard, but it went more in depth. This was in Kayla's POV. Where it's not a necessary part of the series it was a good, quick read. On to the conclusion, The White Door.

I read this a while ago and honestly, don't remember it that well.

But I do remember that I was grateful to read Kayla's side of the story. I never knew her backstory was like that. So interesting.

Though it wasn't particularly exciting.
