I got a copy in exchange for an honest review
I really enjoyed Destiny and I've been looking forward to the sequel Synchrony for quite some time. When I finally received my copy I started reading it the same day. Synchrony picks off a little bit after Destiny ended. Synchrony is even more filed with drama and emotions than Destiny was and I really enjoyed this book. The pace of the story flows well and I just wanted to keep reading, I really like Cindy her writing style.
The main focus of this book is Destiny and her relationship problems, she is in love with Isaac, but also likes Preston. I did think there was a bit too much back and forth, one moment Isaac and Destiny seemed good together and then she wanted Preston, but she kept thinking about Isaac. Destiny didn't seem to be able to make up her mind and I felt a bit bad for both boys, who cared about her so much, but never really got her as the other one was still in her heart as well. I also though there was a bit too much miscommunication, Isaac never get's to explain things and the whole reason for their break-up was just a miscommunication. Destiny, Isaac and preston each make some stupid descisions, which cause a lot of drama and problems and sometimes I wish they would just have a good talk about it all with each other. Sometimes they jumped to conclusions or said things, without thinking it through. I also wished Destiny would make up her mind and stay with her choice instead of running to the other when things got tough. I think I prefer Preston and Destiny together, but Isaac and Destiny together would make a better story as they have so many problems to overcome. The difficult thing is that both characters are nice and both have moments with Destiny where it's obvious they are good together. I guess we'll see with whom she ends up in book 3.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I read it in only a few days and even was thinking about it when I wasn't reading. There are also some interesting sub plots, like the issue with the school Destiny attends and the headmaster's hatred for Mormons. I also really liked the subplots involving Hannah and Olivia, both are two characters who I loved to see more of. I also liked how the religion was handled in this book, I don't read a lot of books that deal with religion, but this series makes me reconsider that. Now I know that religion can be done well, I actually enjoyed learning more about both the Baptists and the Mormons.
This book is told from 3 different point of views: Preston, Isaac and Destiny. I really liked to see each of their point of views and how certain decisions impacted them. Although sometimes I had some difficulties remembering who's pov it was, especially when I stopped reading in the middle of a chapter and then picked it up again later. The 3 characters their voices are a bit too alike and that's why sometimes it took me some effort to remember who's pov it was.
I like how Cindy makes each character seem important, ofcourse some character are more important for the story than others, but the side characters still get their fair share of attention as well. The families of all 3 main characters play an important part as well as their friends from school and church. Both preston and Destiny have large families and sometimes I had trouble remembering each family members name and age. To conclude: I realy enjoyed Synchrony and it's a great sequel. The love triangle is gettign even more important in this book and there is a lot of drama and emotional scenes. I thought that there was a bit too much miscommunication and some things could've been prevented if they just talked baout. I like how both the main characters and side characters are important and the story is told from 3 perspectives. I am looking forward to the third book in this series and I am curious to find out with whom Destiny ends up with.

Love this story. Sometimes I wonder if I like it even better than Destiny. It's definitely much darker, but I feel like the characters make better choices. I'm so proud of Destiny in this story and how strong she has become.

How is it possible to love a book so much? I have no idea what it is about this book that connects me to it, hooks me, and brings on an obsession. I'm not a teenager anymore, yet this book makes me feel like I'm good friends with the characters and that I'm that young again.
Destiny is a pretty typical teen girl who is trying to figure out her feelings and who her heart really wants. She has that love-hate relationship with her younger sister, Olivia, that brings a familiar feel to the story. Who has the perfect relationship with their younger sister? Especially at this age? Destiny faced so many decisions in her journey to growing up and they're not easy ones to make. I love the way she's so real and natural. I think in some ways, she reminds me of bits and pieces of myself. She's just who she is--she doesn't really want to stand out, yet she does because of her religion. She doesn't want to hurt anyone, yet she does, no matter what road she chooses. She has a fun personality and is a good friend to those around her.
Isaac is a dreamboat! Is that still a word? He's popular, very good-looking, nice, and extremely talented. Who wouldn't melt with a velvety voice singing Les Mis songs? He, too, is trying to figure out what he wants out of life. I liked the way he tries to stay true to who he is and to stand up for what he wants. I wish he would've handled things a little differently with the fight--maybe in a way so that it wouldn't have been an issue. In case you can't tell, I'm Team Isaac!
Preston is a good friend and probably the better match (at least, on paper, in my opinion) for Destiny. He is so strong (not just physically), solid, loyal, and kind. He handles the many things in his life very well--better than most teens would. He's had to grow up faster than most. He treats Destiny like a princess!
I love the way the story comes together. There are fantastic characters (major, supporting, and even some I love to hate). I am seriously in love with this story and can't wait to find out what happens next!
Content: some mild violence; no language that I can remember; talk of religion, but not overbearing; kissing. Clean!

I love this book and series!! This book starts right where book one ended. Destiny and Isaac are back together and want their relationship to work. This time, they decide to hide the fact that they're a couple. It's a strain but they're managing. Then, one night, Destiny learns Isaac's secret and is devastated (to his credit, he tried telling her earlier). It feeds into her insecurities about Isaac so she promptly breaks up with him and wants nothing to do with him. Isaac is also devastated and tries to talk to Destiny, but she has locked him out.
Preston helps Destiny by just being her friend and is someone she opens up to. She sees him in a new light and they start dating. Her family is thrilled and life is easier. Destiny likes Preston and wants things to work out with him, but she's not completely over Isaac. She's still got the play with him and sees him at school. Then, Isaac starts coming to church. Will Destiny stay with Preston or go back to Isaac?
That really becomes the question throughout the book. I thought there were some great scenes and Destiny doesn't have an easy choice to make. There's one especially dramatic scene towards the end which shakes things up. I love the pacing, conversations and teen drama. I love that the chapters switch between Isaac, Destiny and Preston so we know what they're each thinking and going through. We also learn more about some of the side characters which will make things interesting in book 3.
I like how Preston and Isaac are both portrayed and I actually like both of them. As a mother, I would probably want my daughter to choose Preston. However, since I'm privy to what they're all thinking, I see more of a connection between Destiny and Isaac. I'm officially Team Isaac but won't be upset if she ends up with Preston. I'm so looking forward to Harmony to see how it ends!!

I am a huge fan of this series. It has interesting characters, sweet relationships and meaningful conflict. The writing is awesome, with few to zero mistakes, and as the story is told from multiple POV’s, each character has a distinct voice.
While it’s probably accurate to say I liked this book better than the first, it also had annoying elements that weren’t in Destiny.
The Love Triangle.
This is one that I’ll probably never get away from. Heck, I even have love triangles in my own writing. Some people think they are the greatest conflict in the literary world. I think I prefer love triangles where the girl isn’t seriously interested in both guys at the same time. Or furiously switching back and forth at a moment’s notice. Destiny felt a little this way which seemed slightly out of character for her since she’s usually pretty level headed and thoughtful about things.
Which sort of piggy-backs onto the next thing: Destiny pretty seriously leads both guys on. Not on purpose, since that would be very out of character, but it just didn’t seem like something she’d do. Like, I felt bad for Isaac and Preston. They both have a right to be made at her during this book.
Being an actress myself, I love the Les Miserables parallel in this book. It’s my favorite musical (I’m actually seeing the revival on Broadway next Saturday!!) and it’s a fun addition to the story. Surprisingly, it never really feels cheesy or forced, which I sort of expected it to when I first read the synopsis. Instead, it heightens the drama in a good way.
Destiny has to do a lot of growing in this book, which was interesting to see. I like that she is in situations that force her to change and grow and really figure out what it is she values most.
The religious unrest and conflict is still in full swing, and from the ending, it sounds like it’s about to get even worse. The characters change and grow in this series, and I’m fascinated to see where everyone ends up and what they end up believing.
Oh, and for the record, I’m Team Isaac :)

I clenched my fists at my sides. “That can’t happen.”
“Why not? I’m doing everything I can here. Don’t you see that?”
“Isaac.” I sighed. “I’m already dating someone else.” There. I’d finally said it.
“What? You’re pulling the ‘I’m dating Preston’ card again? Hannah told me you were faking that. Do you know what I think? I think you’re scared to commit. You’re afraid of getting hurt again. We belong together. Can’t you feel that? Look me in the eyes and tell me that you don’t still feel something for me.”
I studied the bushes.
Isaac took my chin and turned it toward him. “Look me in the eyes.”
I bit my lower lip to keep it from trembling. It was impossible to look in his beautiful eyes. I couldn’t say it because my heart was overflowing with my feelings for him.
“You can’t say it, can you?” He placed his hands on either side of my face, and I finally looked him in the eyes. I had to do what was best for him. He deserved better. I only had one heart to give, and I’d just pledged the entire thing to Preston.

In this second book, Isaac and Destiny are trying to make it as a couple, but obstacles keep getting thrown in their way. First, Destiny's parents find out that they've been sneaking around, then Destiny starts to get jealous of Isaac's ex-girlfriend. But things go completely south between them when Destiny finds out the secret that Isaac has been hiding from her. She is crushed, and she turns to her longtime friend (and admirer), Preston, for comfort. But, just when her relationship with Preston truly takes off, Isaac decides that it's time to truly clear the air with Destiny - and suddenly she's back to being completely unsure about where she stands with either boy.
What I loved:
Les Mis.
Just like in the first book, the characters were rehearsing for their upcoming production of Les Mis. Since I'm a huge fan of the musical, I loved all of the references to the show and the parallels between the play and the characters' real lives.
Isaac.
There were a few things that Isaac did in this book that really endeared him to me. I don't want to go into too much about what they were, but he came off as a pretty great guy in this book.
Hannah.
Again, I don't want to go into any details, but Hannah has her own storyline in this book that I really enjoyed. I can't wait to find out more about what happens with her.
Preston.
I really liked Preston in the first book (I remember kind of thinking that maybe Destiny would have been better off with him than Isaac) and I loved him even more in this book. Some of the chapters in this book were told from Preston's point of view, and he totally won me over. Preston just seems like an amazing guy. First of all, he worked so hard to hold his family together in the face of his mother's illness, I couldn't help but feel miserable for him when his life was falling apart. And then he was willing to give Destiny a shoulder to cry on - listening to her misery about Isaac and never trying to tell her, "I told you so." When Destiny and Preston first started to transition to something more than friends, he was so sweet and caring, never wanting to push her or take advantage of her sadness over Isaac. I was pretty much a huge Preston fan. Only problem was, I knew I was probably rooting for the wrong guy. Which brings me to -
The negatives:
Destiny and Preston.
I just said how much I loved Preston, but just by reading the synopsis, I knew that things were not going to go smoothly for him and Destiny. And they didn't. I couldn't help but be horrified and sad over the way that Destiny ended up treating Preston (and Isaac, really - read the next bullet point for that one).
Lack of communication.
If you read my reviews often, you know that I hate it when relationships go bad simply because of a lack of communication. This is definitely a pet peeve of mine, and that's exactly what happened here. When Destiny finds out Isaac's secret, she completely refuses to talk to him - ever again. She doesn't even give him five minutes to explain himself, read any of his texts or listen to any of his messages. She completely ignores him. Making me even crazier, she would then pout to herself when he didn't continue to try desperately to get her attention - even months later. I just found the whole thing aggravating and found myself not feeling particularly sympathetic where Destiny and Isaac were concerned.
So, while I found myself enjoying most of this book (especially the beginning and the end), there were parts in the middle that made me plain aggravated with Destiny. I was starting to think she didn't really deserve either guy! Still, I have to admit that I was completely drawn in and I will definitely be reading the next book to find out what happens. Overall, I give this one 3.5/5 stars.

I wavered between 4 and 5 stars on this book, but finally decided on 4. I really like this series and I'm interested to see where the author takes it in the next book. This is the second book in the Destiny trilogy, and it is full of drama and turmoil. Destiny and Isaac (and Preston to some extent) are still dealing with prejudice and opposition from friends and family for their religious beliefs and interest in each other. Destiny and Isaac decide to make their relationship secret again to give themselves from breathing room. Neither of them expects things to go downhill so fast, or such big mistakes to be made.
Preston plays a bigger part in this book. I really like Preston. I really like Isaac too. I'm not usually a fan of love triangles, because someone always gets hurt and it's usually the guy I'm cheering for. I have a pretty good guess as to who Destiny will end up with, but the author might surprise me. Isaac was the hero of book 1, but he disappointed me in this book. The characters all frustrated me at one point or another by making selfish or desperate decisions. I don't mean this is a negative way—only that I screamed, "No, don't do that!" several times throughout the book. I loved the drama and the way they all changed over the course of the story. There is more going on with the minor characters as well. Friends and family members have some developments that play into Destiny's decisions and add to the tension. As with the first book, religion plays a big factor in the story. Not in a preachy way, but it's part of the characters' lives and affects their decisions. The author handled it well.
The only thing I didn't like was how the characters thought about marriage so much. They were all high school students. It seemed premature for them to be thinking about forever. But honestly, that was a very minor complaint. I liked the book a lot. I especially liked the way the characters changed for the better, even if they made mistakes along the way. I'm not sure how everything is going to resolve in the final book, but I will definitely be reading it.

I'm not usually a fan of love triangles, because someone always gets hurt and it's usually the guy I'm cheering for. I have a pretty good guess as to who Destiny will end up with, but the author might surprise me. Isaac was the hero of book 1, but he disappointed me in this book. I enjoyed reading this book on so many levels! There are so many plots and sub plots but, they flow so synchronized that you don't have to flip back and forth to know who is who or what is going on. Synchrony's characters are so real that you almost feel as though you are apart of them. Destiny, Issac and Preston I would say are the three main characters and are typical teenagers. Destiny keeps these boys on their toes and has a whirlwind of a time trying to decide with which boy her heart truly lies with. I so loved both of the boys they were great both trying so hard to win Destiny's heart at times I felt sorry for them both as they where trying so hard. Two other characters in the book Hannah and Olivia both of which I feel there is more of a story to be told. I would truly love to find out more about them. As I read further into Synchrony I learned of the religious aspects of the book and at first I wanted to put it down and stop reading as Religious books are not my choice of genre but this one is different Synchrony pulled it all together and didn't leave me feeling conflicted or like I had to be religious to understand the story. Both Mormon and Baptist religious beliefs are covered in the book but done so eloquently that I found my self loving the story even more! I was raised in the Baptist faith but have since removed myself from it's teachings as I found I had to many unanswered questions. Synchrony gave me a renewed sense of faith all my own with not feeling tied to anyone faith but belief in faith itself once again. I truly enjoyed this book and think that Cindy Ray Hale is a remarkable author! Go check out her work for yourself you may find yourself a new book!

Touche, Ms. Hale. My hat goes off to you for avoiding that dreaded second book slump. Once again, we're thrust into Destiny's world, and while this book holds a lot of love... it's not as triangle-ish as reviewers made it out to be. And even at the points when it was, I'm not mad at it. Let me explain: Destiny spent equal time alone with the guys (there was literally an entire chunk of the novel where Issac is just a blip on her/Preston's radar) and though I am firmly Team Issac all day, every day, it made me feel invested in Destiny's relationship to Preston (however brief). I wouldn't say these characters "happen" to be religious, that's a callous understatement, but they're teenagers going through normal issues who don't come across as holier than thou. That tends to be why people shy away from Christian fiction; the protagonist and cast of characters are too perfect to be believed, but this series breaks the mold: Destiny is defiant and makes more than a few mistakes, teens have sex and actually have consequences (also, kudos for using the oft forgotten option of adoption- abortion is a touchy subject for most, and Hannah was smart enough to acknowledge the harrowing logistics of raising a kid when you're still a kid. Also, I feel you on the whole no mothering instincts thing, unless you count my pets), and mean girls are everywhere. This is a rambley review and I don't care; that's what happens when I enjoy a book. I think a person such as myself, who is not the target audience, being able to enjoy this book (again, having been raised in the church of "be nice and don't talk with your mouthful") speaks volumes on the strength of not only author talent, but subject matter; to me, it's about tolerance, love, and being true to your beliefs (no matter what they are) especially when it's hard because that's when it counts.

Continuing the story of Destiny and her heart. Should she follow it or should she follow the rules of the church. Throw in lies and everything becomes more difficult. Destiny has to decide to stay with Isaac or go with her lifetime friend Preston, who is also in the same religion and her family accepts.

Synchrony is an amazing follow up from the first book in the series, Destiny. It has reminded me that no matter what, my love for the YA genre will never falter. The author has truly poured her heart and soul into this story. You feel it in her characters. Their words, their actions. If you loved Destiny, Synchrony will absolutely blow you away.

Synchrony picks up a bit after where Destiny left off. At this point, her parents have found out about the forbidden relationship she has developed with Isaac Robinson, the Baptist boy. Isaac and Destiny grow closer and encounter many ups and downs. Their foundation is completely rocked to its core when Destiny discovers Isaac's secret. Isaac is distraught over it, but knows everything needed to be out. Destiny is not so forgiving. Her heart is shattered. In pieces. In walks Preston Nelson to save the day once again. Destiny leans on him and they become even closer. Disaster strikes in this circle of teens, and feelings from all angles reemerge. Is Preston who Destiny wants? Or does her connection with Isaac beyond anything she could even imagine?
"My heart and soul craved Destiny. She completed me on levels that I didn't know were possible, and we'd only scratched the surface...Destiny offered me a life beyond my imagining."
Destiny. Isaac. Preston. Did not see that coming! Ok, well maybe I did, but I did not expect for my heart to be pulling for both boys. They each care and adore Destiny in their own ways. They are both genuine and real. Isaac goes against all his beliefs and what he was taught all his life, just for love. And Preston? He feels this connection to protect Destiny from everything. Even Isaac. You will see Destiny go through a lot with both of the boys. I do not want to give away the story. But your heart will be torn in two, just like Destiny's. You will fall in love with her. You will cry with her. You will just FEEL.
"But at the same time, I don't know how I can live without you."
Where do I stand? Team Isaac of course. It's not that I don't love Preston, I do. He is kind, thoughtful, and wants nothing more to love Destiny. But Isaac? He loves without conviction. While religion is a huge part of who he is, his love for Destiny blinds him. He sees only her. She is right for him. And no matter what his dad and his teachings have told him, love is never wrong. Not with Destiny. I honestly have NO idea where this story is going to go and who will ultimately be with Destiny, but I am SO excited to find out. I may be hoping (BEGGING!) for a release soon!

If you are going into this thinking it's "just" a love triangle, it is SO much more than that. Yes, there is angst and definitely emotion. However, it is about a group of young people finding themselves, falling in love, and their journey is just beginning. Although teenagers, I found that the voices of these characters are strong. I love that the author gives her characters such strong voices as it allows readers of all ages to relate to them and their story.
"He was loyal down to the marrow in his bones, and I knew, like I should have always know, he would never break my heart if I gave it to him."
Synchrony is one of the most effortlessly and flawlessly written books I've read in awhile. Although the story is told in the POV of three characters-Destiny, Isaac, and Preston, it flows exceptionally well. You get the entire story, not just pieces. You are given access to see what the main characters are thinking, feeling. As a fan of contemporary romance I usually turn to YA when I need a FEEL romance. Basically I lived 'Synchrony' as I read it. Yes. Lived. Every word. There was real, raw, genuine angst and emotion. It gave me ALL THE FEELS. I gasped. I put my kindle down. I said "OH NO" out loud. This story is beautiful beyond words. You will feel for every single character. No matter their age, you will relate. I cannot wait for the third book in this series.

I was really disappointed with this, especially since I quite liked the first book and thought the series had potential. But Synchrony's plot is just one giant love triangle, with not much happening outside of it. And the characters really pissed me off as well. So overall it took a good deal of forcibly calming myself down to finish the book.
Destiny and Isaac are finally together, out in the open. But that still brings trouble for them, on account of Destiny being a Mormon and Isaac being Baptist. So they keep their relationship on the down low again. Things are going pretty good, until Destiny finds out the reason Isaac began talking to her in the first place - to get dirt on the Mormons so they can be kicked out of the school. Destiny has never felt so betrayed, and her heart is completely broken. Preston steps up to help her heal, and they grow closer together. But Isaac doesn't give up. Things get really messy when Destiny can't pick between the two, and manages to string both along at the same time.
The first thing I notice about this is something I was shocked about in the previous book as well - how narrow-minded so many of these people are. I mean seriously, they judge like crazy based on religion. And they're all Christian anyway! Their beliefs are just a little different. I hated seeing all of that, especially since this is the 21st century and you've got to be accepting of other religions.
I really didn't like Destiny in this book. Firstly she overreacts way too much about the breakup with Isaac. The way she went on and on, it was like someone close to her had died. And she has no qualms using Preston, the one guy who'd do anything for her and who's loved her forever. Destiny uses him to heal her own broken heart, not caring what happens to him in the process. They begin dating, but this girl can't get Isaac out of her head. And she hurts Preston horribly at one point, where she makes a huge mistake, but voluntarily. I wanted to punch her in the face then!
I don't have much to say about Isaac, other than the fact that I don't really like him, and for me the choice is an obvious one. Why can't Destiny see that Preston is the one she should be with? I felt so heartbroken for him. He's an amazing guy, and if Destiny doesn't see that, she definitely doesn't deserve to be with him. But Preston on the other hand stupidly decides to fight for her, saying she's worth it. Yeah, right. Save yourself the heartache, Preston, and go find someone who deserves you and wouldn't stomp all over you.
The entire book basically revolves around these three and their love life. And Destiny's all like "omg I hate Isaac, Preston's so good to me, no but why can't I stop thinking of Isaac, omg Isaac is actually really sweet, but so is Preston, but I love Isaac, but Preston, but Isaac..." You get the point. I was so frustrated throughout.
And then this random plot twist involving Hannah pops up, and it was honestly really hard to believe, considering how religious these people are. And I didn't really see the point of it. Maybe to finally get some attention away from the love triangle? Anyway, it didn't work very well. And I feel like I might pick up the final book to see who Destiny finally chooses, though I think I will be disappointed with the outcome.

This one picks up where book one ended, it's a clean romance with secrets and drama, it'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry. but a must read for both YA and all alike.

I was surprised when I first read Destiny. I didn't expect I would like a book that had so much to do with religion - well it wasn't about religion but religion is what caused two families to feud and two people to struggle to be together. I ended up loving Destiny's story and was really thrilled to continue on with Synchrony. Fortunately, it left me feeling satisfied and entertained like I was hoping it would as well as having an ending that keeps me wanting for more.
In Synchrony we start off with Isaac and Destiny having to hide their relationship once again. There are so many people against their relationship that they both decide it's best to keep away from each other in public. Tension starts to arise from them having to hide their relationship. Ultimately, Destiny and Issac are driven apart by past mistakes that are revealed by the very people who are so against them being together. Emotionally distraught from Isaac's betrayal Destiny seeks comfort from Preston, her childhood friend who has had a crush on her for the longest time. You know him as the guy Destiny used as her fake boyfriend in the last book. As Destiny and Preston become closer she is able to heal from the heartache that Issac caused. And as her heart is healing she starts to think maybe she was wrong about Isaac. Just maybe, he isn't as bad as she once thought.
I knew their secrets were going to come back and haunt them! I called it. There was a lot of drama in this second half of Destiny's story that included secrets being revealed, a love triangle, and unexpected friend and family problems cropping up. There was much to take in yet I didn't feel overwhelmed at all. One of the biggest facets of this story is the love triangle. I don't particularly like love triangles unless I love both love interests. I don't in this case. Preston is okay but Isaac is better. So I didn't really like that it's going to continue on into the next book. Although, I am still a little excited to see how it all turns out romance wise. Destiny wise, at first I was annoyed that she was constantly worried and wouldn't give Isaac a chance to defend himself when his secret is revealed. However, as I got into the story I realized she acted the way any teenager would have if they were faced with the same situation. So she was insecure -everybody is at one point. I'd probably be worried if I were her too. So after I got over that I enjoyed where her story took me.
I may sound strange but this book felt like a guilty pleasure read for me. It's just really entertaining. The plot line kept me engaged so much that I flew by this book wanting to read more as soon as I was done. It's an easy read that flows very nicely. It also has the addition of the right amount of drama that keeps me interested while also not overwhelming me. The religion portion of the book was once again addressed really well and didn't hinder the way I felt about the story as a whole. It actually was very refreshing especially since the book is all about accepting each others beliefs respectfully. I honestly enjoyed Destiny more than Synchrony however, I really like where the story headed in Synchrony. I also really look forward to the battle that is sure to ensue in the next book to come. Things are going to get really crazy, really fast, I know it. And I'll be there cheering Destiny on.

I am going to review Destiny (Book 1) and Synchrony (Book 2) together. Because I read them back to back I am not sure where the story ended and the second one picked up. I liked these books and the whole lover's triangle between Destiny, Isaac, and Preston. Barring the religious undertones, I bet you can find at least one triangle like this in every high school in America. As Les Miserables is one of my favorite movies, it was fun having all the references and songs in these books as well.
Destiny is only 15 when the book starts and is a Mormon attending Bethel Baptist High School. Her family are the only Mormon's that attend and they were former members of Bethel Baptist Church. When they converted, a lot of their friends didn't understand and broke off the friendship. While her brother Michael seems to be very well-liked, Destiny doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere. At the start of the school year she only has two girls that she calls friends, and one of them turns out to be Isaac's cousin.
There are actually two more books coming out, Complexity - book 2.5 and Harmony - book 3. I am going to have to read these because I want to know what happens with these three! There is also some smaller stories going on - one with Destiny's best friend Hannah and her boyfriend and another with Destiny's little sister Olivia, and a would be suitor. Both could be explosive all on their own.
Now that I have shared what I liked about the books, I do have to let you know about something that bothered me. I am a born-again Christian and felt a little bit like the Christians in this book weren't represented very well. They seemed to be the ones who were unaccepting, rumor mongerers, druggies, and having pre-marital sex. The Mormons on the other hand, all had close knit families, watched out for their siblings, dressed conservatively etc. And it wasn't until Isaac, (Christian) decides to learn more about the Mormon religion that he is portrayed in a much better light. I understand that this is central to the story line, the different religions and the conflicts between the two, but you don't run into very many good Christians in this story. Meanwhile, even though the Mormons are breaking some house rules, there is no comparison to what their Christian counterparts are doing. I am wondering if some of this is going to change in the next books though and look forward to finding out.

There is also some smaller stories going on - one with Destiny's best friend Hannah and her boyfriend and another with Destiny's little sister Olivia, and a would be suitor. Both could be explosive all on their own.
Now that I have shared what I liked about the books, I do have to let you know about something that bothered me. I am a born-again Christian and felt a little bit like the Christians in this book weren't represented very well. They seemed to be the ones who were unaccepting, rumor mongerers, druggies, and having pre-marital sex. The Mormons on the other hand, all had close knit families, watched out for their siblings, dressed conservatively etc. And it wasn't until Isaac, (Christian) decides to learn more about the Mormon religion that he is portrayed in a much better light. I understand that this is central to the story line, the different religions and the conflicts between the two, but you don't run into very many good Christians in this story. Meanwhile, even though the Mormons are breaking some house rules, there is no comparison to what their Christian counterparts are doing. I am wondering if some of this is going to change in the next books though and look forward to finding out.

I just realized I never posted my review for this (sorry, Cindy) so here it is!
I love this book and series! This book starts right where book one ended. Destiny and Isaac are back together and want their relationship to work. This time, they decide to hide the fact that they're a couple. It's a strain but they're managing. Then, one night, Destiny learns Isaac's secret and is devastated (to his credit, he tried telling her earlier). It feeds into her insecurities about Isaac so she promptly breaks up with him and wants nothing to do with him. Isaac is also devastated and tries to talk to Destiny, but she has locked him out.
Preston helps Destiny by just being her friend and is someone she opens up to. She sees him in a new light and they start dating. Her family is thrilled and life is easier. Destiny likes Preston and wants things to work out with him, but she's not completely over Isaac. She's still got the play with him and sees him at school. Then, Isaac starts coming to church. Will Destiny stay with Preston or go back to Isaac?
That really becomes the question throughout the book. I thought there were some great scenes and Destiny doesn't have an easy choice to make. There's one especially dramatic scene towards the end which shakes things up. I love the pacing, conversations and teen drama. I love that the chapters switch between Isaac, Destiny and Preston so we know what they're each thinking and going through. We also learn more about some of the side characters which will make things interesting in book 3.
I like how Preston and Isaac are both portrayed and I actually like both of them. As a mother, I would probably want my daughter to choose Preston. However, since I'm privy to what they're all thinking, I see more of a connection between Destiny and Isaac. I'm officially Team Isaac but won't be upset if she ends up with Preston. I'm so looking forward to Harmony to see how it ends!!

Synchrony is the second book in the Destiny Trilogy by Cindy Ray Hale. It tells about how Destiny's relationship with Preston heat up and developed after breaking up with Isaac. It is also the book where a lot of issues piled up like some moths flocking over a beacon of light. Problems just keep on coming.
This is the book in the trilogy where you can no longer monitor what you will feel and expect in the story. I flipped in this second book. The last time I checked I was loving all the characters. Now, more than love, I pity their choices so much. Well, this book reflects how generation today changed. How pregnancy seems so common among teenagers. How teenagers moved from one relationship to another like some bee in a flower garden. This showed how different factors in life changed how emotions reworked its way to mend things for a better feeling.
I am very absorbed in the story. I felt sad, annoyed, happy, mad--all things! Dictionaries should change the definition of Synchrony now. Synchrony is the ability to instantly turn emotions in 180 degrees and makes people go crazy.
Why kiss someone in front of your boyfriend?! I should stop this. I wanted to type in all my ramblings right now but I would just end up spoiling the book. Congratulations to this book, it successfully brought itself as part of my life from now on. So much misery, so much pain. This book is such a pain in the chest but I'm liking it. I can't wait any longer to see the conclusion of Destiny-Isaac-Preston story. Hannah-Evan's, too!

My second reaction throughout the whole entire book all I can really say is that I was shocked at how amazing it was the first book (Destiny) was also awesome but I loved synchrony even more
My favorite character would have to be Isaac! He is just described so well and in my imagination (very dreamy) *although I am team Preston! *

We get another perspective in Synchrony. I’m so excited about being in Preston’s head. He adds to this triangle, and it works.
I still love Destiny. She faces harder decisions, and doesn’t know what she should do. Her heart is split between the boy she shouldn’t be seeing, and one of her closest friends. I love the connection she has with Preston. He proves to be a rock for her, and keeps her grounded.
The battles these kids must face are bigger in this book. There’s jealousy, heartbreak, and so many other things. Each character grows throughout the book. I like that Isaac starts to focus on getting facts instead of listening to what his dad has to say without question. Destiny learns what friendship means, and that sometimes people need to get over their thoughts, and stop being hypocrites.
The ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

I fell in love with this story by the end of the first book, Destiny, and now I'm more hopelessly in love with it. These characters remind me so much of my youth, not that had two guys fighting over me, but just the confusion of love, religion and doing what you think is right. Destiny definitely grew as a person in this book, and it was hard to read some of the parts that she had to go through, but the romance made up for it. I was on the fence about if Preston or Isaac were better for her...I'm gonna say now I'm with Isaac. Now I will wonder for months what happens with her and these boys, her family, and even Preston's family. Cindy has done an amazing job in keeping the reader reading....I read both books in 3 days. A for sure good read that takes you away.

I devoured this book as quickly as book 1 (Destiny) I need the next one right now!
In this book not only do we have Destiny and Isaac's perspectives again, but Preston's too. There's so much heart wrenching things going on in their lives, that they're all trying to balance while also working out their own personal dramas.
As much as I loved Preston's added perspective because he's probably my favorite character, I found this one dragged a bit in some places, thus why I didn't rate it as high as Destiny. But I still loved it, and kept my kindle with me all day, stealing snippets here and there.

You must read Destiny before you read this book. Another great read by this author.
Destiny finds herself in a love triangle. I did feel sorry for the male characters. Told by the three main characters I thought the author did a great job of showing us how each character felt. Secondary characters also played a big part in this story. Lots of drama in this book had me reading it in one day.
This is the second book in the trilogy. Looking forward to reading more of these characters.

Synchrony by Cindy Ray Hale was a page-turner! This story kept me interested the entire time. The editing and writing in general is improved in this story from the last one! I gave this story four stars because the story line didn't appeal to me as much as in the last one. I think it's because I didn't like Destiny as much in this one. She falls into the classic literary trap of breaking up with her boyfriend and moping about it for months on end, even while having another guy constantly by her side. I feel like this is pretty unrealistic. What kind of guy spends every single evening in a tree house with a girl watching her cry? I know Preston cares deeply for her, but if he's working so hard to help support his mother, I don't understand how he could spend so much time on Destiny. Also, Destiny was head over heels for Isaac. How could she not read any of his text messages, or at least see the first line or two, when he was texting her constantly? Also, Destiny is a caring person and seemed to always put others first. Kissing Isaac in the restaurant was totally unlike her. Also, she seems to care deeply for her siblings. Olivia sneaking out in the middle of the night, every night, to meet Hudson, a boy who we know drinks and who she's kissed (if not more) should have sent Destiny on guard as an older sister. Her lack of response to the situation was out of character and so upsetting. Also, Olivia seems evil. Like honestly enjoys making Destiny miserable. This whole "for your own good" thing is just not enough of an explanation. I want to know what makes Olivia want to torture her sister so.
I guess I wish Destiny would have made just one decision in this story, but it seems everyone else is calling the shots for her.
I am excited to read the third book, though! I enjoy these stories and am looking forward to more.
